Wanting to lose close to 10kg in time for Christmas

MangoLove · 12/09/2024 13:24

Hi, Looking for anyone that would like to join for support

Height: 5'3
CW: 87.7kg
Christmas GW: 80kg

So, I know 80kg is still high in BMI - but this will be a huge achievement for me and my body shape. I'm pretty fed up of not feeling comfortable in my clothes when seeing so many family and friends over the festive period. A bit shallow - but I want to look better!

Plan

  1. Intermittent Fasting - keeping my eating window between 1-7pm
  2. 15k steps a day - a morning walk and then walking in front of the TV after the kids have gone to bed.
  3. Water Water and more Water
  4. Choosing low calorie treats and letting myself have 1 a day!

Really trying to keep this is simple as possible so that if i fall off for a day, it will be easy to get back on track. I'm also not falling victim to the stacked high piles of chocolate tubs in the supermarkets. I will not buy a tub till December!

Would anyone like to join? We have 11 full weeks till the start of December, and at 0.5kg a week - an opportunity to be at least 5.5kgs lighter.

I'll come back every Monday to share my new weight but will obviously be here in between to muse and hopefully share some nsv's

Hey all,

I am shattered today - and with tiredness usually comes terrible decisions for me. I'm supposed to be going to Wagamamas this evening, so ideally I'd like to hold out on a meal till then. Its also going to full of salt, so will need to be on my best behaviour this sat & sun. I was hoping to weigh in at 84.5 on Monday, but don't think I've done enough this week to warrant a loss of 1.4kg (3lbs).

On the whole, I'm starting to feel more confident - could just be a placebo affect of making better choices - but I am less bloated and so look smaller. I am very pear shaped and tend to lose weight up top first. I am a 2x CS mumma and so the thought of every having a 'flat' stomach is nil, but having a waist is very possible and one of my goals.

Yesterday:
✅Steps: 20,566 (had a lunchtime outdoor walk and treadmill walk)
✅Food: Fast was fine (20:4), my meal choice wasn't great.
❌Water: Probably 1.5l yesterday, so again not a great day here
✅Workout: Treadmill incline walk. Need to try and get another sweaty workout in soon

@TwilightAb - great job on your 2lbs down, 12 weeks till xmas at that rate gives you about 24lbs

@Bluebellsinthewind - glad you sorted the migraines, had a treat and still managed to prioritise health by going for a walk. The scales may not budge tomorrow, but ensuring we are doing the right thing 80-90% of the time will move the needle eventually.

@GallstoneGertie - 4lbs is an incredible loss. Fingers crossed it sticks. Its a nice way to start the journey

Weekend is upon us, whats everyone's plans for staying on track?

@MangoLove enjoy your meal out 😊.

I plan two gentle walks over the weekend, joints have been playing up recently so exercise has taken a dive. Food wise - we’re out for lunch tomorrow but I know the place well and will enjoy the healthier options. Sunday is my hard day - I find as a single parent with no family left that Sundays often really drag.

GallstoneGertie · 28/09/2024 18:36

Weekend plan is that I got a tesco delivery yesterday for store cupboard essentials, and will have another on Monday for fridge items So whatever happens, I don’t need to be physically in a shop over the weekend when it’s busiest and I get all harassed and buy soothing items.

I haven’t eaten bread since Thursday. I still eat the same fillings, but with crispbread or salad in a wrap.

I can get into jackets that I couldn’t close last winter.

3luckystars · 29/09/2024 09:11

I started BodySlims on Wednesday and am sticking with it and enjoying it a little bit, but it’s not easy. I have to walk 1 hour each day which is actually a lot nicer than I thought.

I will let you know how I get on weight wise.

Hello everyone,

I'd like to join please to help with motivation and to support you all. I love a bit of accountability too! My current goal is to lose a significant amount of weight for the start of February for a big holiday so I hope to be well on my way by Christmas! I actually started on Sunday 1 September and have lost 4.8kg since then but am probably the biggest on the thread (see below). I would like to be a more 'normal' weight by February or certainly heading there, by that I mean a size 18/20 rather than size 24! My weight is affecting every single part of my life and defines who I am, how I behave, where I go and what I do at the moment as it affects me so much - my confidence, my social life, how I dress, my health etc. and I am determined this has to change as I'm 44 and refuse to head into middle age with this to cope with as well as all the other midlife challenges!

