Wanting to lose close to 10kg in time for Christmas

MangoLove · 12/09/2024 13:24

Hi, Looking for anyone that would like to join for support

Height: 5'3
CW: 87.7kg
Christmas GW: 80kg

So, I know 80kg is still high in BMI - but this will be a huge achievement for me and my body shape. I'm pretty fed up of not feeling comfortable in my clothes when seeing so many family and friends over the festive period. A bit shallow - but I want to look better!

Plan

  1. Intermittent Fasting - keeping my eating window between 1-7pm
  2. 15k steps a day - a morning walk and then walking in front of the TV after the kids have gone to bed.
  3. Water Water and more Water
  4. Choosing low calorie treats and letting myself have 1 a day!

Really trying to keep this is simple as possible so that if i fall off for a day, it will be easy to get back on track. I'm also not falling victim to the stacked high piles of chocolate tubs in the supermarkets. I will not buy a tub till December!

Would anyone like to join? We have 11 full weeks till the start of December, and at 0.5kg a week - an opportunity to be at least 5.5kgs lighter.

I'll come back every Monday to share my new weight but will obviously be here in between to muse and hopefully share some nsv's

Can I join too please? I’ve struggled with my weight for 9 years where it’s gradually gone up and up. Over that 9 years I’ve gained over 6 stone 😢
I lost 3 stone during covid but obviously that’s all gone back on.
I need to stop snacking, I overeat without thinking about it, just getting that sugar fix but can’t stop.
Does anyone else have that much to lose?

Chaoseverywhere · 19/09/2024 08:36

Thank you everyone for the welcome.

I’ve started because doctors said they can’t do my surgery unless I lose weight. I’ve lost nearly 2kg which is a start. I’m not going to follow any particular diet plan but I aim to increase exercise and reduce food quantity.

Just to complicate things I’m going to be homeless in November. Landlord gave notice and I need to find a new home. But I’m staying positive. It would be incredible if I could lose 20kg. It really would.

im not sure whether to go to my gp for help
with this.

anyway ill be here cheering you all on! Good luck well done and here’s to better health ahead

MangoLove · 19/09/2024 10:17

@Namerequired – don’t let this weigh in stress you out. Just take each day as a new opportunity to work twards the goal. Water weight is very real and will show up when you least want it.

@thenewaveragebear1983 – I too came on, but it was all unexpected. Just had the implant put back in my arm and so I think my body is all out of sync. Season changes are a right bump in the road aren’t they? I’ve just bought a new walking gilet to help keep up my outside walking as it gets cold.

@Bluebellsinthewind – 9lbs! well done, Do you use a slimline tonic with your Gin?

@InvisibleDisability @LilyBobtail1 @Swearwolf – Still 98 days till Christmas and plenty of time to make some changes. You are welcome to join!

@Chaoseverywhere – That’s a spanner, I’m so sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can secure a new home soon!

I had a whole team meet in the office yesterday with pastries for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and then drinks after. Not the best day tbh I'd normally aim to be really good all week and then have a bit more freedom on Sat & Sun (almost like the 5:2 diet) - so this week I'm going to have to give up one of my weekend days - luckily nothing much planned, so should be fine.

Steps have been a bit blah this week, so I'm going to step that up a bit more over the next 4 days. I'm aiming for at least 2lbs off by Monday.

BodySlims starts next week.

You WILL lose it on that. It’s expensive, but it works.

Monkeysatonthewall · 19/09/2024 10:21

5'8.5" and* *75 kg, I would love to lose 10 kg but been feeling so low recently that I'm struggling to go for walks etc.
Joining for motivation!

Me! I started in January/February at 18st 3! I’m 5ft 1 at a push. I waited to 17st 13 before even starting to count it because somehow it seemed a little more palatable. I have severe asthma and use steroids and have put that on over 14yrs. It stabilised after about 9/10yrs but then started going up in the last year or so again. After a heart scare in January I said enough.
In august my lowest was 14st 1. Since then it has yo-yo up and down and this morning I was 14st 9!! So creeping back on. I can’t let that happen.
I was on a thread here to lose 2st by summer and smashed it so hoping this one will get me back motivated. It’s hard to keep the motivation going. Need to get back to calorie counting and noting my food.

