I am joining SW next week and I have a lot of weight to lose (I mean over 7 stone)
Is there any one else with a long way to go who fancies a bit of moral support ??

I have tried loads of diets over the years and just feel so daunted that I have such a lot to lose. I know that any diet and exercise will work but I need to stick to it long term

I am not looking for a SW thread just a long long way to go one....

lol walk is not by choice downside living so far from dc school and not driving despite been meaning to since 17 im 36 now

Am thinkinh on return journey maybe should speed it up but then will want come home eat lol

bratnav · 04/01/2010 19:48

Can I join in too? I have 4 stone to lose, my friends are getting married in October, so that is my absolute target, but sooner would be better.

I have decided that making sure I walk the DDs to school and back everyday and taking the dogs for a good long walk is a good starting point for exercise, and not eating anything (except possibly fruit) after the DCs are in bed for diet, and no unhealthy snacks at all. I'm still BFing DS (4 mo) so not sure how much of a 'diet' I can do before he is at least partially on solids.

Good luck and determination to us all

TotalChaos · 04/01/2010 19:52

Phoenix - I think there is no point in weighing more than once a week.

exercise - atm I just can't be arsed, once the weather improves I shall force myself into brisk walking. and try and motivate myself back onto WII fit. difficulty is that I am physically active in my work, but not enough to be fatburning exercise (lots of walking and hefting files in and out of draws and going up stepladders leafing through hundreds of files).

bigbellylady · 04/01/2010 20:30

well I have joined SW tonight and I have 10 1/2 stone to lose (gulp)

Seems like an awful lot to me and just hope I can get there one day.

I am doing SW with a friend who only has 4 stone to lose but we are both pretty motivated so I think we will help each other.

I am off to bed now as I have
been sat in a freezing church hall for 2 hours.

I will have a good day tomorrow..........

I'd like to join in, if its not too late.

I don't even know what I weigh or how much I have to lose, but it is a lot (I wear size 26/28).

Often I think its just not worth it, it'll never happen. But I'm just coming out of a quite bad period of depression adn am feeling more positive about the start of the new year ... so maybe this is the time!!

I'd love to buy clothes where the first number was a '1' instead of a '2'. Not to have to shop in Evans!

My fist goals are

  1. Much more walking
  2. Less cheese.
GreensElves · 04/01/2010 21:10

hi all

Phoenix - I am actually not going to weigh myself at all until I know I am at a non-frightening weight, because if I have to see my current weight in actual figures I will have to hack off my head with a breadknife - I KNOW I'm obese

but that is pure cowardice

I have been batch cooking for freezer tonight - have made root veg and leek soup, lentil and pumpkin soup, healthy baked beans and little pieces of garlic bread so the kids can have those while we are eating the healthy bits

and dh has been planting vegetables in propagating trays so we will have something to work on and look forward to

I really hope I don't fall off the wagon this time, I really need to feel better about myself

and a huge WELL DONE to Orm and LisaD and PuddingPenguin and Cirrhosis and everyone else who has done well so far!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 04/01/2010 21:46

hi everyone! Well done to you BBL for getting to SW and starting off, it's got to be one of the hardest bits. Hi brat and weegie

Greens, your batch cooking and your DH's veg propogating make me feel very envious. That is such a good idea re having stuff to look forward to and there is nothing that makes you want to eat lots of veg so much as when you can go and pick them from the garden! I must talk to my Dh about this and see if we can't find a spot for a little veg patch. DS would love that, too......

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/01/2010 22:25

Well done everyone

I have done well today - cereal for breakfast, a sandwich and fruit for lunch and then chicken with pasta and veg for dinner. No snacking. I have just had an Options hot choc and will be off to bed soon.

Went for a walk, only about a mile but better than nothing!

matumble · 05/01/2010 12:32

Hi all

well i took my hit at the scales this morning. 6lb on! but it was a lovely christmas and today i am off and going again.

have 3 portions of soup in the freezer another 4 on the hob ready to be dealt with. going to cook up a couple of shepherds pies in a bit as thats my danger area, when im tired and stressed and just dont want to cook i put rubbish on instead so having that in the freezer has to help

Phoenix4725 · 05/01/2010 14:56

i had a very lazy day here been in bed/bathroom seems i caught a bug of the dc noty quite way planned on loosing weight

yes thats one my danger points to think sod it cheese and bread but i dont eat just a little bit of it .Think i might need to batch cook some to.

Another of my weak times is when im stressed which is going to be most of this month lol so not good time to diet

matumble · 05/01/2010 15:24

im a bit of a comfort eater when stressed too, started with broken biscuits during my gcse's and has never stopped

doing some sugar free jelly to help with that comfort/boredom eating thing, if i really must then at least that wont do too much damage.

hope you feel better soon

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/01/2010 16:17

I'm going to fatclub tonight.

I plan to do more walking and cycling everywhere but I've knackered my back so it will have to wait until it's better.

I spent £30 in Waitrose this afternoon on quorn sausages, cottage cheese and muller lights.

