Day 1 on saxenda

I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

Not that I’m bothered by injections, just don’t really want needles around the house and storing them in the fridge etc

The needles are teeny tiny and safely packed. It's just the pens that need to in the fridge. I've taken a few pics to show you.

Also comes with a tiny wee sharps box for the used caps/needles... I really wouldn't even call them needles they are so tiny

i learnt recently that you don’t actually need to keep pen in fridge either once it’s been opened. As long as it’s stored under 30 degrees it’s fine. But unopened ones must be kept in the fridge.

Good luck @walkies123, I absolutely hate needles, get actual physical symptoms when I have to have an injection, but agree the needle is so small I have managed, don't like it but have coped !

Soloparenthelp · 03/03/2023 21:09

Day two. I enjoy the injection part but I'm weird like that.

Feels odd. Oddly full. I miss being hungry? I've had to undo my belt for my gassy tummy so no immediate slenderising here.

I'll stick with it but if it makes me anxious or shaky etc I'll stop. Don't expect losses for at least a full week.

frostyfeb · 03/03/2023 23:14

@Soloparenthelp Amazing - well done!

frostyfeb · 03/03/2023 23:22

I'm on day 11 and it feels really weird. I went out with my DH and we stopped for lunch which was a real test for me. We went somewhere that does the most amazing little rolls filled with all sorts and amazing mixed salads, and OMG the cakes are gorgeous.

So I just ordered a large mixed salad, and 1 roll, 2 slices of cakes for me & DH. I was so proud of myself I had 1/4 of the roll, a bit of each salad, and a small slither of cake and asked for a takeaway box to take home what DH didn't finish. I felt like I had still enjoyed 'lunch' even though it was way less than what I would of eaten in the past. I would of easily eaten the cake, roll and prob all the salad in the past ( that's why I'm 17stone).

I have felt hungrier today so tonight have upped my dose.

frostyfeb · 03/03/2023 23:25

@MorrisZapp i miss eating. I love my food and I actually miss it. Especially in the morning when I wasn't used to sit and have breakfast with a coffee. I'm trying to not eat until at least mid day

Why do you try not to eat until midday?

frostyfeb · 04/03/2023 11:15

I am not actually finding I need to eat, as I'm not hungry, it's just habit. And by reducing a meal I am also reducing calorie intake.

Ashwater · 06/03/2023 17:02

How’s everyone getting on? I had 2 glasses of wine last night and have felt hungover all day. I used to drink the best part of a bottle a few evenings a week.

MummyJ12 · 06/03/2023 19:25

Hi everyone,
Well done on the 5lbs @Soloparenthelp that’s brilliant! I’m definitely following along with your pattern of needing to up my dose every week to the day that I’m supposed to. I’ve felt more inclined to eat this week. The side effects are less but this means that I am eating more than I have done in the first two weeks. I’m going to up my dose tomorrow going into week 4. I’ll weigh myself in the morning but I don’t think I’ll have lost any more than a couple of pounds this week.
Telling myself that it’s a marathon not a sprint! I’m definitely eating healthier and have introduced more fruits and colour to my diet.
Well done @frostyfeb you’re doing great.
Hope everyone else is ok.

Hello everyone.

I've been feeling my mood is very up and down the last few days,

It's really hard to not eat when it's such a social part of life, especially with children.

I can't be bothered to cook, I make an effort for my younger children, but basically tell my DH & oldest to just sort them selves out.

I am glad it's working at the moment, but wonder how it will work when I have to come off the injections, and will I just put all the weight back on.

SunshineGeorgie · 06/03/2023 20:03

I lost 3 stone on saxenda and put a stone back on over 2 months.

Felt the hunger much more when I came off it. But I was mindful it was creeping back on

I'm back on it now to try to shift that stone and more and hope and pray I can learn from it and keep weight down. It will be MUCH easier in spring as I like to be active in the better weather.

Ah you're just having a wee blip! I know what you mean about eating though ... can hardly be bothered myself atm. But I'm still cooking dinner etc for everyone at home and even if I don't fancy it I'll have a few spoonfuls.

We went out for Sunday lunch yesterday... I managed a bread roll and a few spoonfuls of soup! I'm really enjoying feeling as if I'm in control of my eating instead of the other way around. You had sounded so positive in your other posts that I'm sure this low feeling will soon pass.

TurnipSurprise · 06/03/2023 20:22

I tend to go on for a couple of months then concentrate on maintaining for a few months, then go back on and lose some more, maintain for awhile etc.

I can't afford to be on the pen all the time so try to just do it for a couple of months before an occasion.

frostyfeb · 06/03/2023 20:56

@walkies123 thanks. I'm sure it's a blip too, I feel irrationally irritable almost like PMT.

@TurnipSurprise that's a good idea !

walkies123 · 07/03/2023 14:25

How's everyone getting on today?

AntiStuff · 07/03/2023 15:01

Day 2 for me, still feeling hungry, is that normal?

peachgreen · 07/03/2023 15:09

@AntiStuff Yes. Not everyone gets the hunger reduction side effect, but even those who do it will take longer to kick in.

AntiStuff · 07/03/2023 16:09

Thanks @peachgreen. Someone mentioned feeling like they only wanted to eat beige food, bit like early pregnancy, and that's kind of how I'm feeling. Mild nausea, but nothing to write home about.

frostyfeb · 07/03/2023 16:33

Hello everyone, hope everyone is well.

@AntiStuff yes it's weird, I love food and just don't fancy anything and feel very flat about food and end up eating very plain food
Last night was steak and broccoli with a bit of green salad

SunshineGeorgie · 07/03/2023 16:38

When is everyone taking it?

I do morning/mid morning but feel it's really effective late evening

TurnipSurprise · 07/03/2023 16:45

I take it before bed, sleep through the worst of the side effects and I am able to eat a decent dinner without feeling too sick.
