I really AM going to Low Carb this time...

And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

id ont see how you can lose weight ( beyond the initial weightloss) on 50g of carbs a day.

welcome back all the same!

my DH has started LCing from sunday. he has done it before - he is bordering on fat bastard status at the moment and i have told him so! this will make things tonnes easier for me i think - plus will enjoy cooking him my newly found tried and tested recipes - i have new LC vigour!

Just a quick update. Thanks for all the kind comments - I have been fairly one-track mind since January, but I did have a colossal amount to lose (at least 4 stone) and I'm now just hovering over halfway there. It is brilliant to have got to a point where my goal weight seems realistic - up till now I didn't really believe it was possible, but now I know it is. And it's down to me really: I've been slipping a bit over Easter so keep moving up and down the same 3 pounds, but now am going to start trying to move down again.

I don't know if this is wise, but I haven't been exercising particularly... I am sort of 'saving' it () for when I'm a stone away from my goal, so I can a. deal with any plateaus, and b. start eating a bit more carby stuff (eg porridge for breakfast) to work out something closer to a 'normal' diet.

I don't want to stop this when I hit my goal, I want to do the 'tweaking' thing that the Idiot Proof Diet recommends to work out how many carbs you can get away with.

It is a bit horrific how quickly the weight goes on when you do eat them again, so I need to calibrate things. I'm hoping there'll be a point where it will level off... Does anyone else have any experience of this?

evening all

Can I please join?

Started Atkins 2 and a half weeks ago. Need to lose 4+ stone. Particularly need to shift as much as I can before June as I am to be my sister's bridesmaid and cannot bear the thought of the photos ( )

Anyway, have so far lost about 10lbs and am not finding it too hard, staying on induction for a good while with possible extra bits like nuts and that.

I really need to find a curry recipe though!

Need my curry, I do..

ohnono · 17/04/2010 21:50

mrsb
just started here too - i had about 5 st to lose and have already lost nearly 1 stone so we are about the same stage. I love curry too - will let you know when i sort out a good recipe. I will miss the nan bread!

bunjies · 19/04/2010 09:52

Phew! Kids back at school today so can breathe a sigh of relief!

Weight has been fairly steady over the last month but I'm not worried as I have been drinking lots of wine.

A good tip for curry lovers is creamed coconut stirred in. It's very high in fat and very low in carbs so absolutely perfect nutrition wise. It also tastes yummy. I usually cook curries like this:

Heat about cm of oil in wok and add 3 whole cloves, 3 cardomom pods and an inch of cinnamon. Cook for a few minutes until they start to go darker in colour. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Add 8 chicken thighs and brown. Add garlic and ginger paste made up of a clove of garlic and half an inch of ginger pounded in pestle and mortar (you could cheat and use jarred). Mix it in all in and leave to cook for a few mins. Then add tsp of turmeric, tsp of ground cumin, 1/2tsp ground coriander and 1/2tsp ground chilli (or more if you like it hot). Mix and cook out for 5 mins. Add half a block of creamed coconut and a pint of water. When the coconut has dissolved, add salt to taste and simmer for about 30 mins.

Jacaqueen · 19/04/2010 10:55

I see it has all gone a bit quiet on here!

As of today I am going to be having a protien shake for breakfast and lunch followed by a low carb dinner. Or I may eat at lunchtime and have shake for dinner.

I feel great look better but the weight is just not coming off fast enough. Infact the weight is not coming off atall at the moment.

I'm either eating too many carbs too many calories or my metabolism has stopped working. Hopefully this will kick start my weight loss and after a few weeks I can go back to proper lowcarb.

How is everyone else doing now?

Jacaqueen · 19/04/2010 10:58

That sound like a lovely curry bunjies.

Welcome Mrsboogie you sound as though you are doing great. Well done.

Jacaqueen · 22/04/2010 10:30

mrsboogie · 22/04/2010 14:11

glintwithpersperation · 22/04/2010 19:14

Hello! Can I join you all?

I started low carbing using Rose Elliots vegetarian book this week - today I had:

B: 2 veg sausage, 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast
L: goats cheese, pecans and chicory salad
D: Mackerel (I east fish occasionally so not really a vegetarian and green leaf, cucmber and avocado salad.
Snack: few almonds, marinated tofu.

I have been feeling proper awful (started on tues) but better today. I am a real carb addict (bread especially) and a bit of a binger. I have never pursued no carb before, Ive just tried to cut down, its breakfasts that are the biggest worry as I am a bit of a porridge queen. Im really not a massive fan of eggs and not a huge dairy eater (does awful things to my guts if I eat too much). But I am so totally pissed off with being the size I am (16/18). Ive never been skinny but I would like to loose at least 1 1/4 stone (pref 2 stone). Ive been going back and forwards to WWs but it isnt working for me anymore, as I get so stressed about the weigh in that I would start eating out of stress! Ridiculous. I know that a low carb diet isnt going to solve some of the emotional issues I have in relation to food, but Im hoping that if my blood sugar levels are a bit more stable that I wont be suffering from so many 'internal stresses' (if that makes sense)!

