Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

Jaq27 Glad you feel better on adjusting/omitting the food in your diet and are on a downward trajectory and feeling better
GrammarTeacher I also did RC diet, SW and WW in the past. I have carried some wisdom from all three through to now. Calorie deficit is the way to go I feel.
WishIhad Welcome! sounds like you have a plan. My tip is to drink more water and aim to stop eating around 6pm. Start with little changes which becomes habit, then choose the next change. I find that trying too much in one go sets me up for a fall. Good luck!
Mumwith Gosh, go-you with the exercise. Glad you feel your MH and PH is much improved; they go hand-in-hand. I'm with you on drawing a line under the recent indulging and am feeling quite motivated. Last night at 9pm, I dragged my reluctant ass off to the gym. A 35 minute hike was tough but burned over 200 calories. When I left, it felt good and was glad I went. I am so motivated to be a size 14 by Christmas.

@CakeFace1234 half a stone! That's great! Well done you!

I've just booked a few days in Italy with friends in October. The thought of that Easyjet seatbelt is already making me jittery. I breathe a huge sigh of relief when it fastens so have a few weeks to work on it!

Jaq27 · 15/08/2025 14:38

Hi @CakeFace1234 @Petra42 @Mumwithbaggage - thanks for checking in.

I've had a rocky couple of weeks. First my mum came to stay while she was having work done on her house. She bought us wine every night to say thanks ... I ate more and drank more to get through the week!
Then a friend's son from Australia came to stay for a week. He is only 18 so I felt I had to cook big men's meals for the 3 of them (and me). We also went out a lot and had panini, ice creams, chips, pub dinners etc. And drank every night ...

So the result is I am BACK UP to 12 stone 5lbs.
I have to lose the same boring 3lbs to get back to where I was in April :(
I know it's my own fault and my lack of control ... but having guests makes it hard to stay on track.
Ah well.

SW: 13 stone 3lbs
CW: 12 stone 5lbs
BMI: 32.7 :( :(
TW: 10 stone

On the plus side I was showing the Ozzie around and did a lot of steps while he was here.

Have a good weekend everyone x

Jaq27 · 15/08/2025 14:51

Hi @OldGreyBoots I did WW a few years ago.

It might have been the group leader/group, but I didn't do too well on it. I liked the points system and the website, and the way you could balance your food points with exercise points, but motivation to achieve personal targets was lacking. I lost about 3lbs over the months I was in the group.

I lost around 2 stone on SW because the group was very driven, and it felt rewarding to hit your targets and get a loss. BUT I didn't like all the so-called 'healthy choices' and the sugary stuff in the plan.
Of course when I stopped SW the weight went back on again (and more).

After 30-odd years of dieting I have come to believe that it's up to individuals to build healthy habits into their lives. Things you can stick to that make the difference.
Having said all that, you might find WW works for you. Let us know!

CakeFace1234 · 15/08/2025 18:12

Mumwith - Wow! Italy with friends sounds absolutely wonderful. Great incentive to keep on track - know what you mean about those seatbelts though!
Jaq27 Life is for living; your mum probably had a lovely time relaxing with a glass of wine with you and your friend's son had a blast, I am sure. 3lb isn't bad at all for 2 weeks. If you did lots of walking, you might find it evens out quite soon.

I have just had roast chicken salad, no bread, no rice, no chips and it was still lovely, did indulge with a small bowl of ice-cream. Am off to the gym with my boys in a couple of hours to redress the balance.

I am so determined to get the scales to start with a 13.

Have a great weekend all.

Petra42 · 29/08/2025 05:06

Hi all, just checking in as have been away. Congratulations to all about their losses, we have got this!

It really felt very cathartic being away as I was on the local beaches every day and how refreshing it was to see so many people chilled and confident with their physiques. Pretty much everyone wore bikinis (not me). Most were locals. Even slimmer women had cellulite. Men with their bellies. But all looked really relaxed and happy. Made me wonder if we put way too much pressure on ourselves here in the UK to look a certain way/only then we would be happy.

Dollyparot200 · 02/09/2025 08:42

Weighted today and I'm weighing 88.7 I'm so happy 😊 my measurements remain the same but im a 16 now I was size 20-22 ish.
Sw 119
W 88.7
Tw 80
When I eventually get to 80 I will readdress and see what weight I will be happy with, when I started I just needed a realistic goal.

