I am joining SW next week and I have a lot of weight to lose (I mean over 7 stone)
Is there any one else with a long way to go who fancies a bit of moral support ??

I have tried loads of diets over the years and just feel so daunted that I have such a lot to lose. I know that any diet and exercise will work but I need to stick to it long term

I am not looking for a SW thread just a long long way to go one....

I don't trust myself either - I have to start really severe, with rice cakes and veggies and lots of water - if I relax the rules a bit it's all over

YES people treat you differently. I went to a family gathering up north after losing all the weight before, and everyone treated me like royalty

same people virtually ignored me when I went up last year

madamearcati · 01/01/2010 20:03

Pottage sounds nice and cheap too ! (I am on a financial 'diet' too!)

TotalChaos · 01/01/2010 20:19

lol greeny - the not being able to trust myself is a given, hence in this situation.

I think very few people treat me differently to when I was slimmer (well apart from the odd person who appears to have slagged me off about the weight gain behind my back ), I got offered my new job this year whilst fat, I was very apprehensive about doing job interviews at this weight.

Luvvies · 01/01/2010 20:39

Not sure about people treating me differently - been this way for years. But I plan to treat myself differently when I lose some of this.
I am just planning on a healthy eating regime and a bit of walking. Groups don't appeal to me - well, RL ones obviously.
My scales are fixed now so I have my starting point.
Am sort of starting a bit tomorrow and then really going for it on Monday.

ellenjames · 01/01/2010 20:48

can i join? I need to lose bout 6 stone am a size 20 and am beginning to hate it now! Have just got a lab pup so plenty of walking for me but i sooo love to eat crap in fact i binge! Am going to join local slimmimg world on mon as need to do something!

SpikySauce · 01/01/2010 22:01

I'm in too, please.
Have 5 stone to lose.
Eek.

I've joined another weight loss thread, but the great thing about this one is that we all have at least 4 stones to use.

I have been thinking about other people treating you differently, or just mentioning your weight. I don't want it to be a quality people associate with me. I don't want my appearance noticed, unless people are thinking how gorgeous I am

My plan is to give up snacks and sweet things, except at the weekend. It's the NoS Plan. Not sure how I'll go just with three meals a day though, as I tend to eat dinner late. So I'm going to allow myself fruit as snacks.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 01/01/2010 22:06

hello everyone

MrsKitty · 01/01/2010 22:15

Madame, GreenElves...Having spent all of my teens and most of my 20's wearing between anything between an 18 to a 24, then being a 12-14 for 2 years before hiking back up to a 22 now I can categorically say that alot of people most definitely treat you differently when you're fat. And it really pisses me off!

Phoenix4725 · 02/01/2010 06:56

Total chaos

with 2 teenage ds not much in way of game computers we don`t have. Will give it a try finding excersise that i enjoy and can fit in around dc is my biggest problem

Well survied day 1 but ekkkkk was hard please tell me it gets easier 10pm last night was craving cheese and french bread with lots of butter

I am finding hardest that 3 of my dc are on a high fat diet and have to add butter/cream/cheese to everything and keep biscuits/cake etc in and it keeps screaming eat me every time walk past cupboard any tatics please

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/01/2010 08:02

wow phoenix that sounds hard - maybe just grab a piece of fruit every time you have to be giving them the high fat stuff!

My strategy for today is just ensuring that I have my 5 a day - we've stuck a chart up on the fridge to fill in.

PuddingPenguin · 02/01/2010 09:18

Thank you for the wii fit info.

After posting last night that I would start on Monday I woke up today feeling really motivated (must have been the semi public declaration of intent, good old MN). Even though we still have a cupboard full of Xmas crap, I didn't want to wait any longer to get slim. Amazed myself.

Thought I should go buy some scales, which I did. Stepping onto them nearly had me running into the chocolate embrace of the Xmas goodies. Over half a stone more than I thought. I had to repeatedly tell myself that I would never be this heavy again. Still a bit gutted TBH, but I have no one to blame but myself.

My main dieting downfall is accidential eating, eg: grabbing a mouthful of something DH is eating, snacking whilst preparing food and worst of all eating DS's leftovers. I need to learn to throw food out rather than throwing it down my throat. Does anyone else have this problem?

