Yes please, let's have a meet up this summer. You're welcome to come to mine as we're not away at all. JackieNo, could you get the train?

schneebly · 06/05/2008 19:07

Ooh Kewcumber - I really want a Wii fit too! We have the Wii and the sports which is good fun but I reckon the Wii fit looks fab! Would love the snowboarding etc. Who knows if it would motivate me but DH and I are quite competitive so might work

JackieNo · 07/05/2008 12:29

Packing for fabulous holiday eh, Littlefish . I'm stuck at work reading about 'Livestock husbandry and manure management'. Oh joy. How was the birthday? Hope you have a fab holiday.

Yes - train's possible - are you far from a station? Didcot's very easy to get to for us.

TigerFeet · 07/05/2008 14:15

Your work sounds as exciting as dh's JackieNo although he deals with veg so it's all pesticides and crop rotation for him - makes for fascinating conversations

What do you do exactly?

JackieNo · 07/05/2008 14:20

Editing and proofreading stuff. Usually it's stuff about resource efficiency, ie making more with less. But it can be pretty much anything that we've won a contract to do! Tomorrow I think it's road tyre wear. It's for some emissions inventory guidebook apparently, and I'm just doing it as a favour for someone. Wish I hadn't offered now...

schneebly · 07/05/2008 19:48

lol - my husband is a golf course manager and I have to listen to him talk about grass diseases He is a thrilling conversationalist!

MrsJohnCusack · 07/05/2008 23:07

oooho the holiday has come around LIttelfish, how exciting!

um - I haven't been running for about 6 weeks because I was away, then hd the flu, then have been out every night for about 4 weeks playing the clarinet (is good news though, have got into the pro orchestra, did first concert last Saturday )

so I lost some from running and then more from actually LOSING my appetite whilst ill (which shows I really was properly ill) and then from just being Too Busy To Eat

this has never happened to me before. Seem to have permanently altered my appetite at teh moment. DS has now stopped breastfeeding too which may have made a difference

Am hopefully off to join the gym this week to continue running, as is now too dark and cold to run after the children have gone to bed

TigerFeet · 09/05/2008 11:32

Too Busy To Eat good lord Mrs JC what a novel thing... can you please pop some of your lurgy in a pot and send it over here please?

Has Littlefish gone on her holiday yet#?

JackieNo, is that sort of thing easy to get into? I edit and proof read food labels but not really in the same league! I fancy doing something else, something less... foody. I am surrounded by food and invitations to taste panels and it really doesn't help.

JackieNo · 09/05/2008 12:13

Don't know really, TigerFeet - I only applied to work here because a friend worked here, and it was local . Previously I was commuting in to London, which was no fun at all. I did just start off as an editorial assistant on a magazine for public sector accountants (you can see how I've really gone for the exciting subject areas). Then worked my way up to being production editor. Then moved here as a 'Publications project manager'. Tbh, a lot of it is outsourcing work to other people, or has been in the past, but it seems to be coming round to us doing a bit more of the actual editing, which is quite nice (well, usually).

Littlefish · 10/05/2008 20:28

Still here ladies! Have to go shopping tomorrow for t shirts and sarong! We leave on Thursday

JackieNo · 10/05/2008 20:43

Ooh - I assumed you were already there. Now sarong shopping probably quite fun, I'd hope. Hope it all goes well.

MrsJohnCusack · 12/05/2008 09:26

Thursday! so exciting Littlefish

i have lost a couple more pounds. What IS going on?

JackieNo · 12/05/2008 12:41

Blimey - v impressive. Enjoy it.

JackieNo · 12/05/2008 12:44

Quite.

By the way, DD asked about your DS this morning Kewcumber - how's he doing?

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 12:48

Oh he's so fab Jackie - are you on FB? She can see some recentish photos on there. He's just started putting two word sentences together and is (aside from the temper) very cute.

JackieNo · 12/05/2008 12:52

No - I've managed to steer clear of FB so far, I'm afraid. I can't keep up with MN, so have no hope of anything else, I suspect. Plus I keep reading all these scare stories in the press (so they must be true), and on MN about it. It's fab when they start talking isn't it. Mind you, then you get the whole stream of consciousness thing, where DS (particularly) will say something completely out of the blue, and referring to something that happened weeks, sometimes months ago, and you're expected to understand instantly what he's on about. Which I don't always.

TigerFeet · 12/05/2008 13:33

DD does that random thing too

And yesterday we were talking about the birds flying in the sky (as y'do with 3yo's) and she said "If I was Mr Tall I would have very long legs and I would be able to talk to the birdies in the sky and maybe catch them" - I love it when she comes out with stuff like this

FB is fine IMO as long as you don't give too much of yourself away - a bit like here really. Some people have their home addresses, mobile numbers, birth dates on there etc etc which leaves them open to abuse. I've kept my online info to a minimum and (imvho) shouldn't have any trouble with it. It's great for sharing photos and playing silly games.

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 13:34

I use FB almost entirely for sharing photos with friends and family. Nothing else really.

TigerFeet · 12/05/2008 13:36

Kewc I love that pic of your ds with the upside down sunglasses! awwwwwwwww

schneebly · 14/05/2008 19:03

Ooh I found you! Hi ladies - think I just got a nice incentive to get back on track! Weighed myself Sunday. Was really ill on Monday so didn't eat much then or on Tuesday and weighed today and I have lost 6lbs! Probably mostly water but it took me 'down a stone' and has made me feel like I really want to see it go down again!

I am going to lost weight.

JackieNo · 15/05/2008 13:23

Wow - yes, definitely see it as an incentive Schneebly. I always try to think, if I get a D&V bug, that that's a sort of silver lining . It's a bit quiet on here atm, but the chatting tends to go in flurries.

schneebly · 16/05/2008 10:43

yes jackie! Still eating modestly despite being out for at a function last night! The menu was

bruschetta with cherry tomatoes and basil

pork barised in cider with apple
potato boulangers
sugar snap peas and carrots

selection of cheese

strawberries and cream.

I was very good - had all the starter which wasn't too oily, had lots of veg with the main course and gave DH half my pork, no cheese course and just plain strawberries after. I wasn't drinking alcohol either so definitely saved on some cals I have just had some fruit pastilles but it was because I had to have a fasting blood test this morning so no brekkie!

It is quiet isn't it!?

JackieNo · 16/05/2008 16:11

Yum - sounds delicious. Yes - the thread's dropped off a lot, but it's nice to pop in every so often and people do reply, eventually.

I had to go to the hospital for a scan this morning (suspected polyps in my uterus - though they couldn't see any, thank goodness), and it was the same routine as when you're having a baby scan - full bladder. And they were running almost three-quarters of an hour late. I was pacing up and down in the corridor, thinking 'I'm going to have to go, it's no good'. Luckily they called me in time, but it was a close thing!
