Anyone want to join me as I go from 'fatty' to 'fabulous'?

Well, I have decided that from Monday I am

  1. Going to lose weight and stop making excuses and put it off anymore

2)Make exercise a regular part of my life, which will mean shaking the months of dust off my clothes hanger exercise bike.

  1. Start to feel good about myself again, and imagine myself in lots of lovely clothes for the Spring. This will involve looking at myself in a mirror and thinking good thoughts

I am 5ft 3 and tipping the scales at a disgusting 12 stone 7lbs. Ideally I want to get to 9 stone 7 lbs so 3 stone to lose. Eeeek! Anyone fancy joining me?

Can I join too? I have dieted and then binged all year and have ended up the same as when I started. Bearing in mind, I've lost and regained about two stone!!! So I know I can do it, but really need motivation to keep it up.

Am emigrating to NZ at end of Nov and definitely want to be at least half a stone less by then and much, much fitter. Am going to be near DH's family who are all very outdoors-y and fit. Would love to be able to run and cycle regularly.

The less carbs thing sounds like a very good idea for me, although I think it is less the bread/toast than the slices(!) of butter I put on them... Am going to try the Paul McKenna shockingly simple idea of eating when hungry and stopping eating when not hungry too.

See you Monday.

defyinggravity · 16/10/2009 22:16

Penguin I have lost and gained 1 1/2 stone this year too. Annoying isn't it, but as you say, it shows we can do it.

bread has been a major factor for me, I put on about 6 lbs on holiday with fresh bread daily (and wine, ice cream, chips...)

I'd just say remember tht if you do slip up its not the end of the world, just get back on the straight and narrow when yuo can, don't do what I always used to do and think that a slip means you give up

chaostrulyreigns · 16/10/2009 22:19

my weight loss needs are too big to be out in black and white.

I like the idea of small steps greyskulls and crazy

Do you know how many times I've done the 'last blowout before the diet starts' and then just never done the diet?

Am also great at justifying why I'm delaying starting - "well I'm going out for a chinese meal on thurs so it's not worth starting till friday, oh there's no point starting a diet at the weekend, so I'll start monday" yeah, right.

My best mate says her thinking is "out to eat on thurs, I'll be supergood till then"

How can I get that PMA for myself?

duckyfuzz · 16/10/2009 22:22

chaos can you cope with thinking of everything that you don;t eat as contributing to a lost pound? have you tried soemthing like fitday.com or food focus, where you can track progress and see calories in balck and white? they have really helped me keep/get back on track

thefatladyscreams · 16/10/2009 22:23

Another porker reporting here .

Can I join please.

Would be great to have a weekly weight in to shame me into action. [She says gulping down her glass of wine and licking the ice cream off her lips... ]

MintChocAddict · 16/10/2009 22:26

Hello,

Can I join too please? As my name suggests, I love my grub!

Have always struggled with my weight and have been getting bigger again over the last year or so. Managed to lose a bit after DS was born (now 2.10) but have piled it on again recently.

Planning to join a gym ASAP. Think I am about 12st and 5ft 7in.

Need some motivation and could do with some buddies to chat with.

Had a miscarriage over the summer and just used that as an excuse to gorge myself on chocolate. TTC again now and reckon that I might have a better chance of success if I'm fit and healthy.

Good to meet you all.

MintChocAddict · 16/10/2009 22:27

Xposts TFLS!! - good to see you again.

lonelyoldmadmoodluminchat · 16/10/2009 22:28

Ladies we are getting some good rules here..

Friday to Sunday booze
P M A
low carbs
small steps (unless you're doing exercise, in which case big hefty aerobic steps)
Friday weigh in

anything else?

thefatladyscreams · 16/10/2009 22:33

TFLS waves excitedly at MintChoc - haven't spoken to you for ages, but I mention ice cream and within minutes you appear!

I've just poured myself another glass of wine in celebration of joining this thread.... but will exercise tomorrow to make up for it, honest!

I'm aiming to exercise four to five times a week and eat a low GI diet. I did this with a personal trainer a while ago (can't afford any longer sadly) and lost a stone a month. Then, completely stupidly, I put it all back on again and more

chaostrulyreigns · 16/10/2009 22:34

ducky no I haven't thought of that but I quite like the idea behind it.

Will give it a try.

Not heard of either of those - will give them a search tomorrow.

Fraid I'm sorry to post and run but DD1 has entrance exam in the morning and we need to be up early and refreshed.

Will probably be lying awake all night but am going to try to compile a list of positives for being thin.

Will update you tomorrow. thanks for your kind words and ideas.

PenguinProject · 16/10/2009 22:36

Chaos - wish I had your friends mentality too! I remember when I was little, if my Mum was going out for a meal, she would hardly eat during the day so she could enjoy it properly. That thinking is alien to me and I eat out alot!

