Wanting to lose close to 10kg in time for Christmas

MangoLove · 12/09/2024 13:24

Hi, Looking for anyone that would like to join for support

Height: 5'3
CW: 87.7kg
Christmas GW: 80kg

So, I know 80kg is still high in BMI - but this will be a huge achievement for me and my body shape. I'm pretty fed up of not feeling comfortable in my clothes when seeing so many family and friends over the festive period. A bit shallow - but I want to look better!

Plan

  1. Intermittent Fasting - keeping my eating window between 1-7pm
  2. 15k steps a day - a morning walk and then walking in front of the TV after the kids have gone to bed.
  3. Water Water and more Water
  4. Choosing low calorie treats and letting myself have 1 a day!

Really trying to keep this is simple as possible so that if i fall off for a day, it will be easy to get back on track. I'm also not falling victim to the stacked high piles of chocolate tubs in the supermarkets. I will not buy a tub till December!

Would anyone like to join? We have 11 full weeks till the start of December, and at 0.5kg a week - an opportunity to be at least 5.5kgs lighter.

I'll come back every Monday to share my new weight but will obviously be here in between to muse and hopefully share some nsv's

I actually stuck to my calorie allowance today, for the first time in months. It's always a bit disappointing just how little food you actually get for 1600 calories. I had no breakfast. I had a frozen portion of chicken and cauliflower rice with peas and peppers, with a spoonful of homemade aioli, an apple and some fat free Greek yoghurt for lunch. I had a hot chocolate/options mid afternoon. Dinner was pasta bake with chorizo (I had a really small portion with only a few slices of chorizo in) and cheese on top, with an apple and a satsuma.

I went to bootcamp, I was going to cry off but I made myself go and I'm glad I did. Although I know it will hurt tomorrow, my pt is a physio and he made me do loads of hip work because of my sore hip, and I think I'll feel it tomorrow.

All in, I've had 1600 cals, 14.5k steps.

OkyDoke · 24/09/2024 09:49

Have not made any progress since posting here, need to regroup and get my act together!

MangoLove · 24/09/2024 10:34

A big warm welcome to @DrunkTinkerbell40s and @peachescariad

Yesterday was okay-ish

❌Steps: Managed 10361 - 4k shy of my 15k goal, will try again today
Water: Managed my 2l
Food: 18:6 Fast - but did end up finishing dc's dinner and a subway cookie
❌Workout: Didn't workout

Today, we go again. Hoping to move more throughout the day so that i can achieve my 15k. Continue with my water intake. Have no more coffees - I've had a skinny flat white already. Going for 4 ✅green ticks when I check in tomorrow and maybe a cherry on the top

Good job on getting to bootcamp thenewaveragebear1983
@Needanewname42 - You are doing all the right things, the scale will budge in the desired direction. Don't let the gain get you down.

I have a non scale win 🏅: A pair of jeans I tried to wear on the first day of school - that didn't button up, actually buttoned up. I might use this pair as my weekly check in. Hopefully we can go from buttoned, to buttoned with no muffin top, to too big!

Feel free to share your non scale wins! They are just as important on this journey. Also, has anyone started looking at what they want to wear over the Xmas period. I have a few bits already in my closet that I'm going to keep trying on and using that as extra motivation!

OP posts:
MangoLove · 24/09/2024 10:37

@OkyDoke - anything that we can do to help with the extra motivation to get you going?

I would love for everyone to come on here in December saying they have lost some weight and are feeling much more confident all together.

I have my motivation now. Just booked a holiday for next May and need to lose weight! Hoping to lose a couple of stone before Christmas. Should he doable as I tend to lose quite a bit of weight in the first few weeks and then hopefully I can steadily lose 2 pounds a week.
Starting weight is 16stone 2 and so ideally to get to my ideal weight I need to lose 5 stone.
I'm doing Intermittent fasting and cutting out chocolate as I binge on sweet stuff and also bread as it makes me feel really sluggish.
I need to up my yoga from 1 day a week to 4 days a week.
Yesterday was a good day. Started drinking more water and this morning I've done 30 mins of yoga.

