Morning all!

Thought I'd start a new thread as I find the really long ones off-putting! Hope that's OK.

Well haven't posted much over the weekend. Drank too much wine on Friday and Saturday and ate lots I shouldn't. Went out for brunch yesterday but didn't do too badly. A few glasses of champagne, some sushi, a noodle salad thing, some couscous and salmon and prawns and some lamb chops with a small amount of mashed potatoes. Dessert was a small serving of creme brulee. Then only had a slice of toast in the evening.

And..........drum roll..................

I have lost 2 lbs!

So list is as follows:

Danceswithamuffintop
Buda - lost 2 lbs
MMJ
Sheherazdethegoat
Twiglett
Beansprout
AnnieMac
Pira teCat
JingleyJen
Keepcalmandcarryon
AnAngelwithin
HuffPuff
Niecie
SparklyPrincess

Hope you all did well.

Feel the fear and do it anyway! Seriously, I'm sure you won't be the only person there who's starting again. After the first session (or first 2 minutes), you won't feel embarrassed at all. If you don't give it a go, you'll never know what you could achieve - you said yurself that just trying to do it on your own isn't working at teh moment.

The last one is tough - I know exactly what you mean. But joining in this thread means you've already admitted to yourself that youre not happy with your weight at the moment.

When you think about the wedding and having to wear something that fits rather than something you love and feel great in, how do you feel? Picture yourself in something gorgeous taht you've chosen cos you love it!

That's what finally made me determined to do something - I am just so sick of daily low-level misery that I'm always having to think "oh that's lovely but I could never wear it with this stomach/these thighs/these bingo wings... I know it's a bit shallow but I'm sick of envying my slimmer friends / random women in the street. I'm fed up of feeling unsexy all the time. If I could be big and happy with it then I wouldn't worry but am finally facing up to the fact that I'm not happy and if I do something now I'll enjoy the summer a lot more.

[sorry, I'm rambling now!!!]

knat · 05/03/2008 10:38

i lost 20lbs in 3 weeks by having cereal for breakfast insteaed of toast (saves about 200+ calories there) soup and oatcakes or dry crackers for lunch and normal tea but having them on a side plate so reduce portion (also if have oven chips with meal usually i just have salad etc). Snacks are alpen light bars (60cals) or fruit or occasionally yoghurt. Not having bread has really made the difference. I have it once or twice a week now instead of twice a day!!!!

bellabelly · 05/03/2008 11:09

20lbs in 3 weeks is amazing! I have given up bread, rice and pasta and already it's making such a difference to my tum. Still a long way to go though for me! Having had twins in August, I'm wondering if it's ever going to look right again!

piratecat · 05/03/2008 11:26

bella what are you substituting for those staples??

I am eating german ryebread on some days instead of normal bread. I have also tried some spelt bread, whicj has wheat, but isn't so refined.

Also eating porridge instead of other cereals when i can.

bellabelly · 05/03/2008 11:39

piratecat, it's a lowcarb diet so often having things like cabbage/broccoli/cauli/spinach etc with whatever meat i'm eating. Made a shepherd's pie last week using cauliflower mash for the topping. it sounded horrid and I was very but actually it was yummy.

Think I'm "allowed" to reintroduce bread or some sort of low carb bread later on but not yet so I'm not thinking about it. Weirdly, I haven't missed bread at all whereas I used to eat it all the time - toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, etc.

Buda · 05/03/2008 11:46

tmmj - have you decided? A friend of mine swears by SW - has been doing it for years. And years. And is still a size 18/20. Yet I know from reading the magazines etc that some people find it really good and manage to stick to it and lose weight successfully and keep it off. I never really 'got' SW. I used to do WW - again did it for years - did the cycle you describe of lose a pound, gain a pound etc. It really is soul destroying.

In desperation 4 years ago I started doing Atkins on-line with E-diets. I found it fantastic. I could eat. I could eat fab food. I NEVER counted the carbs in vegetables though. I didn't want to cut out veg as that would make it too unhealthy. I lost 2 stone in 3 months. And I felt great on it too. Moved to Budapest around then though and haven't managed to get back to that frame of mind though. Am seriously tempted again though. Particularly as DH really likes it too- esp in the summer when we can BBQ every evening and just have meat or fish and salad for dinner.

I do think thought that long-term low GI is the way to go. The food is healthy and filling.

Oh and yes I did gain back the weight i lost on Atkins and then some! I found it instilled in me an "all or nothing" approach to dieting. If I wasn't on Atkins I wasn't dieting and therefore I ate anything and everything around me. Am now trying to re-educate myself and get back to the swing of being constantly aware of what i am eating and making the healthier choices.

ah ok, low carbs. God its so confusing, which to choose I mean.

I am just trying to cut out the silly 'grabing stuff from the cupboard' style eating.

