Well, I have decided that from Monday I am

  1. Going to lose weight and stop making excuses and put it off anymore

2)Make exercise a regular part of my life, which will mean shaking the months of dust off my clothes hanger exercise bike.

  1. Start to feel good about myself again, and imagine myself in lots of lovely clothes for the Spring. This will involve looking at myself in a mirror and thinking good thoughts

I am 5ft 3 and tipping the scales at a disgusting 12 stone 7lbs. Ideally I want to get to 9 stone 7 lbs so 3 stone to lose. Eeeek! Anyone fancy joining me?

happygolucky0 · 10/01/2010 23:09

Thank you clankypanky. Well I dont really have a plan, but you made think about it alittle. I have been doing the special k thing for last 4 days wow lol its ok though I have not felt as hungry as usual. I think I just let everything slip while quitting smoking was eating big bars of chocolate at the begining as I was trying to replace having a fag. But I am ready to change all that now and get focused. I think I just need to think about what I am eating alot more. Watching that diet programme last week, could not believe what they were saying about which foods are high in calories. So I need to get educated in that area abit me thinks.

robino · 11/01/2010 07:31

I have a plan for you ladies. Don't be persuaded to have a takeaway on Friday just because. Don't turn up at your dad and non-domesticated stepmum's to find that she is so proud of having baked some cakes for the kids that you feel obliged to try one. Don't then leave kids at your dad's overnight so that you can have your first night away in 2 years with a big group of boozy friends you only see twice a year who keep topping up your glass so you consume your own body weight in wine and get completely bladdered. Don't then spend Sunday feeding your face on the worst foods possible to recover. Oh, and don't then realise it's DD's birthday today and you're likely to eat cake and have your annual champagne to celebrate another year of parenthood

3 plus points - I definitely reached my target of 3 pints of water a day on Saturday night/ Sunday morning AND it had the added bonus that the truly horrible hangover I deserved didn't materialise, it was only a minor one. I had a fabulous weekend. And my little baby who had a bit of a traumatic birth and didn't breathe unaided for thirteen minutes is a beautiful bolshy little 3 year old

clankypanky · 11/01/2010 11:36

Ha ha robino, glad you enjoyed yourself, sounds like my saturday/sunday! Back to it now...come on, lets see if we can go monday to friday without pigging out now!

mummymels · 12/01/2010 18:10

Clankypanky ? forgive me for forgetting but which diet are you doing again? I have to say I have tried other diets before but this is the first one that has really worked for me and I never in a million years would have thought I would have lost so much so quickly. I feel great. I must admit that the first few days I did feel hungry but once I got used to it I honestly don?t feel hungry at all and I was the worlds worst chocoholic before. It really does work. It may suddenly come off again in the next few days but sounds like you have done a good shop to help.

Robino ? Go Lower is low carb and they send you pre packed meals in the post. Once you have been on it for a while you can make your own recipes but I am not at that stage yet so don?t know much about it but I am pretty sure they have a maintenance programme too. I must admit I am not exercising and I know I really should. Sore point! Did you get on the wii? That sounds a brilliant weekend!

Defyinggravity ? You are not stupid. It happens to all of us. No harm in starting again now and having a new start.

Welcome happygolucky0 and good luck.

happygolucky0 · 12/01/2010 20:55

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr had the day from hell!! yuk but hey its nearly over. But Have seen what I do now..... when I get stressed or up upset I feel eating something nice is going to make it all better like before I would of smoked. Ending up eating Mcdonalds today ( at least it was only a kids happy meal)It was that all a bottle of wine or two tonight! Does anyone else do this when stressed or got any ideas how I can handle myself better ,

sweetboysmum · 13/01/2010 15:46

Hi, it's nice to see things picking up again around here and 'welcome' to the new girls who have joined.

I've not been around much for a long while because I've been a bit ashamed of my eating during the last few weeks and was scared to step on the scales. I have finally stepped on them after trying to mend my ways and I'm now 12st 5lbs. I've therefore put on 3.5lbs over the festive period. Not too bad considering what I ate and drank.

I'm full of the cold at the moment but am starting on a clean slate today with regards to the diet today. I'm back on the Slimfast. Exercise will commence next week. I'll aim to do 1km swims at least twice a week and also some walking with the baby. On a positive note my dh is also on a healthy eating kick and has lost half a stone in 10 days! Robinos weeekend is usually how mines turn out and a lot of that is due to my dh influence. I can't blame him anymore. We've made a bet that the first to lose a stne can have a Saturday alone to treat themselves. I'm going to win and a spa day is on the cards!

