Old thread here

Nice new home for us now that March is over!

GettinTrimmer · 20/06/2010 10:27

The wi these days bebe are younger and trendier so i've heard. I bet that lemon curd is gorgeous, really tangy.

When we've been strawberry picking, i'll be asking you how to do jam...

PBM how the tiredness? hope you are ok, and as Blondes says, don't leave us, we do need your encouraging words. I remember my first pregnancy with nostalga in a funny sort of way - when I worked full time - I used to come home, didn't do anything (apart from cook tea) and was in bed by 8.30. Alot different with other little ones, hope you get a break today x

laughalot I meant to ask, on your profile - is that the latest pic of you (by the wallpaper?). The one further down, is that you on the left? I can see you have done brilliantly. How's you training going for classroom assistant? Have you finished the course?

blondes I am sure the rewards will come for you. Those trousers will go on! On the exercise front, if you can bear to fit in more (you already do loads), there is an exercise dvd called 30 Day Shred (20 mins long). It is very hard, but will bring results. £5.99 on amazon. I have lapsed a bit but one of the school run mums commented on my toned arms the other day so I can vouch for it.

I wonder if you are getting really toned and I am sure you are looking slimmer all the time even if the scales don't always bring the rewards.

I am SERIOUSLY kicking my butt now. Just going out jogging again. My family are coming round for tea today because it's father's day, so there's yet another tempting situation to face, but that's life...

I can't hack counting points/food focus any more (fatigue has set in) and lost my 1lb 2 weeks running (then gained the buggers again!) by healthy eating and watching portion sizes. Onwards and upwards (or rather downwards if talking about the scales!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2010 10:43

thanks for dvd - have ordered- no way my tummy will ever look like hers but will try

GettinTrimmer · 20/06/2010 11:56

Blondes I was just thinking about you while doing 30 Day shred (my arms feel like jelly, I've upped my weights!!) if you don't have dumbbells start off with tins of beans.

Just a suggestion - up the exercise to 5/6 days per week - this dvd is 20 mins, perhaps you could fit it in while the 2yo is sleeping or something and do it x3 days per week?

The only thing that works for me on the scales is upping exercise. I find following any diet regime very difficult after a while.

Anyway, enough blathering on from me. I must get myself to Sainsburys. Have a good day all x

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2010 12:10

you were thinking about ickel wickle me 9well large me)

tbh pratically impossible, no 3 does sleep 1.5/2hrs a day but 80% its in the car as doing things for no 1 and 2

tho sept will be nicer, both will be at school and then 9-3 freedom for me and babs can sleep in her ced/cot at home and then yes will have time

often when she is asleep im waiting outside tennis/gym/nursery etc and so fiddle on my iphone so seems i get lots of free time in my job as often on mn but not near a tv/dvd player - though works car does have dvd/tv in the back maybe i can do my work out in the car lol

bebejones · 20/06/2010 15:02

Have had the worst weekend (food wise) but been brilliant in all other respects!

I really need to find my Davina dvd, although can't do any exercise atm coz moving my arm is so painful!

lol at Blondes doing exercise in the back of the car!!

Trimmer - I haven't been food focusing lately either just can't be arsed! I know I shall have gained by Monday, I really need to get my head back in the game! Good Jam recipe here I need a bigger pot for making jam, but they are so expensive, am dropping massive hints to DH...don't think he is getting it!

Think our WI is probably full of little old dears round here! Although I might fit right in! Have made lemon curd yesterday, a gluten free choc cake/torte & elderflower cordial today! Obviously not going to be consuming any much of it, but I love making it! I think I actually do give most of it away! The GF cake is for someone my DH works with as he is coeliac & I felt bad that he never gets to have anything I make for DH to take in! It's very yummy, but way too rich to have more than a teeny tiny slice! Making Lentil & Sweet potato curry for dinner with brown rice so that'll help rein things back in from the last couple of days! Maybe?!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 20/06/2010 15:56

Well, I always say never miss an opportunity Blondes!

I think pelvic floor exercises would be alright in the car I suppose a few dumbbell raises could be done.

bebe sorry about your arm. Have you been given pain killers?

Thanks for the jam recipes.

Can you post your recipe for lentil and sweet potato curry? Sounds very filling and scrummy.

