The important people in my life are definitely my boys. I cook all sorts of meals, a lot of Italian recipes, so plenty of pasta and risotto. I bake weekly, sometimes several times a week. DS1 is an autie and would only eat certain foods, but he loves my choc chip cookies and cakes, especially the carrot cake.
And pancakes. Everybody loves pancakes, and I make them every weekend, with all kinds of toppings.

My most loved dish for my most loved people is my signature Steak, roasted shallots and tarragon pie in a rich gravy with a huge shortcrust pastry lid served with roasted potatoes and proper steeped mushy peas... clean plates all round every time

Lamb tagine in the slow cooker. That was a real expression of love for DH when he was responsible for cooking for us, as all he had to do was couscous while I settled the DC to sleep. So he got a night off from his usual chore.

How many dishes? My favourite dish of the moment for my family is Sri Lankan/ British Biryani. Dh is Sri Lankan. I use filleted chicken thighs (because the skin has already been removed - lazy - but bone-in ones just as nice if not better). I cook the chicken first - shallow fried with spices/ seasoning, soak the rice in boiling water for 10 mins and rinse thoroughly then add the chicken things to the rice into rice cooker with green beans on top. The beans steam whilst the rice cook and all the spices/ chicken juices go into the rice. Kids love it.

My other fav fusion for guests would be Chinese/ uk -style pork belly. I marinade chopped belly in garlic/ ginger/ soy/ barbecue sauce/ 5-spice/ sesame oil and then cook in oven till it goes a bit crispy. Serve with rice and stir fry veg. We do like rice in our house!

I like my slow cooker and like to do veggie chilli in the slow cooker to have in fajitas with lots of cheese, jalapeños and sour cream.

cake!

I think the meal I cook that shows the most love for my family is beef, bacon and red wine casserole with potato and celeriac mash.

The casserole goes in the oven for upwards of 6 hours, and fills the house with delicious aromas that welcome them all home on a cold day.

finova · 08/03/2017 19:03

I love making soups for Saturday afternoon after a busy day outside.
Or BBQs go down very well in the summer.

DaisyChops · 08/03/2017 21:23

Home made fish pie is a winner in our house. Just a really simple receipe of salmon and peas in a cheese sauce with mash topped with loads of cheese. Nothing fancy but it's delicious if I do say so myself Grin

foxessocks · 08/03/2017 21:26

I cook most of our dinners and love serving up something everyone enjoys (tricky with a slightly fussy 3yo!) . Roast dinners or pasta bakes are favourites.

WowOoo · 08/03/2017 21:46

My husband loves steak and chips. If I can get some bone marrow it really adds to the flavour of the chips. I get the nicest I can afford meat wise. It's a simple classic and a real treat.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 08/03/2017 22:48

I love to make cakes and apple pies for my family and friends. My cinnamon buns are a thing of beauty!!

FurryTurnip · 09/03/2017 08:11

I love cooking a curry feast for friends and family- 4 or 5 different dishes with loads of vegetarian options - saag paneer, lentil curry, aloo gobi. I often think I should do something other than curry when people come over but they are disappointed if I do!

Tashacomp91 · 09/03/2017 10:03

We like to cook as a family. Especially foods such as soups or curries.
Me and my partner have already got our 2 year old helping. She'll help put the cuting/ peelings from veg in a tub to take to the compost bin. She'll also help put the veg into the pans (before they're put on the hob) she's even got her own apron and hat!

Despite my family all eating well with no restrictions or allergies, thankfully, (I really feel for those who have to juggle these issues within a busy family life) they all have their foibles. I don't eat meat, DH likes everything spicy, DS1 eats like a bird and doesn't like dairy or sauces much and DS2 changes his mind about what he likes on a daily basis!
I try to cook meals that accommodate everyone (which isn't easy!) but there are ways round it. If I do a pasta dish, I'll omit the meat for me and add chilli for DH. The same goes for soups and stews. If we're having a dish with a creamy sauce, I'll prep everything together and then replace the cream with something tomato based for DS1 which he prefers. One meal we all enjoy (leaving out the meat and whipping up a little veggie gravy for me!) is a big roast dinner. It's is an all round favourite, and is great for some bubble and squeak leftovers the next day Smile

Irish stew made with lamb! yummy!

TrashcanMan · 09/03/2017 12:42

My family's favourite is steak pie. I make a beef casserole, slow cooked in the oven for three hours, let it cool then put in a pie dish, cover with puff pastry and cook. Served with lots of veg, everyone loves it!

wannabestressfree · 09/03/2017 14:07

My boys love pesto pasta and chicken. They will literally eat it by the bucket load and its my go to. I normally stick a wedge of garlic bread on the side and follow up with a proper pud like jam roly poly and we are good for at least an hour :}

asuwere · 09/03/2017 14:43

The people I love are my family and I do all the cooking so everything I cook is for those I love most :)
DC like most things but I can always guarantee clean plates when I do beef olives with potato wedges (which is my favourite too!)

theresamustgo · 09/03/2017 15:36

the people I love - my family - best of all like my rather amateur sushi - with all the bits, ginger, wasabi, soy sauce and pickles. That is our celebration meal and I love doing it.

Polyanthus · 09/03/2017 20:12

There's something really satisfying about making a big vat of soup. I used to make a tomato and chick pea soup with little pasta cooked in it. More recently my go to soup recipe was a minestrone - lots of chopping and dicing but very tasty (and uses up the chard and kale from the garden). But now my favourite soup is a mulligatawny either with or without chicken based on a recipe in a Sarah Raven cookbook. I make a huge quantity each time and use the leftovers as Dahl with rice.

We have a breadmaker and I always used to make dough in it and then shape it into rolls .(when the kids were smaller, I'd make hedgehog shapes and snip them after proving with scissors to make the spines). Now I turn the dough out onto a baking sheet and bake it as one large, flat loaf. Looks great and even easier than rolls

Catiefraser · 09/03/2017 20:46

I like to make home made lasagna or macaroni cheese. I also bake cake, cupcakes or muffins.

NeverTwerkNaked · 09/03/2017 22:18

Cake!!! Often late at night! My children have severe allergies to egg and milk, so before every birthday party they go to I make cake, so they don't miss out. Often (because I am juggling work etc) I don't get round to baking it till late at night, but it means so much to my children.

aristocat · 10/03/2017 10:36

My answer is also cake Smile from Apple Pies to Birthday Cakes and everything inbetween. My favourite at the moment is Carrot Cake but as DD likes helping we do make a lot of chocolate cakes!

I do believe my baking passion comes from my childhood too, my mom was German - so there was always home made cake Cake

ememem84 · 10/03/2017 10:46

Risotto. I love cooking it. It's simple filling and you need to take time and patience with it. For me it's a dish made with love. You can't do it quickly.

My go to is butternut squash and caramelised onions. With a pinch of nutmeg and a dollop of Philly cheese stirred in at the end. Served with a spinach and rocket salad. Mmmmm
