Orlistat

Hi, I have just started taking Orlistat today and I can see lots of old threads about it but none recently posted so just wondering if anyone else on here is on this same journey? I have around 5-6 stone that I could do with losing so my doctor suggested Xenical as a starting point. I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome too and I am sure my weight at 18.5 stone won't be helping those. Any friendly advice or chat would be greatly appreciated Smile

I'm back from my first lunch out with them. Thought we were staying at home now, but no, walking then going for drinks.

I had felafel on flat bread with humous which I thought might be quite high fat, but nothing awful has happened.... So far 😁

AcerPacer79 · 07/04/2023 20:01

@BettySweaty you are doing better than me today ! I ate a pasty earlier, I reckon I'm gonna regret it tomorrow 🤣 x on a plus, I've also discovered chicken salt and pepper sausages from Lidl this weekend, they are only 1.6gms of fat per sausage. They taste lovely too.
I think hummus should be fine, they do a low fat version too just to be sure. Aim for Around 14-16gms of fat per meal and you should absolutely fine x

@AcerPacer79 those sausage sound delicious, Definatley have to try those.

How did you go on after the pasty?😬

Not had anything in terms of side effects so far, but as you say, keeping the fat count down is the way forward. Probably making a chicken and spinach curry and rice for tea, so that's easy to keep the fat low. Couple of popadom with it. Think that should be ok.

AcerPacer79 · 08/04/2023 13:25

@BettySweaty that curry sounds amazing! X and no issues with the pasty ! I can't believe it must have been my lucky day 🤣

Hi all. I picked the tablets up today. Toying with starting tomorrow which is typical me but tbh I've been eating chocolate like it's going out of fashion so going without tomorrow is no biggy x

BettySweaty · 08/04/2023 21:41

I've not found any real bother with it, just don't eat a load of fatty crap on it. Give it a go! X

AcerPacer79 · 15/04/2023 05:45

Hey ! How is everyone getting on? I'm 11lbs down now and managing to mostly stay on track with my food, Easter has been difficult with all the chocolate in the house and my mental health has not been great this week either so being an emotional eater, that's been hard. But I'm sleeping better and I'm in less pain in my feet and legs so thats cool. I just keep visualising myself holding 5 bags of sugar at once, and thinking "this is what you've lost so far " keep going ! X

11lbs is great. Well done!!

I'm not weighing myself but my belly has definitely gone down and my face looks less puffy. I think the 16:8 fasting as well is making me feel loads better as well.

No issues with the side effects from the olistat either.

waffleyversatile1 · 15/04/2023 15:17

Hi all. massive well done on the 11lbs that's also 22 packets of lard! I'm weighing myself on Monday. Think I'm doing ok. Had a bit of a slip up last night which involved a huge bag of baked crisps which compared to daily chocolate binges is not the end of the world. I'm feeling less bloated. Had a week off work and got out walking which felt good.

AcerPacer79 · 15/04/2023 19:16

Sounds like we are all doing well ! That's great ! I think the occasional slip up is fine. If it feels like you are depriving yourself too much, I think it may put extra pressure on x x
Great that you are feeling less bloated x x I've noticed my trousers being looser x

I just started three days ago, so far no bad side affects, does it only work if you poop a lot? nothing much is happening.

AcerPacer79 · 16/04/2023 06:24

@samestyle hi, it took about 3-5 days for me to notice anything happening but I've found it makes me go to loo more often (both kinds) I had lost a pound or 2 within the first 7-8 days of taking them, so bear with it x

Thank you, I will keep going and time will tell on the scales.

waffleyversatile1 · 17/04/2023 07:58

I lost 3.5lbs which is t great for me on a first week however this is totally my fault and can't put this on the meds. I over ate plain and simple. I do feel better in myself though as crap food makes me feel terrible. Feeling positive and more determined for the coming week. Hope your all doing well.

Sorry just to add I overate low fat foods lol Blush

AcerPacer79 · 17/04/2023 11:37

@waffleyversatile1 that's amazing! Well done :-) I'm 12.5lbs down now, it's coming off slowly but sustainably hopefully 🤞I'm going on holiday in 5 weeks so hoping I can lose a bit more before that x
Then I will have the dilemma about whether to take the pills with me or have a break for a week ?

OP posts:
BettySweaty · 17/04/2023 11:47

@AcerPacer79 you could take them and decide how you feel when you get there???

Personally if going for higher fat options or having limited choice things might prove a bit difficult if you are out and about all day and not near any facilities 😬

Great loss before you go away though. Have a wonderful time xx

AcerPacer79 · 17/04/2023 11:54

@BettySweaty that's what I was thinking, take them and then decide. We have gone self catering so I can control what choices I have to eat. So I think I will try to continue. X

OP posts:
waffleyversatile1 · 17/04/2023 12:36

I would take them with you. I think the issue would be if you ate fatty foods. I haven't had the problems I was expecting lol but if I was on holiday I would be cautious 12.5 lbs is brilliant we'll done

hairypaws · 19/04/2023 23:05

Can I join in too please? I've just been prescribed them today so will get them in a day or two. I'm usually constipated so hoping it makes me more regular but without crapping my pants Blush. I'm hoping to lose around 3 stones and needing the help to totally change my eating habits.

Not going to lie though, I'm pretty scared about starting them. I'm out for dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday so might wait until Sunday to start as I'll be at home.

AcerPacer79 · 20/04/2023 05:42

@hairypaws of course, welcome Smile I would say if you feel more confident waiting until after your meals out, then do, but I have eaten out a couple of times since taking them and I'm just paying attention to the calories and thinking about things may have been cooked. It doesn't mean you have to only eat salads and stuff like that but high fatty foods like burgers or takeaway pizza would be a risk. If you've ever followed slimming world, I find the way of eating on that is perfect for these pills. Good luck and let us know how you get on. X

I'm now 1 stone down 🎉 I think it's been around 6 weeks so I'm really chuffed with that. 3-4 more stone to go but this is the first time in years I've seen it going down rather than up.

OP posts:
samestyle · 20/04/2023 07:36

Well done @AcerPacer79 that first stone gone, that's very encouraging to hear. I've not weighed myself yet, only been on them a week now, don't feel any different but travelling with work, I had a day off taking them. I'll check my weight next week.

hairypaws · 20/04/2023 13:44

@AcerPacer79 thanks. I'm probably eating king prawns and pasta. Will have oil in it which I'm worried about. May take orlistat anyway as I need to start somewhere I guess.

I have followed slimming World loads of times so know the basics very well. Will work with that in mind Smile

DyslexicPoster · 20/04/2023 13:49

Can I join you? Just started again this week. I'm monitoring my calories and exercising too.