I'll weigh in on Fridays every week. Good luck this week everyone.

defyinggravity · 13/01/2010 15:56

The Hannah Waterman DVD turned up today. Haven't had much time to do anything but have a quick watch of it. It looks hard work but do-able and also gives you a diet plan to follow as well, so from tomorrow I'm going to be giving it a go.
Anyone heard of a new slimming aid called DEcarb? It says it blocks up to 66% of your carb consumption in a day. Carbs are my downfall really but I struggle to give them up so if this does what it says on the tin then it could be a real answer for me. I'm a bit suspicious about it though.

clankypanky · 13/01/2010 21:17

I was going to do a davina dvd tonight, had a curry for tea you see...a sort of healthy curry because I made it myself with no added oil or fat and i had a smallish portion of brown rice with it but neverthless. I spent 30 minutes trying to find the damn thing which had been discarded probably by my 2 year old for a bob the builder dvd. just when id given up after swearing a lot and pulling everything out dp found it under the rug?! At which point i ordered him down the road to buy me wine....AND chocolate. PMT...I have no logic within me when I have pmt, last night I had a hissy fit at my daughter for having a messy bookcase. Afterwards I realised that I do the same thing EVERY MONTH!!! grrrrr!! Was not doing too bad this week until then!

secretgardin · 13/01/2010 21:34

hi, mind if i join as well? i have been really good and have lost 2 stone so far by halving my portions, but all my new years resolutions have flown out of the window with my dh and dc at home because of the snow. i have been eating non stop due to boredom 1 1/2 stone to go and it would be nice to have some support!

mummymels · 13/01/2010 22:20

happygolucky - I am normally the same. If I am stressed or upset about something I reach for the snacks and chocolate. I so understand where you are coming from. Go Lower is just under £50 a week so it is quite expensive but bearing in mind that is practically all your food for the week.

sweetboysmum - what a great incentive to lose the stone first. I hope you win .

defyinggravity - I've not heard of DECarb. What sort of diet plan does Hannah give you?

clankypanky - at least you have the DVD ready now for when you want to do it next time.

secretgardin - welcome.

defyinggravity · 14/01/2010 09:52

Hannah's diet plan is sticking to 1400 cals, and lots of fish, salad and wholewheat/ wholemeal stuff. Looks quite good actually, and you have mid mrning and mid afternoon snacks ( healthy obviously!). I am so impressed with the changes in her body. She had such a flabby ( like a barrel) belly with no muscle and now she has this flat firm defined belly, toned arms and legs . And it was all done in 5 months. I really needto get some of her determination and focus.

happygolucky0 · 14/01/2010 19:25

Thanks Mummymels for the info on the diet. What is it you eat on the diet?

Hi Secretgarden, well done on the weight loss you have achieved so far. Hopefully the weather will improve soon for you and you can get back to normal.

Well done Clankypanky on cooking your own healthy curry. Maybe we should look into some stress stratgies to help us before we turn to the loaded calories option!!
Dont forget the diet show 8.00pm Thurs night wonder how they are getting on with their 100 cal portions??

mummymels · 14/01/2010 21:11

defyinggravity - Hannah's old body sounds like mine, lol! But it sounds as if it works if she changed in so little time. Good luck with it.

happygolucky - For breakfast I have a granola made out of nuts and seeds. Sometimes I just eat it on its own but sometimes I mix with a bit of Greek yoghurt and some berries.

For lunch I have one of their soups. There are a few to choose from.

For dinner, again I choose one of their meals. There are quite a few to choose from so I find I don't get bored. They are mainly meat ones and are actually really tasty. There's things like chilli beef, lamb, chicken curry etc. There's a list of allowed vegetables that you can have with it.

Then every day you can have a snack bar and every other day a chocolate treat.

clankypanky · 14/01/2010 22:23

How is everyone. Ive just watched that diet show, it was quite inspiring actually...you think they just did 2 weeks and it made a massive difference to their bodies. I think I'll think of it that way from now on...do it in 2 week chunks so it doesnt seem too impossible.
Very boring but I'll tell you anyway....today I had...1 bacon sandwich (about 25o calories), 1/2 hot cross bun, 1 apple, some grapes, (made with 1 egg) scrambled eggs with half piece of toast, 1 choc mousse, 1 satsuma, 1 piece toast with jam, chicken with small portion of fries and loads of veg and a small scoop of ice cream. Also about 4 cups of tea, 1 diet coke and about 3 pints of water.
I did: davina cardiobox (worked really hard at it) for half an hour and mtv yoga for half an hour this evening. I also pushed a buggy through slush and compacted snow....it was very hard work and was leaving me panting...I did this trip to and from school 3 times.

Knackered now, night fabulous ladies!

robino · 15/01/2010 12:51

Sweet - I have pinched your idea! Challenged OH to be the first to lose stone; he has agreed but we haven't agreed on a reward yet.

