Well, I have decided that from Monday I am

  1. Going to lose weight and stop making excuses and put it off anymore

2)Make exercise a regular part of my life, which will mean shaking the months of dust off my clothes hanger exercise bike.

  1. Start to feel good about myself again, and imagine myself in lots of lovely clothes for the Spring. This will involve looking at myself in a mirror and thinking good thoughts

I am 5ft 3 and tipping the scales at a disgusting 12 stone 7lbs. Ideally I want to get to 9 stone 7 lbs so 3 stone to lose. Eeeek! Anyone fancy joining me?

Weigh-in today and I have lost 2lbs of the 5lbs I put on last week . Don't think I ate anywhere near enough to put that much on, but it seems to always happen in my totm week (I am beginning to wonder if dh is intravenously feeding me lard at night .

Oneofakind - I have mixed feelings about the Cambridge/Lighter Life (basically the same ime). In 2005 I lost 8 stones on LL in less than 6 months. In fact it was far too thin but I was 'in the zone' and determined. I eventually put back on several stones. It's hard to say how much as my weight yoyos so much, but atm let's call it 4 stones. But that's still 4 stones off! However I have since been off and on it since then (until this year) and it definitely did not help except in the very short term.

I think it's good if you have loads of weight to lose as it's quick and, after a few days, you really don't feel physically hungry. But it's true it doesn't teach you how to actually lose and maintain weight (and let's face it, I'm sure we all know the theory back to front but there's no point to it unless you can actually do it.) In addition, if you ever do 'stray' whilst on it, you put on loads of weight very easily. I would say it will definitely kick-start it well if you do it for at least 2 weeks and then switch to a low-carb diet or introduce carbs very very slowly, but otherwise, no don't get sucked into it!

Hey, a pound off is better than a pound on and it's one less to worry about - small steps 'n all that.

I am going to try and not undo my good work this week and I find it so bloody hard to lose any weight. I have been for a 4 mile walk and will do some more mileage later.

Good luck with the weekend all!

defyinggravity · 06/11/2009 13:48

Well, I feel very disappointed and hate to let you all down but I lost a big fat zero this week.

I've had an absolutely hectic week and haven't been as careful as I should have been and have been making wrong food choices at times. Onwards and upwards though and I will try harder next week. Promise.

Well done those of you still sticking with it and trying so hard.

Nevermind defyinggravity - me too except I gained the 2lb I lost last week, to the exact fraction of a pound as well. WTF is that all about? Hopefully its just premenstrual bloat.

Have been exercising though, so that's got to count for something, right?

Joined WW yesterday and weighed much heavier than I thought - we kid ourselves dont we !

13stone 13 lbs - the heaviest I have ever been outside of pregancy ,posts natal etc.

So I am now counting the points ...

Darn't tell my DH how much I way - ony gives him more ammunitin to call me a 'fat cow' when he is in stroppy mood

sweetboysmum · 07/11/2009 13:39

I tried a bit of Pilates yesterday and enjoyed it. Only did about 10 mins as really just finding my way around the DVD. Went swimming afterwards and mum offered to watch ds for a couple of hours - so much for me saying I have no me time! I had planned on doing 40 lengths but got carried away and did 64 which is a mile. Felt great afterwards and split a Chinese takeaway last night as a treat. My lower back is really sorry today and I'm not sure if it was the swimming or the massag from the other day.

FaintlyAmusedEyebrows you might be on to something when you say don't give up everything. I love chocolate and on a Sunday I've been buying a big bar of dark chocolate. Every day I'll hve a square or 2 and that satisfies my chocolate cravings throughout the week.

This evening I am going out for dinner and drinks with a friend. Will try not to have a complete blow-out.

CaptainUnderpants · 07/11/2009 16:21

Sat down and spoke with DH this afternoon and told him how much his commenst about my weight hurt me and that I need support. Told him about joining WW.

I said I would like to lose 3 stone - his reply was you lose 3 stone and I will buy you a nice piece of jewellery !(with what money I dont know !)

