I was thinking of starting a book club on here for people who are keen readers. I normally read true life memoirs like 'My Sisters Keeper'.

I was thinking we could choose a book to read. Allow a couple of weeks to read it, then when you have finished, come on here to discuss thoughts etc...

Anyone interested let me know asap! Just finished a book and want to start a new one!

Hi, I'm quite new to this too & would love to join in. Have just moved house & don't really know anyone in the area yet - so could do with a good book to read after a day of unpacking & somewhere to discuss it!

weesaidie · 20/05/2005 11:42

Hey I would like to join, never seem to manage to set up book clubs in real life!

What are we reading?

weesaidie · 20/05/2005 20:25

Sounds good to me... is that out yet?

TwoIfBySea · 20/05/2005 20:34

Perhaps with suggestions there could also be a "where to buy" incase it is not widely available?

I go for Spykids "Shadow Of The Wind", that is the one set in Spain isn't it?

Otherwise I'll go for whatever the majority want!

Milliways · 20/05/2005 20:35

Tigers Child is in Asda for £3.73

wendy33 · 20/05/2005 20:42

How about we read The Tiger's Child first then Shadow of the wind?

Or the other way round?

I really dont mind. I have already got TTC which is the only reason I suggested that.

TwoIfBySea · 20/05/2005 20:54

Sounds like a good idea Wendy! Will buy Tiger's Child tomorrow and wait to hear which goes first and when the big discussion will be!

wendy33 · 20/05/2005 20:57

Ok. Keep a look out on here for which one we go with.

Anyone else have a preference as to which one we read first?

OP posts:
QueenEagle · 20/05/2005 20:59

Can I join in on this, or am I too late??

wendy33 · 20/05/2005 21:03

Of course you can join in.
We are trying to decide which one to go with.

What kind of books do you like to read normally?

OP posts:
emmatmg · 20/05/2005 21:09

I'll join, but in a few weeks.

I've already got a new book to read when i've finished what I reading now(does that make any sense???) so will find this thread again then.

Nemo1977 · 20/05/2005 21:12

me too im interested as long as i can try n fit time in between a toddler, ms and the ever present draw of mn..

wendy33 · 20/05/2005 21:16

We were going to give a two week time frame to read the book then discuss and comment on a new thread.

I too have a daughter and normally only read at night.

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 20/05/2005 21:19

2 weeks is good should be able to manage that
so what are we starting with is it the tigers child?

rubyroo · 20/05/2005 21:22

can i join too? is it tigers child i've already read shadow of the wind so am ready if thats it!!

QueenEagle · 20/05/2005 21:23

I read all sorts of books, from autobiographies to horror. Am currently reading Nicky Campbell's but am finding it really hard to get into. I'm happy to go along with suggestions made by others on here in the hope of broadening my horizons. I particularly like those that are a bit historical, 2 inch thick, can't put down kind.

Nemo1977 · 20/05/2005 21:24

am hoping for the same here QE am currently reading the bad mothers hand book, ten to read a lot of chick lit..lol

wendy33 · 20/05/2005 21:25

So far more people want TTC. I will keep checking on here but will let everyone know by Sunday night.

Is SOTW good?

OP posts:
wendy33 · 20/05/2005 21:28

We can do a different knid of book each time if you all want to?

It would be good to vary what we read. I always seem to read the same kind of books.

It would be good to vary!

Me too me too. I love reading anything and everything. I belong to a real life bookgroup and am trying an online bookgroup, but they only give me a week and with the DTs I need a little longer. Two weeks should be good.

I'm new to the crime genre, but like it more than I thought. Not big on chick lit (unless sitting on a beach or too exhausted to think). Not hugely keen on sci fi but have read and enjoyed some fantasy.

My suggestion, for a later date, is The Promise of Happiness by Justin Cartwright.

Fortunately for me, but not my purse, there is a really good bookshop just across the road. So when you decide what we're reading I'll have it!
