2.5lb a week (on average)

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

Hello all - keep up the good work!

I had a small amount (a mug full) of chickpea stew with a handful of kale for lunch.

then dinner was a slice of homemade crust less quiche, and a broad bean and herb salad, with one slice of sourdough.

today I’ve had one slice of Schneider Brot Rye bread (can recommend but only double toasted, not as it is), with a scrap of peanut butter. Then 3 spoons of Greek yoghurt and a banana.

I’ve taken another portion of curry with green beans and kale to work. Not sure what’s for dinner - I’ll be home late so I’ll aim for something small and veg bases and then an early night!

Those all sound like very healthy meals! I've never heard of that rye bread. An early night is definitely the way to go 👍

I jumped on the wagon today. Well, I logged everything I've eaten on my fitness pal so it's a start.

That is me cutting back 🫣 I'd usually have 8 - 10 coffees a day but I'm trying to substitute some with water or peppermint tea. Coffee is my vice and with 2 toddlers and way less sleep then necessary I practically live off the stuff! I appreciate what you're saying though and could quite easily switch to decaff.

You aren't gaining fat on 1200 calories a day so if you need the coffee keep with it.

I will say with that much caffeine your sleep is probably suffering whether you notice it or not.

Todaypicard · 01/06/2023 09:38

ooo it makes me jittery to think of so much caffeine!! Maybe try one decaf a day and then increase by another per week? It will be so much better for you.

I stopped at a friends after work for dinner, so had a slice of veggie lasagne and a small bit of rhubarb crumble. It was a long stretch between lunch and dinner and I did feel hungry - had lunch at 12 and then dinner at 8.30pm

Hubblebubble · 01/06/2023 15:07

I love coffee too, but it literally is a drug and that much caffeine every day will mess with your health in a number of ways.

Hubblebubble · 01/06/2023 15:08

Have you ever tried jumpy monkey tea? Tastes like coffee but less caffeine

Todaypicard · 01/06/2023 19:37

A positive day again today I think!

no breakfast.
lunch was an ital curry - butternut squash, ginger, coconut, lime, allspice etc! With kale and green beans, and a small spoon of rice.

dinner was roasted Mediterranean vegetables with feta, toasted seeds, spring greens and broccoli.

I may have some fruit shortly!

hope you’re all getting on well today? I’m off out for a picnic tomorrow and wondering what to pack that won’t be too carby

Fuckedthen · 01/06/2023 20:09

I think I've did ok today:

No breakfast
Lunch: cheese, ham & red onion toastie, cup of tea
Snack: handful of strawberries, cup of tea
Dinner: slow cooker chicken tikka masala, basmati rice & mini naan
Dessert: mini white magnum

I might have another cup of tea but that's me for the night. All within calories. Hard to count dinner as was pre prepared batch from the freezer but I had roughly 1000 cals left and genuinely don't think it will have exceeded that.

Weighed myself today - 150lbs. If I could get 20lbs off then I'd be ecstatic! I've signed up for a mum and baby exercise class but aware that it's 80% diet for weight loss but hoping this will help with the motivation. I'm still breastfeeding so we'll see how we go.

Todaypicard · 01/06/2023 20:17

Fuckedthen - I’m breastfeeding too - but my daughter is 4 years old, so I’m confident my supply won’t be affected by any changes. You sound like you’ve eaten enough today, a sensible menu. Did you have veg with your curry or was it already in it? I love a slow cooker! I often make dahl.

Fuckedthen · 01/06/2023 23:15

He's almost 8 months so I'm hopeful that my supply has settled and as I'm not making any excessive changes, we should be ok.

No, no extra veg apart from the tomato and onion in the curry so that could definitely be improved!

Bf to 4 - well done you! That's an achievement 🥳

Soonenough · 02/06/2023 01:07

I find that I need breakfast. Used to have cereal and tea and toast . Any suggestions that would keep me satisfied but not too heavy in the mornings ?

Todaypicard · 02/06/2023 07:11

Yogurt and berries? You could add a sprinkle of oats if needed.

or an omelette?

I’ve also started to have just one slice of toast and find that feels lighter but still enough

HawdMeBack · 02/06/2023 08:54

Morning!

Sounds like everyone is doing great!

I almost hit to my steps goal yesterday which I'm happy with - 8,958 steps! I also stayed within my calorie allowance. Looking forward to weighing myself on Monday, hoping to have lost at least 3lbs with it being the first week 🤞

@hubblebubble I've never heard of jumpy monkey tea, I'll look it up!

What's on everyone menu today? Weekends tend to be a bit harder for me than during the week. So far, I've been having the same things on repeat really and don't want to sicken myself.

I sometimes have a protein bar for breakfast. They are quick and easy... and filling! I like the RAW Warrior ones, you can get them from Asda or B&M and they do all different flavours.

Food for me today has been:

i felt hungry at about 10am so had half a cut up apple and a few strawberries with a spoon of Greek yoghurt.

lunch was a cheese, humous, beetroot, carrot and spinach sandwich, with celery sticks, and then an ice cream (we were at a national trust property walking all day).

just got back and planning dinner - thinking left over curry with some extra veg on the side.

running out of food so need to meal plan this next week. Will let you know what I’ve come up with!