I think this thread has attracted so many of us because the title is so great. We're not just trying to lose weight (which feels a bit depressing), we're on the road to fabulous-ness (which is inspiring and also a cool new word )

So anything we don't eat is a step closer to fabulous-ness!

chaostrulyreigns · 16/10/2009 22:37

Sorry still here but just read tfls post.

Sometimes I wonder why bother if statistically you are just likely to put it all back on.

And also what will my skin be like if I do lose the bulge?

But both these are probably just another way of talking myself out of making an effort.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 16/10/2009 22:38

right ladies, going to get a good nights sleep, may buy a pedometer tomorrow, any recommend one? it is about 4000 steps return journey to school and I have read you should try to do 10,000 a day.. so better get my wobble into gear

sleep well everyone

chaostrulyreigns · 16/10/2009 22:40

still here!

turn 40 in 15 months.

and i would rather not be fat and .....................cliche-ed.

(sorry no idea where foreign letters are on keyboard)

thefatladyscreams · 16/10/2009 22:42

Penguin - another one here who thought the title was fantastic. I like the idea that we are fabulous at whatever size we are but just want to be a little bit thinner!

I remember reading another thread a while ago (sorry forgot whose) about breaking a diet down into a couple of pounds. The basis was to forget focusing on losing xxx stone but instead set a goal of losing 2-3 pounds which is easily achievable. Then lose another 2-3 pounds etc and suddenly half a stone, a stone etc were much more attainable goalposts.

Hope the exam goes well for DD tomorrow chaos.

MintChocAddict · 16/10/2009 22:44

TFLS - I'm very tuned in when it comes to food chat. You'll not be surprised to hear that I also had ice cream tonight.
Getting it in while I can.

Am feeling hopeful about getting slim this time and am well up for a Friday weigh in. Hopefully we can all encourage one another to become lovely and slim! I'm hoping to change my name at some stage.

sweetboysmum · 16/10/2009 22:44

hi,
I'm a newbie - first time i've posted on MN so i hope it works! I would love to join. I've been on a diet for a couple of months now and been slowly losing the weight. Started at 13st 13 3/4 lbs and have lost 12 lbs. I was sitting here alone with Cava in one hand and choc in the other and was thinking that i need someone to talk to when i binge and came across this as i was thinking it! Friday weigh in with support during week is good with me. so far i've been on slimfast twice a day, with big lunch and 2 healthy snacks. Takeawys, booze etc at weekends. The only exercise i do is walk but i'll try and dust off my exercise equipment too. I know the rest of you aren't doing slimfast - can i still join?

lonelyoldmadmoodluminchat · 16/10/2009 22:45

welcome welcome sweetboysmum to MN and to this thread.

thefatladyscreams · 16/10/2009 22:45

Chaos - don't let me put you off. I felt fabulous when I lost the weight but had some personal stuff that contributed towards putting it back on. Plus if I hadn't lost it, I'd probably be even larger now

I've lost over 4 stone in the past without a single stretch mark.

thefatladyscreams · 16/10/2009 22:49

Congrats on the 12 lbs sweetboysmum. I like the idea of a Cava and chocolate diet [probably not my most constructive suggestion!]

sweetboysmum · 16/10/2009 22:50

Forgot to say that i agree with having small goals. I'm only 5 3" and when i had the courage to step on the scales and saw i was almost 14 stones i thought the weight i had to lose was overwhelming. so far my goals have been things like:

  • just try and look not pregnant - completely fed up with people asking when I'm due!
  • Get out of maternity clothes (my baby is 10 months now and i'm still in them) *I'm meeting an old friend next week and my goal is to lose a stone by the time i meet her. i have to lose 2 1/4 this week to meet that goal. i started diet when i met her last and was 13 st 13 3/4lbs.

small steps is the way to go,

defyinggravity · 17/10/2009 09:56

Morning everyone.

So great that so many have joined up already. This is going to help me so much.
Got loads of boring housework to do and a mountain of ironing but thinking positively or should I say 'fabulously', it should burn off a few cals.

OP posts:
defyinggravity · 17/10/2009 09:57

Forgot to add Well Done on weight loss so far sweetboysmum. I'm sure your friend will notice the difference.

OP posts:
sweetboysmum · 17/10/2009 10:09

thanks degyinggravity. I'm sure all that housework you have will burn off loads of cals. I'm ignoring my ironing pile. It's my DHs birthday and we're staying in a hotel tonight. Holidays to me mean eating heaps so I'm going to try and eat and drink in moderation. DH loves his food too so it'll be a challenge. The Cava i opened last night was supposed to be for tonight so I'll have to buy another