3luckystars · 19/09/2024 11:36

Bodyslims?

I’m not sure what it is but I know that it works.

I have signed up for it and I know I will lose weight if I follow what he tells me to do. I know you have to walk for 1 hour per day and that everyone says that he makes you feel amazing and that can achieve anything. How it works I don’t know but will find out next week!!!

MangoLove · 19/09/2024 12:02

@3luckystars Cant wait to hear more about your journey on BodySlims!

Walking and getting those steps in has been a dream for me. I don't dread it like i would having to go for a run. Just turn on the TV or pop my head phones on. This last burst of warmth is helping, but know the true test will be when its dark at 4pm and the weather is consistently in single figures.

@MangoLove yeah I use Tesco low calories tonic water and gordons pink gin. I tried Aldi pink gin but it gave me migraines. The only exercise I've managed this week is a 3 mile walk. Need to start prioritising exercise. Dd got a walking pad for Christmas a few years ago, going to put in the sitting room over the winter so can watch TV and still get steps in.

okayhescereal · 19/09/2024 14:52

I'm in!

5ft 7, 90kg 😐

Recently started exercising 2-3x a week for an hour. I cycle about half an hour a day 3x a week on the school run and then randomly other times. Have been IF (window between 9&3) but just not making healthy choices. Definitely need to up the fruit and veggie intake and jettison the chocolate and bread!

magicalhammerhead · 19/09/2024 16:19

I'd love to join!

I started on Monday at 13 stone 6 lbs. I'm being calorie aware and running 3 X a week, hoping to build up to 10km.

I would like to be 12 stone by the start of 2025, Monday 6th January so I'm motivated to not overindulge over Christmas.

That gives me 16 weeks to lose 22 lbs which I think is a stretch goal but a doable one.

5ft 7, 29 years old, female.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 19/09/2024 19:36

I’m in too if you’ll have me! I’ve reached a point where something just needs to give. I’m sick of having such a bad relationship with both my body and with food.

Tried pretty much every diet in the book but this time I want to shift how I think about and even eat food. Others have said they snack without thinking, hi that’s me!

Weighed myself this afternoon and I’m as big now as I was when my first boy (now 7) was six months old. I want to lose 1.5 stones and not just to look better but more importantly to feel better :)

I’ll be being the nutricheck app and slowly increasing my exercise each day. Currently do little to no exercise and eat chocolate every day…

I've not heard of bodyslims either, what is it?

So I haven't been quite as dreadful today, but still not properly on it. I've eaten good meals and I didn't have any biscuits or sweets, I did have a hot cross bun though. I am annoyed with myself this week, I've really not got myself back on track, and now it's nearly the weekend which is always even more difficult. i might end up re-re-starting on Monday. I'm really tired and don't feel 100% either which doesn't help.

I know after a few good days it will all just click again, I just need to do those days! Shopping comes tomorrow and I've done a good healthy shop so my meals should be ok but I think I actually need to knuckle down properly and count calories again.

@RuggedHairyTortoise I don't mean to piss on your chips, but realistically trying to lose 2lb a week, when your only 5ft 2 isn't very realistic, unless you have a very active job and lifestyle.

A pound is about 3500cal.

Your about the same size as me.
My BMR is about 1400, to loose a lb a week you need a deficit of 500cal per day. Which means eating less than 1000cal.

Too lose 2lb a week you'd need to be eating less than 1000cal and burning an extra 500cal per day. Unless you've got an active job or do a lot of walking that won't be easy.

I really don't think this is correct. If your BMR is 1400, that means that you're body would burn 1400 calories in a 24 hour period if you did absolutely nothing all day other than lay in bed and breath. On the assumption that you do not do this all day everyday then you also need to take into account the calories your burn naturally in your everyday, walking, working, cooking, cleaning, exercise etc. You'd probably actually find that to create a 500 calories deficit you'd still be able to consume about 1500 easily. Maybe that helps?

