Ta-da!

OP posts:
Undertone · 21/06/2010 11:17

Mornin all.

I had two 'gosh - you're looking slim!'-type comments today, as I'm wearing a fitted jersey t-shirt for once. I even had a 'look at your waist! It's tiny compared to your mahoosive hips' comment.

Woop!

In the grand scheme of things, 21 pounds (1 1/2 stone) in, I've only got to stick at it for another 10 months or so at this pace before I'll be a slim as I want to be.

It's within the grasp of my greasy fingers! It's exhausing to try and stay as motivated as I have been though.

Who's got some good motivational tips? Mirror in the fridge? Teen photos of oneself ON the fridge? I'm running out of ideas.

SusanShocksOn · 21/06/2010 11:29

Hi can i join? I'm starting the long haul today.

I'm 5 foot 2 and 12 stone 7 lbs. It's all out front on my belly mostly.

I feel gross to be honest and since my youngest was born i've not given myself the attention i should - he's now 7 . I've found myself starting to look at nice clothes and stuff again. I don't think i've been depressed as such, just 'busy' but i feel alot better recently and i know i'll feel better if i lose some weight. I feel as if i've been living underwater in a sort of bubble if that makes any sense.

I'm aiming for 10 Stone. That's 2 and a half stone. Doable by the end of the year i'm hoping, having never dieted before (i was always the thin one in the family ) i've no idea how quickly i'll lose weight.

Oh and i drink too much - that will help won't it? If i stop.

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/06/2010 12:54

SusanShock cutting the booze will help MASSIVELY and you'll feet much less underwater if you're not drinking alcohol but lots of water instead.

I went from 10.10 to 9.7 took 3 months. The plateaus are the frustrating things but you get over them.

looneymum · 21/06/2010 13:59

Hello ladies. Have lost tons of weight recently on the "adultering ex husband that is pissing off to Australia diet" . Tons of stress and enormous court bills, managing poor DCs emotions and my own resulted in a good few stone off.

Anyroad, upshot is I am now happy and loved up and guess what.... I am starting to balloon up! I just am hungry all the time. What can I do to suppress this crazy hunger?!!! Trying to do exercises every day which should help but the pile of extra biscuits I have just eaten certainly wont!

All pearls of wis gratefully received. xx

dinkystinky · 21/06/2010 14:27

Hi everyone - deal from hell now signed (hurrah) so will be back in the zone from now on in. Buda - cant believe you've had another flood - no wonder you biffed! I'd be so fed up. QT - hope the mechanic turned up and your knee is all better now. Undertone - hurrah for the compliments!

Welcome susanshock - if you've never been on a diet before, I'd suggest following a structured plan (like WW or Slimming World) which will help you become aware of portion sizes, exercise and healthy cooking to accelerate your weight loss and help you hit your goal. Cutting out everything fun at once is not good for your mindset and results in failure.

Looneymum - dont buy the biscuits! Or if you do have to buy them for kids, keep them somewhere you cant easily reach them. And try something else to satisfy that sweetness craving - fruit, sugar free jelly, whatever is relatively healthy and works for you.

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/06/2010 14:32

Dinky, yay! You survived. Listen to Dinky she knows her stuff.

CheeeseOnToast · 21/06/2010 16:29

going out for pizza express tonight. think i might have some pasta, make it might weekly treat yummy.

dinks, glad you've finally got to the end of your deal (case?) without too much biffage, I always find its easier to get back into the zone after a few days of biffing so hopefully by Friday you'll be reporting another loss.

looneymum and susan - I second the 'listen to dinky' sentiment!

QualityTime · 21/06/2010 17:57

Yay dinks! Glad it's over for you, make sure you berate your boss for making you do it..

Hello susan and looney, my Top TIp is ot buy biscuits you don't like (for me fig rolls, ginger nuts and ritz biscuits) so the dd's can still get a treat without me being tempted.
Also get a tape measure and start measuring each week instead of weighing!

I am flagging badly. still plateuing, I think hormones are fucking me over atm so am trying to be good but cannot be arsed to exercise as well with cramps etc. Plus it's really nice here so I can't run after DH gets in from work at 3 as it's too hot. Hopefully I will feel a bit more motivated this week...

