And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

So hungry this afternoon but managed to nibble of some turkey and cheese and avoided the high carb stuff.
Off to drink more tea (caffeine free)! waiting for ketosis stix to arrive so can track those.

bunjies · 07/04/2010 19:20

Gibbberish - don't feel too disheartened by the small loss. When I first started I lost 6lbs the first week but then PUT ON 2lbs the second for a net loss of 4lbs! I am a tortoise though and have never experienced those huge weight losses people crow talk about and I've got a lot to lose. But hang in there, it will come off eventually.

WilfSell · 07/04/2010 19:30

Hi all

I'm still here but lurking mostly atm, as am busy with RL, work etc.. Anyhow, still going and been mostly disciplined over easter (though have just broken off a bit of a Lindt bunny from the fridge as was overcome with an unusual chocolate craving... the good thing though was I really wasn't that interested after the first few bites!)

I'm still pretty motivated, although my weightloss is slow and gradual now, but keeping going because I am now within sight of a 'normal' weight... I'm still a Man's Weight but I'm getting there. And because mostly I don't feel hunger or cravings and I still get to eat cheese and wine and cream, I think I can sustain it.

I may not post again for a while so good luck and keep at it!

Thanks bunjies, that really helps. I'm feeling much better about what I have lost now. At least I am losing and not putting on which is usually the norm!

jeans, I'm a bit addicted to the stix! Is great fun seeing what shade they turn... am one from the deepest shade! All very satisfying. I did read a bit about them before I got them and it says that they dont always show with some people. Do with me thankfully - just another little thing to keep me motivated and helps to convince me that I am doing this right.

Wilfsell, brilliant to know you are still going! You cant have that much longer to go.

According to my BMI I am no longer obese - just very overweight apparently! That's good news (in a rather roundabout way).

jeansnolongerfit · 07/04/2010 20:56

Gibberish, I did read this about the stix but thought it would be worth a try.
How many daily carbs are you working on?
I just received a small carb counter book and a low carb recipe book, so hopefully will use these to control/manage it all.

bunjies · 07/04/2010 21:23

No problem Gibb. It's great when you can say you are no longer in the obese category isn't it?! I'm only a little way under but still...!

thereistheball · 08/04/2010 07:43

Hi Gibberish. Well done on the loss. I like the stix too. But I understood that the deep shades mean that you're not drinking enough water. If you're properly hydrated then you should be flushing the ketones out of your system too well for them to accumulate to give you the very darkest shades. You'd expect the stix to be darker first thing in the morning but if they stay that way throughout the day, have something to drink! The water should help the weight to come off even faster.

just checking in.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking on here for ages, and decided to finally join in.
I've just finished induction- doing Atkins, but as I'm veggie following Rose Elliot's book too.
I switched straight from doing Weightwatchers-it left me bloated and tired and bleh from all the low fat high carb crap, and I'm feeling so much better now!
Lost 7lbs during induction, and sticking to 20g of carbs a day as I've got just over 3 stone to lose, but adding in some berries, and nuts. Still haven't given up the diet pepsi though!

jeansnolongerfit · 08/04/2010 14:39

Day three going well here. A trip to the shops on the weekend trying on some clothes - enough motivation to keep me going for awhile!

Well done Wisp, how long did your induction last?

Wisp · 08/04/2010 17:47

jeansnolongerfit- Great name, but they'll be falling off you soon!
I did induction for 2 weeks, but I'm happy to stay on 20g carbs, as I'm eating loads and don't feel the need for any more! Bloody love this diet!

MrsDoolittle · 08/04/2010 21:59

I caved in

Last night I broke into ds' chocolate chicken and ate half, tonight I ate the other half.

So today's been a rough day really. Too late to do anything exciting this morning I had celery and peanut butter.
Tomato, cucumber, celery and lots of cocktail sausages at a work lunch.

Starving hungry on the way home, stopped at Waitrose, I had a handful of smoked almonds, a few of those fab salami sausage bites and, so weak, couldn't resist ds's pickled onion Monster Munch (I loved them at school).

Pork loins steaks with leek and bean salad.

It could have been worse..right up to the point where I ate the rest of the chocolate chicken. Now it's all shot to bits. I'm back where I started.

Hello, sorry if im joining a bit late.

Just wanted to see if my menu today is low enough..

morning: 2 scrambled eggs - no butter
2 healthy living rashers
100g closed cup mushrooms, smidge
of butter, salt, pepper
Decaf coffe, 2 teaspoons dbl cream.

Lunch: 50g green leaf salad
1 whole can of tuna( brine )
1 large table spoon french mayo.
1/4 red onion chopped
35g cucumber chopped
1 slice pre packed mild cheddar cheese

snack: 4 slices of pastrami - carb free completely

Dinner: Chicken breast- small
80g frozen spinach ( microwaved )
100g flat mushroom with garlicbutter
100ml cream sauce with blue cheese50g

Coffee with tablespoon cream and sweetner.
also had a smal glass of orange fizz, not sweetened with aspartmen though

how about it? is that alright?

ive counted the carbs until dinner, was about 15. something, and there wasn't much carbs listed in the breakdown list on the veg etc so im pretty sure im within the 20 carb a day so far.

really need and want to do this.
Have a sweet tooth so am going to need something like a square of dark chocolate sometimes or a fruit tea.

will i lose weight on just 20 carbs a day do you think? my bmi is 40sih.

Tortington · 09/04/2010 20:51

yeah 20g p day you will lose weight initially at least.

you should be allowed a SMALL cup of veg per day - you should really calculate your mushrooms

also the orange fizz might have ruined the whole thing

you can use as much butter as you like.

mrsboogie · 09/04/2010 23:07

what kind of orange fizz?

if its got sugar in you will have stopped burning fat.

OTTMummA · 10/04/2010 14:20

ugh, yeah it had sucralose (sp?) in it,
I must admit i find it hard to give up my fizz, to have just one glass yesterday was extremely unusual.
Does anyone know if i can drink any kind of fizz on this diet, if so what is it and where can i get it?!

Today have avoided it like the plauge but am dying for a nice icy fizzy drink

Mitchell81 · 10/04/2010 20:32

Yes you can have diet fizzy drinks, I find pepsi max, diet coke are all fine. HTH

I have managed to get back on track after falling off over easter and have returned to my weight before the Easter weekend, so now I carry on.

somewhereinlondon · 11/04/2010 12:17

Go lower, reccommend no diet drinks, but they are trying to break the sugar cravings. Just a thought.

Are you drinking enough water? this can be filling.

Hi I've not been on here for ages as we were away for Easter and had no internet.

Didn't really low carb last week just eat what I fancied and tried to be normal!

The scales are a few pounds up but not nearly as much as I was expecting. Hopefully a few days of being strict and glugging loads of water will get me back to my pre Easter weight. Then I really need to crack on and get at least 3 stones off.

The children are still off school for another week but the holidays are over for me so no more wine and ice cream for a while.

Enchilada81 · 13/04/2010 08:00

Can I come back?

You may remember I decided to go off low carb about 3 weeks ago? well in that 3 weeks I have put on 5lbs so yes! I admit I was wrong and I'm back with my tail between my legs

Started low carb again yesterday and weighed in at 11st 5lbs. Got on the scales this morning and I'm 11st 2lbs. The weight just drops off so quickly, doesn't it!?

It gave me the boost I need anyway. I'm allowing myself 50g of carbs a day. I think 20 is bordering on malnutrition so I'll see how I get by with 50. (Although to be honest, I think I only managed about 25g yesterday anyway!)
