New thread! Other one got a bit long!

Tommy · 20/01/2009 13:38

thanks fairlady - I will kick off by syaing that I put on a pound this week

I'm not surprised as I went out for 2 meals over the weekend and a tea party - too many cakes, scones etc and my will power was rubbish.

I really am aiming for a pound a week (off ideally ) so I'm a bit disappointed but it's my own fault. I have made quorn shepherd's pie for dinner so I'm back on the right track

FairLadyRantALot · 20/01/2009 14:05

oh dear tommy...well, I am sure you gonna loose that pound and another by next week!

Oh,after last week doing orange (prefer that over brown, lol) days I had a right mixture this week...so, shall see what that did...

loobyt · 20/01/2009 16:43

You weighing in tomorrow Fairlady? Good luck if so.

Tommy 1lb isn't bad really and as FAIRLADY SAYS i'M SURE YOU WILL SHIFT THIS AND MORE (oops) next week as putting on always makes me extra specially good the following week!

Curry for dinner, just a couple of syns in the coconut milk, yummy!

FairLadyRantALot · 20/01/2009 16:49

yeah, my weigh in is on Wednesdays!
We are having stuffed Peppers, yum (stuffed with minced meat, peppers, onion and mushrooms)

I am planning to join my local sw class tommorrow night, is it ok to join your thread and has anyone got any tips, advice, nice recipes that can help me on my way

ladymariner · 20/01/2009 19:25

Evening all

I've just posted this on the other thread, I made the creamy mushroom stroganoff tonight and it was absolutely delicious!!! I'm on a Green day so I had it with loads of rice. It was so quick and easy to make aswell (it has to be for me to do it )

FairLadyRantALot · 20/01/2009 19:59

sounds lovely ladymariner Is it in the green recipe book or a magazine?

caykon...what sort of things do you like? Are you more a pasta/potato person or a meatlover? Or do you like both?

OP posts:
Tommy · 20/01/2009 21:23

shepherd's pie was very nice!

quorn mince, onions, carrot, mushrooms and stock with some tomato puree and a spoon of marmite plus a bay leaf and lots of pepper topped with mash with low fat fromage frais and topped with HE of mature cheese

would like the mushroon strog recipe as well please!

ladymariner · 20/01/2009 21:29

It was in the new SW magazine but here it is to save you looking:

. 3 cloves garlic ( I cheated and used 2tsp garlic granules)
. 1 red and 1 yellow pepper
. 8 spring onions
. approx 500g mixed mushrooms
. handful of tarragon
. handful chopped chives ( I used dried though for both these as didn't have fresh and it was fine)
. 1 tsp paprika
. 1/4 pint veg stock
. 250g pot of fat-free fromage frais

Chop everything up and cook it in frying pan sprayed with fry-light. Add herbs and stock and bring to the boil. Cover and cook for about 25-30 mins till thickened. Take off heat and stir in f.frais. Serve with rice.

(it also said seasoning but I didn't add that as I put too much salt on my food anyway )

Hope you enjoy it.

caykon · 20/01/2009 21:57

I like pretty much anything except seafood. I think thats why I got so big
This is why I m hoping sw is for me as been told there is unlimited free foods that are not just fruit and veg

FairLadyRantALot · 20/01/2009 22:05

lady..that sounds a great and supereasy recipe!]]

caykon, once you are a sw member you can registre with the website, for free, and there are lots of recipes on there!
magazines are fab, too
and if you want to buy books,m go for the paperback once, better value!
But remember, all the recipes will be in the magazines over the years!

some simple general tips...if you want to do a white sauce (lasagna/canneloni/pasta or potato bakes, etc....) do either Quark or greek 0% yoghurt and about 2 eggs for about 2-3 people....,add salt, pepper, herbs, paprika to taste...really creamy and tastes good!

Red days are great for a Sunday, caykon. We sometimes have a full english brunch (unlimited bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and Morrisons Eat-Smart lowfat sausages which are free food, althoug be very careful on sausages as lots are high in syn value) and then a roast dinner in the evening with unlimited meat and veg, potatos as a "B" section and a yorkie pud for 3 syns

I too love my food and I feel miserable if I'm deprived so SW suits me down to the ground. Sure, I miss my chocolate but you can still have it, just count it in your syns for the day.

ladymariner · 20/01/2009 22:15

By the way, remember to stir your stroganoff occasionally, else it will burn. (teaching granny to suck eggs and all that......)