You put me to shame with all that cooking. Tea is quiche from Sainsburys and lots of other scrummy things ready packed

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2010 17:49

my pelvics are just fine

but may do some lunges on the doorframe

rceipes are yummy bebe, have you eveer thought of being a cook or baking cakes etc to sell in a coffee shop/cafe/ etc

bebejones · 20/06/2010 18:30

Trimmer - Been given some diclofenac for the arm, is just so painful so feeling very sorry for myself & trying to be busy so I don't end up wallowing in self pity!

Lentil & Sweet Potato Curry
Ingredients
Fry Light
1 Onion, chopped
1 Red Pepper, chopped
1 Medium Sweet Potato, peeled & cut into chunks
1 can lentils, drained (I used green ones but red are better if you can get them!)
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
Curry paste/powder to taste
1pint veg/chicken stock
couple of bay leaves

Fry Onion & red pepper in fry light in large casserole dish/saucepan

Add sweet potato, lentils, tomatoes, curry paste, stock & bay leaves

Cover & simmer until potato is soft, stir occasionally so it doesn't burn/stick.

I also add broccoli & cauliflower (& sometimes chickpeas) if I have some. Is very quick really (as you can just chuck it all in & leave it pretty much) & yummy! Obviously curry powder is healthier than paste as the paste has oil in, but I think it tastes better with paste and isn't too bad if you use fry light!

Blondes - don't think i'd be that good a professional chef, I'm very much of a chuck-it-all-together (sloppy) 'hope for the best' sort of cook!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2010 19:15

Blondes - if you are doing all this exercise & now getting into smaller clothes maybe you are sts because you are gaining a little muscle, so losing inches but not weight IYSWIM? Is a possibility!

PBM - you poor thing! Tiredness when PG is horrid, hopefully you will feel better when the 2nd Trimester kicks in!

Laughalot - loving the wallpaper, my DH would never let me use it though...I had to tricd him into letting me paint my living room pink!

Really need a kick up the bum food wise, am off to my mums Friday & that always makes the diet go out the window! Need to be really good but just don't have the energy of enthusiam to care at the moment!

OP posts:
bebejones · 21/06/2010 07:48

Sorry for typos...not awake yet!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 21/06/2010 09:36

bebe thanks for the recipe. Very low GI I think would fill me up for hours.

You are my gaining friend this week. It's just too easy isn't it?

On the plus side, I have just been told that it really shows I've lost weight

laughalot do you need updating? That Austin Powers paper would go well in my house, it is a genuine 1960s model (built in '61).

PBM I remember feeling tired like that. How many weeks are you now? It gets better after 12 weeks.

My ds is not coping very well atm, he's had enough, the end of term can't come too quickly! So difficult to get things into perspective when we can't recharge our batteries. He came home crying on Friday He is a sensitive person, at only 7 it's all very bewildering when you're so overloaded and tired.

I have heard people saying really negative things about my dcs school, the ofsted wasn't great and parents around here have very high expectations, but his teacher and emotional support lady are brilliant with him, and both my dc are advancing educationally. I would say when looking for a school (I know many of you have really little people so not relevant yet!) get a feel for it and the ofsted report isn't the be all and end all.

bebejones · 21/06/2010 09:56

Trimmer - the curry made me feel really full last night, definately a good dinner, prob better in autumn/winter than summer though!

Your poor DS. Hope things aren't too bad for the next few weeks. The school I want DD to go to is attached to the playgroup we go to toddlers at. It's just so small & lovely & the kids are so polite & seem very happy. It's a village school essentially (although not the only one in our large village ) it definately has a village sort of charm about it. Just hoping she gets a place when the time comes as it's where most of her little playgroup friends will go too.

Not surprised at all about the gain, been limiting my activity (although still seemed to have been very busy) and have eaten like a king pig this weekend! Jeans still falling down though, maybe it's pre AF water retention

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2010 11:47

LAUGHALOT well done on 1 lb loss and enjoy your holiday, i dread to think what i will weigh when i come back from 11 days all inclusive
BEBE sorry you gained but you thought you would
TRIMMER lunges are not happening and sorry your ds7 is suffering - i know all about ofsted, and sometimes it is worth changing school - my eldest charge is in sept as school isnt pushing her enough, she is quite brainy so from sept i will have 2 school runs 5miles apart - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

yes i am getting into smaller clothes/or back into them as got too fat for them but i still have a tummy and i do measure myself and ive lost 3cm in amonth - bloody pathetic

today is also going to be a write off as i am doing a 2nd birthday party for my youngest (was 2 sunday) and i have been munching on the crips/sausages/dips and not even the party yet

but least it is sunny - have 9 1/2/3yrs - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

woofa is mounfully looking at the food

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/06/2010 14:58

GT - I so agree with you about OFSTED reports. They are very subjective and therefore aren't worth very much. I once worked in a very expensive part of London, houses were several million plus, all very posh ( or so OFSTED thought just by superficially looking ) but what they didn't realise was there were plenty of families living in one bed flats in these big houses, really struggling, and that there was a half way house for refugees coming in from Iraq and Afghanistan. They also asked one class of 5 year olds who had a computer of their own at home and of course they all put up their hands, and then that information was used in the report as if it were fact. Absolute tripe. Gut instinct is better, you have a look and think, can I imagine my child being happy here? And can I imagine myself as a parent here?

