Hi any views

OP posts:
thrifty · 13/06/2010 09:21

i caught sight of a video after clicking on it, it ran for 20 mins.
what she said made sense, but i couldn't find the website after I'd closed the video.
However, I started doing some of it, the no wheat in particular has made me feel sooo much better, using spelt flour for cooking instead, eating whole foods, no white potatoes, eating only unprocessed foods, no sugar etc. I've lost over 1/2 stone in the month I've being doing it.
I eat when I feel like it, and its not that hard to do. I don't know whether wine is classed as a natural product though! I've had quite a lot of that lately.
I don't really know whether I am sticking to the no diet solution, as i only caught a bit of the video. do you have a link to the website?

thrifty · 13/06/2010 09:39

btw, I haven't parted with any money (bought any books or dvd's etc), just changed my eating habits. If I exercised more, and tried really hard at it I'd probably lose more. ATM I'm losing about 2lbs a week. My aim is to be a size 12 (was alarge 16, currently a large 14) by the time we go camping at the end of august, as I want to be able to get into my wetsuit!

shortandsweet2 · 14/06/2010 09:12

Hi thrifty is it this one

thrifty · 14/06/2010 19:57

yes, thats the one. oooo. imight watch it again.

thrifty · 14/06/2010 20:27

just watched the video again, but i'm still not going to buy the books as have implemented some of the changes and am already losing weight at a steady pace. so beavermum,if you fancy giving it a go, watch the video to give you an idea of what to eat and what to avoid.
be nice to have a buddy 'no-diet' buddy :-)

shortandsweet2 · 15/06/2010 07:47

Thrifty like you I don't want to buy the book, it's quite expensive at nearly £40 and you can't buy it ANYWHERE cheaper, not even ebay!

I will be trying to apply the principles as the video and will hopefully start losing the weight again. I did slimfast recently for 10 days and put on 1/2 a pound on, since coming off it on Friday I have lost 2lbs

There is a free trial of this but too scared to do it in case I get billed. I will seek it out for you in case you want to try it.

shortandsweet2 · 15/06/2010 07:55

Here is the page there the free trial is

BudaisintheZONE · 15/06/2010 10:57

Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of it but have been following a similar plan and have lost just over a stone. Will apply some of the principle of this and see does it make a difference.

thrifty · 15/06/2010 13:46

ooo, what plan have you been doing buda?

S&S2 I dont think I'll do the free trial, as like you I don't want to be billed.

I had a good nose around the site last night and noted there were a few recipes and interesting things on the blog. I also noted that they use a herbal sweetner called Stevia, but you can't get it in the UK or EU, which doesn't spike your sugar levels. I've just been using honey instead of sugar. I know its not ideal, but its more digestable than sugar.

BTW you can buy spelt melba toast in tesco's :-)

BudaisintheZONE · 15/06/2010 15:44

Hi thrifty. I have been doing my own plan sort of. Used to do low carb but can't stick to it. Know that low GI is good for me but if I can have any carbs I tend to go overboard. So I cut out anything made with flour or sugar - which cuts out a LOT of crap. I have granola or porridge or rye toast for breakfast with fruit. Lunch often soup or salad or a slice of rye bread if I haven't already had one, with ham or turkey or tuna and some salad. Dinner is protein and veg. Am eating pulses and beans too. Drinking lots of water and green tea. Having one plain Activia yoghurt a day. Find it fairly easy to stick to, have lots more energy and don't crave carbs or have those awful slumps. Oh - and have gotten rid of my almost constant heartburn.

thrifty · 15/06/2010 18:11

thats interesting buda - how long has it taken you to shed a stone doing that?

I've had a cookathon this afternoon and we're having stuffed peppers for tea, I've also made some spicy bean burgers, and there's some rice pudding on the go in the slow cooker.

I've found the 'free from' aisle in tesco's a great source of inspiration, today i got some fake pasta made only from brown rice (its got be better than the spelt pasta i made!) oh and the NAKD bars are to die for especially the cocoa orange ones.

aparantly vivaldi potatoes are low carb, I'm growing some at the mo, but you can only buy them in sainsburys, so I've not really had any potatoes for over a month (the odd stolen chip). Am bored to death with sweet potatoes now though, do you know of a good substitute?

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 06:41

Morning buda and thrifty

Since Sat I have lost nearly 4lbs, I am so amazed and I am not really trying.

I am going to make a bean stew tonight with brown rice.