Bluebellsinthewind · 24/09/2024 12:56

I like the idea of trying on, what Christmas dresses, I have for motivation. Will have a look and see what I've got.

Mirren22 · 24/09/2024 13:03

Joining too. I'm 5'4 and I think 10 stone. Active at the gym but eat a lot of beige food, probably too many carbs and enjoy wine!

lemontova · 24/09/2024 20:01

Oh dear. I seem to have put on 2kg in a weekend. Friday night wine and one treat meal over the weekend wasn’t a sensible plan. It was sunny Thursday so we had wine for dinner, then a huge hangover lunch on Friday followed by cheese and crackers for tea. Homemade pizza, wine, cheese Saturday. Roast dinner and glass of wine Sunday. Compared to what I’d eat when not trying to be healthy this was fairly minimal (no crisps or biscuits!) but clearly not a helpful way to spend the weekend. Minimal food yesterday and today- hoping it’s 2kg that will come off as quick as it went on.

Needanewname42 · 24/09/2024 22:43

It will. Probably a chunk of salt making you retain fluid.
I've dropped a kg since Sunday. Feeling a bit happier about my efforts.

Maarva · 24/09/2024 23:12

This is exactly my target, would love to join.

5’3” 80kg age 44

I got down to 70kg 2 years ago but slowly been creeping back up.

I know what I need to do, and I need to focus.

Low carb
Fasting 16:8
No snacking
No processed food
No bingeing/mindless eating
Hypnotherapy tape daily (Allen Carr)
Plus exercise, although it’s food that really makes the difference

I have been overweight since childhood, I put on weight so easily and comfort/boredom eat. It’s a lifelong battle but determined to crack it this time.

MangoLove · 25/09/2024 10:43

Happy Hump Day all!

@TwilightAb – A milestone is always a great idea when working on what feels like a long term project. I've got lots of little ones that I’m hoping will keep me in check.

Mid Oct - Girls holiday don’t want to be the fat friend
Mid Nov - Family photo shoot. These are going to be professional pictures that will hang around forever. My weight has always held me back from doing these, but I cant hide forever can I?
Dec – Christmas, seeing family & friends
Feb – My birthday
May – DH 40th, We’ll be centre of attention and I MUST be at the most 75kg (this is roughly what I was at his 30th)

@Bluebellsinthewind – I tried on some bits yesterday, and they already feel better. I think especially because of my carb reduction, my mid area is less bloated. This is super exciting. Have you found anything to use as your ‘measure’?

Anyone else want to join in on finding an item of clothing as a weekly measring point? I saw this on a lady on YouTube. The scales are one thing, but how your clothes fit is important too.

@Maarva @Mirren22 – the ladies here are a lovely bunch, and overall its an active conversation. Hope you enjoy it in our little corner of motivation!

@lemontova – it probably is a bit of water weight, so don’t stress too much about it. Just take a day at a time and see how many green ticks you can give yourself.

Checking in on yesterday (Tues 24th)

Steps: 19,187 - Went out on a walk, even in the rain!
Water: Managed my 2l
Food: 18:6 Fast - good dinner, subway cookie
Workout: Jog/Walk intervals on the treadmill - worked up a little sweat
🍒Jeans from earlier in Sept actually buttoned up, stuck to one coffee

I'm going to continue to give you my updates using ✅and any 🍒on top. I quite like having 4 ticks - call me out if you see I haven't done what I said i was going to. If i have green ticks all week - the scale has to budge! There are no more subway cookies in the house now - so I'm actually out of bad snacks! Got a food shop booked for tomorrow - going to review to make sure I'm not actively bringing anything into the house that is going to sabotage me.

RedHotChilliPreppers · 25/09/2024 11:34

I lost 0.9 kg last week, that’s nearly 1/10th of what I need to lose. Hoping this week is similar.

Sick of being overweight.

Swearwolf · 25/09/2024 12:49

I'll join you with the mini milestones @MangoLove. I'm floating at 64.5-65kg at the moment and weight loss is super slow, so 58kg seems a long way off.

My first goal is 63kg by November. I'm away for work and want all my work clothes to fit properly!