I suggested a Cartier Tank watch .

defyinggravity · 08/11/2009 19:18

captainunderpants I would tell your dh to get saving his money now as you are definitely going to do this!

duckyfuzz · 08/11/2009 21:44

according to the evil wii fit I have put on 5lbs in a week

Slimcognito · 08/11/2009 22:36

I've just remembered that DH has said he'll give me £1000 to spend on clothes if/when I lose the weight I've gained. But that shows how unmotivated I am - that offer has been on the table for over a year and I have actually gained 10 lb since then.

sweetboysmum · 09/11/2009 12:21

Wow, wish my dh would reward me for losing weight. I'll just have to treat myself, which I'm sure I'll manage.

I'm lacking motivation today. I think it's due to me being tired and my house is freezing which just makes me want to hibernate. Had a takeaway on Friday night but think I had worked hard for it after all that swimming. On Saturday I went out for an indian meal and very quickly regretted it. I had a bout of food poisening that lasted all day yesterday. Despite this, I'm still heavier than I was on Friday. in fact, I'm heavier than I was 2 weeks ago .

I'm going to force myself to go for a long walk in the freezing cold. The thought horrifies me but I know that I will enjoy it when i'm out. Will also keep me away from the kitchen for a while.

Oh and duckyfuzz, the WII fit IS evil. I stopped using mine because it was always telling me off for not being on it for a while or putting on weight etc. Made me feel guilty. Actually I haven't been on it since I've lost over a stone, do you think it'll cheer me on and congratulate me?

CaptainUnderpants · 09/11/2009 13:56

Although the weather has turned cold, its really good weather to get out and have a long brisk walk . Just walked 45mins in my lunch break and walked the boys to school this morning.

Slimcognito · 09/11/2009 15:18

Walked to the GPs then into town and back buggy pushing (2.5 hours) so feel virtuous today. Lovely sunshine as well as you say, CaptainUnderpants, really cheered me up.

duckyfuzz · 09/11/2009 22:03

wii fit has decided I've only put on 2lbs now it is a horrible bossy thing and never says well done sweetboysmum, I tried it after I lost a stone but it just chided me for not going on for however many days it was! Congrats to all fabulous ladies on here, I'm finding it harder as it gets darker and colder

smileyboy · 10/11/2009 12:47

Hi all, not been on here much lately but just wanted to come and check in with you all. How's everyone doing? I agree that the cold weather is a complete motivation killer. All I want to do is curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and biscuits.

However, I have been able to resist and have eaten less than 1500 cals a day for over a week now so haven't had any major slip ups for a bit. Dispite me and ds making butterfly cakes yesterday, I was good and resisted temptation. Felt very proud of my self as I did a work out I found on the Fitness Channel last night and actually completed it!

Really need to incorporate more excercise into my life long term really. I spend days rooted to the sofa or the floor playing with ds, it can't be healthy. Clearly it's not or I wouldn't weigh 13 stone! Was thinking of getting a Wi Fit but they are so expensive and judging by your comments, not very motivational! I would expect it congratulate you duckyfuzz!

Anyway, keep going everyone. I get weighed on Fridays at Boots as I don't own scales so I will let you know how it goes. Good luck everyone xxx

smileyboy · 10/11/2009 12:49

Oh and Captainunderpants, I am definitely going to see if my dh will offer such a reward ! Somehow I doubt it!

sweetboysmum · 10/11/2009 13:35

Hi,

Despite my lack of motivation yesterday I did well on the food front with no snacking and although it was cold during my walk, the sun was out and I was out for over 2 hours. It lifted my spirits.

I also had an early night which has made me feel good today. My new resolution is to try for early nights most nights as I think when I'm tired I tend not to exercise and overeat.

Dh will be home at a reasonable time to allow me to go swimming tonight and I'm going out for a walk shortly so that the lo can get some fresh air. Hope you're all doing well.

robino · 10/11/2009 16:30

Bloody facebook. A friend has just posted some pics from July and I look disgraceful . Consider me well and truly back on track folks.

