Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend

Like lots of us I want to try and lose weight in the new year and would really like to have someone to do this with, swap ideas, how the day has gone etc. I am thinking of using the intermittent fasting method and have 2 stone to lose. Is there anyone who would be interested in a weight loss buddy / friend to engage with?

When do you guys weigh? Daily? Weekly? Or do you go more on measurements? At the moment I’m doing daily as I’m interested in the fluctuations - but totally understand that can become obsessive and not helpful to everyone 😊

HolyGrailSeeker · 30/12/2024 16:57

@Showmethefood I’m weighing daily because I find that helps keep me on track, but I also know that I do not have any history of disordered eating so it will be fine for me to do that.

I slipped up and had chocolate. But it was only one square rather than my usual ⅓ bar so that’s ok and I forgive myself and we move the f* on.

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 17:09

@HolyGrailSeeker I’ve also had chocolate in a healthy amount so I know it will be ok. 😊

Piglet89 · 30/12/2024 18:58

@Showmethefood I intend to weigh every Wednesday morning starting NY day 2025.

socks1107 · 30/12/2024 19:29

I tend to weigh daily and plot it on mfp so I can see where it drops

way2serious · 30/12/2024 20:36

Wow! Great to have so many of you on board! Well done to those of you who have already started. I will be starting on Thursday both on the food and the exercise front. I am a bit worried about the hunger pangs and how to stay strong and not give in to them.

Those of you who have done the IF approach before, do you have anything other than water before you have your first ‘meal’?

@way2serious I'm also worried about the hunger pangs. Or actually, probably more accurately the sugar and alcohol pangs. I've had far too much of both for too long so cold turkey is going to be tough. I need to mentally prepare myself for handling the desire to cave and have a bit of a plan for how to get through it.

Gizmosgremlins · 30/12/2024 20:48

I know myself well enough now that I know if I give myself an inch I take a mile so at least for 6 weeks in an attempt to break my habits, I'm going to have to be strict with myself. I have a big holiday in February so that throws in some additional motivation/pressure.

I think I'll weigh every day.

anicecuppateaa · 30/12/2024 21:10

Can I join please? I have never been into new year diets, but am at my heaviest weight ever. I had a tfmr just before Christmas and want to feel better about my body.

My main issue is time, so I tend to go for sugary/ quick foods or takeaways.

I would love to lose 10kgs. I am going to try cutting out sugar and doing 16:8. I am also going to try to exercise every day I am not doing IF. Maybe completely unrealistic…

I will do a weigh in on wed am, then sat am. I think seeing progress will help with motivation.

Rumandcoke41 · 30/12/2024 21:13

Can I join too please?

I have at least 2 stone to lose, possibly 3...the scales will tell me tomorrow at the gym 😬
I don't have scales at home but might invest in some.

Starting 1st Jan, I'll be mainly calorie counting using my fitness pal and going to the gym X3 a week.
This time last year I was walking 15000 steps a day and slowly I got out of the habit so want to get back on track with that too.
My main struggle is the food though! I love food and love to eat so need to start tracking again and be mindful of what I'm eating!!

Hopefully this thread will keep my motivation and hold me accountable too!

Good luck everyone!

HolyGrailSeeker · 30/12/2024 21:18

@way2serious i think you are allowed any drinks so long as it’s basically 0 calories. So herbal teas, black tea and coffee, etc.

I eat when I’m stressed (chocolate) or bored. Managed to stop eating by 8.10pm tonight so tomorrow I can eat from 12.10pm. Probably should have finished eating earlier though.

Just need to keep seeing results on the scale, no matter how small and I think I’ll be able to keep going. Every 0.01kg off (the smallest amount my scale measures) is a step in the right direction.

LuckyMauveReader · 30/12/2024 21:20

Hi there all!

I'd like to join too, please.

I do have weight to lose but this time I really know I shouldn't get hung up on the number on a scale. It is important for me I think just to keep focussed on better health/healthier foods etc.

My focus wanes so all the encouragement, even from just reading this page, will be massive. That's not to say I won't contribute etc but signing up for the bare minimum to alleviate any undue pressure I place on myself.

Ideally, I would like to drop a few dress sizes and feel fitter and more confident. You guys, despite being remote, will be a great deal of inspiration to me.

Wishing you all a healthier and happier 2025! All the best for the New Year.

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 23:23

A big problem I have at times is allowing myself to get too hungry, not having the patience to cook, and then ordering a take away 🤦‍♀️. So I’m trying to be in tune with my body’s hunger , to prevent that from happening this time.

JustBeach · 30/12/2024 23:27

Me! I'd like to lose around 2 stone and then see how I feel. I'm 5ft3 and around 11stone (possibly more!)
I'm going to weigh in on the 2nd. I plan to do OMAD and go back to the gym.

XiCi · 30/12/2024 23:30

Can I join? Another with 2 Stone to lose. I'll be calorie counting, trying to lower carbs & raise protein and doing daily exercise. Have really over indulged this Xmas!

SavvySquid · 30/12/2024 23:41

@way2serious do you use MyFitnessPal. If so I am happy to add you as a friend - it's always good to have encouragement!

Tiredeyes2024 · 30/12/2024 23:44

I would love to join. I have at least 2 stone to drop. Stressful job, young children and a lack of discipline are some of my issues. I am 40 in June and would love to feel happy and confident. This Christmas I have felt horrible in clothes but just keeping sticking my nose in the fridge/sweet tin/ cupboard. I’m planning on no alcohol, eating well with healthy snacks, plenty of water and run x 3 times per week. Hope we can all motivate each other

Rimtimtagidimdim · 30/12/2024 23:45

I think I need to join too, hopefully having some accountability and moral support will make me stick at it!

My main problem is a lack of exercise due to working from home and the constant access to the kitchen (lethal alongside work boredom). I can pretend the weight gain isn't too bad but candid Christmas photos don't lie, unfortunately 😆

Will be back to weigh in on the 2nd!

SavvySquid · 30/12/2024 23:52

This afternoon I worked from home and didn't move much, after dinner of chicken stir fry I asked my partner if that fancied a ..... walk around the block 4km later we arrived home. Felt so much better for getting out.

RedRock41 · 31/12/2024 05:55

Another one for the Tubby Club 🙋‍♀️… 2025 be our year ladies.

Nettleteaser101 · 31/12/2024 06:06

I'd like to join up too. Starting on 1st Jan. Happy New Year everyone and hoping Happy New You.

We walk every evening! It's the way to stay sane as my dh works from home.
The only days we don't walk is the ones we are at the gym. It's so good for us. Well done on doing yours

SavvySquid · 31/12/2024 08:57

@socks1107 we are going to try exactly this! Walk on the evenings we don't go to the gym.
Just having my breakfast of oats, banana and honey!

HolyGrailSeeker · 31/12/2024 09:20

Morning all,

Weighing in at 77.15kg this morning, so 2.85kg down and 17.15kg to go.

I haven’t managed to go for a walk yet today, but I want to at least do that. I can eat from 12.10pm, so less than 3 hours to go.

Happy last day of feasting to all those starting tomorrow!

Showmethefood · 31/12/2024 10:10

@HolyGrailSeeker well done ☺️. You’re off to a good start. I weighed in this morning. Another 0.1kg off. Making a grand total of 0.8kg off so far. Looking like at the end of the week it should be around 2 pound loss ❤️
