I started [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/673982-so-3-double-G-amp-Ts-and-a-bo x-of this thread]] after Christmas, but like many others I've slipped back into my old ways. Half term was particularly bad and need to kick-start healthy eating/weight loss. Anyone from that thread or any new people care to join me?

thanks wabbit, am ok, just lots going on, every area of my life is hectic and manic at the mo so a bit stressed. Nothing really bad for anyone to worry about, but once I come on to MN I suddenly lose an hour or so each time, time I really can't afford right now. Keep going folks, I am sure I will lurk and need to know you are all doing well!!

take care liliolil

allovertheplace · 23/03/2009 12:40

Yes - please come back soon Lilolil. Hope things feel more manageable soon too.

Hi All.

Well after Saturday's day off the wagon I stuck to points pretty much ok on Sunday and determined to carry on the good work today. I have to say that I still feel my clothing is tight so doesn't look like my excess fluid has gone yet - so fed up! I know I need to exercise more too but just feel so lethargic at the mo and well, just not motivated because I'm not seeing any benefit from counting points.

wabbit · 23/03/2009 13:53

Oh allovertheplace - have you been onto the WW website? there are tips to help get past a plateau - it's recognised that dieters reach points where they stop losing weight.

Now - on the lethargy front... caffiene can make it worse (I know sounds crazy as it's a stimulant) would you be willing to wean yourself off caffiene? both I and my BIL have ditched tea and coffee... I went cold turkey and had terrible headaches for three days so i don't recommend that!

Our energy levels have soared and BIL is doing a 'caveman diet' Meat and veg - very little carbs - no potatoes. He's lost 2stones so far which he was desperately in need of doing... another 2 to go

Trying to suggest things here... eat a larger brekky, banana toast is good as slow energy release and the potassium in the banana will help energy levels

I'm taking a zinc and vitamin C supplement whilst I'm dieting to keep my immune system strong.

Wish I could help more allovertheplace - so much of it is mental attitude.

sending dieting vibes your way {{{{{{vibes}}}}}}

managed to stay only 3 points off target yesterday and they're already saved so still on track here

Today
Ryvita cottage cheese and smoked salmon
baked beans on toast
apple

dp's doing jacket potato, steak and salad tonight

upagumtree · 23/03/2009 14:35

lilolil i'm gonna miss you. Hope everything calms down for you soon. Fingers crossed you're back with your MN pals soon. And we're always here if you need to chat/get things off your chest/general support. Sending you loads of hugs babes

Ok diet...been bad. Been very bad! Everything that is ~as a rule~ a no no, I have eaten in abundance this weekend. Although had a really tasty and healthy dinner last night, but finished off with home made apple crumble {{{damn these fabuouls MN recipes}}} Seriously good apple crumble though

We had my gran staying with us over the weekend and tried to makeher feel realy special on mothers day which mean that we didn't go for our usual swim or weigh in. But that is 3 weeks in a row I haven't been so i'll need to make sure nothing gets in the way of next weeks swim. I don't feel i've lost any weight though so maybe it's just as well i havent seen a set of scales for a while.

wabbit How is washington? What did the vet say? I hope he's ok. Good advice you gave about energy levels. I need to cut down on caffeine and start drinking more herbal tea again. Oh and lol@protecting assets

Allovertheplace IKWYM about energy levels too. It migh be worth going to your practise nurse and having your Iron and ferratin levels checked.

Mabs Also V {envy] of personal trainer...you lucky girl

wabbit · 23/03/2009 15:11

oh yes... left you in the lurch about Washington - nasty cancerous tumour much bigger than the vet initially anticipated so the surgery took longer - had a very dopey cat home on friday, limping and utterly mortified that he had to wear a ghastly collar to stop him rupturing the wound.

When we came home friday night he'd taken off the collar and was desperate to go outside. Only managed to keep him in for 20hrs or so as he's such an escapologist!

He's been allowed to sleep on our bed for the last two nights and you can tell he thinks he's the bees knees! He has his check-up tomorrow... His personality's changed too - he's been much sweeter tempered since

upagumtree · 23/03/2009 15:29

Oh poor washington!! Gawd I hope he will be ok. A good sign though that he was desperate to go outside even with stiches in situ!

My poor cat has dementia and she's doing all sorts of crazy things. This morning she pee'd all over my kitchen work surface and she sleeps in her cat litter tray and she even eats her cat litter from time to time. It's doing my head in...but she's old, what can I do. Hubby said that the vet would put her to sleep, so I have deliberately not taken her. She isn't in any pain, just confused

loler · 23/03/2009 15:50

Hi everyone -

Lil - hope everything sorts itself out. Know what yo mean about losing an hour - even lurking you do!

I used my 4 points the other night for a chip butty - DH came home late with a portion of fish and chips. Probably went over my points but hey!

Have gone over for the last 4 days so am trying to be very good and only eat light things today so that I will have lost something tonight.

wabbit · 23/03/2009 15:56

Ahhh your poor old pusscat! They do get dotty in old age sometimes - I have to admit that when my poor old Tiddles wee'd all over the cooker hob... it was the last straw! She though, was so very weakly and scrawny from liver failure, it was a kindness.

Washington should keep going for a good few years yet, vet said he could tell from the type of tumour that it wasn't aggressive

wabbit · 23/03/2009 16:00

Hi loler - it's been a bit of a special weekend - hope your weigh in goes ok

loler · 23/03/2009 17:15

oops - a load of messages appeared while I was posting (between pretending to be a great mother) - it takes me so long to read and then type a post that I have a huge time lag.