Petra42 · 02/09/2025 09:21

Very sad today, weight has gone over the 100kg mark. I just dont know where to turn. Do I starve myself? I had planned to make a giant frittata for lunch for the week but now im thinking should I eat at all. Saw pictures of myself and I have a nice face but my belly just makes me cringe. Seriously considering whether WLI are for me.

Jaq27 · 02/09/2025 12:00

That’s amazing @Dollyparot200 !!! And a great strategy. It’s the achievable wins that keep us going.

Ahh @Petra42 try not to beat yourself up x you’ve just come back from holiday and no doubt relaxed and enjoyed yourself with eating and drinking. Your last post was so body positive too. Please try to keep that feeling in mind. Every day is a new start. Every week is a new week. Hth xx

CakeFace1234 · 02/09/2025 15:03

Dolly well done on the loss! Huge progress and dropping 4+ dress sizes must feel fantastic. Well done.
Petra I agree with Jaq, don't be too hard on yourself. Holidays are for enjoying and relaxing. Today is a new day. The weather is cooler now so it's easier to go for long walks and autumn clothes are more forgiving than summer clothes.

I am not weighing in this week as I know I have over-indulged on home made bread all weekend and didn't want to see the numbers.

Petra42 · 02/09/2025 16:01

Hi - might be obvious but how does one replicate what the weight loss injections do? Do you just not eat? I know two men on it who ate loads before, but now are too scared to eat as they feel sick, but the weight is coming off significantly. I am scared to do the WLI but i thought why cant i just try and do what its doing, myself!

@Jaq27 so when away, i felt great - loads of fresh food, less carbs, it was amazing. It's only when ive been back, got on the scales and im up 2kg. In my mind i thought id lose it. I feel very ashamed at the numbers. I put my numbers into my BMI and i effectively need to lose 40kg to be in the healthy weight.

CW 100kg
GW 85kg
BMI ideal 65kg

Mumwithbaggage · 02/09/2025 22:13

@Petra42 please don't beat yourself up about it and don't feel ashamed. You had a lovely time. Now start again without feeling bad about your lovely holiday.

I'm not weighing myself but definitely losing weight by eating mainly protein and doing more exercise and more steps. Feeling more energetic too.

Maybe you should do what I did? Book a cheap flight. On an Easyjet flight in just over a month with a friend, That godawful tiny seat and seatbelt with my horrid stomach! Enough to keep me off the snacks and on the exercise! Still not sure I'll feel comfortable on the flight but I can't sit at home for ever x

Off to salsa round the kitchen - 359 steps till I get to 10000!!

Petra42 · 13/09/2025 07:10

@Mumwithbaggage that's interesting about easyjet as I didnt realise tight seat belts there was a thing! And yup, it was tight and I was surprised!

Im actually doing 18k steps a day, not really drinking tons of water. I feel bloated, so even my size 18 jeans feel tight at times. Having one meal a day but portion size is an issue. Weight is not going below 100kg. I have an underactive thyroid and peri menopausal. I dont post much here because I feel crap. Friend is saying starve for a bit to actually get the scales moving!

Petra42 · 13/09/2025 07:12

Been looking at Rosie Henshaw on instagram, very pretty but clearly on injections as dramatically lost weight. I keep thinking I have a nice face but my belly just let's me down!

Jaq27 · 13/09/2025 13:47

Hi all,
I've been away for a week in Devon ... come back 2lbs heavier so I'll be losing the same old boring 2lbs AGAIN.
Been stuck at 12.4 since April. I get down a lb or two then something happens/guests come to stay/anniversary treats and it goes right back on.
Have to say I am not beating myself up too much ... it's just self-control and I am aware when I make my choices.
Hi @Petra42 well, you made good choices on your time away -- be proud of yourself for that! I used to eat whatever I liked on holiday but this time I also chose salads and lighter options (sitting opposite DH eating pie & chips, big fat burger & chips etc.) but I did have quite a bit of wine and a few cocktails. Plus a pasty on the beach! So not surprised I'm 2lb up again.
Please don't starve yourself - I've heard it can be counter-productive as the body goes into 'famine-mode' and it gets even harder to lose weight. And well done on the steps - that is amazing. Keep smiling x
Well done on keeping up with the activity too @Mumwithbaggage
I did 10k a day walking in Devon but the weather has been bloody awful since we got back on Monday so have only done around 7k on and off this week.
Have good weekends all x

CakeFace1234 · 15/09/2025 09:01

Petra try drinking enough water, 6-8 glasses is the recommendation although I know that amount is hard I find it does aid weight loss; especially as you are waking 18K steps a day, that must be a few miles. I think it's tiny steps with changes that seems hard at first then become habit. I stopped having a bun with my burger when I do burgers at home, wrap it in lettuce, It's feels like a nicer choice now that I'm used to it. I am going to try to focus on sugar intake this week. Glad you are confident in your looks, a huge boost - all I see are jowls and chins! Good luck this week.

