Does anyone want to play? I'm 5'8, roughly 10 st 6lbs. Suspect possibly a couple of lbs more but refuse to get on the scales at night! Am at my best at about 9 st 7 lbs. Want to lose the weight by healthy sensible eating and plenty of exercise. Does anyone want to join in? Don't really want to crash anyone else's thread!

Was realtively good yesterday - although did have four squares of dark chocolate over the evening

Aparty from that, had my standard breakfast of OJ and mini shredded wheat with a banana, a few clementines over the day, M& S new potato salad, a few brazil nuts and home made tuna pasta (which has loads of sweetcorn, onion and peas in it).

Also had a small glass of sherry - but that's the bottle finished now!

Even better - I got myself to go out for a run mid-week. Only 22 minutes - but that's on top of a 6.2 mile round trip cycle to work, plus 20 minutes brisk walk at lunch time (up to M&S to get my salad), so I am proud of myself

No run today - a Pilates class instead tonight.

Anyway, off to get myself a glass of water, and change out of my cycling gear into my smart work outfit.

prettybird, I am mightily impressed.

Been good today - so far - only a slice of toast. Not too sure about the Thai curry last night - but is was a "Good for you" one only 425 cals, 2 bananas, 2 digestives (well there was this cup of tea and it wanted something dunking into it sorry couldn't resist!). Ham salad roll for lunch and only toast for brekkie. Sound ok? Friday will tell tho!

Have now got to do the ironing in a vigorous manner to burn off a few cals and drinks a few gallons of water. Got a meeting tonight so can't drink too much or I'll end up missing most of it!

Cam · 16/03/2005 11:02

Can I join in, I started yesterday even before seeing this thread today! I'm going to do the same as Bearess in that I won't be following any diet as such, but cutting out the unnecessary and exercising more. I've never dieted in my life (used to be skinny) but since having dd at age of 40, it seems easy to put on weight (could be aging hormones too!) I haven't got any scales at home but I will weigh myself at the gym this afternoon. I might not admit what my weight is but I can feel that I need to lose at least a stone. I'm looking to be kept on the straight and narrow as I want to be at least half a stone lighter by the time I go on holiday to France in less than a month. Easter will be tricky as I've already bought chocs for it!

pindy · 16/03/2005 12:06

Hi Cam - welcome. At least you're going to the gym, I'd rather be there than ironing - not that much has got done yet too busy here.

pindy · 16/03/2005 14:32

Been really good today, ham salad roll and a banana, loads of water (oh dear!) and nothing else. DD is making a cheese and potato pie at school, so depending on the results that could be tea!

Bearess · 16/03/2005 19:23

Help, I am craving roast beef monster munch, haven't had them for about 20 yrs but saw an empty packet on the pavement today (tut) and now fantasising about them, mmmmmm... Thank god Dh is out tonight and I can't go out to buy any!

OP posts:
saintshar · 16/03/2005 21:39

Hi Cam.

Lol Bearess about the monster munch. It is funny what you crave when you are dieting!

Yesterday - fruit for breakfast, pasta with tomatoey sauce for diner - pork loin chops, jacket potatoe and veg for tea. 3 sweets from DS2 - well, he offered and I couldn't say no!
2 cups of tea and 7 glasses of water.

Today - no breakfast - too busy. Ham salad sarnie for dinner, fresh cod, salad potatoes and veg for tea. Good-for-you ice cream. 1 cup of tea so far and 6 glasses of water.

Am dreading weighing myself!

turquoise · 16/03/2005 21:56

Hello everyone.
I can't exercise atm because I seem to put my neck out every time I do, and I'm finding it so so hard to diet without exercising too - it hardly seems worth it somehow. I am trying though, sticking to mainly special K, skimmed milk, lots of green tea and no alcohol.
Made TC's prawns last night, delish but OMG the flatulence! Hope that means it was doing me some good.
Have just had spK, an egg and tomatoe sarnie so far today and a couple of licks of the spoon from making brownies.

nightowl · 16/03/2005 22:08

no breakfast again..no time. but had a couple of coffees, with skimmed milk and sweetener, sugar free pop (baaaad) no water again just cant stand it. have bought some sparkling water though. have been taking the "adios" today too. had a greek salad for lunch (with feta and oregano and a tiny drizzle of oil) its late for tea now but am cooking some asda "good for you" chicken in mushrooms with some tagliateli (spelling crap). had a couple glasses white wine too. its not ideal, but its so much better than what i would usually eat! still havent started the exercise video...maybe tomorrow...!!! (and maybe not). could start my yogalates again i spose aswell. really makes a difference even if it doesnt make me lose weight. good for stress and such like.

Bearess · 16/03/2005 23:10

I think everyone is doing very well! Today I have had all-bran, light cheese spread sarnie, 4 of ds' crisps, 2 jumbo caramel snack-a-jacks, grapes, apple, banana, 1 rich tea biscuit, tea was salmon with wholemeal pasta in a tomato & veggie sauce, some salad & a muller light. I definitely need to drink more water, that's tomorrow's goal. I think I need to get a fitness video as dh goes out a lot after work to schmooze clients (and take them for nice dinners ) which means I can't run or gym - any recommendations?

