I really enjoy baking for my loved ones cake, biscuits and pies are always appreciated and go down well! Also hearty home cooked meals such as lasagne give me a great sense of pride when I see the whole family coming together and enjoying it

I developed a passion for cooking when I was pregnant for the first time, (my son is 10 now). I didn't want to be the sort of mum who could barely cook and egg and wanted my children to love my cooking. Luckily, they now do! Things I love to cook is sharing food. There's a great sharing dish I love to do now, which is little lamb kofta patties, with parsley, cumin and red onion in. With garlic yogurt dip, gridled courgette, halloumi and cauliflower couscous. Other things I love to cook, are classics like lasagne. My show off dish is a leg of lamb cooked over thinly sliced potatoes, cooked with sliced onions and stock. It tastes so good, but it's incredibly easy to prepare and cook. When I'm cooking for my husband, he loves really spicy per peri chicken, with a black bean Mexican rice. Basically, we absolutely love food!

A big roast dinner. Usually chicken or beef, lots of roasties and amazing gravy

SaltySeaBird · 05/04/2017 01:37

My children love jacket potatoes so I try to be creative with fillings for example slow cooked beef chilli with lots of hidden veg, a dollop of sour cream and grated cheese.

Pimmpom · 05/04/2017 07:22

My son loves my Shepherd's Pie so I do like to cook that when I feel like he needs a hug.

karen54 · 05/04/2017 08:36

My family love home made lasagna or chicken pie and their favourite dessert is apple crumble, served hot with ice-cream.I don't make that as I don't have an ice-cream maker, still unsure about buying one.

I like to make a nice hearty beef stew. Full of lean beef and hearty vegetables. Smiles all round when we have this.

lorrainej162 · 05/04/2017 08:46

Venison casserole made with beef stock, red wine, blueberry jam, carrot, onion, courgettes, garlic and rosemary. Served with mustard mash and kale.

My family adore my chicken pie and my fish pie, both with a pastry top.

That is the first level of loveliness.

If I take the extra time to make it a double crust pie, and blind bake the bottom, then it sends them into utter transports of delight.

That is the second level of loveliness.

But if I decorate the pastry top... The fish pie has to have a pastry fish blowing pastry bubbles. The chicken pie has to have a message relevant to the day.

Oh my - that is the ultimate level of loveliness!

Ironically, they're virtually identical recipes! Easy enough to make, but time-consuming. So the fully monty 3rd level pies are a special treat and a labour of love.

The absolute favourite in our household is a good old roast dinner with all the trimmings. All the family have to be invited and both old and young enjoy and I simply can never do enough roast potatoes!

eandoauntie · 05/04/2017 10:29

I have my niece and nephew staying with me this week and we are having themed dinners so Monday night we visited India - we had Curry and Poppadoms and played Indian music and learnt about India. Last night we visited Italy and we had pizza and pasta played traditional Italian music learnt the flag colour etc tonight we are visiting Sweden and having meatballs - this will be a learning experience for me too as I don't know all that much about Sweden.

Salmon wellington with creamy mash and asparagus, always goes down a treat with the whole family :)

sofaloafbanana · 05/04/2017 17:46

Who doesn't love pizza? The whole family can get into the act of making the dough, rolling it out (the air-throwing technique usually ends in a disastrous mess on the ceiling!), and then choosing our favourite fillings. Bang it in the oven for ten minutes. Perfection.

lisapop · 05/04/2017 18:21

Biscuits, there's nothing quite like finding a freshly baked biscuit in your lunch box. My family's favourite meal is a Roast, so I end up cooking this twice a week

piggypoo · 05/04/2017 18:39

A massive lasagna, with salad and garlic bread, not very adventurous, but they all love it!

tishist · 05/04/2017 20:39

I like to cook a hearty casserole for my family and friends.

karen148 · 05/04/2017 21:14

My family would be the first to say that I'm not the best cook in the world - not even the best in the house. But I do make a pretty tasty lemon drizzle cake that I like to make for weekends.

Laska5772 · 05/04/2017 21:15

WoW!!!!! Shock this is the first time I have ever won anything!!! Thanks so much..

I will really enjoy cooking out of the book (which looks great by the way), in my new pans..

They wont be going to on my holiday with me though, when I shall of course, as I do every year, be making several batches of lemonade for the thirsty hoardes..

It takes ages as I said , but it is really worth the effort..

Thanks again for choosing my entry, Laska Smile

My favourite kind of cooking is the type you can chuck in the oven and forget about e.g slow cooked lamb shoulder (braised in wine 6-8 hours) or Pork shoulder (24 hours low heat) both just fall off the bone (like duck at a Chinese restaurant) and it's easy to make sides to go with.
Also big pots of Thai curry/chilli con carne/fajitas never fail too!