Luvvies · 05/01/2010 16:58

Phoenix - I know that everyone says this is really wrong for them, but I actually like to weigh twice a day - before bed and first thing in the morning (after going to the loo!).

I like to see those small incremental changes, or at least no increase. I usually weigh about 2lb more in the evening than the next morning - love going to bed thinking about the weight I will "temporarily" lose overnight.

So, I know this isn't how you're supposed to do it, but it works for me.

Two days in I'm doing OK, eating much more healthily than usual, although we are now snowed in and the forecast suggests it won't thaw all week, so if I need to go out for food it is a half hour walk up and down some hills. Which I suppose will be good for me!

Keep going everyone and I hope everyone can get to their clubs tonight for those in bad weather.

SpikySauce · 05/01/2010 17:45

Eccentrica - Fat Club? Do you mean WW or similiar?

I would love to join a support for emotional eating, like Oveaters Anonomyous but without the abstinence or the god bothering.

LisaD1 · 05/01/2010 17:54

Hi everyone,

Good to see everyone is doing well so far.

I went to the gym last night, did a good hour, worked really hard. Came home and had a lovely ww hot chocolate and fell into bed, I'm normally up until late but was spark out by 10.30pm!

Had another good day today, had porridge for breakfast and made a chicken casserole for me and the little ones for lunch (my 2 year old and a minded 1 year old), waiting for DH to come home and think we're having Pasta for dinner.

Am finding the "no bread" quite hard but so far so good!

How's everyone elses day gone?

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/01/2010 18:07

Fat Club = Slimming World.

Not loking forward to it. keep getting visions of Marjory ranting about dust.

I have tried so very many times on my own and failed so i know this is the way to go.

wish me luck.

bigbellylady · 05/01/2010 18:17

hope it goes ok for you Eccentrica. I too have joined SW probably about 10 times over the years.

I am going with a friend this time and hoping that and this thread will help. Check in here every day to keep you on the straight and narrow. I am planning to do that although it may bore you all rigid...

Well - day 1 for me was a very good day. I have been the model of healthy eating. I almost came a cropper when I got in from work to a shouty dh, tired children and a plate of sausage rolls just out of the oven dh had cooked.

I did resist and now feel all smugly like I can do this.

I just hope day 2, 11, 100, 111 etc go so well.

I am hoping for a day at home tomorrow due to snow, we have not had a single flake all winter and desperate for some of the action.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/01/2010 18:36

Well done to everyone who has been good!

Eccentrica good luck

Luvvies I find frequent weighing helps me to stay motivated too.

BBL - yay for resisting the sausage rolls, you deserve to feel some smugness for that

I've been okay-ish today. Porridge and banana for breakfast, fish and potatoes for dinner. Lunch was at a friend's house so I definitely ate more than I should have, and then succumbed to a lemon cupcake - gah.

I know it isn't an excuse, but I'm so tired today. DS has started waking in the night and wanting to come in bed with us, and he howls when we try to put him back in bed. I have probably had about 12 hours sleep in the last 3 nights together - it is NOT condusive to eating less!

Luvvies · 05/01/2010 20:05

Just had a huuuuuuuuge plate of very lightly stir fried veg with some chicken bits. Feel very full which is good. Later on I will have a greek yoghurt for pud (with splenda sweetner) Do you think splenda with a best before of Sept 06 is OK? (That tells you how long it's been since I last tried this lark)

Fingers crossed for snow for you tomorrow BBL.

weegiemum · 06/01/2010 01:48

Well I had cereal for breakfast (Rice Krispies yum!) with black coffee, salad for lunch, stir fried veggies and a little rice for tea, and went for a walk with a friend for 4 miles today in the snow (was lovely).

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 06/01/2010 11:03

I watched Paul McKenna - I can make you Slim, last night, and am going to give that a go. Mind you, I haven't eaten any breakfast yet, and I know that is a big dieting no-no. [sad failure emoticon]

TotalChaos · 06/01/2010 11:09

lost 31b since boxing day, yay!

SpikySauce · 06/01/2010 11:36

Well done, TC!

I had my induction at my new gym yesterday - a year's membership was one of my Christmas presents from DH (I asked for it, he didn't just surprise me with it!)

I'm booked in for a class today.

I also started my new eating plan yesterday - no sugary things, no snacks except fruit or oat bars before the gym. I did well till about 10:30pm. DH went to bed and I watched a bit of television ... and had a Crunchie bar. Why do I self sabotage, why? It's a sensible plan, basically following the No S Diet, and I'm allowed sweets and snacks at the weekend. So why did I shoot myself in the foot at the last minute? I wasn't even hungry, but of course it usually isn't about hunger.

TotalChaos · 06/01/2010 12:54

thanks! well as long as you stick to the one, one crunchie bar isn't the end of the world, and I think eating one and thinking - hey, actually I didn't need it will hopefully help nip the habit in the bud. If it's a habit thing - nice snack before bedtime, make the boringer but healthier things more availabe, or allow yourself a small amount of say alcohol instead as your treat?

Phoenix4725 · 06/01/2010 13:08

wow well done totalchaos thats some going