I was doing so well until today! Until this afternoon, I have been super good for the last 24 days - keto combined with IF 20:4, 18:6 or 17:17 most days, saying no to massive buffets, pancakes, sweets - but today I've had 1.5 bagels and a pack of Lily O'Briens chocolate buttons so time for a reset! I was feeling a bit low but no real excuse. Back on the wagon I go!

SW 121.9kg
CW 117.3kg
GW (Xmas) under 100kg (13w to go)
GW (February) under 95kg (19w to go)

I work a 15 day shift pattern including night shifts in emergency services as well as having 4 x children so this makes eating, sleeping and exercise all over the place just to add to the fun! I'd love to get my step count up or do a regular dance class but spinning my current plates and planning, buying, cooking my food has me about at my limit on my current schedule.

Thanks for the thread!

Hello!

I need some help/support please.

I am inexplicably putting on weight (2kg this week) despite doing what I've always done and did successfully at the start of the month as above (fasting/keto). I've been so good and am so disheartened. My body feels different but the scales are definitely not behaving. It's soul destroying. I think there may be a few reasons for this:-

  • I'm a shift worker and often eating & weighing at odd times due to sleep patterns
  • I am 44 & perimenopausal
  • Possibly TOTM/hormonal (unsure due to mirena coil)
  • I'm possibly not eating enough - some days I've been fasting until teatime and having OMAD
  • I don't watch my calories at all and eat plenty of fat (bacon, f/f Greek yoghurt, f/fat cottage cheese, cheese)

I think what I probably need to do is move onto something like Fast800. I don't find fasting difficult and can switch to having a shake or low low calorie lunch then a main meal most days but I'm really not good at tracking calories and hate being hungry. Or do I keep on keeping on & hope things will click back into place?

Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you. I really am trying! There was a massive yummy buffet at work last week that I successfully swerved 2 days in a row and I am now wondering why I didn't nose dive into it if I'm getting fatter anyway! I drink lots of water but don't exercise, I really don't have time (see above re. f/t shift work plus 4 x kids!).

MadamTeapot · 29/09/2024 13:49

@rockingaroundthemulberrybush you're focusing brilliantly! I bet you’ve had a hormonal dip/surge, they are harder to see a regular pattern to it on hormonal contraception but still definitely play a huge part in our food behaviour AND short term weight especially in 40s!

I found that when I couldn’t get steps in as life so hectic I could still up my “flights”. I’d climb the stairs in sets of 4 throughout the day, or go up/down an extra time every time I did it for life reasons (kids/laundry lol)

Are you taking a good multi-vitamin? Drinking enough?

okayhescereal · 29/09/2024 19:40

Been away for a girls weekend. Stuck to IF (no food after 3pm), no alcohol, managed to resist cake at elevenses. Did share a pud after a 10k walk but had a smaller main as well so hoping that balanced out. Stuck to the healthy snacks and meals...feeling very proud of myself but also used to seeing absolutely no movement on the scales for the last 6 weeks or so so don't have very high hopes for tomorrow.

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 30/09/2024 06:53

Ok first weigh in after 1 week of counting calories (have had between 1250 and 1550 each day).

Height - 5ft 4
Age - 43
SW - 13st 1.2 (BMI 31.7)
CW - 12.10.4 (BMI 30.8)

I even got a warning from my scales that as I had lost so much this week it needed me to confirm I was def the right person GrinGrin

I've def lost more weight than that in a week before but I'll take it!!

RedHotChilliPreppers · 30/09/2024 07:01

Yay, I lost 1.35kg, a total of 2.25kg in 2 weeks. Just under 5lbs. Did running x 3, Pilates and some weights last week.

Feeling good :)

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 30/09/2024 07:21

@MangoLove your 20:4 fasts, do you have hot drinks with milk during the fast?
I don't think I could do it without my regularly teas! I could possibly have them black.
At the moment I'm struggling to hold out until 12 to eat anything so I'm probably doing more a 16:8... but it's 7:20am and I'm already hungry for breakfast!

