Hi, I have just started taking Orlistat today and I can see lots of old threads about it but none recently posted so just wondering if anyone else on here is on this same journey? I have around 5-6 stone that I could do with losing so my doctor suggested Xenical as a starting point. I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome too and I am sure my weight at 18.5 stone won't be helping those. Any friendly advice or chat would be greatly appreciated Smile

Hi I have ordered these online from a pharmacy website and they have arrived, I'm to scared to take them as read the side effects, and unsure how to measure the fat content of everything I eat, like a bowl of cereal for example? I just don't want no nasty toilet rush being the 6 weeks holidays and taking the kids out. Any help or advice would be appreciated thanks

Hi, I found period pants were a godsend. Not that I had many accidents but made me a bit more confident. I also used my fitness pal to measure fat per meal. Think it's fine up to 15g per meal from what I remember, I moved onto wegovy at Christmas so it was a while ago I used orlistat. I lost a stone on it but then GP wouldn't prescribe as said I had to go through a weight management service (GP was not happy) so I decided to swap meds then and pay privately - just telling you this as wasn't an issue with the orlistat. I found that ok.

So started orlistat on the 16/7/24 have lost a stone in a week is that normal please 😊

I have been given a prescription for Orlistat but, like many others, I am scared of the side effects! I work in an office, and often go to work events, and am terrified of having an accident in public. I also travel a bit for work and, as a result, often don't have control over what I eat - e.g. I have a trip coming up to China for a full week, so will be eating out all the time with others in the group. Also we will be on field trips and may not always have ready access to a toilet.

I am fed up of being fat. I put on 20kg during covid and have not been able to lose it no matter what I try. I feel like if I can lose that 20kg and get back to my former self then I will be able to keep it off. I am 50 next summer and would love to be back to feeling normal and confident.

Can anyone share any advice? How do you take Orlistat and navigate things like work trips? Do you get sudden urges for the toilet and what do you do if you are in the middle of a meeting or something that you can't leave? thank you.

Hi - I’m starting today. Do you take one with just toast in the morning? Is suggests not taking one if you skip brekkie for example.

Hello. I have started taking orlistat 120g for 5 days now. I weighed my self this morning and I lost 8Ib. I was 14st 13Ib. Is this normal? To loose 8lb in a week?.

Yes you loose weight very fastcat the start I found. Don't be alarmed, some is water as you can't hang onto your bowel contents to remove the water I guess. Your carefully avoiding fat too so its to be expected

DreamyDuck · 25/03/2025 21:34

I don't know why that sent twice lol 😂 oh okay so it's completely normal? I was really shocked!!

DreamyDuck · 25/03/2025 21:43

@DyslexicPosterhow long have you been on it?

DreamyDuck · 26/03/2025 06:33

@asmeahamgi take one before I have my porridge then at lunch I have an orange as porridge tends to fill me up until dinner then I take a tablet before dinner.

McHot · 27/03/2025 15:09

Hello! I started two days ago and have lost 3lb so far, have about 5 stone realistically to lose. I'm hitting menopause with too high blood pressure so it's about getting to a healthy weight as soon as possible. I've also just signed up with a Transform Hub (have buyers remorse a little as it's so expensive but I'm trying to girl math it out that's its an investment for my health) so yeh, I'm looking forward to this journey and fully believe it will work. So far so good, no oily surprises etc

McHot · 27/03/2025 15:10

Also, have hols in July - first time in two years going with my husband as I've had other commitments so looking to look nicer on the beach for him as well 😊

DreamyDuck · 27/03/2025 21:11

@McHot I lost 8Ib in 5 days. I'm going to weigh my self next Tuesday. Well done for loosing 3Ib!. x

McHot · 28/03/2025 14:28

Day 3 and I'm 5 lbs down, no side effects (so far!) A bit in shock as I never lose as quickly as other people when we do say SW etc but this seems to be working for me. Going into the weekend with optimism

DreamyDuck · 10/04/2025 00:43

I have lost 10Ib in 3 weeks!. That nearly a stone gone 😁

JunoDove · 10/04/2025 05:09

Would love to hear from
someone who has tried both Orlisat & a weight loss injection pen. What did you find more effective? The daily side effects mentioned by my doctor kept me away from Orlisat, however it’s great to see success stories on here.

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 04/10/2025 13:08

Can I ask a question?

If you don't take them for a day or so, will any possible side effects disappear? I have a prescription but am wary of starting it as, in a couple of weeks, I have to travel by train to a funeral a couple of hundred miles away and couldn't bear the humiliation. I get anxious when I travel anyway, so I don't need to add anything to that! I was wondering if I could leave them off for a day or two, if that would be okay?

Thanks!

DyslexicPoster · 04/10/2025 13:14

Yes if you stop taking them the side effects stop within 24 hours ( but I'd avoid fatty foods for 48 hours.

I'm on WLI and the injections are so much effective than the tablets. You don't feel hungry on the WLI. So even though you should be effort into changing your diet because one day you'll need to maintain. But the reality is you just eat so much less as there's close to zero hunger.

I have been on WLI injections since April so 5 months and only fancied a takeaway once. And only in the last month had a urge for chocolate

Thank you @DyslexicPoster Makes me feel a bit more reassured.

Do any of you have an occasional biscuit, or snack that is not low fat? Is that when your stomach plays up and causes diarrhoea?

It bothers me that my diet will become bland with no real treats to look forward to, unless I want to have stomach cramps and diarrhoea going forward.