I am a 13 stone. It is the heaviest I have ever been and I am not feeling good about myself.

I have finally found my wii fitness coach so will do that this afternoon because it's still like an ice rink round here so no chance of going out running. Although doing exercise with a 3yr old and 18 month old around isn't particularly easy; better than nothing though!

And if you ever see me on here without a glass of water - shout at me. I definitely eat more when I drink less water.

Clanky - that was a very impressive amount of exercise yesterday!

sweetboysmum · 15/01/2010 15:42

Hi, I weighed myself this morning and am still 12st 5lbs I have a dinner out tomorrow night but will be really good in the day and have a heathy option and no pudding!

robino, strangely enough I also came across the Fitness Coach this morning. Have never used it - is it any good? Can you just do short bursts or, say, 20 mins?

clanky, well done you on doing lots of exercise.

robino · 15/01/2010 15:51

Well - wii fitness coach + 3 year old + 18 month old = chaos and hilarity .

Did a 30 min core strength work out and tried to remember to use all my pilates stuff in exercises where I could. Which would have been fab if it were not for the DDs! DD1 switched between standing next to me saying "I don't know this one", ordering me to do what the lady on the screen was doing "NO, like that" and running between my legs whilst DD2 ran around in circles and climbed on me while I tried to do crunches . Still, I'm half an hour (ish ) of exercise up on OH.

And the water drinking is working - I've had my three pints already and have not snacked at all and just had breakfast and a small(for me)lunch.

clankypanky · 15/01/2010 21:00

Oh bad luck sweet....at least you havent gained? Yes I did do a lot of exercise yesterday....am in agony today!!!! Have done lots of walking through the slush though today...very hard work. Well done robino for doing workout with 2 children...bet they loved it! Ive decided not to weigh myself for another week because I know if ive not lost weight I'll feel disillusioned so I'll wait so hope I definately will have.

secretgardin · 16/01/2010 00:48

hi, thanks for the welcome

i watched the diet show as well and it kind of spurred me on as the results were brilliant. i had a much better day and hopefully it has set me back into the right frame of mind again. breakfast was porridge with raisins and skimmed milk, lunch was a wholemeal salad and ham sandwich and tonight dh made a low fat sausage and lentil casserole. i had a skinny cow hot chocolate and pineapple as snacks. my weight is now 10stone 10lbs , but i want to go to boots next friday and use their scales as i'm worried that mine is a bit tempremental due to wear and tear

clanky - agree with the buggy in slush workout have you taken your measurements? as your muscletone is improving with all the exersize you have been doing, it will weigh more and this might counteract the fat that you have burnt. (showing on the scales as no or only slight weight loss for a short while) writing down your measurements weekly should show you that it is actually working.

robino · 17/01/2010 21:46

How's everyone's weekend been? We had DD1's birthday party yesterday and friends staying last night so yesterday wasn't great but I was better than I could have been! First part of the party was at a soft play and OH bought us both a slice of cake (obviously a great idea when you're trying to lose weight ) so I didn't eat mine and he ended up eating them both . So I'm now one exercise session and 2 pieces of cake up on OH in the lose a stone challenge . Probably had a bit too much to drink last night but have been good today - 3 well portioned meals and a small slice of cake. And I have just returned from an hour's swim where I swam 42 lengths! I hate swimming normally but went with a friend and enjoyed it. Can't believe I managed to keep going that long.

Good idea to not weigh yourself yet Clanky; I'm waiting to be disappointed that I won't lose weight because of exercise but I have taken my measurements like secretgardin suggested (hi by the way!)

happygolucky0 · 18/01/2010 15:45

Omg you lot are putting me to shame with your exerise!!! Well done all of you. I have measured myself today and have managed to lose 3 inches since last Monday so am quite pleased its going in the right direction. Did not expect that as had a night out on the booze Saturday...... the 3 hours of dancing must of helped!!

Yesterday I got quite organsized and have wrote out a weeks menu which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.( just got to stick to it now!!).Good luck with the week ahead everyone.

mummymels · 19/01/2010 20:14

Hi everyone

You are all doing so well with the exercise, you are really putting me to shame! I really should start doing some myself.

I feel really tired for some reason. I'm going to have my Go Lower beef chilli this evening with a peppermint tea afterwards and an early night.

Have a good evening everyone.

clankypanky · 20/01/2010 17:24

have done no exercise since then guys, apart from the usual walking, we have 3 birthdays this week, mine, my sons and my partners. Ill be glad when its over because you cant refuse cake on your birthday can you! Will get back to it next week. How is everyone else getting on? x

mummymels · 21/01/2010 00:40

clanky - enjoy all the celebrations this week and worry about the diet next week!