TwilightAb · 30/09/2024 08:20

Weigh in for me.
Starting weight 16 stone 2
Weigh in weight 15 stone 9!!!!
Has been achieved by IF 8:16, reduced calories to 1200 and eating more veg, cutting out bread and a lot of sugar. I tend to have a smaller lunch and eat as usual with the family in the evening. I even had pizza night on Saturday. I can't give up my Saturday night pizza!
It sounds drastic but this is usually what happens when I start eating healthy and really watching my calories for the first week, after that it's usually a steady 2 pounds a week. As you can see I have a lot of weight to lose and think most if that is water to be honest.
Feeling better in myself. My stomach is definitely a lot happier and bloating has gone. Here's to another good week!

okayhescereal · 30/09/2024 08:29

I first started monitoring and checking my weight in April at 92kg (14.5 st). I started 5:2 and lost a kilo or so. Then in the summer switched to IF (18:6) Joined you all on the 19th September at 90kg (14.2 stone) having fluctuated between 89.5 and 90.5 for months. On a very slow journey. Sticking with IF and avoiding processed foods.

This morning I'm 88.5kg (13.13). So that's really something!

From now on I'm also going to significantly cut back on pasta, rice, bread and oats. See if that helps in the lead up to December. Have a meal with my family on the 21.12 and would like to be able to fit into the next size down clothing by then. I could do with losing about 20kg total. Though that felt insurmountable when only losing 2 kilos in 5 months.

Would it work to switch the fast to the other end of the day? I love breakfast so skipping that wasn't working for me. Instead I stop eating at about 3pm and have the fast overnight.

ClearFruit · 30/09/2024 08:53

I'll join. I'm 70kg and am 5'9". Goal weight is 61kg. Am calorie counting using MFP and walk everywhere. Also need to up my gym use and knock the weekday drinks on the head.

ToddlerMumma · 30/09/2024 08:59

Height 5"2
SW 13st 12lbs
CW 13st 6lb
This week loss 1lb
Total loss 6lb or 2.7kg

Getting there very slowly! I moved more last week and tried a few new gym classes so will do that again this week. I'm logging everything in MFP and find I just can't snack inbetween meals or I go over my calories. I'm allowing myself 1,578 a day which is reasonable (until I try and add wine in!)
Have a good week everyone!

@okayhescereal

No way!! Haha! I can't deal with a hungry belly at bedtime! I don't know how you do that!

okayhescereal · 30/09/2024 09:11

@DrunkTinkerbell40s I have a really big hot drink shortly before I go to bed, and usually head upstairs early. This weekend I was away with friends and often up till 11pm or later. That was a struggle!

MangoLove · 30/09/2024 10:21

Hey ladies,

Looks like there has been a lot of lbs lost in the team this week. Well done all! Its motivating to see that consistency does actually pay off.

@ClearFruit Welcome on board.

I'm the definition of 'Falls off on the weekend'! I'm so annoyed with myself. I need to get back to the drawing board. I got 91,143k steps last week (but the weekend was rubbish). I'm not even frustrated, I'm just upset with the fact that I know what works - but will power drops off on Sat/Sun.

@DrunkTinkerbell40s - With my 20:4 fast (only did 2 last week) - I have lots of water, a morning coffee using skinny milk a tea with skinny milk and then hot lemon water. Its not a fast in the sense of 0 calories, but better than what i was doing before

So, my stats for Sept
01/09 - 89.1
09/09 - 88.2
16/09 - 85.9
23/09 - 85.9
CW on 30/09 - 85.9 Same the last 3 weeks! (I did weigh in at 85.5 mid week)

Sept loss: 3.2kg (7lbs)

11 full weeks before Xmas - 10.9kg to GW - I need a kilo a week! Whelp!!

Any advise/tips welcome. I don't feel my usual chirpy, motivational, positive self

OP posts:
okayhescereal · 30/09/2024 10:34

@MangoLove I don't have advise for not falling off the wagon, but may have some for the mentality. The advice I keep giving myself is...a kilo/2.2lbs a week would be fab-u-lous! Getting to that 10kg goal by Christmas, yes!! But, if you actually only managed 7kilos, or 5, or 9 or whatever, that's still weight off that you wanted off. Every loss is getting you closer to the goal even if the end date needs to be a bit flexible.

