ATKINS support thread - who's with me?!

ElectricElephant · 09/09/2009 12:54

Following on from my other post asking advice on Atkins, I'm going to give it a preoper go now and aim to lose 10lb by the end of September.

Who's with me - Katisha, Eyeballs, anybody else?

I'll start. This time last week I was 14 stone. I'm now 13 stone, 11lb. WOOHOO!

Ooh, sounds good!
I'm been fairly good today, bacon and eggs for breakfast, cheese for lunch, dinner is pork with a sauce made of tomatoes, onions, peppers and chilli.

I did drink the strawberry milkshake that was in the fridge though. Oh well, it's gone now

Hope your head feels better soon - drink lots of water

Katisha · 12/10/2009 10:27

Are you both still about?

It's Monday so I am starting again. Noticed that Cranberry Atkins bars in Tesco were a fraction of the price of the choc chip ones so have loaded up - I find them a useful stop-gap for those "there's nothing in the house I can et without having to crack eggs or chop salad" moments...

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/10/2009 16:15

Hi - have added you to the chart, Katish - you need to send me your e-mail and then I can forward it to you as well. (You can do that on the low-carb site).

I like those Atkins bars, but I'm always a bit worried that they seem to impede weight loss for some people.

My major problem at the moment (apart from laying off the wine!) is finding decent food to eat on the go. I was in Manchester all day yesterday, will be travelling to Leeds on Friday, and then to Manchester next Wednesday and Devon next Thursday. It's OK if they do breakfast on the train, but otherwise I'm reduced to dashing into M&S and spending a shedload of money on the same old stuff all the time.

However, mustn't moan, as the weight is going in the right direction.

Katisha · 13/10/2009 16:54

Thanks BIWI - have emailed you.

Yes it's really tricky when you are out and about - our culture is so carb based it's not true...It's all sandwich shope and wraps etc. I used to rely on Subway low-carb wraps a few years ago when I first did low-carb, but I think they ditched the low-carb aspect of it. Pret have some decent salads.

Well oddly having moaned the other week about the scales not budging, and having eaten all sorts of carbery over the last fortnight, I appear to have lost about 3lbs. Most perplexing.

But I have inspired myself by having a good chuck out of all the clothes that I never wear any more, and in a few weeks, on a thin day, I shall go and buy some new ones, as I realise I have been wearing the same 3 or 4 outfits for months and months.

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/10/2009 14:23

IMovetheStars - I'm getting very confused with different names and different sites! Are you LD? You haven't sent me a starting weight (nor one for this week!).

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 21/10/2009 12:42

Argh - sorry, keep meaning to post on this thread then forget!

BIWI - I'm ElectricElephant. I'm rubbish, I know.
Weighed myself on Monday and I'm 192lb (2lb gain from the week before, grr) but am back on induction and I can feel it coming off

Katisha · 22/10/2009 12:56

Are you going to update on the lowcarb board Electric?
I'm finding BIWI's chart is focussing my mind!

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/10/2009 11:18

That's good, Katisha! Wish it was working for me ...

ah well. Have had a bugger of a week with work, so it has been hard, and it's AF/TOM now as well, which won't be helping.

EE/IMTSFN - I will update your chart (but I've forgotten who you are in RL ! Give me a clue here, then I know who to send it to!

Katisha · 23/10/2009 11:35

It's odd - since moaning to you a few weeks ago about how nothing was happening, all of a sudden in the past 2 or 3 weeks I seem to have lost half a stone.

I think TOM has an awful lot to do with it actually.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 23/10/2009 11:39

Yes, I'll try to remember to update when I get home - BIWI - we have the same first name, enough of a reminder for you?

TOM definitely has a massive impact for me - didn't lose anything for the last fortnight, but this week I have lost a lot (must weigh myself again tonight)

sagan · 25/10/2009 15:03

I just popped into this thread to have a look as Atkins is very similar to the diet I'm following at the moment, Nedis and India's idiot proof diet. Having tried (and failed) at Atkins in the past, I decided to give this one a bash and it's been fab. I'm struck by how many of you are having 'unallowed' things quite frequently though and then wondering why it's not working. That sounds harsh, but it really is something you have to be dedicated to. It might be worth a quick visit to the pig2twig forum to see what the idiot proof diet is all about. I think the thing that made all the difference this time is that this diet and the book that goes with it deals with the psychological aspect of dieting as well, which has always been a big barrier for me. If you are cheating so often, are you deiberately tryign to sabotage yourself? I really think you need to be in the right headspace to diet successfully

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 26/10/2009 13:28
Hmm
Casserole · 26/10/2009 14:06

Just restarted Atkins today, so just checking in really. Have about 3st to lose.

Not much else to add! Have stinking cold and really don't feel like starting today, but I've planned to start so I have.

Interesting about self-sabotage, I'm going to think about that for a while.

Casserole · 26/10/2009 16:12

Just been out to buy flaxseed meal and a big lump of Brie, going to try and make those crackers. And if not, I'll just pour the Brie down my throat ;)

sagan · 26/10/2009 16:26

No need for the eyes Imove. I was just sharing an observation, based on my own dieting experience. The fact is, if you're going to just eat or drink whatever you find in the fridge, then this diet won't work for you. There's no gentler way of putting it really, and also the very nature of atkins means that if you do cheat, you will pile weight on

sagan · 26/10/2009 16:29

and yes it is odd when newbies start posting links to other sites. I can assure you I have been here 5 years, its l i t t l e l a m b here, have namechanged since one Mner weirded me out irl

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/10/2009 16:59

sagan - I think we all know that if we cheat then the diet isn't going to work, and your post - whilst I'm sure was intended to be helpful, was more than a little patronising.

I'm glad TIPD is working for you. That's the key though, isn't it? Finding something that works for us as individuals.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 26/10/2009 17:10

sagan - the was because we're all perfectly aware of the rules of Atkins.

Sorry, but your post, like BIWI said, was patronising.

Anyway - back to the thread...

Casserole ~waves~ I haven't tried the flaxseed things yet - guess I'm not totally convinced of their carb-free-ness

BIWI/Katisha - How's your weight loss going this week? I'm down to 187, which means I've lost 13lb since beginning of September!

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/10/2009 17:17

IMove - I don't think I have your e-mail details, especially if we share the same first name, as you say! You can PM me directly from the other site with it.

My own weight loss. Don't know I find the weekends much harder for some reason at the moment. I am weighing in again tomorrow, but I'm doubtful that I've lost much if anything this week (am definitely suffering because of AF/TOM)

Well done you though - 13lbs is brilliant!

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 26/10/2009 18:33

I'll pop over to the other board and leave my details...

...there, done.

and thank you

I saw a friend today that I haven't seen in about 2months, and the first thing she said was 'have you lost weight?'

hurrah!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/10/2009 18:37

Lovely when others notice!

Katisha · 26/10/2009 18:41

BIWI have just emailed you with this week's non-effort!
But as I said, I was kind of expecting it after a bit of self-sabotage, or as I prefer to think of it, a day off...

Although I know the Rules state that this is not allowed, I find that in the long term it doesn't hurt too much as long as I don't let it become the thin end of the wedge. I have been encouraged by my weight loss in the last few weeks, which has happened despite the occasional slice of bread.

But I think a combination of a pizza at the w/e and the time of month means I may not see much movement on the scales for the next week.

Katisha · 27/10/2009 09:16

I tell a lie - I am down two pounds this morning!

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 27/10/2009 09:20

woo hoo!

Katisha · 27/10/2009 09:23

I tell you - it's completely random with me!
