minor self indulgent post, if I may

Just had my employment medical and apparently my pulse and blood pressure is that of an athlete!!!! Wow! So the exercise is doing something then. But apparently "You do need to lose some weight" with a disapproving look at me.. no sh*t sherlock...

She was v suprised I could be that fit and not be losing weight! I didn't dare tell her about all the beer, chocolate and bacon butties....

nikkid21 · 05/03/2008 17:00

ow ow ow ow ow - did my first body pump class this morning and can hardly move already. Think i'll stick to spinning

Sw lurker - i don't know how many banabas it takes to bung up but our consultant said that while grapes and bananas are free if you have 'excessive' amounts the it will hinder you weight loss. She said excessive was 1lb grapes or more than 3 bananas a day. Why not chop up a whole melon and eat that all day instead ? Tesco have cantluope on bogof at the mo.

nikkid21 · 05/03/2008 17:01

banana not banabas

Riallymusttryharder · 05/03/2008 18:27

I don't think I could eat more than three bananas a day.

My sister said the same about eggs actually. Is that common, I've never noticed? She is a WW devotee though...

I did it. Just have to get to bedtime now and I've had a near-perfect day )DH cokked tea and possibly used a bit too much stir-fry sauce). I still have a HEb left for toast/egg mayo sandwich when the kids are in bed. I like a snacky supper - is that bad?

Riallymusttryharder · 05/03/2008 18:27

cooked, obviously

SWlurker · 05/03/2008 21:00

Well done Ria! I don't think a supper snack is bad, I think the more often you eat (well graze - not huge meals each time) it speeds up that precious metabolism!

I am tucking into possibly the most amazing SW thing I have ever tried - smash pizza! Its GORGEOUS and im making some more of the dough with mixed herbs in to take to work for munchies tomorrow

Ledodgy · 05/03/2008 22:30

Sorry I keep forgetting to update on this thread well i've been back for 4 weeks now the first week I only lost a pound then 1/2 a pound second week which I was pissed off with because last time I was losing 3 pounds a week but it was explained that it was probably still pregnnacy hormones and sure enough last week I lost 2 pounds then I'm on a weird first period this week and have been shit as well with a 30th and mothers day etc and have just weighed in and lost another 2 pounds. Hoping I can keep on track now I've figured if I can aim to lose 2 pounds a week for the next 8 weeks i'll only be 4 pounds heavier than when i became pregnant that time last year which would be cool and then hopefuly at target for my Birthday at the end of July.

sugarlumps · 06/03/2008 07:45

Morning girlys! 1/2lb off for me this week, which is very surprising as i thought i would have had a gain!
but back on track today, for a lighting weight loss week! (hopefully)
its the 13 hour shift today, so im packing my lunch box with 3 muller lights, 3 slices of fritatta, some plum toms, carrot sticks, and some savoury rice! i think that should keep me going until midnight, seeing as i have just had a quorn fry(light) up for brekki mmmmmm
here's to a good week!!!!!

lurker - whats smash pizza??????????? im intrigued!

OP posts:
SWlurker · 06/03/2008 08:35

Smash pizza - think it was in the magazine a while ago? Its just a HEa on Green.

Make up some smash thickly and leave it for 5 mins. I add mixed herbs.
Fry light a baking tray and shape the "dough" into a pizza shape and bung in the oven until crispy - I put mine in for about 15-20 mins on full blast, but I'm sure the original recipe had a temerature and time I've lost!
The smash goes sort of hard and brown like a crusty pizza and you can then top it with passata and a HEa of cheese - I did my passata with mixed herbs and garlic and reduced it down in a pan to be thicker first. (Warning I'm not sure this might make it syns?)
Put it back in the oven to melt cheese and serve. Considering its free I thought it was really yummy! You just might have to play with how long and how thick you make the dough.

p.s Make sure its free, some of the smash flavours aren't anymore so I just use a cheapo one I know is still free.

God I ate so much last night! Pizza and then quorn, passata and veggies - but I stuffed about 3 bowls of that think I'm taking the free foods concepts a bit too far, I really did eat a LOT yesterday!

Riallymusttryharder · 06/03/2008 10:25

morning. Well done Ledodgy - how old is your LO?

Guess what - Ria's got a halo

I fell asleep putting DS2 to bed last night so probably only had 5 syns yesterday - unheard of foe me - and no booze. I had my left-over HEb as toast when I got up to give DS3 his bottle in the early hours.

Just had my bacon & mushroom omeletee - yummy. Think I might pop out for some smash... that's my kind of eveing snack (something with pizza in it). I think if you reduced a tine of tomatoes instead of passata it would stay free?

Quorn sausages for tea - oh how I've missed them

Ledodgy · 06/03/2008 11:03

Thanks Rially. He's 9 weeks old (pic on profile) he's fab luckily a really easy baby which is good since he's my third.

missiesparkles · 06/03/2008 11:26

smash pizza is ammmmmaaaazing
I do mine in a breville for 35 mins and I end up with a nice snack - will try it in the oven thou!!