But day one over (it's 10pm here in NZ) and it went well.

kurves · 02/01/2010 10:12

yes I have and it blows your self esteem the hair dressers that i used to go to used to say that my thighs were big and i need to get the fat sucked out of them and that i am not all that and laugh at me .But that is what makes me so motivated then she would say i remember when you wre slimmer and how good i looked so my plan is when i do reach my goal weight is to go and pay her a visit. oh she her self is over weight. I had lipo on my legs cause i could not take it any more. I am giving my self a total body and mind over hall and i am going to enjoy my self while doing it.

Phoenix4725 · 02/01/2010 12:20

mines is by time cooked dinner for the kids , done ds physio etc tided up i cant be botherd to cook and end up snacking on food i should i not and yes i tend to pick at dc leftovers which is not good as theres always full of fat so going to try squirting washing up liquid on them or scrape straight away

think going to be eating lot of salad and jacket spuds lazy persons diet is what i need

kurves · 02/01/2010 14:36

Phoenix4725
you are so funny that is what i need. a lazy persons diet.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/01/2010 16:00

oo well done Pudding!

I agree, lazy person's diet needed here too. I am finding that preparation is everything. If I have food ready for when I come in, then I will eat that and not snack or eat crap because I am so starving and can't wait half an hour to cook etc.

I use my slow cooker LOADS - soups, stews, and yesterday I found that cooking a joint of meat in it is absolutely gorgeous. If I'm cooking baked potatoes, I always cook about 6 at a time so we have a couple of days where we just need to warm them up for 10 mins instead of cooking them from scratch.

And take a healthy lunch to work, made the night before so you just have to pick it up in the am.

Preparation is all. When I'm not thinking ahead, that's when I fall down!

Luvvies · 02/01/2010 18:01

Oh nooooooooooo. My 14yo DS has just come home from a friend's house with the Christmas present he bought before Christmas and then left at the friend's house. It's a box of Milk Tray!!!!!!!!! Rubbish timing but I think its the first Christmas present he has ever bought completely independently, without prompting and with his own money, so I will have to enjoy them. THEN I will start doing this properly.

Not telling DC I'm dieting as they will tell my mum and I have big issues with her around food as she's a skinny minny and can't understand why I'm not.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/01/2010 18:23

enjoy them Luvvies....we will still be here on Monday (and all re-doubling our efforts as well, I would think!)

OrmIrian · 02/01/2010 18:26

Yes. Me!

I have got into atrocious habits over the last few months and much much worse during christmas. All of my clothes are tight.

I will be low-carbing and carrying on with my running (but trying to be more regular with it). A couple of months will be enough to get some flab off and get back to good habits.

Phoenix4725 · 03/01/2010 06:37

anyone else finding themselves going to bed early to stop themselves pigging out .I was in bed by 8.30

Nefertari · 03/01/2010 09:57

I want to lose the 6 stone I put on after having the kids. In fact, I am shifting the family over to the Wartime diet, as it's been proved we were healthier then than today.

I have a book, and the idea is meals based on lots of veg to eke out the limited meat rations then available.

I have also previously found that planning ahead can make things easier and also cheaper with less waste.

I'm also exercising; walking briskly and skipping to start with, and plan to get a bike later on when I've lost a bit.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 03/01/2010 11:30

cor phoenix I wouldn't let it affect me to that degree, no. If I need to eat I will eat fruit or a bowl of cereal. I would give up if I had to go to bed at 8pm hungry i have done that in the past though. But trouble is, I can't live that way long term. And long term is what it needs to shift my 4 stone!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 03/01/2010 11:31

oh and hello Nefertari Sounds a great idea re the wartime diet!

AliBellandthe40jingles · 03/01/2010 11:51

Cirrhosis - that is exactly it for me, long term. DH is on board with me and we are going to use the 'No-S' rules to follow. We think we can follow them forever as nothing is forbidden.
We're putting our focus on fitting in exercise rather than worrying about counting calories, points or anything else.

Really really determined to make this work.

kurves · 03/01/2010 11:52

Last night was so rough for me i was so hungry i find that it is at night time that i get really hungry did not go to bed till really late what i don is look in the mirror when i see how i look then it keeps me motivated.i have never been so fat in my life and it is doing my head in. Feeling so low today. I tried to put on a size 16 pair of jeans did not fit but it did a month ago well it can only get better as i will not be giving up easily.

mrslurkalot · 03/01/2010 12:43

Me please, I have resolved to start tomorrow. I think about how fat I am all the time, weigh myself everyday and am so sick of this cycle of self loathing. I feel like I need to take control. 6 stone to lose.
