Anyone want to join me as I go from 'fatty' to 'fabulous'?

Well, I have decided that from Monday I am

  1. Going to lose weight and stop making excuses and put it off anymore

2)Make exercise a regular part of my life, which will mean shaking the months of dust off my clothes hanger exercise bike.

  1. Start to feel good about myself again, and imagine myself in lots of lovely clothes for the Spring. This will involve looking at myself in a mirror and thinking good thoughts

I am 5ft 3 and tipping the scales at a disgusting 12 stone 7lbs. Ideally I want to get to 9 stone 7 lbs so 3 stone to lose. Eeeek! Anyone fancy joining me?

I know you can't do it every night but painting my nails keeps me occupied for most of the evening (probably because I am crap at it though). Also putting pics in album or, if I do have to snack, grapes or a portion of those oaty pillow-shaped cereal (from Quavers I think).

I am a terrible constant picker and my danger time is between after school run and dc's bedtime. Somebody needs to lock me out of the kitchen.

But I really really hate the black trousers I had to wear today and need to get back into my other size 14 ones. I am trying to use this as this week's motivation (although it will take me a whole lot longer to get into them but hey ho...)

duckyfuzz · 21/10/2009 17:52

I am a dreadful picker too, I have seeds (calorific but good for you and it takes ages to eat lots) I also find that soup is a good option if I'm feeling cold and therefore extra likely to nibble, and not having wine on a school night helps too (but so hard!)

I was at a meeting todya with a buffet lunch, all pastry and bread yum

sweetboysmum · 21/10/2009 18:05

Oh I am awful at buffets, I just think the food is there, it's yummy and would be ashame to go to waste. I've had a good day again today so far although after i put DS to bed it is the danger time. i love the idea of the stuffed apple and sultanas, could add some cinamon too yum.

I have a friend who buys Alpen bars. They are only around 60cals and taste nice. She carries a couple around with her all the time and if she gets a craving she'll reach for one of those instead of chocolate.

For dinner I'm having salmon with lemon and dill dresssing and a big portion of mashed potatoes, turnip and carrot and I'll pile on the broccoli. I know i'm on the slimfast twice a day (5 days a week) and realise it's not very healthy so I'm aiming for healthy snacks and a balanced meal for every dinner or lunch.

mamasunshine · 21/10/2009 19:05

I'm another one who finds the evenings ridiculously hard to get through...pregnancy and breastfeeding has given me an extra sweet tooth! Last 2 days have been good though...thinking going to get to bed early tonight to keep me away from the kitchen! Had another good walk today, just need to keep it up. You all sound like you're doing brilliantly Keep it up

robino · 22/10/2009 10:22

hi all. I'm doing a cracking job at not eating but unfortunately that's because i was dreadfully ill yesterday and then got admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis. Have eaten one slice of toast in 40 hours! Am confusing the docs as it would appear it's not appendicitis - having a scan later and if that doesn't explain stuff will be having exploratory op. 'tis an extreme way to try to lose weight

defyinggravity · 22/10/2009 11:17

Blimey Robino poor you. Hope they sort out what the problem is soon for you. Good to see you looking on the bright side though.

OP posts:
frakula · 22/10/2009 11:52

Golly, robino, hope you're feeling better now.

I need someone to motivate me into having breakfast! I know it would help my mid-afternoon feeling-the-need-to-snack but I still don't manage to do it.

And I've been snacking because I'm stressed (long story, wedding related) and that's not doing me any good. Someone snap me out of it please!

sweetboysmum · 22/10/2009 19:43

robino, poor you, hope they get to the bottom of your myserious illness and you're on the mend soon. Frakula, arranging weddings can be stressful but I hope you feel calmer soon. You asked someone to snap you out of it - remember the vows are the important and touching part of a wedding and everything else is an extra! I loved arranging my wedding but do remember getting stressed sometimes, it's normal.

Been good so far today apart from a couple of rich teas, but they're not exactly sinful are they? Feeling hungry just now because i had a large lunch and so only and slimfast for dinner. Just going to come soup to fill me up.

Crazycatlady · 22/10/2009 21:21

Oh robino hope you're ok! Sounds rotten...