Oh and I've given up alcohol - I was looking at my DHs beer earlier but resisted!

Hi I'm also still around just been busy. I am still maintaining losing weight. I am 2 lbs away from having lost 2 and 1/2 stones. So quite pleased. Although was telling my DH even though I know I have lost weight as wearing smaller dress sizes, when we go on holiday next month will still not feel confident as will still look overweight. iyswim So you can't win can you. Just need to keep on going, going to have the weekend off and hope I still manage to lose next week as its my two year olds birthday party and getting a cake from costco which is delicious so hoping I can get rid of most of it and not be tempted to eat too many slices

Hope everyone is still doing well and remember to keep going as it will be so worth it when you reach your goal.

mummymels · 30/04/2010 17:45

That's brilliant Mitchell, you must be feeling great. How much more would you like to lose? I love those Costco cakes, we normally get those for our DC's birthday too. They are such good value for money aren't they and yummy. I hope your DC has a good birthday.

Mitchell81 · 30/04/2010 19:26

Thanks I am half way at least 2 stone to lose to get to size 10/12. How are you doing?

glintwithpersperation · 02/05/2010 09:58

Hi all I lost 5lbs in my first week. I have had a couple of slip ups mainly involving alcohol. I am so pleased as it hadn't really been that hard (just weird) and my obsessive picking has diminished by around 80% which I'm so chuffed about.
Good luck to you all

violetqueen · 02/05/2010 10:17

Ok - love this thread and have been trying to read through whole thing ,only got to page 11 .
Must get on with RL ,sigh .
I did India /Nerys book inspired low carb - fab lost weight ,,,,,,but fell off wagon because I missed fruit and hated constipation .
Can anyone help me with the missing fruit and particularly the constipation ?

CallSignCharlie · 02/05/2010 21:19

Hello

Can i join you all?

I started low carbing today I've got the New Atkins book but I'm not following it to the letter, just the general ideas. I lost a stone on old Atkins 5 years ago (pre DC) but put it on, with interest and now have a stone and a half to loose

I'm looking for some moral support, inspiration and all round thin vibes please

violetqueen · 02/05/2010 22:59

glintwith - I thought I'd die without my morning museli ,but ,altho no longer doing low carb ,I'm still happily converted to breakfast of bacon and mushrooms .
But still hoping for help with no carb induced constipation ...
Not sure I can face that again .

CallSignCharlie · 03/05/2010 12:03

Mitchell, that's great 2 and 1/2 stone. wow
I've had cheese omlette for brekkie this morning and am preparing an avocado salad for lunch.
Scales show 2 lbs off since yesterday
Violet, are flaxseeds supposed to help constipation,

mummymels · 04/05/2010 23:04

Mitchell - That's great. Things were going really well but I had a bit of a pig out this weekend. I think it must have been some sort of rebellion from dieting for so long plus we had MIL's 70th birthday. Oh well, back to it this week! I have another 1.5 - 2 stone to go. I'll see how I go as to when I stop.

Glint - That is a brilliant loss. Well done you. You must feeling so good with yourself.

Violet - Sorry I can't help. I have been pretty lucky on that front and not had that side effect.

Charlie - Hi and welcome to the thread. Good luck with your new diet.

BelfastBloke · 16/05/2010 14:58

I'm quite familiar with Atkins, and have used it successfully a couple of times.

I'm experimenting with it at the moment. Atkins in the week and nothing on Saturdays. Wasn't someone else on this thread doing something similar a while ago?

I started a week ago, dropped 5lbs in a week, then on Saturday I had planned to go to a party and so just went crazy on everything. After the first meal (full English breakfast with toast plus chips) I could feel the blood pounding through my veins. Ate loads of everything at the party.

Sunday morning first thing I've put on 6lbs. Now back on Atkins. Am curious to see if overall my weight drops, even if I take two steps back every Saturday. Am only going to experiment with this for a few weeks.

chickenPsyc · 18/05/2010 11:47

Is this thread still going?

I'm toying with Atkins at the moment but as I have a dodgy belly, I find it difficult to go as low as 20g carbs without bad side-effects (acute constipation!).

I have no appetite at the moment however, so dieting is easy

This morning I had peanut butter on brown toast. That is my carbs for the day. For lunch I had a chicken thigh with salad. I'm now bloated. My belly must have shrank because I can't seem to eat much at all lately without feeling sick and bloated afterwards.

anyway, will see how I get on this week with my low carbing.

mummymels · 29/05/2010 09:01

Hi ChickenPsych - are you drinking enough water? You need to drink lots and hopefully it will help the bloatedness and nausea.

BelfastBloke - How are you finding it now doing Atkins during the week and not at the weekend?