In September you lost 7lbs...that's about the equivalent of

  1. The average newborn
  2. A medium-Sized Watermelon
  3. A compact bowling ball (usually weighs between 6 to 8 pounds)
  4. 24 inch LED monitor

When I used to feel a bit crap about my weight loss I'd put the equivalent weight on the kitchen or bathroom scales and then lift it. Usually made me feel better!!

MangoLove · 30/09/2024 13:06

@okayhescereal Thank you so much. Just come back to read this and putting it into perspective really helps.

I'm beating myself up because of what could have been for Sept if i had been as disciplined on the weekends as I am during the week. But, we are moving into a new month and if I can achieve another 7lbs in October - that's actually a whole stone since SW - I'll be in the 12 stone bracket!

Moral - celebrate what I've actually done and think less about what I wanted to achieve.

October is going to be my month of being more intentional on the weekends as that is really where I royally f&*! up. Maybe a Sunday morning weigh in will make me do a little better on a Saturday - just thinking out loud.

I emotionally ate a bacon roll this morning, so no fast per se. It was yummmy - but I'm drinking water for the rest of the day and planning a teryaki salmon & veg dinner.

@TwilightAb @RedHotChilliPreppers @ToddlerMumma @DrunkTinkerbell40s - well done again on your losses so far! Roll on the next 11 weeks of losses

@rockingaroundthemulberrybush - I feel your frustration and like the lovely @MadamTeapot said, it could be hormonal. You sound like you are doing the right things. Would you think about switching your full fats for a low fat alternative for a week or 2 - just to see how that feels?

OP posts:
Boicsgoog · 30/09/2024 20:03

Well done on all the losses!

I only joined part way through September so today was my third weekly weigh in and I'm down a total of 8lb.

I've massively cut back on calories, snacking, diet fizzy drinks (I'm sure they make me crave sweet snacks). Barely any added sugar, although plenty of fruit and veg and drinking lots of water which is a first for me! I've also unintentionally cut out lots of carbs - I've been having yoghurt and fruit for breakfast and salads for lunch rather than toast in the morning and a sandwich for lunch.

SW: 13st 7lb
CW: 12st 13lb

Target for Oct: I'd like to get under 12 and a half stone by the end of the month ... obvs more would be great - so 7lb would be fab taking me to 12st 6lb.

PrincessofWells · 30/09/2024 20:31

Hi, I lost 8lb in September, but fell off the wagon today, climbing back on tomorrow for hopefully another 4 - 6lb in October, following mostly an Asian diet, with no processed foods. Finding it hard to stay motivated though.

happytobemrsg · 30/09/2024 20:35

I hope it’s not too late to join! I want to lose about 18lb by end of January if possible. I’m 4 months post partum with DC3, aged 36 & really seeing how much harder it is to lose the weight.

I want to make the most of my maternity leave to exercise. I was doing really well (yoga/gym 4x a week) then COVID hit or household & I'm only just feeling up to it again. they have changed the yoga schedule/teachers at my gym which I’m not very happy about. Hoping it’s just because my favourite teacher is on holiday or something.

Diet-wise, I’ve just started doing 16:8 intermittent fasting. Today is Day 3 😬 I quite like this as nothing is off limits during the eating window, I’m just being more mindful with portion control, making healthier choices. I tend to eat crap watching the tv at night so not eating after 7pm is TOUGH.

SW 10st 0.4lb (end July)
CW 9st 10.4lb
TW 8st 7lb

I’d love to be closer to 9st 7lb by end of October

MadamTeapot · 01/10/2024 04:38

Feeling positive for October, have upped my daily steps and greatly reduced calories by no snacking. Urge for processed food has massively dropped. Focus will be on water and a daily walk, and not getting obsessed with scales!

Swearwolf · 02/10/2024 07:33

I'm feeling positive too! Weighed in at 64.1kg which is almost a kilo down - slow going for some, but as long as I keep going in the right direction I'll be happy.

I've had a big eating weekend as it was my son's birthday, so dinner out, cake, fizz etc. And I didn't really want any of it! I'm planning to go sober for October, as the alcohol is what packs on the weight for me. Without it, better eating habits follow. I've been sticking to my plan to exercise four times a week, even if it's just a short slow run I am still getting out. Planning on a YouTube yoga this lunchtime. I've also started taking collagen for my skin and joints.
