Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend

Like lots of us I want to try and lose weight in the new year and would really like to have someone to do this with, swap ideas, how the day has gone etc. I am thinking of using the intermittent fasting method and have 2 stone to lose. Is there anyone who would be interested in a weight loss buddy / friend to engage with?

Hi wayto, I'm also determined to lose some weight, would love to be your buddy. I've two stone to lose too. I've tried IF before, so will give it a go again.

Do you calorie count as well?

hairymotherplucker · 29/12/2024 00:28

Me!

way2serious · 29/12/2024 07:57

Thanks both. I am not starting until the new year and am going to have to put away the boxes and boxes of chocolate!

@Daffyducklet yes I will be calorie counting as well and starting at the gym again. I haven’t done IF before so it will be good to have an experienced buddy!

Can I join? I’d say I have around 2 stone (def at least 1.5) to lose too. Also not starting until Jan 2nd.

i plan to start couch to 10K and do some online fitness sessions plus completely cut alcohol and just try to eat better (body coach recipes etc) but relax the eating dinner time on weekends.

We go to corfu at start May so my aim is for then - I don’t want to be the fat mum round the pool(!) and just generally feel very unhealthy/shit about myself at the moment. I also have high blood pressure so it should help with that.

way2serious · 29/12/2024 08:21

@Christmasgonk Good to have you on board!

we used to belong to a gym and I used to run half an hour in a treadmill daily but our memberships lapsed and the gym has now closed. So we are off to look at a new one today and hopefully sign up.

i don’t drink really but my weakness is definitely sugar and carbs so i know I really need to reduce these. I don’t eat salad so struggle with healthy packed lunches as well.

I've started already, because I've nothing special planned for New Year except maybe a couple of drinks on New Year's eve.

I've managed to fast for 16 hours for two days. I've not eaten differently to usual really, maybe a little less.

Gizmosgremlins · 29/12/2024 21:58

Can I join you, please? I have 3 stone to lose but would be delighted with 2.

My sugar and alcohol consumption is out of control so I'm aiming for a tee-total January and much much healthier eating, sleeping and excercise habits. So, basically all the extreme things they say you should not attempt in January.

Company would be great!

marmitegirl01 · 29/12/2024 22:06

If looking at IF too. Never thought about it before but it seems to appeal right now. Think I have chronic inflammation so hoping this will help and with incessant snacking too 🤞🏻
Started today to give myself an eating window and get used to that 14:10 today. Aiming to get to 16:8. When comfortable with that will look at foods etc.
how are you gonna tackle it?

Piglet89 · 29/12/2024 23:26

I have a stone and a half to lose and am definitely interested in being your buddy!

HolyGrailSeeker · 29/12/2024 23:39

Can I join too? Went on the scales two days ago and it was horrifying. 80kg.

I’m cutting out chocolate and alcohol, trying to do intermittent fasting 16:8 and also weighing myself every morning. I’d love to lose 3 stone / 20kg.

I’ve already started.Today and yesterday I managed all 3 things. Hoping to see a result on the scales tomorrow (even if only 0.1kg!)

Sweetbeansandmochi · 29/12/2024 23:43

Hello, please can I join. I need to lose two stone.

I am also a sad sack because I can’t imagine it really happening. So I want to but I am skeptical that anything will work for me. I am starting a fitness challenge in mid Jan - so I do have a plan. I also know I don’t have to believe I can lose weight - I have to just do the actions every day.

HolyGrailSeeker · 30/12/2024 08:16

77.55kg this morning! Of course it’s all water weight that’s come off and not yet actual fat loss but it’s still a nice start to the day.

2.45kg down / 17.55kg to go.

Stopped eating by 7.30pm so can eat again from 11.30am today.

Going to go for a 45min walk after I’ve given the kids breakfast.

Piglet89 · 30/12/2024 08:17

Great work @HolyGrailSeeker !

I'm starting 1 Jan, so will do the dreaded weigh-in then.

We can do this!!!

HolyGrailSeeker · 30/12/2024 09:57

Thanks @Piglet89!

So I did my 45min walk - hooray!

I’m now trying to ignore the gnawing hunger feeling whilst I feed the toddler a snack and not eat any of it myself. I also have to guard older child’s partially eaten snack for the next 3 hours and not eat any of it or allow it to be thrown away. Kids are putting me through a baptism of fire! Yesterday they kept trying to share their chocolate with me.

I’m amazed my willpower is lasting. I’m really hoping this thread and having others to check in with daily will help keep me on this. I’m so good at starting these things but never manage to keep on them. But I can’t continue to gain weight like I have been. This is really important.

We can do this!

Acolite · 30/12/2024 10:02

Hi. Can I join?
Want to lose in the region of 2-2.5 stone.
I’ve been successful losing weight previously, but am even better putting it back on again. I need to not become obsessed about it as that’s when i crash and burn, so I’m going to try and trick myself that I’m not really trying to lose weight. 😁
I’m going to try and stick to 3 meals a day - no snacking, no seconds, no pudding except on a Sunday. Plus get active. We have a dog, so often walk 3-5 miles 3 or 4 times a week. On top of that, will exercise at least 5 times a week.

Also going to start on 1st January, but well done @HolyGrailSeeker for a fab start.

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 10:02

Hi all. Can I join please? I lost 9kg this year (from April to Aug) and then spent the rest of the year maintaining. Decided I want to lose the other half now and started on 27th Dec. So far have lost 1,5lbs but could really do with a thread where I can post and keep accountable! 😊

Gizmosgremlins · 30/12/2024 10:09

@HolyGrailSeeker you summed it up very nicely there...this is important and we can do it 😊.

HolyGrailSeeker · 30/12/2024 10:17

@Showmethefood 9kg down already is amazing and congratulations on maintaining for 4 months. I’ll be coming to you for tips!

I ignored the gnawing hunger feeling and it has gone away thank god.

Rubyred3 · 30/12/2024 10:17

Hi
I would like to join too. Have around a stone and a half to lose.

Plan to do it through high protein/ low carb/ low UPF, but also want to cut down on alcohol and increase exercise.

A group support thread would be really helpful!

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 10:21

Thanks @HolyGrailSeeker I found eating healthy for 5 days and then eating what I wanted for 2 really helped me maintain. It’s nice to find a thread to check in daily on- as it can all feel a bit difficult/isolating at times!

katcha87 · 30/12/2024 12:02

Hi all, I'd love to join in if you'll have me.
I had a rough run up to Christmas (a miscarriage at 7wks) and I have pretty much eaten my feelings since!

I need to loose about 2 stone I think (don't have the courage to face the scales yet!). I'm going to start in the new year as I know the next few days will be food and drink heavy.
Planning on using my fitness pal to calorie track and to start moving my body again, I'd be chuffed just to hit 10k steps a day again. Thinking of doing 16:8 also, and I need to focus on getting a better nights sleep.

Looking forward to a bit of a support network.

AmazingGraze · 30/12/2024 12:04

I’ll join. I need to lose three stone. I’m going to use MFP and take more exercise.

Jumell · 30/12/2024 12:56

Me OP - I've got loads of weight to lose

socks1107 · 30/12/2024 13:15

I'll join. I did well last year being part of a group like this so hoping for another two stone this year

Gizmosgremlins · 30/12/2024 16:17

I've just ordered some spearmint tea and cinnamon tea, plus some Fast 800 shakes. I'm going to try and be very strict for first week as I find that if I give myself decisions and options then I end up going off track. Hopefully strict and no decisions will work to get me started. I'll still have one proper healthy meal eaxh day.