I need motivational tips as well. Have measured and not lost any cm this week, very demoralising, but I have been uber bad. I found an old ugly photo of me and had DH take another photo so might stick them on the fridge to motivate.
If I feel really in need I might share them..

dinkystinky · 22/06/2010 10:46

QT - hormones are evil buggers.

Right, motivational tips - my favourite one is to set yourself an achievable milestone (lose x weight by x date or x cm by x date) and if you hit the milestone promise yourself a lovely treat - like a haircut, or doing your nails, or drinks with a friend - something you dont get to enjoy all the time.

Other ones that can work are sticking old photos of you where you keep the biff food to remind you not to biff and getting rid of old bigger clothes that no longer fit you (so you know if you put on the weight you'll have nothing to wear).

Back in the zone today - circuits class, porridge with yoghurt and green tea for breakfast, pilates at lunch time with some sushi and fruit salad for lunch then off to watch the 20:20 cricket tonight with clients so there will be alcohol and curry involved but figure after the week I've just had I can treat myself to that...

BudaisintheZONE · 22/06/2010 11:02

Hi all.

I have been bad. Had bread. And biscuits. And an ice cream. Had toast and biscuits this morning. Aargh. Am at top of slippery slope back to old ways.

Am chaining myself back into zone from NOW. Off to Dublin for 10 days again on Friday so want to be back in zone then and have a good result on Friday so that I will be motivated to stick to plan.

Welcome Susan and Looneymum. We are (or at least were!) hard core here. If you biff (eat crap) you will get shouted at unless you have a very good reason. We weigh in on a Friday. Our mantras are:

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels
Will it make me happy?
Will it still be available when I have lost weight?

Looneymum - sorry about your ex and the reason you lost in first place but congrats on new man. Why are you hungry? Are you eating enough of the right things? Are you having enough protein? Biscuits and other crap are empty calories so my theory is that the body doesn't get much nutrition from them and remains empty so you eat more. So - eat. But no crap.

As I confessed earlier breakfast was crap but lunch will be left over cauliflower mash and lentils from last night. Dinner tonight is salmon and leek and carrot puree. Need to drink lots of water and mint tea to flush out system.

Dinky - glad life is back to normal.

QT - we can do it!

Cheeese - hope pasta was nice!

Discuss/disagree.

dinkystinky · 22/06/2010 13:30

Oi Buda - STEP AWAY FROM THE BIFFING FOOD YOU BIFFA! Though sounds like you're doing penance with your lunch and dinner and if you do some exercise you should be able to pull it back.

Hmm Dukes, interesting list. I wouldnt have had fish down as such a filling food (says Dinky gnoshing down on sushi...)

QualityTime · 22/06/2010 16:10

I AM OFF THE PLATEAU

sorry about that, weighed myself this morning (I know, I know) and have dropped to 15 9.5. Hoo - rah

So, what are the top ten most filling foods?

  1. Potatoes (323% more satisfying than white bread)
  2. Fish (225%)
  3. Porridge/Oats/Oatmeal (209%)
  4. Apples (197%) and Oranges (202%)
  5. Wholewheat Pasta (188%)
  6. Beef (176%)
  7. Beans (168%)
  8. Grapes (162%)
  9. Wholemeal Bread (157%)
10. Popcorn (154%)

I don't think fish si filling tbh, or beans or grapes. Or popcorn.!

Discovered good tip at friends yesterday, she made us a salad with really finely chopped lettuce, cuke, toms, peppers, spring onions etc, because they were so finely chopped it was really, really tasty, I normally hack at stuff and sling it in a bowl. Did another salad like that today and I couldn't finish it all! weird! stuck carrots and radish in mine and then dressed with salad shaker, lemon juice and feta cheese. yum. going to have the rest wiht my griddled chicken for tea, others having couscous.

Was v good last night, period pain was bad so I did the ab thing from billy blanks, no jumping, so no pelvic issues, but 35 minutes of ab exercise killed my period pain!

BudaisintheZONE · 22/06/2010 17:31

Telling off accepted Dinky.

Have been good today otherwise. No exercise though. Rained all sodding day. And have workmen in and out so not up to any home exercising.

QT!!!! Well done!!!!

Aitch · 22/06/2010 21:13

i was so brilliantly off my plateau that i was down to 10 9 and a bit, but then had a Big Weekend and am back up at the 10 13 mark. still, better than losing and gaining the same two lbs that took me from 11 to 11 2, so it's progress.

yay dinks, boo buda.

