I am joining SW next week and I have a lot of weight to lose (I mean over 7 stone)
Is there any one else with a long way to go who fancies a bit of moral support ??

I have tried loads of diets over the years and just feel so daunted that I have such a lot to lose. I know that any diet and exercise will work but I need to stick to it long term

I am not looking for a SW thread just a long long way to go one....

First WI today .I started on the 27th Dec so only 5 days but I wanted Friday to be my WI day.4.7lbs off so an encouraging start here !

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 09:02

ooh good stuff madamearcati! What a good way to start the year
I know what you mean about WW - that's what I can't sustain, that feeling of having to be counting stuff all your life, however we have a family friend (in her 80's!) who has been doing this for years and it suits her. It's not for everyone though.
With slimming world, one of the girls at work has told me that there's now an extra-easy plan where you don't have to worry about red and green days - might be worth checking out?

matumble · 01/01/2010 09:30

yes with extra easy you can eat any free foods from red or green but you cut back on your healthy extras to compensate. i think theres also something new coming this month from hints from my leader

matumble · 01/01/2010 09:33

well done madame.

I'm in for a gain on Tuesday but hoping to minimise it in the meantime

Scotia · 01/01/2010 09:45

Wow, well done madame! Such willpower at Christmas

Now I need to decide what plan to follow - will see what's available near me and aim to join in the next week

InThisSequinBraYesYouOlaJordan · 01/01/2010 09:56

Please can I join?

I could do with being five stone lighter, although I'm assured I carry it well . I've not eaten very well over Christmas although I have been to the gym seven times since 21st December - and I was swimming three times a week for a month before that.

So, i'm hoping to eat well (a la Cirrosis By The Sea - great name btw!) and exercise four times a week. I'm doing 10 mins on the x-trainer (had to build up to that, it's hard work!), 5 rowing and then specific weights allocated by the trainer - I asked for quick results on my tummy . Then I'm swimming for 15-20 mins.

I've had to factor this in to my life as I work three days and have DSs 2 and 8, so the plan is:

Monday night: once DH comes in from circuit training - gym and swim
Wednesday: while DS1 is at a sporting activity at the gym - gym only
Friday evening- gym and swim
Sunday - swim only

Also I'm going to take DS1 on a Saturday afternoon - he can swim, so we can swim together although it will be more about him than me IYSWIM.

I'm having a 2 week alcohol hiatus as have had loads over the festive period.

I'm forty in less than two years and I want to be fabulous, so this is the beginning of the Master Plan!

Looking forward to lots of support and supporting

InThisSequinBraYesYouOlaJordan · 01/01/2010 09:57

Wow madame, that's nearly a lb a day, well done!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 10:31

InThisSequin, talking of good names My name is the name of Errol Flynn's holiday home

You have inspired me with all that exercise you're doing. That is my next thing, to get a plan. At the moment I'm using the Wii fit at home which has been helpful, and going for walks by the sea which is lovely, but I want to increase. Must get more into the swimming. Good plan.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 10:32

oh and I have missed the 'fabulous and forty' deadline by two years

Always late, that's me

matumble · 01/01/2010 10:41

Cirrhosis if you don't have it the wii fit plus add on is brilliant, I got it for Christmas on boxing day I got it to give me a half hour set of workouts and was still feeling it two days later! the new games are harder too. I'm going to aim for at least 30 minutes everyday on it from today onwards.

PuddingPenguin · 01/01/2010 11:03

Another lurker - don't want to start until Monday......but will see you bright and early then. Want to lose 6 stone. Arrrgh, when did it get that much!!!!!???? Ok, lets say 100 pounds, that sounds less scary to me.

Matumble - I've got the original wii fit coming on 22 Jan (just moved to NZ and am awaiting delivery of our shipped stuff). I liked it but found it irriatating to keep having to go in and select each exercise, does the new one allow you to set up a group of exercises (eg: yoga poses) and flow from one to another?

TotalChaos · 01/01/2010 11:18

count me in, just under 5stone to lose. blood pressure gone borderline, and cholesterol high enough to need statins. That's given me the motivation to get cracking. I've got various books/info about healthy eating for heart/bp and ww cookbooks - not following any particular plan but picking up good ideas. My intention is to eat 3 meals a day and try and restrict snacks to fruit and rice cakes, and to minimise processed food.

matumble · 01/01/2010 11:57

Yes Penguin it does, you can arrange the exercises yourself or tell it to give you anything from a 5 to a 60 minute routine. The going in and out really put me off too.