OFSTED rant over! That must have burnt some calories!

GT I hope your son is a bit brighter today - do you finish at the end of July?

bebe - lovely curry recipe - we will try that when we get our kitchen back together

laughalot - am loving the Austin POwers wallpaper! And you are off too Have a fab time!

Blondes - well done on the size 12 dress - when are you actually off on hols? Am so it's not true! You will have a fab time!

PBM - hope the pregnancy is going well - I remember that tiredness - its so debilitating

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/06/2010 15:00

Ah Trimmer im so sorry your ds is having a hard time my little sister had an awful time at primary school and cryed daily before and after school the final straw was one day my mother was cleaning her room and found a diary she was keeping, read it and my sister had wrote she just wished she didnt wake up anymore at least then she wouldnt have to go to school my mother went to the other local school (just a mile in the other direction) are TOLD them my little sister would be starting on monday! They were fantastic to her and she gained confidence and was so happy there (she was 10 when she moved and my mother wishes she had done it years earlier) it caused a huge stir, we live in the back of beyond middle of nowhere "village" (a church, shop and two pubs) everyone talked about it, my father went ape he did not want to make a bag fuss and have ppl "talkin" but it was the best thing in the world for my sister and it has changed who she grew up to be (she's 18 now) but it was so good for her. Im absolutly sure you know whats best for your ds and i really truely hope it gets better for him soon this is just my experience it might be totally diff with your ds but just wanted to "share"

Blondes why cant dc2 go to dc1 new school too? Hope you enjoy the party but STOPS NIBBLING! Start cutting vegi's and munch on some carrots/celery or apples etc and put down then sausages!

Bebe sorry bout the gain but at least its your only gain since jan isnt it? And it'l fly off ya, back to the soups now lady

Poohbearsmom · 21/06/2010 15:18

Well done on your loss Piste you must look so slinky now lol at your rant workout! all made sence to me, if someone asked my ds's if they had a computer they'd say ya 4! Cause they call their toy lap tops their computers but sadly we dont have even one "real" one

bebejones · 21/06/2010 15:18

PBM - deffo back on the soups, just made some carrot, pepper & tomato soup for dinner! Have had a couple of small gains since Jan I think. Not too bothered though, I know I can get it off again & I've lost soooo much that I'm not going to beat myself up about it!

Piste - well done on the loss!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 22/06/2010 09:49

Morning all

blondes Hard work with x2 school runs in september (can understand reasons for change of school though), but as you say 9 to 3 will give you a breather. Do you have them all the time over the summer hols?

My ds has been better, he slept for Britain last night. He is one of the youngest children in the year, it all gets a bit much for him, also he is left handed and finds handwriting laborious, tires him out all the more.

piste interesting about ofsted! There's a school close by that got outstanding for everything, but there's still parents who aren't happy. I know one parent who is very upset as she feels the school can't help with her ds's special needs.

Oh, and well done on your 2lb!!

PBM that is so sad about your little sis, poor thing having to go through all that Did she have problems with teachers and friendships? Hope you OK x

bebe that soup sounds lovely.

Hope your dd gets a place at the school, have you got her name down for the pre-school yet?

With any luck it'll be us saying we've lost 2lb at next weigh in.

I am off to aerobics this morning, it's beautiful weather here, and I don't feel like it. I'll feel great when I've done it...

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/06/2010 10:17

PISTE congrats on 2lb loss and agree ofsted isnt worth the paper they are written on

LAUGHALOT hideous wallpaper works kitech is all done - took 5 weeks

PBM i nibbled tons and dc2 isnt that brainy and would struggle at the school where dc1 is going (private)

BEBE sorry about the gain but you will get it off next week, prob with 4lbs loss

TRIMMER i only work 3 days a week and got a few weeks off so actually only working 9 days during summer

right manic day calls, byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
