New thread for us to waffle on and moan about baby fat, without boring the others...and hopefully drop a few pounds along the way!

I am currently 11 stone - 69.8 kg
Want to be pre preg weight of 59 kg, about 9 stone 4 i think.

If everyone posts stats maybe i can do a bisou style list. (don't post weights if you don't want to! amount to lose will do!)

Weigh in on Mondays?

YAY PMK!!!!!! That is fabulous!!!! Here is the spreadsheet!!

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 10:14

Ok, slightly less despondency as today I am finally under 63 kg and down to 62.6.

Well done pmk, that is amazing! I have just updasted ss on my computer, need to upload, but DS crying, so back in a bit

What is BMR?

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 10:40

OK, it should be there now!
He's having his nap.

I have decided I really should get my road bike fixed. The weather is so lovely and I could get out if it worked. Much easier to do a quick road bike ride than mtb ride. But the new bits are going to cost me about 300 quid if I replace them like for like! Think I must bite the bullet.

Summer BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate - the amount of calories your body needs to maintain current weight depending on exercise etc
Harris Benedict Formula Work out yours, and then make sure you get a deficit each day (energy in less than energy out) and you will lose weight, but you have to be pretty accurate at working out calories you are consuming! I was amazed when I wrote down everything I ate, and it was obvious why I was at a standstill!

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 12:36

Hmmm...ok I will give it a try.
Isn't it a PITA calculating how many calories are in everything you eat?

Maybe I am eating too much fruit? E.g I have had 2 pears and some grapes today without even thinking about it.

It says my BMR is 1400! That is so pants. Even if I excercise 6-7 times a week it still reckons I only get 2300 calories a day. Rubbish! Do you get extra for breastfeeding?

OP posts:
pmk1 · 20/04/2009 13:04

well yeah it is a pita counting calories but I had no idea how many "empty" calories I was consuming and how 1 spot of cheerfulness often turned into 2 or 3 spots and right there you have 400 calories alone! My BMR with no exercise is 1700-ish so I'm keeping it at around 1200 with exercising. I think you need a deficit of around 500 calories a day to lose 1kg in a week.
They say BF takes about 500 calories a day right? You can definitely add that on yes. I don't as I am not fully BF anymore. I've been managing a deficit of about 400 per day on average and I lost 1kg - this is the first week I've been doing it though. I also don't eat starchy stuff after breakfast (sometimes the odd sandwich at lunch) Fruit does have a lot of natural sugars so does add up - it's why I gained so much during pregnancy as I craved OJ and was drinking 1-1.5 litres a day!!!

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 13:22

I told dh I wasn't drinking oj due to diet ages ago and he thought I was crackers!
May try adding stuff up and aiming for 1500 a day and keeping up the exercise.
Thanks for the tips!

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 13:30

Good luck!
Yeah OJ is big calories if you drink too much! I stick to one glass now.
Hope it works for you.... I'm def no personal trainer (far too cheerful for that) but I'm just doing what dh said - he's into all that exact science stuff especially now since he's trying to lose weight to be lighter on the bike etc...

Kayzr · 20/04/2009 13:31

My BMR is 1714. I'm not sure how many calories I have a day as I just work everything out in points.

I love OJ, it is lovely!!

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 13:40

pmk do you measure stuff out, or do you just guess on calories? I have a reasonable idea how many calories are in certain things due to dieting when a teenager but evening dinners, etc I would probably struggle with.

OP posts:
pmk1 · 20/04/2009 14:08

sometimes.... for example i usually have oats for breakfast and I always only have the serving size which is 45 grams and on the box it says 160 calories. Usually I make it with water (as I can't tell the difference) But if you have toast etc it always says on the bag calories per slice. I do love those salt and vinegar rice cakes and often have been eating them with cottage cheese, tomatoes etc. The rice cakes also say 28 cals per rice cake on the bag. As far as fruit and veg you can look online for cal content of certain foods - ie I eat a lot of fish and use this one and most of the portions you would buy are around 200 grams etc or I will weigh it myself
I've been strict this week just to see if it works - hoping not to fall off the wagon, so far so good, but holiday coming up....

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 14:09

kayz I think WW is basically the same idea in controlling calories - just easier as you can as you say just do the pints thing....

