Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend

Like lots of us I want to try and lose weight in the new year and would really like to have someone to do this with, swap ideas, how the day has gone etc. I am thinking of using the intermittent fasting method and have 2 stone to lose. Is there anyone who would be interested in a weight loss buddy / friend to engage with?

Afternoon all. @HolyGrailSeeker get well soon. You’re also right about making sure your body gets the right nutrients etc. I’m 0.3kg down today. Yesterday evening I was really hungry and still had some wiggle room for calories so I had an extra healthy snack. I thought to myself “I don’t have to starve - yet I don’t have to binge.” Trying to hold onto those thoughts. If I allow myself to get too hungry I’m not looking after myself and I’m more likely to binge. Onwards and upwards to forming healthy habits! :)

Piglet89 · 04/01/2025 13:13

@Acolite OMAD is definitely a big challenge (particularly after all the over indulgence over these holidays), so I've decided to relax it at the weekend (more by accident than by design as accidentally had omelette and pancake for breakfast this morning). Won't eat anything substantial until this evening, though.

way2serious · 04/01/2025 13:14

Hi everyone. It sounds as though you are all doing really well on your different programmes and journeys. I have definitely made some positive changes too - gym every day, no snacking and 16:8.
is anyone getting headaches? I have had one every morning and had to take tablets. It has generally eased off during the day but didn’t know if this was normal at the beginning?

Poppercorn · 04/01/2025 13:39

Starting new years day: 78kg
Today: 76.8kg

Counting calories using Nutracheck app and trying to move more.

Poppercorn · 04/01/2025 13:42

Yes I have a headache today too! Didn't make the connection to this tbh.

spackleplumb · 04/01/2025 13:44

Weighed today at 11st 2lbs so feeling like things are starting to get back on track again after Christmas. Back on my calorie counting and it's going well. I lost my first 6 stone by sticking rigidly to 1000-1200 calories using my fitness pal to track. Upped to 1300-1400 now and happy for a more slow paced weight loss at this point. I'm surprised so many people are doing IF and OMAD seems unsustainable to me but it's good to see everyone doing their own thing Smile I've cut out cheese, crisps, cake, chocolates, dairy, alcohol, bread, pasta, pizza and biscuits- all the foods that aggravate my gallbladder basically. Determined to get this last 20lbs off Blush

GildedRage · 04/01/2025 17:27

@Poppercorn it's nice to see the scale move. some movement over here but only starting day 4 so i'll post tomorrow and every sunday thereafter. i'm still logging on cronometer (similar to nutracheck) and taking multivites to ensure i'm not missing out on more than calories.
@way2serious yes head aches initially are common, i've not experienced that yet with this keto plan. but total calorie wise i'm close to what i would consider my maintenance calories 12-1300.
and like you @spackleplumb when cc, i too stick closer to the 1000-1200 range.
my "exercise" is still minimal out of laziness (although doing 8K steps daily).
upped my fluids significantly.

Glenthebattleostrich · 04/01/2025 17:40

Hello, I'm very late to the party but please can I join? I lost 25lb last year (well 30 but put 5 back on over Christmas).

I'm on day 7 of 10000 + steps per day (aiming for 30 days, then going month by months but would love to manage a year of it). Day 2 of low carb, keeping an eye on calories.

Weighed in at 194lb this morning with a 38 inch waist. Aiming for 36lb loss before I go on holiday in July and an 8 inch loss from waist.

The plan is 3 exercise classes per week - circuits, legs bums and tums and dance/zumba along with walking 2 miles per day on top of usual everyday steps. I use public transport so can build the walks into my commute.

I have a list of treats planned for every 6lb I lose. 1st being a proper pedicure, then brows done properly (thread and tint), then lash lift and tint, facial, massage then some lovely new clothes.

GildedRage · 05/01/2025 03:16

mostly on plan but i had to improvise for a lack of mascarpone...the plan comes with a shopping list which is very generic YET each day there is a random item that really needs to be on the shopping list along with missing marscapone i was missing sliced ham and i see blue cheese coming up soon.
i got in a good walk certainly met my water goal.
i'm can sense i'm irritable and might just tuck myself in bed (it's barely 7pm).

NerrSnerr · 05/01/2025 13:44

Weighed in at 12 2 yesterday which is. 3lb loss (obvs still water weight, but nice to see the scales going down. Going to do my first spin class in a long time today- it may kill me but it does the job with burning calories.

Feels like I'm seeing stuff about weight loss injections everywhere. I'm really determined to lose this weight without but maybe if it doesn't work I may need to consider it. Completely understand why people use them and they look amazing but I'm already on a load of meds I just don't want to add to it. Feels reassuring that there is something I can turn to in the future if needed though.

anicecuppateaa · 05/01/2025 18:46

I’m finding it hard already. Started 2 Jan and have been having 2 meals a day usually following 16:8. I’ve done more exercise, no sweet treats and tried to up my water intake.

But

I feel so tired and miserable (sugar withdrawal maybe?). So much of my socialising is around meeting for dinner/ drinks/ cafes.

I’m hoping tomorrow’s weigh in will cheer me up….

