In The Really Quite Good British Cookbook, Nigella Lawson divulges how to bake her Chocolate Guinness Cake, Rick Stein fries up Shrimp & Dill Fritters with Ouzo, and Yotam Ottolenghi opts to serve Pea & Mint Croquettes. These are just a few of the incredible recipes provided by the best and brightest on the British food scene, including chefs such as Raymond Blanc, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Delia Smith, James Martin, Nigel Slater, Thomasina Miers, Marco Pierre White, Claudia Roden and more.

Compiled by award-winning food editor and author William Sitwell, The Really Quite Good British Cookbook is a celebration of the breadth, creativity and richness of Britain's unique food culture.

We love Italian food in our house - home made pizzas, calzones, lasagnes, carbonara...it's always made with love! 😋

Steak and chips

Can't beat a good old Sunday Roast with all the trimmings

ButterflyOfFreedom · 14/03/2017 16:44

Has to be a good old Sunday roast! A favourite of DH & our DC- if I ask them what they want for dinner, they will say this (whatever day of the week!!).

So usually roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots & parsnips, peas, stuffing & gravy.
Pretty simple but very effective!!

I love cooking my for my family by making super healthy delicious, wholesome vegetarian food, that they would otherwise not eat.
I pack atleast 5 portions of fruit and veg into each serving of dinner, and try get a few more into a starter and desert too!
A thai massaman curry made with my own paste and lots of root veggies is a fave!

katiewalters · 14/03/2017 17:14

Home made lasagne of my spicy chilli

HamletsSister · 14/03/2017 18:37

Cake.

Or home made curry.

And then cake.

MycatsaPirate · 14/03/2017 18:42

Spaghetti sausage-naise. I buy sausages with caramelised onions in them and slice them up. Fry off lightly and add onions, thin sliced leek, chop up from fresh tomatoes and add garlic, thyme and oregano. Add a tub of passata and tea spoon of sugar.

Serve on wholewheat linguine. All my family love this - it's a sort of homemade recipe and a firm favourite.

If I really feel the love then I'll make a chocolate bailey's cheesecake for pudding. Approx 8.000kcal a slice :o

cocochips · 14/03/2017 19:35

Lots and lots of cake

beckyinman · 14/03/2017 20:36

lolapops1 · 14/03/2017 20:42

Haggis pie - haggis topped with turnip, then carrots, then cheesy mash

mo3733 · 14/03/2017 20:51

my legendary roast dinners always go down a treat

smithsurvey14 · 14/03/2017 22:02

I like to cook fish pie for my family but have to double the quantity of white sauce because I have eaten most of it before I get chance to pop the parsley in.Hmm
Unfortunately I don't get to cook it very often as my family prefer a traditional meat and 7 veg or chicken chilli, cooked in 2 separate pans so one is mild without chilli or tomato seeds and the other is hot and full of seeds.

pfcpompeysarah · 14/03/2017 22:11

My son loves my curries, he loves to help with all the chopping and so on while I 'supervise' ... the results are always fab.

Marg2k8 · 14/03/2017 22:23

Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

KarenCBC · 14/03/2017 22:32

Butternut squash risotto. Almost without fail everyone I cook it for loves it. IT works for vegetarians as well as omnivores too. Really, sloppy, easy to eat comfort food that can also be classed as bowl food. For sitting on the sofa watching telly or for a starter for a fancy dinner party.

mumofmadboys · 15/03/2017 07:27

Homemade soups in soup maker and hot cheese scones!

jodiebeaumont1909 · 15/03/2017 09:17

vegetable lasagne!

Susangilley7 · 15/03/2017 09:31

A simple dish of Mince and carrots is something I have made all my married life - 40 years!! I got the recipe from a packet of long grain rice from Tesco!!

StewPots · 15/03/2017 10:01

I do the lion's share of the cooking in our house, and I love trying new recipes and making sure we don't get into a rut of doing the same dishes every week.

This week, I've made pizzas from scratch, last night was a spinach & feta frittata, we had huevos rancheros for breakfast this morning and tonight I'm making lamb kebabs!

But I do love a good old casserole, stew or curry...hmmm I'm off to meal plan for next week now!

pauline51 · 15/03/2017 14:17

ANYTHING THEY ASK FOR

kacky · 15/03/2017 14:54

The people I love always get my family recipe chicken soup. It keeps you warm on cold days and makes everything better when you're not well. It's the old staple that everyone wants.
