Orlistat

Hi, I have just started taking Orlistat today and I can see lots of old threads about it but none recently posted so just wondering if anyone else on here is on this same journey? I have around 5-6 stone that I could do with losing so my doctor suggested Xenical as a starting point. I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome too and I am sure my weight at 18.5 stone won't be helping those. Any friendly advice or chat would be greatly appreciated Smile

The problem I’m having is the same problem I’ve always had when trying to diet. I just don’t know what to eat.
Orlistat kind of tricks you into dieting properly because you are too scared to eat what you would normally eat.
I’m a fussy eater and I feel like I just need someone to make me a healthy meal plan of foods I will eat and then I just need to use my willpower to stick to it

ZanteDreamer · 16/10/2023 22:14

@mamapearce420 - I'm also 5' 8 and like you think the recommended weight is too low - I'm aiming for 12ish stone I think.

TheShellBeach · 09/12/2023 13:29

I haven't posted on here for ages, but I'm now 16st 5lb.

So I've lost 3st 9lb since I started dieting back in June

I'm still taking Orlistat.

TheShellBeach · 09/12/2023 13:35

I last posted my weight on here on 6th September, when I was 17st 3lb.

I went on holiday in October.

I feel off the wagon at that point, but started dieting again in the middle of October.

So I'm now 16st 5lb. In three months I've lost 12 lb - which is an average of 1lb a week.

Slow and steady.

How is everyone else doing?

1Ib a week is about right for me too. I fell off the diet wagon for a while but I’m back on it now & taking Orlistat again.

I like that I don’t get any bad side effects with it and can choose when to take it or not take it. It’s not an easy time of year to start dieting again but I didn’t want to give myself yet another excuse not to.

I'm starting today, having been prescribed early December, having read so many reviews of 'accidents' - any advice would be greatly appreciated especially food ideas, I'm pre-diabetic with high BMI. I generally eat two meals a day (missing breakfast) Is it advisable to have breakfast so 3 tablets are taken a day or will 2 tablets a day suffice, I'd like to get it right from the beginning.

2 tablets a day will suffice I generally only take 2 when on Orlistat as my breakfast doesn’t generally contain much fat.

@ZanteDreamer I'm in a similar situation 55 with 2½ (maybe 3) stone to lose & menopausal lump - starting today - do you have any advice?

Nessie32 · 04/01/2024 09:54

Thank you - how have you been finding the journey? I started reading this thread this morning

Period pants!! Just in case of those oily accidents, not foolproof but quite good. I've been on it since Oct and lost 6kg so far. I've had 2 accidents but otherwise it's just a bit oily on going to the toilet. You get used to the bright orange!! This week I've swapped to wegovy as feel I'm a bit stuck and kept forgetting to take tablet, so if that can give me a bit of a kick again I'll go back on the orlistat in a couple of months!! Good luck. It's definitely worth it.

Hey everyone!
I’d love to join you all on this journey. I just got my first prescription from my gp for Orlistat and am excited to lose some weight. Over the last 5 years my weight has steadily increased, especially after covid and although for the last two I have had a PT, I haven’t been able to make huge changes to the scales, in fact, I lose weight and gain more after a weekend away or holiday. I know I am probably a bit too relaxed with my decisions or just think f it, I’ll be “good” tomorrow.
Today my weight is 110kg (17.3 st) and at 5ft 4, I look as wide as I do length! I have so many gorgeous 10-14 clothes that I want to actually fit into again rather than feeling down and end up just wearing gym leggings and oversized jumpers.
Going to start the tablets from Sunday and then weigh myself every Sunday morning. Hope I can do as well as all of you <3

Cici1988 · 16/01/2024 08:33

So far all good- I decided to start earlier after posting last week and I am glad I did as I’ve now weighed in at 107kg this morning. I did go out on Saturday night for Mexican but kept it sensible, though Sunday morning was a bit fun haha. Definitely glad it hit me then rather than that evening, at least I was at home.
im going away this weekend for a city break with my partner so I may just leave taking them this weekend or is it best to continue with them/will it make much difference?

curious541 · 16/01/2024 17:05

Hey,
I would say carry on taking them and try to discourage yourself from skipping - it'll help you get in mindset of eating better (at least it did for me!)
I've been sticking with 14-16g fat per meal and found it to be working
Good luck x