ThomCat · 16/03/2005 23:12

Oh I'm not playimng this week, I've been supersized rubbish!

I made some white fish with butter beans and grilled tomatoes for tea, decided I couldn't eat it and ordered a pizza! OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bearess · 16/03/2005 23:43

Thomcat, are you still feeling the after-effects of your mammoth all-night session? Of vodka, that is!

OP posts:
Cam · 17/03/2005 08:57

Well I went to the gym yesterday and did 1 hour of continuous exercise: treadmill (even a little bit of running), cross-trainer and swimming. Forgot to get on the scales though, so I'll have to remember to do that when I go tomorrow. No point doing this if I can't measure the results.
I find exercise classes to be the most effective so must get back into them (had an injured toe for a couple of weeks). Food: I've been very controlled for the past two days - except for red wine in the evening. I won't have any tonight though as I have to take dd to a swimming gala. I've always drunk lots of bottled water so can't really up that, have added fruit tea though.

Prettybird · 17/03/2005 09:43

Ver good yesterday

usual breakfast of OJ, minis shredded wheat and banana. Had a couple of clementines over the day and the M&S potato & egg salad for lunch. Did accept one square of Glalaxy chocolate form a colleague though!

A few brazil nuts and two squares of plain chocolate when I got in and then straight off to my Pilates class. Turned down a home made cranberry muffin at my Mum & Dad's (pop in there on my way home from Pilates for a cup of tea) and then home to a bowl of home made (by dh) stilton and celery soup with half a morning roll.

So, proud of myself!

Didin't really have enough water though - need to get back into the habit better.

Girly night out at a friend's tonight though - so no run and I'll probably end of nibbling a lot. But the thought of the weigh in tomorrow might help restrain me!

ThomCat · 17/03/2005 10:08

okay today I'll be good.

had 2 pieces of wholemeal toast and a coffee with a sweetner so far.

lunch is the dinner I couldn't be bothered to have last night - some white fish, (cod and hoki), butter beans with grilled toms and some rocket salad.

Dinner is parmesan chicken with tomatoes and courgettes.

I've got some grapes to snack on.
I will not stray, I will not.

Dom is away this weekend so I won't open any wine and I'll drink home made carrot juice instead.

  • that is a grin through gritted teeth!
decmum · 17/03/2005 10:31

Can I join too....been incredibly good for two weeks now and my clothes are looser. I didn't weigh myself before I started because I know I get really competitive and start to limit what I eat to such an extent that it ceases to be a sustainable situation...you can't eat ryvita and cottage cheese for dinner can you?????

This time my rules are simple....

  1. must have breakfast (cereal),
  2. soup or something low fat for lunch (no bread)
  3. a snack at 6ish to stop me from eating biscuits and a
  4. light dinner as early as possible. I have whatever I've made for everyone else but less and avoid pasta as much as possible.
  5. Oh and given up the booze except Friday and Saturday nights cos I was drinking 3/4 glasses a night which is a legacy from needing to unwind after DS is asleep.

So far I seem to be ok and not constantly thinking about food. Someone mentioned the 'French ladies don't get fat book'...what's the theory behind that?

Bearess · 17/03/2005 10:35

Welcome Cam & decmum. Decmum, I bought the book this week, haven't had the time to open it yet but will report back as soon as I do! There's another thread about it somewhere, let me see if I can find it.

Thanks Bearess...don't you just hate it when the solution is simply smug moderation!
Makes me feel old when I think about the days when I was Bridget Jones and not sensible and moderate about anything.

Bearess · 17/03/2005 10:58

hmmmmmm, exactly, I have large areas of concern because I am going to Leeds for hen-do this weekend (no dh! no ds! Much as I love them to distraction, YESSSSSSSSS!!!) Just know I will get hideously drunk and undo all this week's good work!

Hi everyone!!
Happy st patricks day to you all!!

Only good thing i've done is going to the gym tues and wed but ate for ireland....
Is there any hope for me at all???

Prettybird · 17/03/2005 13:08

... yes there is hope. Otherwise you wouldn't be posting on this thread!

Bearess · 17/03/2005 15:31

The dress has arrived, tight round tummy, loose round boobs!

OP posts:
Prettybird · 17/03/2005 16:25

Is it loose around the boobs because it is tight around the tummy? ie becasue it can't "skim" your tummy?

If so, you still have time.....!

Also, if you're desparate and have the time/monet, why not try a Contour Body Wrap. I've had a series of three (for most effect) twice - first set in the run up to the Junior Chamber World Congress in Glasgow, as a cuple fo the dresses that mum had made me for the formal dos were a bit, shall we say, on the neat side, and the second time in the run up to my wedding. Seemed to work for me