Am feeling thinner already despite lack of exercise due to nasty cough and sore throat. But I would murder some chocolate right now and DH has gone out and forgotten to leave my choc ration out. I have literally searched the house high and low for the chocolate and I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE . He's left his phone at home too grrr. Probably a good thing...

robino · 23/10/2009 07:40

thought i'd update you on my extreme diet . That solitary piece of toast is still all i've had to eat since tues 5pm. And the last time i had a drink was at 11am yest before i had scan and i've been made to fast since then because likely to have laperoscopy today. If i haven't lost weight after this i'll give up

robino · 23/10/2009 07:43

should probably add that it's not a weightloss system or any vaguely sane person would recommend!

sweetboysmum · 23/10/2009 08:59

Robino you must be starving, what a shame for you.

i weighed in at 12st 13 1/2 lbs this morning, 2 1/4 lbs lost since last Friday which was my goal. So in total i've lost 1 stone 1/4 lbs since mid August. Very pleaased and someone noticed I'd lost weight yesterday!

I know your weight fluctuates a lot and you should not weigh yourself more than once a week but after my excessive w/end last week I did weigh myself on Monday and the scales read 13st 4lbs. If this was true I had put on a lot after the w/end! This w/end i have another hotel stay in glasgow with DH and friends and also have inlaws visiting. So lunch I'll be having a lunch, dinner and breakfast out. Will try very hard to stick to diet so i don't undo my hard work. It's not going to be easy though.

Hope you are getting on well and there is some weigh loss for you.

defyinggravity · 23/10/2009 10:45

Hello all. Checkng in with weight loss and am pleased to report I've lost 3lbs! Still fatty and far from fabulous but weigh 12 4 now.

OP posts:
TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 23/10/2009 11:22

great news on the weight loss, ladies!

But can't we be fat AND fabulous?

robino · 23/10/2009 12:07

well done on weight loss - am impressed! I want scales! Looks like op is going to be 4ish this aft so still being starved. Lord knows when i'll feel like eating when coming round from general anesthetic.

moonshine · 23/10/2009 12:20

Good luck robinho - hope it all goes well (think of the (low-fat!)feast you can indulge in afterwards.)

Wow sweetboysmum, that is a great loss - are you on something like WW or just healthier eating?

I have lost 2lbs this week and am clinging on in the 'overweight' category as opposed to the 'obese'one.

And God, if I didn't think I could sometimes be fat and a little bit fabulous, life would be very depressing - was no-one impressed with my being propositioned by a handsome lad 12 years younger than me (harrumph)?

But weekend is a big danger-zone for me. I am going to have wine today and tomorrow but shall try to stick to one bottle over 2 days (not great but I have been to the gym today to try and get some calorie 'credits').

defyinggravity · 23/10/2009 13:40

Yes the weekend is my danger zone too. Oh and yes of course you can be fat and fabulous, but I'm feeling all flabby and gross at the moment so struggling with the fabulous side of things.

Just been for a walk and feel thoroughly exhausted now. Normally would have tea and reach for biscuit tin, but I'm determined that I'm not going to do that today.

Good look with the op Robino.

OP posts:
robino · 23/10/2009 14:19

moonshine - i think i missed that, i'm v impressed. I've just been kitted out in my hospital gown and some bottle green surgical stockings so won't be pulling any one this afternoon.

Crazycatlady · 23/10/2009 14:45

Robino good luck, hope it all goes ok.

Well done on the weight losses this week ladies.

I'm weighing in on Monday and hopeful of a pound or two... although I have just eaten half a piece of Victoria sponge and half a brownie from my favourite amazing food shop in Balham. YUM. I'm allowing myself one meal a week of whatever I fancy, but that was a bit overboard... salad for dinner then.

TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 23/10/2009 17:19

Good look Robino. I've had several laparoscopies myself so you have my sympathies. I certainly don't envy you the surgical stockings (hate, hate, hate)

defying gravity - aw, there is definitely something fabulous about you, even if you don't think it's your body. So what do you like? Eyes? Hair? Beautiful spirit?
I do think that part of losing weight is, ironically, learning to like yourself as you are.

Having said that, I feel awfully flabby this week myself.

robino · 23/10/2009 21:21

so how much does an appendix weigh then? Cos i've lost mine . I know, they're tiny really aren't they? Apparently was really nasty appendicitis so they whipped it out while they were in there. Am now dying of thirst but already more comfortable and have the added bonus of morphine wooziness!

defyinggravity · 23/10/2009 21:21

Thanks Lioness. Just having a down day which is not usually how I am.

Been good today anyway and kept within my 1400 cals I'm allowing myself.Felt like gorging on chocs and have had an unbelievable urge for a Snickers bar all day but have been a good girl.

Hope op went ok robino. Check in with us when you can.

defyinggravity · 23/10/2009 21:22

Whoops! Just seen your post Robino. Good to know op's all over and you've got pain relief.