We are also of the aged cat group. I ran mine over a week before ds1 was born - fractured her pelvis - £960 later I now scream at her - 'if you weren't so expensive you'd be dead!'. DH said I should have done a better job. The trauma gave her a bit of a personality change too - she's much more loving. Gone from a scratch you it you look at her cat to a sit on your lap cat.

madhairday · 23/03/2009 17:28

Hello (shyly creeps in)...
Have not been on this thread for a couple of weeks - not avoiding it but have been ill again so not eating in that time anyway, so doesn't really count.

Present stats are 10st6lbs, still would like to be 10st for easter and eventually 9.5 stone, but looking unreal now, too close to Easter, and when those choccy eggs come calling I'll have no hope lol. Perhaps I can adjust the target to 10st 4lb for Easter, for now. Wabbit, thanks for the great stats job, good to see where we all are. You look like you're doing brilliantly, well done.

Hope you are all doing ok...again sorry for being MIA.

Hi Madhairday - Lovely to see you back, sorry you've been poorly, hope you're much better now
don't give up on your target for Easter... it's three weeks nearly, so you'd average 2lb per week to reach it - which is doable

loler - poor cat, what a nightmare, must have shaken you all up.

allovertheplace · 23/03/2009 18:14

Thanks Wabbit

Something is definitely not working for me so thanks for the advice - I will investigate and experiment further - especially the caffeine thing. I do have a LOT of caffeine in a day so cutting down may help, (although will wean off gently!) Maybe one in the morning and one in the afternoon to start with and decaf in between. Sorry to hear Washington has had a hard time. I love cats. This time last year I had three and now I'm left with my big boy Dudley having lost the two old-ish ladies, (Cassie and Daphne) to kidney disease. So horrible! Speaking of cats, Dudley is licking the back of my hand while I'm typing so I think I'd better go feed him!!

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 00:00

Oh Loler your poor cat. Must have been painful!

Good to see ya back

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 10:51

Ok. This is it ladies! Back on track. I'm going to start calorie counting again. Tis the only way to keep me on the straight and narrow. As long as I can keep enough calories back to enjoy a glass of vino or two I shall be happy. I have really let myself slip...but no more!

Have logged breakfast on food focus and will continue to log all foods.

It will be ds2 birthday next month and we have decided to get me him the wii console with wii sports and wii fit. Which i'm sooooooo excited about. Hmmm can already envisage the fights over this but it'll be worth it.

Wabbit how ou getting on with your race for life training?

madhairday · 24/03/2009 12:24

Good for you upagumtree. Think you're right that we need something concrete to keep us motivated. well done.
Wabbit, you've persuaded me. will go for the 10 stone mark for Easter. would be brilliant.
Have done well so far today,. just a bowl of porridge (with sugar, to my shame....can't eat it unsweetened, just can't - my sweet tooth is my downfall) and a cup of tea (also with sugar...aagh, I know) But coming up lunch and I'm starving. Determined though to have sensible healthy lunch. will report back, and that will make me be good....I think
Good luck everyone.

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 12:39

Hi Madhairday, yip I think sticking to a plan is just the ticket, although WW is just far too challenging for me and I envy the girls that can stick to it So gonna try once again with the calorie counting.

So far: Breakfast ~ special k
Have had 3 cups of tea since I got up this morning

Not sure about lunch. Need to have a look in the fridge/cupboard.

Already have mince cooking in the slow cooker for dinner this evening. We'll have boiled potatoes and peas with it (running low on food atm. Shop not due til Thursday so need to make do with tins of peas etc just now)

Incidentaly does anyone know how to calculate the calories in a serving of mince? You see this is what puts me off calorie counting. Trying to calculate the calories of homemade foods.

madwomanintheattic · 24/03/2009 12:57

10 stone 11. sigh.

also been MIA but have resurrected scales.

soup made. lunches

now that i actually know how heavy i am, am going to attempt 10.6 by easter, is that possible? if i really put my mind to it?

will try to post daily on food/exercise progress to motivate myself into paying attention lol.

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 13:13

Madwoman, that sounds like a master plan! ou will succeed

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 13:17

BTW did you buy those apricots for the morrocan chicken?

loler · 24/03/2009 13:35

Well despite of going over points for the last 4 days I lost 3lb! Yippee! Got a challenging week this week so am going to have to up the exercise!

Was going to say something else but its gone!

madwomanintheattic · 24/03/2009 13:55

waitrose didn't have any... but going to sainsbo's on thurs, so i know what's for dinner at the end of the week lol.

well done loler! now i know what i weigh i've got to try and keep up!

upagumtree · 24/03/2009 13:58

Wow Loler, that's fantastic. Your hard work is paying off so well done!

You weren,t going to tel me how many calories are in a serving of mince by any chance? No? Oh well just a long shot

Lunch: 1 slice wholegrain toast with mashed banana. No spread.

allovertheplace · 24/03/2009 17:09

Nice one Loler - well done! I need some inspiration and you've delivered!

Hi to madwomanintheattic and madhairday - lovely to see you back girlies!

Gumtree - according to Weight Loss Resources, Cooked Minced Beef is 286 cals per 100 g. Hope that's helpful!

Well ladies, as I said yesterday, something isn't working for me and I've found out what that is. My piggin' bathroom scales! They told me that I had put on 2 lbs this morning! I then went on Wii fit and using the same settings as always, it tells me I've lost a pound since 10 days ago. So the scales are going!

Anyhoo - Wabbit - I actually don't know what my start weight was now or how much I've lost. Taking everything into consideration, and approaching it scientifically, I would say I was probably around 10 st 6 lbs when I started and I'm now sitting at 10 st 0 lbs (according to Wii fit). I'm going to use that to weigh myself from now on.

Anyhoo, I've got a pot of meat-free chilli on the stove so must go and check on it!
