And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

Well after my first week of low carbing I have weighed myself and I have lost 7 1/2 pounds

I am so pleased , I know it is the first week so you always lose a big old chunk but half a stone is fab . Just one more week of being ridiculously strict and then I will have a bit more leeway .

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 09:39

Travelling wilbury, that is absolutely amazing, well done! You will be grinning all day today!

Had my weigh in and have lost 4lbs! Very pleased as I dont ever lose that much in one week (crap metabolism which is shot to bits by too much dieting) and now only have just over 2 1/2 stone to lose. So to me 4lbs is amazing!

Waiting for my Tesco delivery. Have meal planned for the week and am planning to make lots of the recipes from the book. And my supplements and whey powder are in transit...

Feeling very positive and determined. Thanks to everyone for picking me up when I was feeling down. I am feeling scarily confident that the diet and you lot are going to help me finally get to where I want to be...

travellingwilbury · 29/03/2010 09:57

Thanks gibberish and well done you

What recipe book have you got ? I can see that my food intake is getting pretty repetative already . It would be good to have some new ideas .

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 10:28

I am following Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet and have their cookbook. Is very good! And not too expensive on amazon either.

Am going to a Zumba class for the first time ever tonight (gulp). Have just dug out my trainers and sweatpants and blown the dust off. It may kill me.

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 10:29

Actually I'd recommend you get the diet book too. Is fab.

travellingwilbury · 29/03/2010 11:01

Thanks I will have a look for it .

Good luck tonight , I dread to think what a zumba class is .

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 11:20

Thanks hehe. Is a cross between Latin American dancing and exercise. As far as I can see... very fast and sweaty. But apparently is suitable for all levels.

I'll let you know how it goes. If I'm still alive that is.

Had chopped up eggs with butter for brekkie. Yum.

Easy fish pate with celery for lunch

Chorizo rapido with salad for dinner

MrsDoolittle · 29/03/2010 12:07

Morning Ladies,
Do you mind if I join you?

I would like to lose 2 stone, although 1 would be good.

I have lost almost 3 stone before low carbing (South Beach Diet), so I know it works. I would like some other people to do it with this time and some new recipe ideas.

I started Tesco's 3 weeks ago but I'm not impressed. I'm too hungry and the diet is really not interesting.

I'll start today. I've had Branflakes, semi-skimmed milk, a glass of orange juice, (a cadbury's creme egg because I'm disappointed I haven't lost weight), a nectarine and now a small handful of nuts. I need to start now..

Any ideas for lunch? I have lots of eggs.

MrsDoolittle · 29/03/2010 12:13

And I'm inspired by all the great weight loss going on here

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 12:39

Hello MrsDoolittle Glad you are joining and that you are an old hand. Can pick your brains from time to time!

How about crustless quiche with salad for lunch? You can put pretty much anything in it.

6 lge eggs
8 oz dble cream
shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, brie etc.)
1 to 2 cups of cooked meat (bacon, sausage, chicken, ham etc) Seafood version with crab prawns tuna, salmon etc. Sliced mushrooms
chopped onion to taste (optional) - (remember the carbs!)
broccoli or other cooked veggie (optional)
2 chopped chillies (seeds removed)

Whip up the eggs and cream. Fold in other ingredients. Butter the pan 9 x 13 or thereabouts. Pour in pan. Bake 45 mins, depending on appearance - browned is best) at 350 degrees Gas mark 4 or until cooked through (mine took over an hour)

MrsDoolittle · 29/03/2010 12:59

Wow gibberish, that is stunning!!! I've got all the ingredients except the cream.

Do you use a quiche dish for that?

I'd had lunch by the time I got around to this (roast chicken slices, a handful of salad and a spoonful of mayo) but I'm going to make this for this evening's dinner with dh - he'll love this.
I have a flock of free-ranging hens and I'm snowed under with eggs at the moment. I've been disappointed because the Tesco diet doesn't allow more than one egg a day.

Thank you!

One of my favourite low carb dinners has to be tarragon chicken - let me know if you'd like to try it....

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 16:48

Yeah, a shallow dish will do.

Can't take the credit I'm afraid. I nicked it from Neris & India's forum! Is very good though. You should have a gander... www.twigtopig.com. You can have as many eggs as you like! I really couldnt get on with Tescodiets myself. This diet is much more along my street.

FrazzledBlob · 29/03/2010 17:04

well I still can't eat. a hospital trip has resulted in the vague diagnosis of gastroenteritis and gallstones.

suggested treatment being a low fat diet and surgery.

I can't go back on a low fat diet. I have tried and failed for years. Low carbing is the only thing that has worked for me.

I feel utterly fed up. If anyone has any ideas on how I can try and continue a LC diet it would be very much appreciated

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 17:09

Frazzled so for you. Afraid I cant offer any advice but hopefully some of the ones who have been low carbing for a while (Custardo?) can help.

FrazzledBlob · 29/03/2010 17:18

thanks gibberish.

your quiche sounds yummy. I have been doing something similar for a snack in work. got some silicone cake cases from the pound shop and made mini quiches.

