Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend

Like lots of us I want to try and lose weight in the new year and would really like to have someone to do this with, swap ideas, how the day has gone etc. I am thinking of using the intermittent fasting method and have 2 stone to lose. Is there anyone who would be interested in a weight loss buddy / friend to engage with?

Well done on your loss @HolyGrailSeeker . Down 0.3kg since yesterday- so happy with that. I’ll post weekly loss on Friday as that’s when I started last week but so far have lost 2.4lbs altogether ☺️

Ecci · 01/01/2025 12:27

I'd like to join you all. Weight this morning is 175.6 lbs. I need to lose at least 25.
6 years ago I lost 5 stone but over the last year I've put on nearly 2 stone. About 7 lbs up since the beginning of December. I've been a proper greedy guts over Christmas.
I'm going to start properly on Monday as we've got people coming for lunch today, tomorrow I'm having a medical procedure and won't be up to doing food prep for a few days and there's no point asking DH to prepare the sort of food I want to eat. So will try to eat less until then and get started properly on the 6th.
Good luck to everyone.

HolyGrailSeeker · 01/01/2025 14:28

Well Done @Showmethefood that’s another great daily loss! 👏

Somehow managed to push through with fast until Midday (just over 18hours), so I’m hoping the scales tomorrow will reflect some change even though I have basically just sat on the sofa for 2 days. I’m not accurately counting calories right now because I find it quite difficult to do, but if the weight loss stalls then I will start to.

Good luck to everyone starting today/tomorrow.
We can do this!

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 14:50

@Ecci I’ve had successful years as well. Then (like now) when it creeps up and up.
i like food, especially calorie dense nuts and cheese.
i expect it will be harder as I’m older.

Grumpy19 · 01/01/2025 15:41

Hello, please can I join? I have about 4 1/2 stone to loose😫
I've started the Fast800 diet today!

TheUndoing · 01/01/2025 16:17

Hello, can I join please? About 1.5 stone to loose from my pregnancy last year. Ate a hideous amount over Christmas and keen to start eating sensibly in January.

I’ve had vegetable soup and a couple of crispbreads thus far, and am planning meatballs for dinner (without the pasta I would normally have them with).

Bex268 · 01/01/2025 16:44

I’ve never had to diet before and I’m finding it so hard but the weight just keeps coming on and I’m quite short! I’ve put on almost two stone now. Desperate to not keeping letting it escalate but obsessed with full sugar coke and chocolate 😭 literally can’t give the coke up! Could the chocolate though. I’m 40, maybe that has been the change. I’d love to join.

LuckyMauveReader · 01/01/2025 16:54

Just a small tip I was given which I found useful last time I lost weight.

If you drink a cup of warm water in the morning when you wake up and before you eat drink anything else. It helps, apparently, to cleanse your organs etc for the day ahead.

The advice on the benefits is widely discussed on the internet.

I felt it helped me so I have restarted this in an attempt to help with weight loss/

Christmasgonk · 01/01/2025 16:57

Weighed myself this morning and am 11st 6. At 5ft 4 it is not a good look for me. Not dieting today but starting tomorrow. Hoping to get up at 0530 and start C210K. Would love to get down to a smidge under 10 stone if I could.

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 17:37

i've weighted in and am shocked that i'm 175 lbs
the app i'm using did make meal planning easy
BUT i took the time to double check the calorie count with another program i use and i needed to adjust some items (the amount of eggs).
it's only the start of the day over here.

Tiredeyes2024 · 01/01/2025 21:07

Weigh in this morning, an all time high of 12 stone 3 at 5ft 4 it doesn’t suit me. Nothing fits and I hate it, had a busy New Year’s Day with a family meal. Had a few drinks and some cheese but haven’t gone overboard and motivated to have a great Jan.

socks1107 · 01/01/2025 21:35

I'm 5:4 and weigh 13st 11! Although that is much less than last year.
Back on my calorie count and have started doing a short weight lift routine at home to help me tone and stay healthy in my menopause

I love full sugar coke too! I always calorie count it.
I've found the new huel fizzy drinks this week so am hoping to switch over

Ecci · 01/01/2025 22:51

@GildedRage I'm quite annoyed with myself for letting it happen. I know how hard it was to do. I'm an old girl too.

