2.5lb a week (on average)

HawdMeBack · 29/05/2023 07:33

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

Can I join? Have been lurking a while, am doing ok but very much slower than 2.5lbs a week, more like 1lb which I guess is going in the right direction but can get annoying when you you just want it to hurry up!

SW 14:12
CW 13:13
GW 11

I have actually put on a pound this week 😥 not happy as I've been religiously calorie counting and not cheating but been on my period so am blaming that and just trying to ignore it and keep going

Hey,

Our SW, CW and GW are not far off each others! Well done on your weight loss to date, 1lb a week is great! 2.5lbs is a bit u realistic to be honest, doable for short periods but not easy (or healthy) to achieve long term.

The gain will def be down to your period so don't let it get you down!

So

11st 11lbs

i seem to be staying the same. I’ve been eating well.

eggs/chicken/rice/mushrooms & onions feature largely in my weekly diet

I started Caroline Girvan workout videos as I’m not quitting trying to slim down. Sure I’m doing something wrong so needed to mix it up.

I will do this. The only thing that has sunk in this time is realistically it’s going to take months and months to get this stubborn weight off!

I will do it! I am sick of flabby arms and feeling rubbish. I want to feel healthier and boost my chances of living longer etc!

HawdMeBack · 08/08/2023 17:05

Good attitude @Quitelikeit 👌

I'm booked into a Body Conditioning class tonight and could see it far enough! I'm shattered 🥴 but, I'm going 💪

Enjoy that class @HawdMeBack

id highly recommend doing the CG iron workout. It’s on YouTube for free. There’s 30 of them. You need dumbbells to start you off

Ilovedavidmitchell · 14/08/2023 06:31

How is everyone getting on? The scales haven't budged for me in 2 weeks 😢😢

-1.1lbs for me this week. A little disappointed it's not more as I gained the week before and hoped to lose that and a little more but need to just get used to this very slow pace I think. At least it's not going up again.

Sorry, missed this! Yes interesting we have a similar amount! I have PCOS and have many times worked out dates and targets based on 2-3lb weight loss but don't think i've ever achieved it. Trying to just be patient now as long as it's going down but it can be frustrating when you're working and not seeing much benefit.

I think with a larger amount to lose it can be demoralising when the target weight feels a long way off but am trying to set some interim targets and also get in the mindset that I will feel better along the way and not just suddenly when I get to the target weight. Like I already feel better having lost a stone and will hopefully continue to feel better as it goes.

HawdMeBack · 14/08/2023 10:50

@stillalongwaytogo I have PCOS too lol. We have a lot in common!

1.1lbs is great! A loss is a loss 👍 I agree, big goals are demoralising. Small milestones are more motivating (and seem more achievable).

Keep.doing what you're doing asnits working!

It's so frustrating when you gut a plateau! Maybe try and kick-start things again but doing no carb for a couple of days, that always gets things moving again for me 🤞

In all my excitement this morning (DS first day at nursery), I forgot to weigh myself when I got up 🤯 I am on my period though so will likely be up a couple of pounds so probably a good thing I didn't. I'm going to leave it till next week now x

OP posts:
Ilovedavidmitchell · 14/08/2023 15:09

@HawdMeBack yes I've decided I'm going to have salads for my dinners this week and get some more step in to increase the deficit. I have only lost 8lbs I thought I wouldn't plateau until I'd lost about a stone.

Oh yeah it feels so pointless weighing on your period. I was on last week and it was hell so you have my sympathies

Fuckedthen · 15/08/2023 20:08

I did weigh yesterday and no change. That's no change in two weeks 🤷🏼

I'm getting annoyed now but saw your advice @HawdMeBack. Schools are back tomorrow here so hopefully that will let me change up my schedule bit.

I'm back to work in 10 weeks. I'd really, really like to lose 1.5lbs a week until then. I caught a glimpse in the mirror unexpectedly the other day and I'm disgusted in myself.

HawdMeBack · 21/08/2023 06:52

WEIGH DAY

SW: 14st 5lbs
CW: 13st 5.4lbs
GW: 11st

No change for me in 2 weeks!

To be honest, I haven't been as strict as I was being in the beginning, so I'm just pleased not to have gained a couple of lbs.

Just under 6 weeks until I go on holiday and want to get down to 12.5st for that (2lbs a week between now and then). I'm going to do a kickstart this week, strict 1200cals a day and no treats!

I'd love to drop a dress size for my hols 🤞🤞🤞

-0.3lbs!

Sorry you haven't lost @HawdMeBack

I'm not happy with my 0.3lbs but also haven't been as strict as I was being before (although should still be in a deficit). I find seeing the scales go down very motivating and now I seem to be plateuing it's harder to keep going but I've got to around this weight before and got stuck and put it back on and am determined not do that again.

pontipinemum · 21/08/2023 10:16

@HawdMeBack hello, hope you don't mind if I join 😁

Sorry I've only skimmed the thread.