A friend wants me to join her in a 5.5 mile race at the end of the month. 6 months ago I was regularly running 4.5 miles but then we moved, the kids were ill, OH was ill - I was just about getting back on track when I came down with appendicitus. Might see if I can do some serious running in the next couple of weeks and join her. OH has decided to stay over at work tonight (he commutes 90 mins each way) so I think I'll get the Wii fitness coach out as a start. She does moan a bit if you don't keep up with your schedule but at least she doesn't way you and doesn't cost as much as the wii fit (does measure your inches every so often though....)

defyinggravity · 12/11/2009 09:28

Hello everyone. Well, I've been pretty rubbish on diet. I've had a streaming cold and so has ds. Have compensated for it by eating lots of stodgy foods and junk basically, and have put on a pound!

I am getting back on track though and I'm sorry to let the side down.

Well done all of you that are still persevering.

sweetboysmum · 12/11/2009 10:29

Hi all. Well I decided it was a good idea to bake last night. i made lots of mini muffins, different flavours etc and of course i had to tase ALL of the different flavours so had 4 muffins before bedtime last night. Not good. Don't bake if you have no will power like me!

Plan on doing lots of housework today and use the pilates tonight. Mum also taking lo for an hour tomorrow so that i can go for a swim. Not looking forward to weighing in tomorrow tbh - don't think I'll like what i see. Am hoping for a miracle.

smileyboy · 12/11/2009 14:18

Sweetboy, don't worry you said they were MINI muffins!!! lol. Don't beat yourself up. Carry on. My problem is that whenever I fall off the wagon or eat junk for just a day, I find it really hard to pick myself up and carry on with the diet the next day. I just feel like a failure and then want to eat more.

Robino, funny you mentioned Facebook. I am here for exactly the same reason! My friend put up pictures of me at her BBQ and I was so embarressed that everyone could see me looking like this so I decided to come on here and try to do something about it.

Not going too badly here. I haven't eaten any junky things but I still have problems with my potion sizes. I had a healthy lunch of brown rice and loads veges like courgesstes and peppers, onions in a homemade tomato and herb sauce. It was really chunky and a good plate full but just an hour later and I am fantasising about food again! Arrrgh!!! Trying to drink water to supress my enormous appitite.

Excercise not going so well here. I haven't left the house for 2 days cos the weather's so vile so not even done any walking.

Better go and keep busy. ds asleep at the minute and I always want to snack when he's asleep and I am bored!

sweetboysmum · 13/11/2009 10:18

Hi, i have weighed in this morning and am now 12st 9 1/4 lbs. That's a 2 1/4lbs weigh loss this week. Yippee!

Swimming has helped I think. I went on Tuesday and managed 64 lengths (a mile) and yesterday I did 70 lengths. I love swimming and it's nice to be able to do something I like that also benefits the weigh loss.

On Tuesday a guy spoke to me in the pool and later when i waiting on a bus home he drove past, u turned and came back to ask me if i wanted a lift. I refused & thanked later I told my dh and asked what he thought. I told him he coulnd't have fancied me because he'd seen me in my swimming costume. DH said "yeh". Huh, dh full on compliments eh? Said he didn't mean it like that. Not sure exactly what he meant it like tbh!

Going to try for another session of swimming this weekend. I've a big night out planned in 2 weeks and want to lose 5 lbs for it. Unlikely, but I'll set my aims high. Am very aware Christmas is only 6 weeks away. If I lose at least lose 2lbs a week until then, that'll be 12 lbs off for Christmas and I'll be under 12 stones.

sweetboysmum · 13/11/2009 10:19

Oops - obviously didn't proof read again .

defyinggravity · 13/11/2009 10:50

Excellent news on the weight loss sweetboysmum. And on getting chatted up. Makes you feel good doesn't it.

OP posts:
Slimcognito · 13/11/2009 12:21

smileyboy are you a veggie? Only I reckon you might find more protein fills you up better than rice and veg, however chunky.

sweetboysmum ooh get you, getting chatted up at the swimming pool. Well done on your loss too!

How is everyone else doing?

I lost 2lb this week.