I'd then settle for 62kg by Christmas, ideally 61kg. I think that's a reasonable rate of loss for me and I know I have a tricky end to the year with lots of work travel (which always wrecks me) and various Christmas parties and events coming up.

Bluebellsinthewind · 25/09/2024 13:08

Not found anything yet. I've had a migraine since yesterday. Living off tea, digestive biscuits and toast with marmalade 😳

rockingaroundthemulberrybush · 25/09/2024 14:06

Hello everyone,

I'd like to join please to help with motivation and to support you all. I love a bit of accountability too! My current goal is to lose a significant amount of weight for the start of February for a big holiday so I hope to be well on my way by Christmas! I actually started on Sunday 1 September and have lost 4.8kg since then but am probably the biggest on the thread (see below). I would like to be a more 'normal' weight by February or certainly heading there, by that I mean a size 18/20 rather than size 24! My weight is affecting every single part of my life and defines who I am, how I behave, where I go and what I do at the moment as it affects me so much - my confidence, my social life, how I dress, my health etc. and I am determined this has to change as I'm 44 and refuse to head into middle age with this to cope with as well as all the other midlife challenges!

I was doing so well until today! Until this afternoon, I have been super good for the last 24 days - keto combined with IF 20:4, 18:6 or 17:17 most days, saying no to massive buffets, pancakes, sweets - but today I've had 1.5 bagels and a pack of Lily O'Briens chocolate buttons so time for a reset! I was feeling a bit low but no real excuse. Back on the wagon I go!

SW 121.9kg
CW 117.3kg
GW (Xmas) under 100kg (13w to go)
GW (February) under 95kg (19w to go)

I work a 15 day shift pattern including night shifts in emergency services as well as having 4 x children so this makes eating, sleeping and exercise all over the place just to add to the fun! I'd love to get my step count up or do a regular dance class but spinning my current plates and planning, buying, cooking my food has me about at my limit on my current schedule.

Thanks for the thread!

TwilightAb · 25/09/2024 14:33

I'm on day 3 and doing well. Not gone near the chocolate, have been sticking to IF and eating healthier. I already feel the de bloat. My motivation is:

End of October- Holiday

November - Spa day

March - Friends bday trip away

May - Holiday with some friends where I hope to be at my target weight!

The last time I went away with friends was 10 years ago and I looked and felt great! However 2 babies and a whole decade later has put paid to that so hoping that I at least feel a lot slimmer than I do now!

okayhescereal · 25/09/2024 19:45

Well done you going out for a walk even in the rain!

I managed about 30 minutes on the bike during the school run today but was otherwise very sedentary. Had porridge for breakfast, an apple and then some roast veg orzo pasta bake at midday ish. Didn't get my ducks in a row to have a little snack before my 3pm cut off so am very hungry right now. Considering an extremely early bedtime, though first I have to make the packed lunches...eep!! Will have a nice big drink before I start, maybe that'll help me resist picking.

I think the key for me is really going to be getting movement in. Need to squeeze a good walk in somewhere and get those steps up!! Not sure the school run counts as we move so overwhelmingly slowly 😂 better for me to stick them on the bike and cycle.

Maarva · 25/09/2024 20:52

Thanks @MangoLove for the welcome!

My motivation is a reunion end of November where I want to wear my smaller clothes.

Had a good day so far today fasting till 2pm when I had a berry protein smoothie and then chicken and veg for tea plus some fruit & cream for pudding.

SamKW · 26/09/2024 06:23

Hi can I join too!!

Sorry I'm late to the thread.

SW: 16st5
CW:15st8
GW (Christmas): 14st8
GW: 12st 5

I'm still shifting babyweight (although DS is 18months now)! Need to get back into my jeans and out of my leggings!

Going to try IF and increasing the amount I walk, in the middle of a renovation (staying with MIL's whilst we renovate our new place) and I work in a sedentary job so trying I get at least 10,000 steps a day (being realistic about free time).

Have some meal replacement shakes so will try to use them on office days and otherwise be low carb with the IF.