I have been cal counting/ upping my steps the last 4 weeks and I've lost 4lbs! Not very motivating. Anytime in the past when I joined SW or that I'd lost that in the 1st week!

I was about 12 stone before getting pregnant Nov 2021. Currently 13s 13lbs and my mini goal is 13st 4lbs

I am also TTC so could be all of nothing but I figure the lower my starting pregnancy weight the better. I would like to have my BMI back to the over weight, not obese category.

I have been breastfeeding DS for a year and have weaned him over the last few days. I had head bf helped you lose weight, that was not the case for me! Maybe initially but cluster feeding on the couch and eating a LOT of snacks doesn't help 😂also my appetite in the first few months was insane! I don't care about that and went with it I needed them.

But now, I need to get in it hand. I know 1lb a week is a loss and that's what I'd say to someone else but it doesn't feel like it. I normally do my official weigh in on a Wednesday

Fuckedthen · 21/08/2023 21:27

WEIGH DAY

SW: 150lbs
CW: 143lbs
GW: 130lbs

Finally, some movement 🥳

Hello

sw: 12 stone (guesstimate)
cw: 11 9lbs
tw: 10st (months away)

I’ve been trying to lose weight for nearly three months now.

One day the scales even said 11st 7lbs!

Im trusting the process, eating healthy and also doing work out videos via youtube

well done @HawdMeBack this is definitely a long term thing and at my age it just isn’t possible to drop a stone in a month it takes months I think to lose a stone so maybe in December I’ll be closer to the 11st mark!

I'm the same @stillalongwaytogo this is the third time this year I've managed to lose a stone. I lost the motivation before when the weekly losses slowed down/plateaued and l put the weight neck on. Like you, I'm determined not to do that again. I must admit though, I've hit a sticky patch. I've not fallen off the wagon as such, but I'm wobbling and finding it hard to get back on it properly. I keep telling myself, I'll do better tomorrow!

Hi @pontipinemum 1lb a week really is good! Well done. The slower and steadier it comes off, the more likely it is to stay off. In terms.of breastfeeding and weight loss, for a lot of women, they don't start to see a difference until they stop as their bodies are no longer storing the fat for fuel. You never know, it might start to fall off you now that your DC is weaned 🤞 let us know how you get on on the scales tomorrow.

It doesn't matter how long it takes @Quitelikeit as long as you get there (which you will). At the risk of sounding cringey, weight loss is a journey, not a race. I understand how motivating it is to see consistent losses on the scales, but realistically, we can't expect it every week. As long as we're not gaining, we're succeeding 💪

@HawdMeBack Thanks, I am hoping so. Yesterday I was 13s 13.2 but official weigh in is today and I really am 13st 13lb even

So that's 5lbs down since I started watching what I am eating. I have read that I could have been storing extra fat/ weight for feeding the baby so hopefully that helps. Weaning is going ok, I was so engorged last night I had to pump but hopefully that'll only be for a few days.

Do you weigh daily? The app from my weighing scales says I should so I have been but it seems a bit excessive and unhealthy. So I might switch back to once a week.

I am doing MFP for now to be totally accountable but when I was maintaining I mostly just stuck the the SW principal. I hate cc counting and weighing etc but I think I need to for a while.

I weigh twice a week, Thu/Fri & Monday, but I only record my weight from the Monday weigh in. The midweek one is just to gauge how I'm doing. I don't think weighing daily is worth it as you can differ by up to 5lbs from one day to the next due to eater retention, depending g on what you've eaten the day before. It can make you feel unnecessarily disheartened which ultimately leads to a 'fuck it' attitude. I've been there!

Best to weigh on the dame day, at the same time, on the same scales, wearing the same clothes/naked to get a true indication of weight fluctuation.

MFP is great for holding you accountable and keeping you in the zone. I always use it for a month or so and then, when I get into the way of things, I don't bother so much.

I weigh daily then take an average of the last week on a Monday as my weekly weight. It sometimes feels a bit like overkill and can be demoralising when it's sticking or going up (you know you're not losing, whereas if you were weighing weekly you wouldn't know) but mine can fluctuate quite a lot up and down a couple of pounds during the week and I never knew whether my weigh in day was a 'high' or 'low' day so was sometimes seeing a good loss then a gain the week after or vice versa. This way you see (hopefully) a steady loss in the average and no pressure on the weekly weigh in for me.

Doesn't really matter though and depends on personal preference I think. If you think you might become a bit obsessive I wouldn't bother.

Yes I think i'm the same with the wobbling at the moment. I have been struggling with evening snacks. Before I was being very restrained and not finding it that difficult to have some berries for dessert and a couple of squares of dark chocolate but the last couple of weeks i've really struggled with wanting to just keep eating! Not sure why as i've been eating same sort of meals and number of calories throughout the day as before and it's not just been around period time.

I did have one day at the weekend where I allowed myself to fall properly off the wagon and eat some junk i've been missing for first time since i've started but am (hopefully!) back on it now
