Looking for a weight loss buddy and friend

Like lots of us I want to try and lose weight in the new year and would really like to have someone to do this with, swap ideas, how the day has gone etc. I am thinking of using the intermittent fasting method and have 2 stone to lose. Is there anyone who would be interested in a weight loss buddy / friend to engage with?

Think I might actually have to by some scales ... does anyone else go my tape measuring instead of weighing

Thoughts

Morning all, great to see so many people.
@katcha87 sorry to hear about your tough time 💐

I’m debating how often to weigh. I have previously used a daily weighing app which smoothes out the fluctuations, however I can get a bit obsessed. I may actually see if I can go a month without weighing, but don't know if I can do that. I think, for me, weighing weekly is the worst as one bad weigh in can demoralise me for the next week and result in a sod it attitude.
Whatever I do, I’m going to weigh, measure and photograph in the morning.

I do both, can be good to see inches reducing even when the scales ares stuck/ slow (hopefully)

Also, I have made a weight loss photo album on my phone and will take pictures of my progress every week. It’s helpful to see a physical change as well as a numerical one I think 😊

Poppercorn · 31/12/2024 11:43

I'll join too please! Got at least 2 stone to lose but I'd be amazed if I lose half a stone tbh. I am type 1 diabetic and really struggle to lose weight.

Showmethefood · 31/12/2024 10:10

@HolyGrailSeeker well done ☺️. You’re off to a good start. I weighed in this morning. Another 0.1kg off. Making a grand total of 0.8kg off so far. Looking like at the end of the week it should be around 2 pound loss ❤️

That’s fantastic!! Keep it up! ❤️
I think I’ve lost a load of water weight/excess food. You know how much these things can vary with your cycle. My abdomen seems a lot smaller which is nice 😊

Me! I'd like to lose around 2 stone and then see how I feel. I'm 5ft3 and around 11stone (possibly more!)
I'm going to weigh in on the 2nd. I plan to do OMAD and go back to the gym.

Sorry if this is really obvious, but what is OMAD?

BelleSauvage9 · 31/12/2024 13:31

Would like to join please!

Been feeling very uncomfortable recently, clothes getting tighter and finally weighed myself today - 13stone1.

3 years ago I was 16 stone, got down to 11.5 but have now gained back 1.5 :(

I've been letting myself eat and drink whatever I want and not been exercising so need to get back on track! Not sure what approach to take this time. I lost most of the weight by being dairy free as ds had cmpa. Wonder whether to do that again, but I don't have the same motivation to stick to it this time round! Maybe keto? I think I find it a bit easier to cut out a food group rather than just trying to moderate. But it's also slightly harder to cut out a food group when you're cooking for your family isn't it. I find IF fairly easy to stick to as I don't eat breakfast anyway.

Goal weight is 10 stone, so 3 to lose..

GiraffeGlee · 31/12/2024 15:45

Can I join you please? I need to loose 2 stone, planning on starting tomorrow

Showmethefood · 31/12/2024 18:34

Today has been ok. Had a lovely bit of beef with potatoes and vegetables for dinner and am feeling content and comfortable. Hoping for another loss tomorrow 🤞

way2serious · 31/12/2024 20:43

@SavvySquid I haven’t used myfitnesspal before but have down loaded it and logged in. How would I add you as a friend?

I’d love to join. I’ve fallen into such bad habits and badly need to cut all the snacks.

I’m at the high point of my healthy weight range at present (10st) and I’d be so happy to lose a stone.

Tiredeyes2024 · 31/12/2024 21:00

Starting properly on 2 Jan but will weigh in tomorrow morning. Have a nice meal and a few drinks planned but have a healthy shop in and meal plan for rest of week. Good luck all!

Daffyducklet · 01/01/2025 01:41

I definitely have to get to grips with losing weight. I've been out tonight and hated the way I look. I've no nice clothes and everything I do have makes me look matronly. On the plus side I didn't drink or eat much and walked miles! I'll weigh in in the morning and really need to stick to it this time.

GildedRage · 01/01/2025 04:50

I’d like to join in. A solid 30lbs to loose.
Too scared to weigh myself :(, I’ve downloaded an app.
No Carb Challenge, I’m a long time calorie counter.
I’m in a different time zone.

Acolite · 01/01/2025 09:07

Morning. Well, I’ve got the first dreaded weigh-in out of the way. BMI 32.6, about 40lbs to lose. That’s about what I expected, but still hard to write down. Plus it’s pouring down here, so no long walk today.
Feeling determined though, so it’s all down from here.
We had our bedroom redone before Christmas, so yesterday I went through two bags of clothes I had bagged up at the back of the wardrobe - mostly size 12, some size 10. I’ve kept about half, so I now have something to aim for. I’m a size 16 at the moment, so it’s going to take a while.

Happy new Year to everyone and may you have a year of good choices.

HolyGrailSeeker · 01/01/2025 09:28

@Acolite Facing up to the reality of the situation is the first step. Well done for acknowledging it.
I am in a similar position to you with the amount of weight to lose and it felt so shocking and shameful to be confronted with that number, but we put that behind us and say NEVER AGAIN and look to get lower and lower.

We can do this! 💪

HolyGrailSeeker · 01/01/2025 09:32

Morning everyone and Happy New Year!

76.80kg here today which is pleasing.
3.20kg down / 16.8kg to go.

I didn’t manage a walk yesterday, and might not do today if the forecasts are accurate, but I stopped eating by 6pm last night so if I can, I will try to delay eating again until lunchtime and hope that the extra 2 hours fasting will balance out the lack of activity.

I am incredibly proud of myself for resisting the temptation of snacks last night. So that is a massive win for me.

NerrSnerr · 01/01/2025 10:01

Happy new year all.

Hope it's ok to to join.

Weigh in this morning 12st5. Over the last few years I have sat around 12 stone and not managed to lose it. Determined that this is the year. I am now 42 and my joints are sore and I'm feeling hugely sluggish. I'm worried about the future and losing mobility etc so I'm determined to get fit and healthy.

Day off for exercise today apart from maybe some yoga- have exercised the last few days so resting today.

Piglet89 · 01/01/2025 10:31

Morning and Happy New Year all! Having distracted myself for as long as humanly possible, I weighed in just now at 70.7kg. Not sure what that is in stones and lb but I've decided to go metric to take the sting out of the reality - so no spoilers, pls.

I had a fairly indulgent NYE featuring quite a bit of Champagne, Domino's pizza (from the sublime to the ridiculous) and home made key lime pie.

So now I feel a bit like Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka: pic attached for those who don't get this classic 1970s kid film ref.

All the very best to everyone who's coming along for the journey. We can do this!!!! Grin

GreenMarigold · 01/01/2025 10:38

I forgot to weigh in first thing but I’ll do it tomorrow.

Never mind the wind and rain, I’m going out for a walk today anyway! Just need to get rid of house guests and I’ll be out there.

I’m also going to do a short workout this afternoon.

I am on course to hold my fast until lunchtime and will try to keep calories under 1300 for the day.

Gizmosgremlins · 01/01/2025 12:09

Happy new year everyone!

Started my day with a hangover but full of good intentions. Having some spearmint tea just now and have a steak pie and veggies for my meal later...no alcohol involved which will be tough.