BudaisintheZONE · 23/06/2010 11:31

Boo to you too Aitch! Was wondering where you were. Where is everyone else??? Well done on the 10 9! you'll get back to that in no time.

AM back in zone. Dinner last night was salmon and a leek and carrot puree thing from a Gillian McKeith book. Was OK - bit bland but felt healthy.

So far today have had muesli for b'fast and then met a friend for coffee so had 2 coffees. I do have sugar but only a little. Cam home hungry so had a banana and a yoghurt. Lunch will be salad with lentils, feta and some chicken.

Dinner tonight? No idea. Maybe steak and salad and baked potatoes.

QualityTime · 23/06/2010 15:13

afternoon all, PTA meeting this morning, succumbed to chocolate biscuits to keep me awake sane

welcome back to ZONE aitch!...

not sure about tea, probably chorizo and avocado salad, have reached tht horrible stage where I literally cannot afford more food until DH's payday so am scraping the fridgebarrel

Have friends visiting this weekend so have suggested bbq instead of chinese on sat night, which means I can biff on meat and salad, am a genius!

dinkystinky · 23/06/2010 16:16

Hi Aitch - nice to see you on and good to see you're still under 11 st despite a big weekend.

I have a hangover today. Have been eating my way out of it. White wine on an empty stomach at cricket not a good idea. Will return to the zone when hangover is gone. On plus side got a fab new haircut too today (while everyone else was off watching the footie I got a hair cut as couldnt face pub noise and smell - was quietest have ever seen the salon)

BBQ genius move Jak.

BudaisintheZONE · 23/06/2010 17:05

Chocolate biscuits QT!!! Tut tut.

Your scraping barrel salad sounds nice. When's payday?

dinky - thanks for hair mention - reminded me I need to make appointment to get mine done in Dublin next week. What's yours like? Hope hangover goes!

QualityTime · 23/06/2010 18:17

Payday on friday so not that big of a problem, we are both impressed we made it until now before running out what with 2 tyres on car adn 1 on motorbike, plus MOT's and DH's speeding fine

Not enough chorizo for me as well, they had that with cheese and pasta I had avocado salad, was yummy. My mates trick of chopping everything up really finely is awesome, can add loads I wouldn't normally add. Had lettuce, cabbage, radish, carrot, courgette, cucumber, tomato, pepper, and avocado, yum.

Aitch · 23/06/2010 19:09

yum, just made an impromptu chicken cacciatore and it was a huge success. dh and kids had it with jersey royals, the lucky things.

wonder what the scales will say tomorrow morn? i felt like i had been saintly yesterday but still stuck on 10 13 ish.

QualityTime · 23/06/2010 19:47

Okay, I am going to share my secret with you.
I find that if I am not losing and I biff, just a little, couple packs mini cheddars or some biscuits. The next day have LOST WEIGHT.
I am biffing ON PURPOSE now

That soudns yum aitch, what did you have with it? I am so over havign salad with everything. I had some couscous last night, it was yum.
I also had some corn pasta that I had for my mum in a pasta bake/lasagne thing (basically lasagne but with pasta shapes as then dd's can eat it with less drama) was okay, but not pasta.

DukesOfTripHazard · 23/06/2010 20:41

Hey Aitch, Buda, Dinky, QT and anyone out there.

QT I sliced my salad very thinly and it did look elegant. Romaine, spring onion, green olive, cuke, celery. With Roast pork.

I am squidgy. I don't like what my trousers are saying but also I've got AF and this heat doesn't agree with me. Will weigh tomorrow I think. I know, I know it's a high class problem as I think I've said before. But maintaining is no picnic

BudaisintheZONE · 23/06/2010 20:45

I had a baked potato with chilli for dinner. Been really good rest of day.

I like salads chopped really small too - must remember that trick.

Tomorrows food is planned. Going for manicure and pedicure inmorning. Need to get up early to walk dog first. Will need to walk her at 6 - not sure that will happen!!

Then need to do Tesco and sort packing for Friday.

Aitch · 23/06/2010 21:16

chicken cacciatore aka using up stuff from the fridge was onion, garlic, skinned and boned chicken thighs, pepper off the burner, carrot sticks, tin of toms, some manky toms, splash of wine and some elderly olives that needed a boil... fry a bit, stick in the oven for as long as it took to pick dd1 up from nursery and go to park. delicious.
