Day 1 on saxenda

I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

I'm glad there's a new thread thank you.

I'm on day 15 and at 1.2mg, not enjoying the fatigue and nausea which seems to have appeared when I upped from 0.6, wondering how long until they disappear or am I stuck with them?!

On a plus note I am 7.2lb down Star

PennyFarthings · 15/02/2023 12:34

Thanks for starting a thread on this. I'm on day 2. Feeling quite sick but drinking lots of water and was pleasantly surprised at how satisfied I was after eating half my dinner last night. I'd usually clear my plate no matter how full I am.
Hopefully the nausea will wear off but I'm determined.
Good luck to you guys to x

I’ve had two courses of Saxenda – currently on the second one and have been for about 6 months. The first one was about the same length of time and then I had a 6 month break. In total, I’ve lost just over 6 stone and it has been transformative.

My top tip would be to combine it with a method of calorie restriction that works for you. Experiment to find out what does. For me, it’s intermittent fasting combined with a high protein, high fat, low carb diet. So I fast between 8pm-1pm the next day, and then I have a milky coffee with some protein powder, then a protein yoghurt with some fruit or crudités with ham/chicken and hummus, and then I cook from scratch every night from the Fast 800 book (usually I increase the portion size as it’s my only meal of the day). This keeps me to around 1200 calories a day and I’m still satisfied. At the weekends I relax and have a glass of wine, takeaway, toast etc if I fancy it but I try to still do the intermittent fasting. Oh and I drink a ton of water and make sure to get enough sleep after learning that the quickest ways to get rid of excess fat from your body is either during sleep or by peeing it out!

It has totally changed my life. I’ve gone from a size 26 to a 16, I have more energy, I’m ill less, my confidence has soared, I have a lovely (very handsome) partner and feel really good inside and out. For me it’s been a wonder drug, and the best part was that even in the 6 months I was off it I kept losing at first and then maintained (hence why I went back on it). It’s changed my life forever.

Best of luck!

peachgreen · 15/02/2023 12:37

Oh and as for side effects – mine disappeared very quickly. Although one day I did take a double dose by accident and it was HORRENDOUS, haha.

Soloparenthelp · 15/02/2023 13:47

I read injecting into the thigh seems to give less symptoms than your tummy. So far so good.

Amazing losses !

@peachgreen wow ! That’s just the story we need to hear. Thanks for the tips. What happens when you come off ? The only thing I’m a bit worried about is becoming dependant on it

OP posts:
peachgreen · 15/02/2023 14:42

It definitely got a bit harder to stick to my healthy eating when I came off it but it wasn’t impossible, just required slightly more willpower! And the time on it had retrained my brain to see food as what it should be rather than a reward or a punishment. It also got me used to functioning on a lot less calories. I haven’t eaten today and I won’t eat until dinner time and I’m absolutely fine. Before Saxenda I would have felt faint or sick. Now I’m just used to it.

grayhairdontcare · 15/02/2023 16:35

Can I ask how you got saxenda?
Is it prescribed?

Soloparenthelp · 15/02/2023 17:13

@peachgreen sounds so positive thank you !! I hope I have similar results

@grayhairdontcare i paid following a consultation with boots online doctor but I believe if your bmi is over 35 you can get it on nhs

grayhairdontcare · 15/02/2023 17:28

@Soloparenthelp do you mind me asking how much?
Literally no chance of a gp appointment.

Soloparenthelp · 15/02/2023 17:34

@grayhairdontcare it was £150 for a months treatment. I think it goes up to around £250 the longer you are on it

Thank you @Soloparenthelp

Soloparenthelp · 15/02/2023 22:55

So day 1 complete. Ive not felt any different today but tried a conscious effort not to stuff my face, which is a result in itself. Let’s see what day 2 brings.

I'll join. I'm on week 2 and am very hopeful! I've totally lost interest in food, its really weird! I'm counting calories and stretching out my fasting period, and so far it has been an absolute doddle! I'm 2 kilos down already and very happy with that! Long way to go though...