Cutting down all round, not anything in particular, altho as u see in my last post I am trying to cut out alot of wheat.

piratecat · 05/03/2008 11:48

oh forgot to ask, is anyone a fellow vegetarian, or is just me!

Buda · 05/03/2008 11:57

I'm not veggie piratecat. A confirmed meat eater I'm afraid!

I think cutting down on wheat is sensible. I feel so much less bloated if I do that.

bellabelly - that caluliflower mash is delicious isn't it?

OP posts:
piratecat · 05/03/2008 12:44

whats for lunch??

Buda · 05/03/2008 12:46

I had a cold sausage left over from DH's dinner last night - yum! I love cold sausages!

Left the other one for DH though!

Then I had a slice of Irish brown bread and a mug of home-made sweet potato and veggie soup. Am contemplating another mug of it as twas yummy.

OP posts:
piratecat · 05/03/2008 12:48

soup sounds cool.

I think i will go and peruse my fridge. I feel I must have a big salad. With what tho.

god i am very bored today, and feeling lazy.

bellabelly · 05/03/2008 12:57

I am back from my walk - I must look demented while I'm marching along. Lunch for me is going to be sausages and a cheese and onion omelette.

Piratecat, I know I'm being boring about the India Knight Atkins stylee diet but it is really worth a try if you feel like it. Although it might be harder if you are vegetarian - my staples at the mo are meat, chicken and fish. BUT there must be lots of protein in tofu etc?

sagacious · 05/03/2008 12:58

Sandwich for me (reduced fat houmous with salad on wholemeal)
I am a complete breadaholic, I could live on sandwiches.

Just got back from a shopping trip with dd, she had a glass of milk and a gingerbread man at the cafe I had a skinny americano, I did eat the teeny biscuit it came with so thats my snack for the morning

MMJ Have you tried Rosemary Connelly's diet clubs? Personally the woman makes me inwardly heave but the concept of exercise with the diet does make sense.

I lost 2 stone with slimming world (but then got pg with my ds) Then went to WW, lost the babyweight and gor PG with dd . As I'm not planning anymore dc's I'm going to extra carefull IYKWIM !

piratecat · 05/03/2008 13:02

ok just put some eggs on to boil, wil have one with my salad.

just don't want bread/rice or anything today.

I will have a look Bellababy. I rrely eat tofu, as tbh its not tasty unless deep fried with garlic or something!!!

I do eat some meat substitutes from time to time.

AnAngelWithin · 05/03/2008 13:49

hello all

i am really struggling to stay interested. i have got so much going on in my life at the moment i am finding it hard to keep up!!cheese on toast for lunch today and i felt so guilty afterwards. its only a week til the wedding and i am starting to give up! i walked 20 minutes to school this morning then had ds assembly, walked home, left dd in the pushchair and got the dog and went for a brisk walk for an hour before my mother turned up for half an hour. then we walked to nursery to get ds and back. got to go to school again at 3. I am so tired!!

cottage pie for tea tonight. the meat is simmering on the stove as i speak. dd is in bed and i should get on my stepper for a bit or something but i am so tired, i don't think I could manage it!!

bellabelly · 05/03/2008 14:56

AAW, you are doing so well - don't give up now! it must be hard with everything else that's been going on but you are walking loads and staying on top of it. Have you got an outfit sorted for the wedding yet? If so have you tried it on recently? I bet you would see a difference from a couple of weeks ago...

Wisp · 05/03/2008 14:58

I'm a veggie too Piratecat, was a vegan for 6 years, but when the kids came, we decided to go veggie again.Ive done the atkins diet as a veggie, and it put me off eggs for life!

Argh this diet thing just isn't working for me,Im following weightwatchers points as I need to know when to stop! I'll have a great day, and do an hours aerobics, followed by a rubbish day, where I think I'll restart tomorrow, and it just goes on and on like that for weeks.! bangs head on desk!
I think it's called self sabotage, I'll do some reading up on it, and see if I can crack this!

I'm the lowest weight in 6 years, 4 1/2 stone from my heaviest weight but still have 2 stone to go, and if I put my mind to it I can do it in time for summer.

Sorry for the ramble!!

AnAngelWithin · 05/03/2008 16:12

yes bella i have and outfit. i am being bridesmaid its this one i havent tried it on since i first tried it on 6 weeks ago. I have told her i could do with trying it on this weekend.

Buda · 05/03/2008 16:28

AAW - are you taking any vitamins? A few years ago I was exercising a lot and dieting and I got exhausted. A guy I worked with was really into fitness etc and he said I needed to take a really good multivit plus mega B&C. Also recommended magnesium.

OP posts:
AnAngelWithin · 05/03/2008 16:38

no im not taking vitamins. never thought about it really. tbh i suppose i thought that if i was eating more healthily on a diet then i shouldnt need them??

bellabelly · 05/03/2008 17:28

AAW, it's a lovely colour, v dramatic. Shame that you haven't actually got it at home to try on. Do you get to keep the dress after the wedding?