Hubblebubble · 02/06/2023 18:22

Mine was croissant and an americano after a swim. A protein flapjack before a strength training class. Then a grilled chicken salad and a starbucks frappe. 30 min walk to pick up DC from childcare and come back home. Dinner was cheese tortellini cooked in a tin of chopped tomatoes with salt, pepper and herbs. Kids size innocent smoothie for dessert. It probably sounds like a lot, but I had a movement heavy day and myfitnesspal has it as being within my calorie deficit.

HawdMeBack · 03/06/2023 06:27

Morning,

How's everyone doing?

I had a successful day yesterday:

Shredded wheat
Protein bar
2 x babybels
Handful of Pop Chips (salt & vinegar)
5 x coffees - bought decaff last night 👍

I know, not enough variety and STILL not enough water. Will do better next week!

Not had more than 6hrs nightly sleep this week so i'm knackered 🥴 should really go to bed earlier but I enjoy my quiet time when the DC down and the long, sunny nights are not to be missed!

I did just under 9,000 steps yesterday, still.not meeting my 10,000 target but my count is increasing daily.

I'm finding that my appetite is decreasing now which is good.

Anyone struggling?

giantwaterbottle · 03/06/2023 08:16

Morning,
@HawdMeBack that's so little food for yesterday. Don't hold yourself back too much especially with breastfeeding, makes me worry for you but I'm sure you have it under control and I suppose it's sort of like a fasting day as probably only around 500 calories ish?

I have been weighing myself daily and have finally started to lose weight! I've been trying to do this since march ish but only got serious with this thread and now finally lost the last 2kg to get me to a stone weight loss. I am really pleased but I also find it hard as you can see it a little but not massively and I still have over a stone left to lose as I am still significantly overweight.

Yesterday I wasn't great but much better than the old me would have been.
Banana for breakfast
Lunch - two thin slices of oven pizza (was at a friends)
Dinner - burger, homemade with cheese and a bun. Then had a custard donut and in the evening had half a bottle of red!

Definitely more than I would have liked but I'm consoling myself by reminding myself that that would have been not even half of what I would have eaten before. Could have had an extra burger or chips/side, at least two donuts and then crisps later watching tv

giantwaterbottle · 03/06/2023 08:17

Also, I think one of the things that's really helped me over the last week is hugely upping my water intake. Defo recommend though I have found it hard.
I do feel the more I drink the more thirsty I get so that's a good thing I think..

HawdMeBack · 03/06/2023 10:35

Hey @giantwaterbottle, 2kg down... that's amazing!!! Well done 👏 def don't beat yourself up about a couple of slices of pizza and a donut, like you say, it's not like you stuffed your face! Hope you enjoyed it!

Totally agree with water being a big help in keeping hunger at bay. I've never been a big water drinker, I really do need to make more of an effort with that.

I'm not breastfeeding chick so no worries there. Yesterday was a very low calorie day but it wasn't intentional, I was just so busy that I didn't think about food (for a change). By the time I sat down I was so tired that I didn't feel hungry.

I did weigh myself this morning, promised myself I wouldn't until Monday but curiosity got the better of me. I've lost 4.6lbs so far 🤩 I'm really happy with that! If I can lose another 0.5lb by Monday that will see me break 14st 🤞

Been up since 5.50am this kirni g and so far, I've had -

Shredded wheat
A handful of pop chips
3 x decaff coffee

Going to grab a big glass of water now!

Giving yourself ridiculous time constraints isn’t helpful. Unnecessary pressure for no reason, and it doesn’t work. Relax, be consistent and don’t overdo it as your body will fight against you…

I kind of agree. I set myself goals eg I’d like half a stone off by my sons sports day, another half stone for a wedding etc. it’s far less overwhelming for me (3 stone to go)

giantwaterbottle · 03/06/2023 10:53

@HawdMeBack so sorry!! I completely confused that re breastfeeding what a wolly 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ sorry!

Wow that is an amazing loss you've done brilliantly! Defo some motivation too!

I find the only way I can drink more water is I bought one of those massive bottles with the amount to drink on and by what times and it is super embarrassing so I only use it at home but it does help

Todaypicard · 03/06/2023 18:08

Well done everyone keep going!

meals today -

no breakfast - I did find that hard today.

lunch at a friends house - cauliflower and butter bean soup with 2 slices of my rye bread (perhaps I should have only had one? Too late now…). Then some mixed chopped fruit.

just sat down to eat dinner now - a lemon lentil and chickpea stew with broccoli and kale.

Todaypicard · 04/06/2023 21:02

How has everyone done today?
weigh in tomorrow !!

we went walking today - covered 3 miles (but have a 4yo so it’s at her pace! Did hit my 10,000 steps though for the first time in ages.

I did have breakfast - strawberries and banana with a spoon of Greek yogurt and a literal sprinkle of muesli.

lunch was a sandwich - whole meal bread, cheese, beetroot, humous, spinach. With some celery and carrot sticks. I had about half an apple as DD demanded the rest!

dinner was the lemon chickpea stew with broccoli and kale.

I really struggled after dinner - I still felt hungry. I had 3 cups of tea and found something to do to take my mind off it, and it passed.

just in bed now with a final herbal tea. I’m pleased I made it without an evening snack.