RIAchforthestars · 20/01/2009 22:46

thanks for the new thread. I have been watching you all post for ages now and the dratted thing wouldn't let me

chole - there is an offer on atm that is£9.50 I think to join and your first week, and you would get all the books, so cheaper than ebay. and as someone said, you don't have to go back. You can also register as a shift worker (or your DH as a shift worker which is what I'll have to do when I finally get a night where DH is in for me to go out) so you don't have to go every week and don't have topay for the weeks you don't attend class.

I have lost 4lb since I started (again), but typically am having child-related crisis tonight so have "relaxed" a little for my own peace of mind!

good luck for the Weds weigh-ins!

DesertFairy · 21/01/2009 03:38

Hi, - I'm new here, but starting SW today and already decided to have the stroganoff for dinner tonight!

I've got a few stones to lose (3-4) and due to geography won't be able to attend classes, however I have the books and lost loads (pre-baby) and would love to get back to somewhere near that shape!!!

Wish me luck - and looking forward to talking more. X

ladymariner · 21/01/2009 06:50

Good luck to everyone, let's keep each other going

By the way, I hope you all like that stroganoff, I'll feel awful if you all come back and say it was foul!!!!!!!

FairLadyRantALot · 21/01/2009 13:21

Ria, sounds like you are doing good

DesertFairy...hope you have a good start!

ladymariner, I am sure that stroganoff will be gorgeous Don't think you got anything to worry about!

I lost 2Ibs this week and am very pleased!

Does anyone want the SW lamb rogan josh recipe? I swear it's the best curry I've ever tasted, and dh thought I'd got it from the takeaway the first time I gave him it!

(dh is my guinea-pig !!!!)

ckc · 21/01/2009 20:07

thanks for new thread i lost 6 pound last week but put 1 1/2 on this not very good, ive just tucked into a curry, beer and cake for dh birthday damn why was he born ...x

Tommy · 21/01/2009 20:27

I'll have it ladymariner as long as I can subsitute the lamb for something veggie (don't tell your DH )

ladymariner · 21/01/2009 20:52

Ok, here it is (have to say though that I don't know what you could substitute the lamb for but I'm a dedicated carnivore, so I'm sure you'll have a much beter idea than me!!) :

. 1 - 1 1/2 lb of lamb (or something!)
. 2 large onions
. 3 cloves garlic ( or 2tsps garlic granules if you're like me and fed up of your fingers stinking of garlic)
. 1 celeriac
. fry light
. 2 tsp ground ginger
. 2 cinnamon sticks
. 4 heaped tsps medium curry powder (adapt to taste)
. 2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
. 1 tsp artificial sweetener
. 10fl oz stock

. very low-fat nat yoghurt to serve (never done this bit though!)

Cut the lamb into bite-size pieces, chop the onions, crush the garlic, peel and chunk the celeriac.
Fry-light a pan and brown the lamb for 4-5 mins, remove from pan and keep warm.
Add the onions to the pan, cook till softened. Add the spices, cook 1-2 mins, then add the lamb and curry powder. cok for 2-3 mins. Add everything else (apart from the yoghurt, thats just to pour over if you want when you dish it up) and bring to the boil. Then cover and simmer on lowest heat for 1 and 1/2 hrs to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, till its thick and the meat is really tender.

Hope you enjoy this aswell.
xx

ladymariner · 21/01/2009 20:54

This curry is free on a Red day, by the way, I have loads of it, with rice which I count as a Healthy Extra.

kid · 21/01/2009 23:20

I am here, just found new thread.
Been trying EE this week, it seems too good to be true to be honest but I will know for sure on Friday when I weigh in. Will be gutted if it doesn't work as I could really get used to eating like this!

Will let you know how it goes.

loobyt · 22/01/2009 07:48

well done fairlady!

welcome all newbies!

kid, please can you explain EE to me as the recipes in the mag looked scrumy!!

caykon · 22/01/2009 10:30

ladymariner that recipe sounds delicious. ~I have just one query. I joined class last night and was told rice couldnt be used as a HE. I may be wrong be the consultant really stressed this point to us, not trying to but my nose in but thought it might be worth checking out.
Obviously you can have the curry and rice for 0 syns on an extra easy day
It all sounds so confusing to me