Cici1988 · 17/01/2024 19:14

Great, thanks. I’ll do that then as def don’t want to get out of sync x

Mamapearce420 · 18/01/2024 01:17

Sorry all for no updates.
I started them in September and lost over a stone in a month and a bit. I took a break mid November to 1st of January because I had so much going on and I knew there would be alot of fatty foods on holidays and Christmas so i wanted to be accident free. I ate in moderation though didn't take the mick. New year weigh in was 27 stone 4 which was the heaviest I've ever been (I blame those biscuits!) I did lose more than 5 % originally within the 3 months. I saw a gp last week for a in person review who isn't happy about my break as I gained back every pound plus more ,he called me fat and said I won't live until I'm 40 which is really rude so I put in a complaint with pals because no doctor should call someone outright fat. They need to word things better. In my teens and pre teens I had a eating disorder,it was 90% emotional eating and 10% boredom eating so being called fat by a Dr is really triggering for me. I've been on diets since i was 11 and none have worked. Now as a adult I am disabled (not because of weight but it's not helped by the weight) orislat is the only thing that's wver helped. The Dr wants me to lose about a stone in 4-6 weeks to see that I am trying . If not they won't prescribe them to me anymore and I'll have to pay (which I will because they are working when I take them in good routine). So far since new year I have lost 9ibs so I have 5ibs to go if I want to stay on them. I going to be practicing a liquid diet twice a week so shake for lunch, soup for dinner, its a nhs scheme which has been recommend briefly to me but I can use any soups and protein shakes as I'll be buying it all myself.
Here's to 2024 and hoping for 5 stone before next new year! 🥰 Good luck ladies

AkAv84 · 18/01/2024 11:30

For those of you getting stomach cramps how are you coping when you are on your period whilst taking orsitlat?

TodayForTomorrow · 19/01/2024 17:13

I just got this today and about to take my first tablet.

I'm probably going to take it once per day in the evening during the week because I don't eat breakfast and I can't easily get to the toilet at work.

If i was to have something high fat earlier in the day, e.g a bit of birthday cake for someone, would it be safe to take a pill with my next normal meal after a few hours or should I write the day off and start again the following day?

Cici1988 · 19/01/2024 20:54

I’d say continue to take it with your normal meals and give the cake a miss. The way I’m seeing it is I’ve had enough cake and dessert to know how it tastes…

Jodylou222 · 24/03/2024 21:55

Hi, I've been taking orlistat for about 2 weeks and I'm not pooping, the only way I can have a poop is by eating things from the "naughty" list such as chocolate and ice cream which obviously won't help with my weight loss.
If I stick to the "good" list - the list of things I can and should eat I just don't poop.
I'm going to call my GP tomorrow but does anyone know if orlistat still works even if you don't poop please?

NoEffingWay · 30/04/2024 19:55

Just hopping on this thread, it's a bit of a zombie but the most active Orlistat one! How's everyone getting on? I'm due to habe surgery and have been asked to lose a stone to reduce my BMI.

Started orlistat on Sunday and had a bit of stomach discomfort and some small droplets of orange oil today. I had lost 2.5 stone dieting last year but have put 10lbs on over the last 10 months. So far this week I have lost 3 of them. It takes so long to lose weight due to PCOS, am I'm hoping Orlistat gives me a kick up the arse to stop sneaking in biscuits and chocolate whilst denying to myself that I have put weight on!

mummy2019 · 16/06/2024 20:05

Hi there. I’ve just started my Orlistat journey today. I had to go down the route of Boots Online Doctor as my GP sent me packing for three months to try some “dietary changes”! I’ve tried myself for around 1.5 years and just can’t seem to get the pounds off so took the matter into my own hands. I feel ok so far today, slightly cramping stomach but that’s about it. I’ve got around 3.5 stone to lose. If anyone wishes to chat about their journeys I would be happy to take any advice, stories, support etc 😊

Becks2710 · 18/06/2024 09:19

Hey, I started taking orlistat yesterday. It would be nice to share the journey with someone.

mummy2019 · 18/06/2024 12:56

@Becks2710 hey. I’m on day three of orlistat! Feeling fine, no side effects as of yet! How r u feeling?

Becks2710 · 18/06/2024 16:23

@mummy2019 i have only managed to take one with my dinner last night, I had to go to an emergency dentist to have a tooth pulled this morning so haven’t eaten since dinner yesterday 😩 I had some loud gurgling noises after the tablet last night but nothing else 🤞🏻

LinaR · 18/06/2024 23:26

Hey! I am thinking of asking my GP for the orlistat. I have endo and PCOS and where NHS dietitian said I just need to continue what I am doing and move more it’s hard when everything Hurts! I am 164cm and 75 kilos. I was not that heavy 9 months pregnant. Did anyone had any pushbacks from their GP for getting these?