I don't want to ban any foods as that's unhelpful to me and I'll end up bingeing but hopefully can be more conscious of what I'm eating!

Going to a SW Group for extra accountability and to be weighed weekly!

Good luck everyone- hoping the Christmas countdown spurs us all on!

MangoLove · 26/09/2024 09:14

@RedHotChilliPreppers – well done on your loss! That’s the top end of whats recommended, so you have done amazing! Keep doing whatever you have been doing -its obviously working. Soon enough you will be no loner overweight.

@Bluebellsinthewind – hope you feel better today?

@rockingaroundthemulberrybush – Welcome on board! Great job on your loss so far, looks like you have a working method! We’re all different heights and weights on here, some of us (like me) would love to lose 20-30kg eventually, and some of us are on the last 2kg. But we are all on the same journey and need the same level of support and motivation. We’ve got you! PS. Working shifts must be a right pain in this journey.

@TwilightAb – looks like we have similar milestones! I’m going to need you to keep me accountable and will do the same for you too

@Maarva – there are a few of us with some November mini milestones. We’ll keep eachother on track

@SamKW – Hello! I wish I had started my journey when my youngest dc was 18m (I've been carrying this baby weight for 6 yrs now). You sound like you have a good plan. We are here for motivation!

Checking in on yesterday (Weds 25/9)

Steps: 17,990
Water: Managed my 2l
Food: Actually had my first bite at 4.30, so more like a 21:3 Fast
Workout: Fudged my way through what was supposed to be upper body weights.

All in all a good day. Somehow, I feel like I should be doing more, but then I remind myself that this is not a journey with an end date. This is going to be weight loss first and then maintenance after. To be honest - I really want to fast track the weight loss part of it.

Plan for today:
🚶Get a lunchtime walk in
🕒See if i can stretch my fast to 19/20 hrs (2/3pm)
☕Stick to one coffee (which I've had already)
🌭Avoid eating the sausages and mash I'll be making dc for dinner tonight.

Yes of course! Have had 3 good days and have felt much better in myself. Until this morning when I woke up with a stinking cold! Normally I would hit the sugar and carbs hard when under the weather but I'm determined to stick to a healthy diet and hope this cold will clear up quickly.

GallstoneGertie · 23/09/2024 09:35

I’d like to join in! 5’3” and 111kg. /17st7lb bmi 43.4
Initial goal is to get off this plateau, where I’ve been stuck for weeks. 100 kg or 16 st or bmi under 40 would be great.

had a minor gallstone attack last week, so avoiding anything that can do that to me again.

Today I weighed in at 17st 3 lb, four pounds down from my first weigh-in three days ago, so it’s possible that my scales are skewiff. Will become more apparent doing a daily weigh-in.

I’ve changed to skimmed milk (red lids) and I think that’s made a difference. Also restricted my carbs to ryvita, rice cakes, wraps, the occasional bread sandwich. No more rolls or cereal. Bread is next to be off the food plan.

Sticking to nothing after 7pm with the exception of skim milk latte on evenings of teens’ taxi when it is getting colder, wetter, and darker.

Bluebellsinthewind · 26/09/2024 19:14

Welcome new people 👋
Well done to posters who have lost and to those who have gained/stayed the same, reflect and start again.

I went down a mumsnet rabbit hole yesterday, looking for a migraine cure. The long and short of it is. I sent dh to the shop to buy me provisions and then stuffed my face. I had a can of cola, 1 bounty, a packet of salt & vinegar crisps and French baguette with clover and sea salt. It bloody worked and my migraine was completely gone within twenty minutes. Went for a short walk today, then had a chippy for dinner. I am not holding out any hope for the scales tomorrow.

TwilightAb · 27/09/2024 10:38

I have lost 2 pounds so far this week. A bit disappointed as when I've started sorting my diet out in the past I've lost a few more pounds in the first week. Last year I lost about 6 pounds week 1 and then a steady 2 pounds a week. I am aware that I am in to my 40s now and so that may have an impact. However if I am losing a steady 2 pounds or so a week then I should be on my way to a 2 stone weight loss by Christmas which will be a lot better than it has been!
