Following on from my other post asking advice on Atkins, I'm going to give it a preoper go now and aim to lose 10lb by the end of September.

Who's with me - Katisha, Eyeballs, anybody else?

I'll start. This time last week I was 14 stone. I'm now 13 stone, 11lb. WOOHOO!

Katisha · 10/09/2009 20:43

Oh yes string beans. Makes 'em sound really appetising no?
Anyway - they seem to be OK as long as you are not eating bucketloads.

ElectricElephant · 10/09/2009 21:02

Come on, someone join in for the mortifying daily weigh in? Just so I don't feel like a total loser.

OP posts:
ElectricElephant · 11/09/2009 17:27

Day 2:
Weight - 196.2
Body fat - 41.6
BMI - 32.7

Katisha · 11/09/2009 17:30

Huh scales are not moving for me yet.
But well done!

ElectricElephant · 11/09/2009 17:33

thank you!!
I did start induction the day after my AF finished (sorry if TMI) so I think that's part of it.

I doubt i'll be able to keep up that level of weight loss though!

Beer last night = stupid stupid stupid

Day 4:
I appear to have stalled..

Weight: 197.2
Body fat: 42.2

Waist 93cm.

OP posts:
fatjac · 14/09/2009 08:43

I feel a lot better today thankyou. Needless to say I haven't really been following this while feeling so crap over the weekend but will make a fresh start today. Just off to walk DS to nursery then I'll have some scrambled eggs I think.

Katisha · 14/09/2009 11:27

Just quick post as supposed to be doing some work, but ELectric I don't think you ought to weigh every day - it doesn't really work like that and you will depress yourself and get demotivated if it hasn't dropped.

Also, on my previous atkins efforts I noticed a sort of three-day effect - so if you have something unhelpful (like beer then it shows up three days or so later.

I would def say don't get on teh scales until Friday.

EyeballsintheSky · 14/09/2009 14:31

Hello all

Just so you don't think I've run off, I have indeed started a diet today but not Atkins. I found all my WW books and my points calculator during a clear out yesterday so am giving that a go.

Good luck with your low carbing. If I can't stick to WW then I'll be back!

ElectricElephant · 14/09/2009 19:06

OK, I won't get on the scales today. I am feeling a little thinner though so feeling positive

Yes, stupid beer. I only had a half, but it obviously had a big impact.

Will be extra strict over the next few days.

fatjac, glad you're feeling better

OP posts:
Katisha · 14/09/2009 19:18

Tell us how you are getting on Eyeballs.
Fatjac - off we go then! Towards Thinjac presumably?
I think I may have lost about 2 pounds after the first week although my scales are pretty fuzzy...So it's not exactly dropping off but it's in the right direction!

ElectricElephant · 16/09/2009 19:43

Blergh... totally losing momentum with this. Being uber strict at the moment and it's just getting really difficult.

At least I can distract myself with work tomorrow.

OP posts:
Katisha · 16/09/2009 20:20

which aspect are you finding difficult in particular?

ElectricElephant · 16/09/2009 21:00

I don't know, it's been a week and I've been really pleased that I haven't been craving bread, but all I want to eat is cheese and crackers.

I've had a fat day, I'll be fine tomorrow.

OP posts:
Katisha · 16/09/2009 21:05

Well I have just had cheese and crackers! Custardo kindly sent me a packet of flaxmeal (ground up linseeds) and they are effectively zero carb. You can turn it into something pretty similar to crackers in about 3 mins.

See here.

In the meantime try cream cheese on celery. And you could fork out for the Atkins cereal bars although they come in quite expensive at over £5 for a packet of 5. Forget what they are called now - used to be Morning Shine or something.

ElectricElephant · 16/09/2009 21:59

oh, i'm jealous! although I have just had roast chicken with garlic, with green beans

very nice, and feel better.

unfortunately I just can't stomach celery. thanks for reminding me about the flaxseed thing. Meals are easy, it's the snacks that are tricky.

OP posts:
ElectricElephant · 18/09/2009 20:11

Just looked at the link, that's brilliant, thanks.

Weight 194lb Hooray!

How are you geting on?

OP posts:
Katisha · 18/09/2009 20:18

Well done! How is that dress looking?

Well the usual thing is happening with me. I did proper low carbing a few years back and got a good amount of post-baby weight off.

Since then I have faffed about in a cycle of putting on and losing the same stone. So now my body seems to think "ah she's started that low carb thing again - well I'm not playing".

The upshot being that I don't have much to show for it so far, but will persevere. At least I have lost the bloaty stomach sensation and have got the hunger and shakiness if I haven't eaten for 10 mins under control. Maybe have lost a couple of pounds in the two weeks if I don't stand properly on the scales...

ElectricElephant · 18/09/2009 22:23

Trying the dress on at the weekend... definitely feel thinner even if I'm still almost 14 stone. I am liking the lack of hunger pangs and the low blood-sugar shakiness.

Keep going, maybe it's just taking a little longer to get your body into atkins mode. I've only been at it a week now. good luck

OP posts:
Katisha · 21/09/2009 13:55

How was dress?

I am really struggling today - had a weekend of excessive carbiness. We were invited out one evening and had people over ourselves the next day and I refuse to fiddle about low carbing in these circs!

So of course today I have huge sugar cravings. Sigh.

ElectricElephant · 22/09/2009 21:34

Katisha, how are you doing now? Keep at it - I tried the dress on at the weekend and it's SO much better. i've lost 7lb!! Am totally amazed, but I have been extremely strict.

Have a couple of days of jus eggs and chicken and get yourself back into lipolysis

OP posts:
Katisha · 22/09/2009 22:35

Hey fantastic! Well done!

Yes I am still struggling - it's amazing how a weekend of "normal eating" ie stuffing down pudding can make the next couple of days so hard.

Struggling again today - feeling tired and consequently have far exceeded the carb limit.

Will be back on track tomorrow! Oh yes I will.

ElectricElephant · 22/09/2009 23:09

yes, yes you will!!!

Found that weighing myself daily, and giving myself a ridiculous target actually spurred me on! if I hadn't lost 1/2lb in a day I would get even more strict.

I'm eating virtually nothing at the moment, I'm just not hungry, it's amazing. Admitedly it's the first time I've done Atkins so it's obviously working!!

Shall i post pictures of my dress when it fits me? So close.......

OP posts:
Tortington · 22/09/2009 23:13