GildedRage · 05/01/2025 20:10

@anicecuppateaa its not easy, maybe smaller meals during your window?
well done @NerrSnerr , it’s progress and the whole process is water weight. The number of fat cells you have, you’ve had since conception. but based on foods/hormone interaction they swell and retain water. so unless surgery/lipo you never loose fat cells, and all weight loss is water loss. keep up the good work, and don’t minimize your efforts.

LuckyMauveReader · 05/01/2025 22:21

Today, I really didn't want to go out. There is no snow here, but it has been raining most of the day and is quite windy. I'd put it off and persuaded myself I'd leave it for today. But after dinner, I went. It was only short, not quite 5k steps.

I went out fully prepared with a hat, gloves, and scarf, yet the weather was mild. By the time I got home, I was sweating cobs. Seeing the news I thought it'd be baltic.

This week I'm cancelling my Netflix and getting a gym membership. Luckily there's no joining fee and you can pay just for the month without the rolling contract. I'm going to see how I stick to exercising and if it is successful I will get another one in Feb.

Well done to everyone so far.

SavvySquid · 06/01/2025 01:20

I am doing the water challenge for Jan. I'm allowing myself tea and coffee and just water. No fizzy, fruit juice or alcohol.

I find a lot of calories are easily consumed with drinks.

I had a similar day today. Woke up and weather was miserable. Waited for the rain to stop which ended up being 10pm and took dog for a 30 minute walk.

Ecci · 06/01/2025 09:51

Starting today with a weight of 177.8 lbs. My initial aim is to lose 5 lbs in the next 4 weeks. I'll be following a reduced fat and carb way of eating, mostly fruit and veg, and being calorie aware. I use an app called MyNetDiary to record everything I eat as I've found that helpful in the past. It also counts calories for you. I used this method successfully to lose 5 stone a few years ago but over the last year I've put on nearly 2 stone and it's got to go.
It's enormously helpful to read everyone's successes. We can do this.

NerrSnerr · 06/01/2025 10:16

Thanks @GildedRage. You're right- I have been working hard for the loss.

It's the last day of the holidays for us so have an active day with the children planned but not doing any specific exercise as resting after yesterday's spin class.

spackleplumb · 06/01/2025 10:23

I'm starting this week at 156lbs. Back on track with my calorie counting and food diary. Hoping school being back and routine recommencing will help things feel easier.

GildedRage · 06/01/2025 17:00

Starting the week at 170.2. Down 4.8 lbs since Jan1.
I’ll continue with the fb/app that I found, I suppose the volume of veg makes up for the almost lack of fruit. The past 2 days have had very uninspiring “meals” but I’m not hungry.
dh isn’t coping that well with having to occasionally fend for himself, he does but his meal choices are subpar.

sfraxx · 06/01/2025 17:10

Hello!

I'm jumping in here, but I started my "diet" today.

I, too, am looking for someone to keep me on track and cheer each other on and someone who knows how hard it is lol.

My starting weight today is 13st10.09lbs.

My goal is to be 11st or as close too as possible for the 20th of May.

All my friends are using mounjaro and I just want to try and do it myself first. The horror stories give me the fear🥺

Xx

way2serious · 06/01/2025 22:42

Hi @everyone how are you all doing?

I am managing 16:8 ok but my water intake needs to increase. I have done a few gym sessions. I haven’t weighed myself yet. I am trying to eat more healthily and fewer snacks, less chocolate etc but not convinced it is having any impact yet.

OP posts:
GildedRage · 06/01/2025 23:46

@way2serious it's not easy stepping on the scale. is there a reason you've not? a close friend at the start of her health journey had someone else write down the weight and tell her if it was going down. she eventually felt able to look herself.

Piglet89 · 08/01/2025 07:12

Weigh-in morning. Really not confident my scales are right as the reading seems to change slightly every time I step onto them, but I'll take this for now.

Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend
Rimtimtagidimdim · 09/01/2025 08:59

86.5kg today, so 1.7kg down in week 1.

Not really sure how TBH as have slipped with the 16:8 a couple of times and had breakfast (I find it really difficult staying over at someone else's house and resisting when they're making food for everyone).

Maybe just cutting down the booze calories from Christmas? But am determined to do a proper fast today 💪

Indierocknroller · 10/01/2025 08:53

Hi, can I join you please?

I lost around 4 stone between summer 23 and 24, but fell off the rails this winter and put nearly a stone back on! 🙈 Would really love to get myself back on track and lose the last couple of stone I need to get to a healthy weight.

I am not going on a strict diet but am going to try and get back into healthy habits, focussing on eating well and moving more. I will weigh in on Wednesdays.

I (re)started on 1st Jan weighing 12st 8lbs.

Start weight: 12st 8lbs
Goal Weight:10st
Current weight: 12st 4.5lbs

Good luck, everyone 🙂

GreenMarigold · 10/01/2025 12:21

1lb down after 1 week. I have to say I haven’t been as strict as I’d like but I’ve definitely been having fewer snacks, which has to be moving in the right direction.

I’ve done my 10k steps every day but really need to work out how to fit more exercise into my day. I might start trying to do a few star jumps every hour when working from home!