Thrifty could you try quinoa?

thrifty · 16/06/2010 07:27

thats great news shortandsweet :-) well done. I have to say, i found this easier to do cos i'm never hungry, and the results so far have been worth it.
i really not all that keen on quinoa, though i may give it another go. Bought some millet yesterday, so thought i might give that a go.
I'm not sure whether ryevita is alloywed or not, but i've found it to be a great snack with peanut butter and a banana on top :-) it was hard to find peanut butter that didn't have palm oil in it though, but tesco do one. Its quite runny though.

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 08:09

I did have a look at the rivita last night and wondered if we could have it.

I ended up buying oat biscuits and completely forgot about the palm oil. grrrr

Must try and get to Tesco's but is so far for me to get to. Palm oil is in blooming everything and very hard to find things without it.

Holland and Barrett used to do a peanut butter like that but see it now has palm oil added

BudaisintheZONE · 16/06/2010 08:46

Hi thrifty and shortandsweet.

Thrifty - it has taken me almost 3 months but that included Easter when I regained the almost half stone I had lost!! Was away and didn't stick to it. Have been back at it since beginning May. Losing around 2 lbs a week. Gaining a little back over weekends if I go off it. Half lost half a stone in the last month.

I am in Budapest and although there is a 'FreeFrom' aisle in the supermarkets here I can't read the ingredients as all in Hungarian and I worry that they have just substituted one thing with another that may be bad in other ways! I haven't substituted carbs. Have just not had them. Am not overly keen on sweet potatoes so haven't bothered.

One thing I remember liking when I did Atkins years ago was making 'mash' with cauliflower instead of potatoes. It is really yummy. Basically cook your cauli as normal and then put through food processor with some butter and salt and pepper and a little cream if you want.

Can buy spelt flour here and have a breadmaker so may try and make some bread. Although am happy enough without it.

Salsa is a great dip with chopped carrot or oatcakes. I bought some but am going to try and make my own.

thrifty · 16/06/2010 18:58

Hi :-)

buda - I will try the cauliflower topping, I could really eat a shepherds pie just now. I can see your predicament with the shopping, it must be hard when its all in another language. I struggled in France recently and I know a little french. Ive made spelt bread, it didnt come out quite as i'd hoped, but i dont have a breadmaker, so maybe you'll have more success!

shortandsweet - will tesco deliver to you? the peanut butter i bought is 'all natural Peanut Butter & Co - old fashioned crunchy' it's peanuts and salt.

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 19:36

Hi Thrifty - I have come across this It's not the American sweetner but seems to reseble it and is available at holland and barrett. What do you think?

I have bought Sainbos organic peanut butter, when that runs out I will do an online shop (completely forgot about that idea) I never realised palm oil was band until you told me.

I too have bought spelt and will try making some bread over the weekend, how does it taste?

Can we use yeast?

BudaisintheZONE · 16/06/2010 19:42

Well I have just had toast! Found spelt wholemeal bread and it is not bad. Also bought spelt flour so will try that out some time.

I think I will struggle to get palm oil free peanut butter here but will be in Ireland and UK over summer so will get some then.

They had that xylitol here too shortandsweet. Didn't bother as am not missing sugary stuff.

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 19:47

Buda she has a receipe for chocolate brownies that I really want ot try

BudaisintheZONE · 16/06/2010 20:12

Hmmm. Now chocolate brownies I could go for!

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 16/06/2010 20:20

You ladies have inspired me, I've just watched the video and am going to give it a go (not parting with any cash though). The one thing I'm not clear on is dairy - allowed or not?

BudaisintheZONE · 16/06/2010 20:23

I wondered that too Housewife. No idea really.

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 20:36

I am not too sure either.

I have found this on ebay, what do you think?

shortandsweet2 · 16/06/2010 20:48

I have just bought it and when I get it I am more than happy to share it with you, hopefully it will answer all our questions

If you want a copy just note your email here

thrifty · 16/06/2010 21:16

Hello Housewife, welcome to the fold :-)

yes, I assumed dairy is allowed, butter, full fat milk, cheese. aslong as its not low fat/messed about with i.e. i cant believe its not butter. also I'm guessing full fat, nothing added yoghurt etc.

I've never been a fan of artificial sweetners, xylitol is not bad for you i dont think and it has some antibacterial qualities too, hence they use it in toothpaste and gum, don't have too much of it though, it'll give you the squits. Ive been using honey for my sweet fix and for cooking. i read an interesting article on the benefits of honey in general, i'll try to find a link. I did buy a bag of fructose (only 72p in tesco) to put in my tea though, cos honey makes tea taste a bit like custard. Saying that,I've really cut down on my sweet intake. I have developed a penchant for green and blacks organic 70% dark chocolate, I currently have 1 square a day and have the esspresso flavour, its yum.

ooo... shortandsweet, that'd be great if you don't mind my email is clare _ voiant @ tiscali . co . uk (without the spaces).
