On holiday and after a stressful four years I'm ready to get fit and healthy and lose two stone. I'm going to start at the beginning of September. Would anyone like to join and motivate each other?

Hi, me please. Am 39 and would like to lose 21lbs by start of November for my birthday

BlueSkies81 · 17/08/2024 16:54

Me please. I need to lose a lot more than 2st but getting started with losing that much for Christmas would be great.

Solasum · 17/08/2024 16:56

Yes! I am 40. So far have halved my portions after realising they are way bigger than they should be.

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 16:57

@GhibliCat @BlueSkies81 fantastic! Sounds great. I will be doing MFP and trying to get in a lot of steps and some exercise two or three times a week. I'm a single mum to a toddler, so time is really limited but I need the push to make healthier choices.

If anyone is on MFP we could follow each other?

@Solasum great idea! It's the little changes that add up!

I'm planning to up my water intake to three litres a day and and snack on apples when I'm hungry.

Currently in France and now look half croissant and half baguette

Yes please!! I am desperate to lose the same, about 2 stone. This is the heaviest I have been since being pregnant with my second child 23 years ago. I have, over the years, been a healthy weight and maintained it through running and working out and generally eating well. However, after becoming perimenopausal I have gained 2 stone and feel disgusting. I can no longer run due to joint pain and working out in general has become more difficult as earlier this year I was diagnosed with arthritis and have good days and bad days. I have just, in general, been through a tough couple of years, my eldest daughter moved out and my Mum passed away suddenly, all contributing towards me not really taking care of myself and also with being perimenopausal I have just lost myself a little. I no longer recognise the overweight mess I see when I look in the mirror. I turn 50 in October and this is not what I wanted to be like at this stage of my life. I massively need to overhaul my life and my eating, become more active and lay off the sodding wine!!!

Sorry for the life story, I have massively waffled 😂

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:24

Waffle away @Lulubellamozarella sounds like you have a lot on your plate and I'm so sorry. I used to be for and healthy and enjoy everything in moderation. Now I just comfort eat all the time! We can do it and be each others' cheerleader. With your arthiritus, it must make it hard to exercise as freely as you once did. Hoping we can all spur each other on with some low impact workout routines! Xxx

Yes, but not until after my holiday which is 22 to 29 Aug

Then I'm all in!

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:28

@IDontHateRainbows I'm on holiday at the moment drinking and eating carbs and cheese as if it was an Olympic sport! I'm not starting properly until September. We can make that the official start date.

We could also do a monthly challenge. Eg for September walk 31 miles?

Thank you xx The comfort eating is definitely me and I get so annoyed with myself for doing it. I was the advocate for everything in moderation and it worked so well up until this last couple of years when life has just felt a little tougher than usual. So I have just wanted to comfort eat and drink too much wine. Coupled with the lack of ability to exercise as much as I used to its no wonder the pounds have piled on. But I feel in a better place at the moment and feel ready to tackle this xxx

Ooohhh I LOVE the monthly challenge idea!!!

Gulbekian · 17/08/2024 17:32

I'm in - although, at 55, I think it may take me longer than three months to lose two stones. Still, who dares, wins 😁.

I need to think my strategy through in detail but it'll be based on intermittent fasting.

Warmfeet · 17/08/2024 17:33

Me too. Comfort and boredom eater, really want to get it under control.

Vickyspeaking654 · 17/08/2024 17:34

I’d love to join the thread if I may please?
I like the idea of starting on 1st September; gives me time to get my mind-set sorted in advance and reduce carbs and sugar!

Weeteeny · 17/08/2024 17:35

Me! I have 2 stone or more to lose. I am getting married in December and my wedding attire is a size smaller !

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:35

@Lulubellamozarella can totally relate! I'm so inactive and my sporadic eating/snacking and lack of movement has caught up with me.

Also, well aware that I'm not going to be perfect in this challenge but any changes are better than what I'm doing now!

I'll join on here, I need to lose a lot more than 2 stone too but breaking it into more manageable goals. I'm 42.

My worst habits are too much alcohol and I love a takeaway. I have just been diagnosed as diabetic so time to really make some long lasting changes and seriously up my protein, vegetables and healthy fats.

I don't overeat so I know the calories are mainly coming from booze and high calorie takeaways too often during a very stressful last year. I have always been overweight though, I can't even imagine how it would feel to but from the normal size range off the rack, but that's a long road away. I really want to start nourishing my body.

bethepeace · 17/08/2024 17:38

Me please! Same age and weight loss goals, not starting until September, but definitely up for this. Thanks for the thread. We can do it!

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:38

@Gulbekian @Vickyspeaking654 @Warmfeet @Weeteeny welcome aboard!!

Yay to fitting in wedding dresses and also it doesn't matter if you're 42 or 55! Even if we all just start making healthier choices and moving more until Christmas that will be a bonus.

I'm not sure how these threads actually work. Maybe we do an official launch party in 1st September.

Does anyone have an air fryer? They seem super good for cheap, healthy meals and snacks. But don't know whether it's a marketing gimmick

OP posts:
Warmfeet · 17/08/2024 17:41

I do - great for crispy bacon, croutons and sweet potato fries. Don't use it for much else tbh.

Pinkclarko · 17/08/2024 17:43

Can I join? I’m at least a stone overweight, built up as a result of stress eating/perimenopause. I do exercise at least a handful of times a week but my step count is rubbish due to a sedentary job so food and steps has to be part of the answer. I’ll be in a better position to change habits once the kids are back to school.

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:43

Welcome @bethepeace not planning on starting until September either and yes we bloody will do it!

@Itsdare you can do it! Aim for two stone before Christmas like the rest of us, even if we lose two stone between us it will be better than nothing. Also, yummy what's your favourite takeaway? I'm sure we can find 'healthier' versions and also if we reach certain goals we can have treat meals!

Gulbekian · 17/08/2024 17:44

I love the monthly challenge idea too! It would give us something smaller to focus on along the way.

frenchbreadandbites · 17/08/2024 17:46

@Warmfeet I think I just dribbled reading that food list haha

@Pinkclarko welcome and yes join! Great you do exercise a few times a week. What do you do?

I think my step count has averaged around 1000k a day due to working from home.

I think us aiming for 10k steps three-four times a week is a good challenge too

OP posts:
Saschka · 17/08/2024 17:48

Hey I’m going to join too - weight has crept up since lockdown, mostly due to inactivity - I used to cycle or run from work every day, and now I’m in walking distance and haven’t replaced my exercise or decreased my portion size!

Losing 10kg would be great - really I need to lose 15, but 10 would get me looking like my normal self again.
