I cook lasagne as everyone loves it in my family. Also I make a yummy fish pie which everyone eats too.

teddygirlonce · 13/03/2017 16:02

My most loved recipe is one my mother made up when I was a baby (many moons ago) and which has been passed down the generations. They were very hard up (my DF was still a student at the time) so she really had to make all food go as far as possible. It's called 'cheesy dish' and includes sliced potatoes layered with friend onion and bacon (repeat X 2 or X3) then covered with a thick cheese sauce and rashers of bacon. It's soul food British style and particularly warming in winter months!

The final result!

You can eat it just as it is or with a baked potato or rice.

I cook all my family's special dishes on their birthdays for a start and their favourite dishes all time - a curry for the husband, Laska noodles for the eldest and pasta for the other two younger ones.
Our family favourite has to be dessert - all sorts from Portuguese Pastel De Nata to custard to Red Velvet cake - the list goes on.

BlackSusie2004 · 13/03/2017 16:11

Especially in the winter months, because they love it so much, I regularly make Beef Stew and Dumplings in the slow cooker!

CREATIVZ · 13/03/2017 16:14

I mainly dabble with cake baking, lots of carrot and fruit variations, but I also make lots of different breads, biscuits and brownies, I give most of my bakes away to friends and family, brownie slabs are a great size for posting ! Cake

annemac101 · 13/03/2017 16:15

My favourite dish to cook for family is Macaroni Mince. Which is made in a large casserole just like lasagne but with macaroni. Lots and lots of cheese on top. Everyone loves it and there's plenty for everyone.

RueDeDay · 13/03/2017 16:16

Homemade pizza from scratch... We have pizza and movie night every Sunday, DD always gets to choose the movie and we snuggle up on the sofa and watch it together. I'm hoping it stays a tradition right through the teenage years!!

tworonnies1957 · 13/03/2017 16:20

everyone in my family loves a meaty beef or lamb stew with dumplings with heaps of mashed potatoes

honalulu · 13/03/2017 16:21

Something that you wouldn't do or have everyday. I tend to go for the really rich, dark chocolate brownies. Good for afternoon treat or pudding!

musicalprof · 13/03/2017 16:24

My family have their favourites but I think the thing I most enjoy cooking for them is when I try to recreate a meal they have eaten elsewhere & loved (salmon marinaded in ginger, chilli & soy sauce; ham, leek & mustard crumble; or a chicken stir fry they've had at the restaurant). But I really enjoy cooking with my dc (dd 13 & ds 11) & I think teaching them to cook for themselves is an act of love...

FleshEmoji · 13/03/2017 16:33

I recently cooked a birthday dinner for my 84 year old father.

We started with toasted rye bread topped with laverbread, grilled prawns and prosciutto. (I'd have preferred clams but DF is allergic to oysters so we're wary).

Main was our local salt marsh lamb which he loves. We slow roasted it in the Big Green Egg and served with boiled new potatoes and roasted carrots.

Pud was a frangipane tart with plums from our garden, bottled in brandy over the winter.

We were all quite full :-)

sallyc06 · 13/03/2017 16:38

I cook for my 4 children, 8 grandchildren and two chinese students who are with me for 2 years. They love my roast dinner the best, we always do 3 veg, meat or chicken, yorkshires, roasters and the speciality is grampy's gravy, but I cannot take credit for that - it's my hubby's secret recipe!

truckingirl · 13/03/2017 16:51

I love cooking for the family I,d cook up some homemade fish fingers for the kids & some spicy Moroccan lamb tangine for the bigger kids 😉
Followed by homemade berry brûlée with homemade vanilla ice cream

Hopezibah · 13/03/2017 16:59

Baking a cake they will love to the kids specifications is always a challenge but a labour of love - thankfully they are understanding if things don't always go to plan. in terms of savoury meals - my sons love croquettas and my eldest son even wrote in his school report in the section that the child completes that he likes it when mum makes croquettas.

Fiendarina · 13/03/2017 17:23

Most of the important people in my life are either children or come complete with children, so I cook them macaroni cheese. I even shove in peas in a nod to nutrition, bacon for deliciousness and some crispy crunchy breadcrumbs on top. It is not remotely low in fat or carbs, or free from dairy or gluten, and all the better for it.

MrsRedWhite214 · 13/03/2017 17:26

I love cooking brownies, they always go down well as such lovely comfort food!

hayleywalden560 · 13/03/2017 17:40

Homemade preserves - particularly Seville orange marmalade for my partner, strawberry & raspberry jam & elderflower cordial from the garden. I've also started making elderberry cordial which is a great flu/winter bug preventative and cure.

user1488827562 · 13/03/2017 17:55

One of the few meals my whole family loves is vege burger stew. It was a recipe my mother in law passed on to me and is a great one pot comfort meal.

Wishonastar77 · 13/03/2017 17:57

I cook lots of different things. My sons favourite is a roast. This was a turkey, ham, mushroom and cheese pie made from Christmas leftovers.

A Pasta dish always does down well with everyone and it's perfect for when we have family round as some are vegetarians

lottietiger · 13/03/2017 18:07

If it's just me and DH a t bone steak with a good home made wine sauce goes down a treat with dauphinois potatos. If my 4 year old is eating with us a home made pizza as he can get involved with the making f the dough and the choice of toppings.

childmaintenanceserviceinquiry · 13/03/2017 18:11

I am not a good cook but I can manage a pretty good Sunday roast dinner, including roast chicken, nut roast, roast potatoes, parsnips, fresh veg being shelled peas, carrots, beans. But the star of the show is my fabulous cauliflower cheese with a secret ingredient, just a hint of mustard and nutmeg with plenty of salt and pepper.

ArchNotImpudent · 13/03/2017 18:18

A game-based casserole - pheasant is my favourite, but I'll try anything my local fishmonger (who sells game as well!) has on his table. Gamey meat or fowl smells great while it's slowly cooking - and served with creamy, buttery mashed potato which soaks up all the juice it's a great meal to sit round the table with.