They also had a silicone loaf/cake tin which would be great for bread making. Oh and some toastie pockets so you can make low carb bread and do your own toasted sarnies.

arrgh my brain is in stuck in low carb!

The other thing i have noticed doing this diet is that i really enjoy food now - not just scoffing it but i am loving being in the kitchen and even end up glued to cooking programmes

gibbberish · 29/03/2010 18:18

I'm the same. Am having to cook fresh each day but am really enjoying it!

Had gorgeous dinner tonight - sauteed onion, fennel, pepper and chorizo with cheese melted over. Dead easy and quick and really lovely. Oh I do love food!

Off to Zumba now (eek!) Am trying to persuade dd1 to come with me. Will be back later. I hope.

bunjies · 29/03/2010 21:07

Hello, can I join you? I've only just found this thread and it's taken me two evenings to get through it . I've been doing low carb since July 08 but have only lost 2 stone in that time. I am a mahoosive tortoise and the weight comes off v e r y slowly for me BUT I have lost loads of inches and look better than I have for years. I can finally fit into size 12 clothes after peaking at 16/18 and believe me, at only 5'1", that is not a good look. Frustratingly I've still got another 2 stone to go (ideally 2.5) so I'm in this for the long haul. I started doing the Idiot Proof Diet by Neris & India but have tweaked it so that I follow a slightly different plan. Basically I try to eat a fat:protein:carb ratio of 2:1.5:1. This basically translates to 2g of fat to 1.5g of protein to 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight. For me, eating more fat has made a difference, crazy I know!

Custy - you probably don't remember me but I met you on a mn meetup in Brighton years and years ago. I was the sad one who showed you a picture of my dcs .

Hello Sally, how nice to see you!.
Have you really lost 2 stone since I saw you last??

I have had baked pollack, pancetta with artichoke sauce this evening. Basically, I sliced open two pollack loin pieces (one for dh and one for me) put a teaspoonful of artichoke sauce in each, then wrapped them up in pancetta. Drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice before serving. Eaten with a cracking leek and white bean salad.

Hell I've missed good food like this!

I have bought the double cream for the my crustless quiche tomorrow. And I've registered on the Pig2twig site

Thanks ladies, this is just what I needed

Supersal dont worry about the binge I had bad yesterday too. You sound like me, it seems we need to use a food binge as a coping mechanism to deal wih stress, anger or whatever. Following this plan has made me more aware of this behaviour now I just have to fix it.

Frazzled so sorry to hear about the gallstones. I have no advice just loads of sympathy. Hope you can find a way to continue.

Gibberish how was Zumba class. Sounds terrifying.

Welcome bunjies and MrsDoolitlle.

Well as you all know I have been frustrated at the slow weight loss so last week I decided that I would really clean up my diet, cut back on the nuts and the cheese and mainly stick to meat and veg. In doing this I also cut back on the calories and as a result by Sunday morning I had lost 7lbs from last Mondays weigh in.

I was in deep ketosis and not hungry. My energy levels were increased. Now I dont know what did the trick. Could be down to the lower carbs. Maybe I have a problem with nuts or dairy. Or my calories might have been too high before.

I managed to survive two days of celebrations for my DS birthday. Wasn't tempted by the cake or the sweets, crisps, sandwiches etc. Then on Sunday after my fantastic weigh in, I went a bit crazy and started to pick at leftovers etc. This carried on for most of the day and continued into yesterday when I was eating all sorts of carb ladden crap.

I've done this before. A few weeks ago I went away for the weekend and stuck to the plan only to binge when I got home. It's like I recent having to be 'good' and feel that somehow I have missed out and deserve to eat. The crazy thing is I love eating low carb food and dont feel deprived in the slightest at the time.

Excuse my amatuer psyco babble, but it seems to me that I think I am using treat food to reward myself for being good and losing weight. But infact I am using crap food to punish and sabotage myself.

Now I am aware of what I am doing to myself I just have to work out why and find a way to stop it.

I feel more positive today. I am going to glug loads of water and stick to eggs, meat and veg for the next few days. We are away for Easter so I will relax the regime slightly but intend to low carb as much as I can over the hoildays.

gibbberish · 30/03/2010 09:41

Morning soontobeskinnies!

Hi bunjies. I'm 5ft 1 too and lose very slowly but still have just under 3st to lose. Looks like we might be chatting a lot!

MrsDoolittle, join the February / March 2010 starters - I'll give you a wave when you post!

Welcome londonlottie. No experience of b/f (4 kids and failed every time - need to join the bad mother's club...) Am sure there are loads who can help though!

Sal and Jaqa - today is a new day. Come on, sort yourselves out ladies! You've been doing great. Focus on why you want to do this. Get prepared for the day and off you go again. Did that help?

Feeling fab today. Zumba was AMAZING! If there is a class near you please go! Were ladies of all ages, sizes and abilities there. So if you feel a bit embarassed about joining because you still have a bit to go to get to your goal - don't! Were loads there in the same boat. Was loads of fun - great music, great sexy salsa/rumba/cha cha moves. Amazing exercise (my legs and arms are going to be agony tomorrow). Have decided to go twice a week. If you can do it, do it please! Gives you such a buzz and is a brilliant motivator. You'll feel so good.
