Dukan Diet, anyone trying it

1000 replies

uggmum · 26/04/2010 19:33

Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 26/04/2010 19:34

What does it entail?

uggmum · 26/04/2010 19:39

Protein only for first 5 days, then protein & limited veg for a period of time. When you have lost the weight you then re-introduce various food groups. eventually you can eat a totally normal diet but only protein 1 day a week to keep the weight off. I have the book and it kind of makes sense. Bit like slimming world without the sins and aktins without the cream/butter etc

MarshaBrady · 26/04/2010 19:42

I see. Yes Atkins is too fatty for me with the cream/butter/ bacon scenario.

Protein only for first 5 days will be quite hard. Eggs, meat, anything else?

GypsyMoth · 26/04/2010 19:50

Looked earlier on the website and I think I might try it

am low carbing but the fatty stuff in atkins doesn't seem to suit me! I'm so used to avoiding all the fatty things from years of calorie counting!

uggmum · 26/04/2010 21:25

My Mil started it a week ago and she has lost 6 pounds so far.
Today I have had bacon and poached egg for b/fast, sliced chicken for lunch. Steak and prawns for tea. No fat yogurt as a snack.
(all meat grilled) I have not been hungry yet. I am going to try to do the protein attack phase for 7 days. Arrgh!
The (dreaded) daily Mail ran articles on the diet last week.

I have the book on order, it is due next week from Amazon - I liked the sound of it from what I read

uggmum · 28/04/2010 22:55

3 days in and I have lost 4 pounds.

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 29/04/2010 09:29

Ooh well done!

How's the meat? What else have you been eating?

GypsyMoth · 29/04/2010 09:37

i'm still dithering over doing this.....not losing on atkins really, think i'm eating too much

PinkyWithABrain · 29/04/2010 22:12

I'm doing it! 3days into attack and have already lost 4pounds. Found yesterday tough-had a light head all day and was extremely pale but feel great today! Really missing carbs though...

uggmum · 29/04/2010 23:01

Had a nice tea, gammon steak with poached egg.
smoked salmon for lunch and 2 yogurts for snacks.
Its harder when I'm at work as boredom sets in.
I really wanted to do attack phase for 10 days.

I havn't really struggled yet. food is a bit dry though, meat prawns and fish) the book has recipes for various sauces so I will try to make them this weekend.

I even managed to take the dcs to Burger King and didn't steal a chip.

janieann · 30/04/2010 11:44

Have lost 7 pounds in 1 week. That's enough of an incentive for now. But yes I am bored, feel light-headed and no energy so will see how long I can last. Off to poach some salmon for lunch and make hubby lasagne for dinner......

No, not yet anyway. You have to have wheat bran every day to keep you regular.
I am now 5 pounds lighter, yippee!

OP posts:
PinkyWithABrain · 30/04/2010 23:12

I've lost 4 pounds 4 days in! The only thing I'm struggling with is bad breath and body odour...i wasn't expecting that! Sorted with deodorant and toothbrush in hand bag! Also, energy levels have started picking up again too! Can anyone tell me if bacon is ok if all the fat is cut off? Oh and if I have a couple of glasses of wine over the weekend is that going to undo all my good work? Can't wait for the book to arrive...

Hmmm, it sounds very interesting. Especially as I have 9lb left to go, and its not coming off, maybe this will shift it. Plus I have a wedding to go to, in which the average female guest will be a size 8.

Stuff it, Il give it a go. Eggs for breakfast it is then. Book available in Waterstones apparently.

Are you on the protein/veg days yet Uggmum, Pinky, Janieann?

PinkyWithABrain · 01/05/2010 11:23

Yup I'm into the protein and veg, it's grand, you just have to use your imagination to rustle up something tasty! What has kept me going though the bland food is the thought that "food is merely fuel". My big problem is that I am a serial comfort eater and carbs were my big downfall! When my parents split 6yrs ago I ballooned from a size 10 to a 16 in about 3months...have neve been able to shift the weight due to my emotional connection with food and this diet is not only helping me lose weight but it is sorting out my relationship with food!

I sound a little like a preacher but I am very imprssed with this diet, moreso because my DF and I can eat the same evening meal, just I don't have carbs!

Mrswill-go for it!

uggmum · 01/05/2010 13:17

I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 7.5 pounds in total and just can't believe it. I am going to do another 5 days on the attack phase then I will try veg a couple of days a week.
I have a really sweet tooth and I'm being saved by Muller Light No Fat yogurts and diet drinks.

OP posts:
smallishsheep · 01/05/2010 13:20

How can this be a healthy diet if you are eating and drinking that much aspartame?? I am a low carber by the way, but muller lights and diet drinks are about as shitty a food as you can get

uggmum · 01/05/2010 13:32

Its all about compromise and finding satisfactory alternatives. They may not be ideal but its better than the full fat version. When you move to the next phase you include veg so it will become healthier. I don't think they are the most shitty foods you can get, 2 yogurts and 1 can of diet coke per day as not that bad.
But at the end of the day the weight is coming off and that is all that matters at the moment.

OP posts:
smallishsheep · 01/05/2010 13:33

They're really not better than the full fat version.
But hey ho, glad the weight is coming off.

uggmum · 01/05/2010 13:47

I do understand where you are coming from and I do usually avoid aspartame. But my usual diet was full of crap, high fat/sugar foods.
The most important thing to me at the moment is weight loss and the yogurts are filling a hole that a box of cream cakes used to.(god I miss them) The diet is very limiting at this stage but I am hoping that in the end my body will be re-trained and I may not craze sweet things.

OP posts:
Myfallenheart · 01/05/2010 17:06

I'm doing it, I slipped up yesterday though as I made cupcakes for my kids, big mistake as I love them and I scoffed some. So the kids are cupcakeless until I am on the final phase of this diet lol.

I saw information for it on Facebook:

www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-Dukan-Diet/116116058411738

I bought the book off Amazon and although its not scheduled to be out yet I had it early - as have other people.

Myfallenheart · 01/05/2010 17:09

Oh anyone who is constipated try having fat free yogurt and adding psyllium husks to it, they really help. Not only will they make things easier in the bowels movement area but they also swell up and make you feel fuller. Drink loads of water after you've had some. The yogurt just makes them easy to eat when its mixed in. They don't taste of anything, have no carbs and less calories than oat bran.