Bex268 · 01/01/2025 22:56

Are we all starting tomorrow? @socks1107 i swear the stuff is seriously addictive 🫣😭

HolyGrailSeeker · 02/01/2025 06:27

Morning everyone

I’ve had my first fluctuation on the scale
77.00kg this morning, up 0.2kg on yesterday. 😔
It’s frustrating but of course it was going to happen at some point.

A sobering reminder that:
a) fluctuations happen
b) snacking (even within eating window) is calories I didn’t need
c) sitting on the sofa for 2 days is not the fastest way to lose weight.
d) my cycle makes my weight fluctuate too

Still, I am
3.00kg down / 17.00kg to go

Good luck to all those starting today, you can do it!

GreenMarigold · 02/01/2025 08:35

Remembered to weigh myself this morning. 10st 0.6lb. I’d kept under 10st all Christmas so frustrated I let it slip at the end!

My muscles are aching from the short workout I did yesterday so it must have done something!

Hope everyone else has a good day!

Showmethefood · 02/01/2025 09:27

@HolyGrailSeeker fluctuations are completely normal like you say (especially when you weigh every day like we do). You’re still doing great ⭐! I’ve stayed the same today.

Total loss since 27/12/2024- 1.1kg.

We can do this. Have a good day everyone ❤️

Acolite · 02/01/2025 09:29

So, remember I said I’d try to weigh once a month? Yeah, well, no. 😂
Down 0.9lbs, would be nice if that were a daily thing, but I’ll take the nice first week drop. If i get obsessed with t the scales, i might have to put them in a cupboard somewhere, or get DH to hide them.
Braved the weather yesterday and went for a walk. Took MIL with us, who is in her 80’s, so only did a slow short walk (2.5miles in just over an hour) but good to get moving. We’ll go out shortly for a longer walk and I’ve cleared some space in the “playroom” so might get the rowing machine out later.
@HolyGrailSeeker that’s a great start. The app i use smoothes the weigh loss out to give a weekly average, which if I am going to weigh daily helps me cope with the fluctuations.
Welcome on board all those starting today.

Showmethefood · 02/01/2025 09:30

Well done @Acolite . Amazing start ⭐. Know what you mean about the scales becoming obsessive though 🙈 I’m trying very firmly to fight that battle myself.

TotemPolly · 02/01/2025 09:31

I'm in , day 1 yesterday , I have many stones to lose , and at the moment burying my head in the sand of not wanting to know my exact weight .
So hello , but sorry won't be weighing in for a month or so .

Wallabyone · 02/01/2025 09:48

Hi everyone,
My weight has crept up and I'd like to lose 16-20lbs.
I'm just having a coffee and thinking about how best to do this.

NerrSnerr · 02/01/2025 09:50

Day one completed yesterday. Didn't eat too badly and weigh 12st4 this morning so first lb off (it's always nice at the start when the water weight comes off!!)

Hoping to get a good start over the next couple of weeks to get into the 11s.

YearsofYears · 02/01/2025 09:55

Today is day one for me. Would like to lose 12kg over the year.
I use the NHS calorie counting app and had some success with that last year. In general, I built up good habits last year, it's just sticking to them.
Drinking is a real achilles heel for me so that is something I will have to do very infrequently for the year ahead.
I bought an exercise bike yesterday.

katcha87 · 02/01/2025 11:00

Thanks @Acolite.

I'm simular in that I get a bit obsessed with the scales and unfortunately despite knowing better can allow it to dictate my mood.
I have however braved standing on them to get a starting point and reality check (I think the bloody thing even groaned as I got on) anyway .....

I'd love to loose 2 stone but will be breaking it down into half stones so it's a bit less daunting. I'm setting no time frame and I am starting today on the food front anyway. Will attempt to weigh every 2nd Monday, I'll keep that bit under review, I might try to just go by how I am feeling!
Best of luck all, I know a lot are starting out today!