Jaq I feel the same, 2 up, 2 down. You might find it comes off over the next few days if you were walking lots, my body has a satellite delay with exercise and numbers. Fingers crossed. Having a pasty on the beach in Devon is a must.

The Easyjet seatbelt has become my incentive now, I am going away for a few days in a month and my middle is a problem area, it is related to the pre-diabetic thing apparently. They take a waist measurement at the classes.

Have a great week all.

Mumwithbaggage · 20/09/2025 14:54

Hello everyone! Hope you've all got a bit of sunshine this weekend.

I've just been out in a pair of jeans that did up standing up for the first time today! A bit tight but I'm still pleased with myself.

I'm feeling just very slightly more confident about my seatbelt situation in just over two weeks.

CakeFace1234 · 24/09/2025 09:46

Hi All

Mumwith well done on the jeans! It did make me smile as I lay down to do mine up last week, reminded me of the 80s when we wore skin tight jeans and had to lay down to put them on. Fingers crossed for the seatbelt. Facing the seatbelt for me is in about a month. eek.

I had another pre-diabetic club meeting and now I am being more mindful about sugar. They advised if you do have sugary things, cover with some protein to regulate the spike, say, Greek yogurt and I am being mindful of that. I had lemon drizzle cake at the weekend with some soured cream and actually, it was lovely. I am drinking more water. Haven't been to the gym due to a nasty cold but hopefully will be back by the weekend.

Mumwithbaggage · 11/10/2025 10:22

Hi all

Hope everyone is well and keeping on with the weight loss slog.

Just wanted to update after my Easyjet trip. The seatbelt fastened without even cutting me in half!! Persuaded my friend I needed the window seat both ways and promised that next year when we do a trip I will have a considerably smaller bum and will sit wherever.

Had a great few days in Italy - lots of walking, much of it with my backpack on, so the odd pizza didn't do much harm. Well, at least my jeans still fit!

Jaq27 · 11/10/2025 14:52

Great stuff @Mumwithbaggage !! What a triumph :) And the trip sounds wonderful.
I love lemon drizzle cake @CakeFace1234 and adding sour cream sounds delicious. Hope you’re over your cold soon!
Me … I’ve been a bit quiet because I haven’t got much to report. Put a few pounds on :( mostly down to eating and drinking to soothe depression and boredom as I haven’t had any work since June.
Still getting out walking most days, which is better than blobbing out I suppose.
have good weekends all x

Petra42 · 12/10/2025 07:47

@Mumwithbaggage sounds like a fab trip! I'd have probably eaten tons given their rep for food!

@Jaq27 what field are you in, a few pounds here and there isn't terrible at all

I couldnt remember if id posted here but I've tried to stop putting myself under so much pressure as I think the stress makes the weight stay on. So no daily weigh ins. I've changed my eating to 2 meals a day, so I have two poached eggs on sourdough plus an avocado for lunch (after 12) then a normal dinner. Before I was on one meal a day. It definitely helps me not overdo dinner, i then feel more energised and less bloated. Im also then more 'regular' so to speak. My family think I look less bloated too!

Still need to drink more water. But much happier healthwise and mentally. Im walking loads and although its tough doing 20k steps a day, its getting easier.

Moral is im trying hard to be kinder to myself.

Jaq27 · 12/10/2025 11:35

@Petra42 i think we all have to find what works for us as individuals. Glad family are noticing your changes. I am in control of my portion sizes (used to give myself same as DH and DS but as I am small frame and just over 5ft it was obviously too much). The issues for me as well as the boredom/depression is having guests to stay. DD and her partner came and I felt I had to cook elaborate breakfasts and dinners over 5 days - plus staying up drinking and playing board games. All good fun, but puts the weight loss journey back a few pounds.
in answer to your question i work as a concept creative/copywriter so i come up with ideas for ads etc and write anything from tv and video to websites, brochures, presentations, marketing materials etc.
the industry has died this year and our own business lost its main client. I work with DH who is a designer/art director. If it stays like this we’ll have to close down the studio and look for jobs. Daunting as I approach 60 …

I want to add that 20k steps is a lot! I’m happy if I do 8! well done x