Namerequired · 20/09/2024 14:50

I would be interested to hear more too. I need some new motivation. Weighing 14st 5 this morning so some was water weight. On my time of the month so hoping it goes down some more. It’s still near 2 months of yo-yoing though so need to get back on it properly.

Handyru · 20/09/2024 14:55

I'm arriving a bit late. But I will join.

5'7
80kg

Want to be down to 70kg.
Recovering from a leg injury which has left me immobile for 6 weeks and I've gained weight but needed to lose a few pounds before the injury anyway.

Still a bit limited physically in terms of exercise but I can definitely improve me eating habits.

MadamTeapot · 21/09/2024 01:43

Can I join you all? 5 stone to lose, but trying to focus on mini achievements and Christmas is a good focus. I’d love to be down a size in both trousers and tops by then!
Trying not to weigh that frequently, instead focus on health, energy and wellbeing. So going caffeine free is included too, as is more walks, more seeds/kefir, and better sleep habits.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/09/2024 07:56

I drank a few glasses of wine last night but I didn't eat loads of snacks or have anything too wild. I feel unhealthy today. I usually go to a bootcamp on Saturday mornings but my hip is still tender and to be honest, I'm not feeling like an hour of burpees on wet grass. I'm going to run later and will run tomorrow as well as is my usual Sunday routine.

I just need to get back into some sort of rhythm, so today I will track my calories, drink lots of water and no wine tonight.

Bluebellsinthewind · 21/09/2024 14:45

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday. Just popping in to say that I lost 1lbs this week.

My aim for new week is to take one day at a time, hopefully drop another 1lbs and do at least three walks for a minimum of a hour each time. Plus do bingo wing exercises daily. Will also get back to a normal bedtime routine and have much less gin.

Going to make homemade Chinese for dinner tonight. Have a few gins and nibbles.

I get so frustrated with myself. How did I let myself get like this? We went to a party not that long ago, someone was taking photos, When I seen myself in the photo, I honestly was mortified and had to stop myself from crying. Determined to drop the 10lbs before Christmas. Wish I could wake up one morning and the extra weight was gone 😪

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 21/09/2024 15:17

Go on then. I do better when I’m being accountable. Lost 1.5 stone in time for my holiday which I was very happy with, but I’ve gained again.

I’ll weigh in on Monday and start there.

Allaboutme23 · 21/09/2024 21:04

Forgot to weigh yesterday but at now 14 st 8, I am 6lbs done, sticking to 800 calories. I know that this really was a few lbs water weight however, feeling better already. Did 10000 steps only on 2 days and so i will be up early tomorrow to start as many days as I can slot in for the week. About to charge airpods, get clothes ready. If I am not organised then I can generally kiss goodbye to healthy intentions

Will also look to making dinners for week tmw to get ahead.

Swearwolf · 22/09/2024 07:30

I've had a fairly gentle start and haven't curbed my eating or drinking very successfully yet. I am getting back into a good routine with exercise though, and am just getting ready for a Sunday morning run.

I'll weigh myself in the morning but not expecting any real difference yet. My body always takes a couple of weeks to catch up, good or bad. It's caught me out before when I've eaten really badly for a while with seemingly no consequence, only for it to show three weeks in, so I need to keep this in mind when I don't see immediate results and keep thinking long term.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/09/2024 07:58

Morning all, I've had a fairly gentle nonexistent start as well, but I have woken up this morning feeling tired, hungover, and grumpy about it so I've got to do something now. I'm very nearly up into the next stone bracket now as well, a milestone I don't want to experience, so I really do need to get my act together. I just seem to end up bingeing every day, or at least having one mad half hour every day where I eat enough calories to basically undo any deficit and exercise I may have done. 🤷‍♀️ it makes me feel so rubbish.

It's a miserable wet day here, I am going to go for a run this morning and then walk the dog, but it's raining heavily at the moment so I'm waiting a bit. We are out for a meal today for a friends birthday, I'm going to drive so I don't drink but the food is standard pub food and not really a healthy choice.