It also has ready made routines that involve the games mixed in with the muscle and yoga workouts which you can mix and match.

Also for anyone counting calories it tells you how many you have burnt on each exercise and in total, you can have a calorie goal and it uses your weight to work out how many you are burning so its fairly accurate i think.

I had melon, apples and oranges for breakfast and have onion soup on the go though it wont be ready for this lunch time will have jacket potato, beans and cheese for lunch instead i think. then pie and chips for tea, not exactly slimming but a small portion is fine for syns and its getting it used up.on my second pint of water, just need to keep at it so will be checking in with you all regularly i think, unless anyone minds in which case tell me to shut up, I can take a hint!

Phoenix4725 · 01/01/2010 15:05

can i join i got lo0ads to do .am of to Florida in 12 months do not want aseatbelt extension or worry that saftey bars wont close

Phoenix4725 · 01/01/2010 15:07

ok is it worth me getting the wIi fit?

QOD · 01/01/2010 15:13

fat fatter fattest
7 stone to lose here, waiting and going thru the process of gatric band referral as I have the willpower of a ........... ummm what has no willpower?

Luvvies · 01/01/2010 15:20

Hi I would like to join too. I need to lose several stones but not sure I want to give myself such a challenging goal. So I know I just need to start and aim for a stone at a time.
The battery in the scales needs changing, so I've not weighed myself for ages and my jeans etc are a bit tighter than they have been in the past.
I've been a MN lurker for a while, hoping this is something which will propel me into joining in properly.
Starting on Monday. Good luck everyone.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 16:31

hi everyone!
Phoenix I would say yes to the Wii fit - I find that it's really good fun and a) you want to do it as it's fun and b) you don't notice so much that you are exercising!

Have just come back from a freezing bracing walk by the sea, and have a pork joint in the slow cooker for after Dr Who

One thing I am doing which I find is working is to find healthy food that is still really blummin flavourful and gorgeous - I want to enjoy my food, life is short and food is such a pleasure

TotalChaos · 01/01/2010 19:23

phoenix - I wouldn't get the Wii just for the Wii Fit - it is fun, but because you have to select each exercise individually, you have to be very organised to do a full routine iyswim. If you've already got the basic equipment then no harm giving it a whirl though.

MrsKitty · 01/01/2010 19:37

I've got 6 stone to lose...will be starting WW on monday. The worst part of it all is i've lost the 6 stone before and been my 'ideal' weight, but it lasted 2 years then I piled it all back on . My initial aim is 4 stone which should put me in a size 14-16 and then I'll decide if I want to go the rest of the way...

GreensElves · 01/01/2010 19:42

just checking in to stiffen my resolve

dh and I are going to get rid of all the left-over Christmas gorgeousness crap tonight and purge the house of all alcohol

our plan is to eat "pottage" like mediaeval folk - based around our veg box and lentils and spices and tomatoes etc

we are also determined to get back to growing our own veg, having been bloody lazy this past year

no more takeaways, no more spur-of-the-moment pasties/pre-bought sarnies - no cook, no eat

veggie soups and stews and slop of various kinds works well for family eating - the kids can have bread/butter/cheese to spruce theirs up and we can just eat the slop

am feeling vaguely excited about it actually, I am SICK of being a shapeless blob and being tired all the time and not being able to exercise

GreensElves · 01/01/2010 19:44

MrsKitty, I am in exactly the same boat as you

I found a photo of me the other day holding a 2yo ds2 (he's 5 now)

I was about a size 12 now and looked about 14 years younger than the amorphous pasty old boiler staring back at me in the mirror now

jofeb04 · 01/01/2010 19:46

Can I join in please?

Am a size 22 (have never addmitted that to anyone before), and would love to get to a size 16 for this time next year.

Not to sure whether to go to SW or WW (or just start eating healty tbh). Going to start swimming three times a week as I love it.

I just enjoy food

madamearcati · 01/01/2010 19:49

Has anybody else felt that people treat you differently when you are fat ? Not real friends and family of course ,but other people?

TotalChaos · 01/01/2010 19:50

greeny - I'll be going down the own cooking/lentil and bean pottage route too (DH is veggie). Have to do my own food and even biscuits as much as possible, as can't trust shop bought not to have added salt/sugar/trans fats in.