I use asda own brand smash which is 16p a packet

Ledodgy · 06/03/2008 11:31

Christie just read through your posts. Have you had your thyroid gland checked? Just a thought but if you are sticking to a diet and not losing weight you may have an under active thyroid which is very common in women. The other symptoms are tiredness, dry skin, and being quite thirsty.

SWlurker · 06/03/2008 12:02

Haven't got a clue about if it creates syns by reducing any veg, I haven't been told it does but I figured it'd be a bit like tomato puree concentrate which does have syns? I'm sure they'd be negligable even if so - I'm guessing but I would have thought 1/2 to 1 syn?

SWlurker · 06/03/2008 14:01

Well done Ria!

Christie, my leododgy might have a point the same thing happened to my mum, and they gave her medication to boost her thyroid and she's losing again.

Riallymusttryharder · 06/03/2008 17:05

I have my smash ... will be reporting back later

spent a damned fortune at the supermarket - again. It sure is cheaper to be fat

Riallymusttryharder · 07/03/2008 07:38

Morning. Didn't try the smash pizza, got caught up making a b'day card so never got round to making it. Put the lovingly made tomato, garlic and herb sauce (a tin of cheap tomatoes reduced with garlic and herbs then whizzed with the hand blender, cheaper than passata!) and the bit of cheese on some left-over baguette instead . Also had an extra packet (or two) of crisps and some wine. I am so CRAP at keeping focused once the kids are in bed.

On the upside (I know you're not supposed to weighted every day, but...) the scales still seems to be heading downwards, so that's keeping me from my bacon butty binge still.

I feel like it this morning though as my day out has been cancelled cos my sis is ill. But I've had a big bowl of fruit salad for first breakfast and will replan my day to be green I think (was planning original for lunch out), and will try hard. Fingers crossed.

Sorry for long and self-obsessed post.

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday.

Riallymusttryharder · 07/03/2008 07:39

my typing is terrible. I meant get weighed

Riallymusttryharder · 07/03/2008 11:26

This is silly - all I do is eat

had eggs, beans and potato cubes and a banana since I got back from school run. I am FULL!

could be interesting today as DH eating original and I'm on green...

toadette · 07/03/2008 11:51

Hi, I was wondering if I could join in with you all. I started SW two weeks ago with about a stone or so to lose. Did really well in first week and lost 3.5 lbs. Second week wasn't too hot, too much wine in the week and on mother's day plus a bit too much syn-ing foodwise meant stayed the same. I'm now a couple of days into week three and struggling a bit to get back the enthusiasm and discipline I had in week one.
Does anyone know if it's ok to save up syns during the week for the weekend or special occasion? I find I have days when I would need to use heaps of syns eg for some wine or takeaway, but also have days that I can manage on less than five or so.

I tend to do mostly green days. Is it better to do a mix of both?

Thanks, toadette

SWlurker · 07/03/2008 11:54

Ho hum had 15 syns yesterday and I didn't intend to have any... oh well at least it was within range, just means I need to keep an eye on those tia maria and diet cokes over the weekend. Housemate has a habit of pouring portions that are worth about 10 syns a go!

Very pleased with myself that I stopped the roses attack yesterday at 3, and when I was stuck for something quick to grab to eat before aerobics I scoured the shelves of the garage for the lowest calorie packet of crisps - quavars - and then only ate half the bag because it was a big bag.

Big challenge is my weekend. Can I keep a lid on my sins?
x

SWlurker · 07/03/2008 12:17

Hi Toadette! Nice to see some other names on here, Ria and me seem to be taking over recently

My consultant from a couple of years ago told me you can save them up for the weekend. Not sure if that stance has changed, but I knew a fair few ladies who used to be very successful doing that. they kept a record on their fridge and ticked off the syns up to 70 in a week. How many they had left was an indication of how synful their weekend could be!

I think the key is not to be too strict and say "i can't have" - because that can lead to failure, but what you're doing sounds sensible to me, if you don't feel deprived then have as few syns as you need most days, but if one day you really want a chocolate bar then use your syns on it and don't feel guilty that you haven't saved that day's worth

toadette · 07/03/2008 12:48

Cool, SWlurker, just what I was hoping to hear. Means I can continue to have a few days when I am bit norty on the wine and food then balance these out with some extra-good ones. I'm on a good day today, lots of fruit, couple of slices Nimble and boiled eggs. Trying to make up for yesterday...

BTW, how many syns in a helping of prawn crackers, anyone? Horrendous I'm sure.

nikkid21 · 07/03/2008 15:25

Prawn crackers are 2 syns EACH
Horrendous I know and I usually eat half a bag with my takeaway.

Rather than save syns up they flexi syn now. You cut back the rest of the week but on your flexi day you say 'OK i'm going to have 30 syns today'. You still have to count your 30 syns off through the day as it keeps you aware of what you are having. I did try it once and found that I didn't get to my allowance of 45 syns.

Personally I stick to 8/ 10 syns a day through the week knowing that I then have 35 syns or so to play with one night at the weekend. It just so happens that there are approx 30 syns in a bottle of red wine