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 14:17

lol points not pints!! See cheerfulness always on the mind!

daisydora · 20/04/2009 17:09

Just checking in...not sure how much I havee lost....will definately have put on after a week All Inclusive. Anyway I don't get weighed at WW until Thursday so I will find out how bad I've been then. I am really dreading it.

Congrats to everyone who has lost!!

tillyfernackerpants · 20/04/2009 19:31

Well done pmk & summer, that's great!

My first weigh-in is tomorrow, I'm really hoping I've lost some as I've been so good this week! I haven't even given in to temptation & eaten ds1's easter eggs!

feralgirl · 20/04/2009 21:36

Hello all; just reading your posts has inspired me again. Amazing how other people's weight loss can spur you on a bit.

Have managed to lose 2lb this week just by avoiding cake so have gone from 13st 2lb to bang on 13s! Have decided to exercise every day (buggy fit class here I come) and only eat proper 'pudding' once a week.

I really need to fit back into my first trimester size 16 trousers before I go back to work in July and am still wearing my maternity trousers at the moment!

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 21:44

Feral well done - where are you doing the buggy fit? I really want to do that but i'm scared.....

SummerLightning · 20/04/2009 22:47

Hi feralgirl welcome back.
pmk my mate has been to buggy fit and she said it wasn't scary or too hardcore at all. She can't run at the moment as she still gets SPD and they did power walking stuff I think.
But then you londoners might have more hardcore classes lol. I think I might give it a go too at some point.
So I added up what I had today.

It came to more than I thought
2 pears (140)
1 orange (60)
Grapes * quite a lot (100)
Brekkie (400)
Lunch
Soup (400)
Dinner
Salmon 150g, (340)
lentils 75g ish (280)
Other nice gubbins in with lentils , eg sun dried tomatoes, onion (80)

1800 calories!
Damn!

OP posts:
pmk1 · 20/04/2009 23:45

Summer - yeah, that's the thing I found you see.... You don't notice it until you wrikte it down... I always thought I ate quite lo cal before - but even though the foods I ate were lo cal, they added up to high cal!
Good job though adding it all up...

pmk1 · 20/04/2009 23:47

I went more than i'd like tonight - had a vodka /diet lemonade (however surprisingly low cal) and 2? wines after last BF at 6pm however just salmon and broccoli for dinner...

tillyfernackerpants · 22/04/2009 04:07

So first week on WW & I lost 5.5lbs, yayy! I feel so much better for resisting ds1's easter eggs

Kayzr · 22/04/2009 08:49

Thats brilliant Tilly!!!!

Nolda · 22/04/2009 09:05

Wow, well done Tilly!

LadyThompson · 22/04/2009 09:19

First of all - Tilly, that's a quite brilliant effort!

Have been reading all this stuff about BMR with great interest. Will calculate mine. I can't even BEAR to weigh myself for a while so you will all have to bear with me it is just too demotivating.

Cheerfulness aside, I too have been eating low-cal foods for ages but like some of you I just think I have been eating too many of them! I do eat a fair amount of fruit in the hope that it's doing me good, but maybe it's part of the problem...

I think oats for breakfast, rice cakes and toppings for lunch and protein and veg for supper is a good one, PMK. Might try that. I like the scientific approach. Maybe I will plcuk up the courage to get on the scales next week...

Turniphead1 · 22/04/2009 18:24

found you all....

haven't been on main thread in over a week or so due to Easter hols and having all three solo followed sadly by broadband breaking and iphone dying....

Right - I am on day 8 of "being good" and gosh darn it this seems to be particularly hard weight to lose! I am gutted that I have GAINED a stone since L was 6 weeks old. How daft is that (cheerfulness and Green and Blacks and lots of toast and peanut butter).

So I am now 12 stone spot on (5ft 6)and want to get down to 10 stone 3 or 4 ounces. I aim to have lost a stone by end of May!

I am really annoyed to still be in maternity clothes essentially and someone at a recent social event basically asked me how the pregnancy is going ...First time this has happened. With my other two whilst it took a few months to get down to an ecceptable weight I didn't actually look pregnant!!

Oh well, hope you will all inspire me. I tend to go the low carb route (not full Atkins as that is VERY bad) but the less wheat etc I can eat the better. I was at the gym today and did 45mins of cardio based stuff and then some toning. All has to help right.

Tilly well done! Now I know I know your previous name but remind me (with a clue please). I found the recent name changes a bit confusing as I am a donut head.