Soloparenthelp · 16/02/2023 12:16

Day 2 here. Definitely noticing a difference to my appetite already. Didn’t think about having food until about 12ish ! If this pattern continues I wonder whether to give 5:2 a crack again. It’s been a long time since I’ve not been thinking about what to eat.

no side effects so far but I do feel a bit anxious ?

OP posts:
Soloparenthelp · 16/02/2023 19:33

Something is happening…I probably ate half of my dinner !

MummyJ12 · 16/02/2023 19:53

I’m on day 3. Oh my goodness, I have no appetite whatsoever and only on the 0.6 dose!
I haven’t weighed myself yet since starting but I’m eating very little so far as I’m just not wanting to do it must be making a difference. I’ve felt a little dizzy and tired but other than that I’m ok.
I’m a constant grazer so this is a game changer. It feels no effort making healthy choices.
I was prescribed through Medical Express.
Good luck everyone x

MummyJ12 · 16/02/2023 19:57

That do 👆🏼should’ve been a so!! Sorry about the typo.

Soloparenthelp · 17/02/2023 09:05

Day 3. Getting side effects now. I have a bit of reflux and nausea. Food consumption is definitely slowing down. I had a hot cross bun for breakfast and could only manage half. I feel a bit put off by food. How do you cope with that ? Just force something down ? Or not bother ?

OP posts:
gobbleguts · 17/02/2023 10:31

@Soloparenthelp I am on day 18 and 1.2mg dose. I find if I don't eat regularly I get nauseous. So I am trying to eat low calories nutritious food on a regular basis and that seems to keep the nausea away.

peachgreen · 17/02/2023 11:11

Don't force anything down. The side effects will wear off, you'll get hungry again and you'll wish you hadn't artificially inflated your calories by forcing yourself to eat when you weren't! Obviously if you find you're really struggling for energy or feeling faint, then eat something. But what I would say is really really really prioritise protein. Make that the major component of every single meal. If I'm really hungry I would eat nuts, a slice of ham, a protein yoghurt, greek yoghurt etc. Carbs won't satiate you or give you what your body needs and when you're eating low calorie, you have to make sure you're making every single calorie count. On Saxenda, there are calories and calories – they're not all made equal!

Soloparenthelp · 17/02/2023 16:13

Thanks that’s really helpful

Just done a week back on Saxenda at 0.6 and lost 5.5lb on weigh in today. 2 stone 10lbs of since I started in November 22 (had a break in January hence going back to starting dose)

But I am now being changed over to Victoza on nhs on a capped dose.

RaisingH · 18/02/2023 20:47

I 52 yrs old and have been overweight most of my adult life. I was so unhealthy and was considering gastric surgery when I decided to give Saxenda a go. I started Saxenda in Jan 22 and finished taking it Sept/Oct 22 as I decided it was time to try and do this on my own. I calorie counted as well as using Saxenda and lost 6 stone whilst taking it & a further stone after I stopped and have maintained since but am currently trying to lose a further 9lb - well 8lb now as I weighed today and have lost 1lb. I used 24 pens during the time I was using it and I can honestly say it was worth every single penny.
I've gone from a size 22/24 to 12/14.
I am no longer pre diabetic.
I no longer need to take medication for high blood pressure as I don't have high blood pressure anymore!
I have been able to reduce my asthma meds from 4 items to 1.
I strength train 3 times a week and do 10000 steps (very briskly when possible) a day am the healthiest I have ever been as an adult.
Saxenda has completely changed my life and I hope it does the same for you ladies just starting out on it.

Day 1 on saxenda
frostyfeb · 18/02/2023 21:21

Sorry for jumping on to this thread. Really thinking of trying saxenda as struggling so much to lose weight.

I excercise 3 times a week but am constantly eating. I am always hungry

Can I ask everyone that is buying it privately how much is costs, I see it's £50 a pen buy how long does that last for so how much is is a month. £150 is affordable but £250 might be too much ....
