I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

I 52 yrs old and have been overweight most of my adult life. I was so unhealthy and was considering gastric surgery when I decided to give Saxenda a go. I started Saxenda in Jan 22 and finished taking it Sept/Oct 22 as I decided it was time to try and do this on my own. I calorie counted as well as using Saxenda and lost 6 stone whilst taking it & a further stone after I stopped and have maintained since but am currently trying to lose a further 9lb - well 8lb now as I weighed today and have lost 1lb. I used 24 pens during the time I was using it and I can honestly say it was worth every single penny.
I've gone from a size 22/24 to 12/14.
I am no longer pre diabetic.
I no longer need to take medication for high blood pressure as I don't have high blood pressure anymore!
I have been able to reduce my asthma meds from 4 items to 1.
I strength train 3 times a week and do 10000 steps (very briskly when possible) a day am the healthiest I have ever been as an adult.
Saxenda has completely changed my life and I hope it does the same for you ladies just starting out on it.

What a sucres story ! Congratulations to you !

Day 4 and it’s the first time I’ve had hunger pains. I’ve probably ate more than I should have but equally a lot less than what I’ve been stuffing down my face lately…

I'm starting tomorrow. Any advice is appreciated. I have a lot of weight to lose but at this point I'd be happy just to get a couple of stone off. I have an awful bad back and I'm hoping weight loss will help.

Cheeriochoc · 18/02/2023 23:30

Can I ask is there actually an increased cancer risk from taking this? I’m sure I read somewhere there is with certain weight loss drugs. I’m struggling so would be interested in injections but not if it’s going to cause me to get cancer!

Sugarfree23 · 18/02/2023 23:31

@RaisingH Wow!
That has taken decades off you. Possibly the colours and style but chopping your head off you've gone from a 70/80 something to 20/30 something.
Fantastic!

What is your bmi now?
I'm hovering about 31 and just don't seem able to shift it. I loose will power after a couple of weeks.

Soloparenthelp · 19/02/2023 09:02

Day 5. I wouldn’t recommend drinking a lot. I only had a few glasses of wine last night and spent most of the night feeling very unwell. Woke up feeling full this morning still.

I have noticed I’m quite anxious at the moment. I have got impending monthly’s coming which may be a factor but I have noticed my anxiety levels have increased.

Yes I was wondering that about alcohol! Even just by eating less food, alcohol feels stronger. Cheap date?

user1471596955 · 19/02/2023 13:30

On day two here and love hearing everyone's successes as well as knowing others are just starting out too.
No major side effects for me so far apart from having to wee loads! Appetite is definitely reduced but maybe not as much as others have had, I'm not sure. I am calorie counting too and trying to stick to around 1400 or less. I have 4 stone to lose to get back to the weight I was last happiest at, or about 7 to make my BMI in the normal range, I am so short though that would be so light I think it'd look ill.
Good look everyone, let's keep each other updated 🙂

RaisingH · 19/02/2023 14:36

@Sugarfree23 thank you! My BMI is now 26.9 down from about 41.

frostyfeb · 19/02/2023 15:37

Well I've decided to go for it and have just ordered saxenda.

Saw this thread and just wondered how your first few days are going ?

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 19/02/2023 16:04

I'm seriously considering starting this, assuming I can get hold of some. Am I best starting after a holiday I have booked in six weeks time ? I love eating but need to lose at least two stone to become a healthier weight.

MummyJ12 · 19/02/2023 17:37

@RaisingH Wow! I’m so happy for you. You look great. What an inspirational success story.
@Soloparenthelp I totally agree with you about the alcohol. To be honest, I don’t really want it anymore. But I’ve had a couple of drinks this weekend and I could definitely tell that I’d had them!

paulhollywoodshairgel · 19/02/2023 17:40

I've had my 1st dose and haven't felt hunger pangs all day. Is that even possible?

Preparedforjobnottolast · 19/02/2023 17:47

fleurdelee · 18/02/2023 21:24

Can I ask what victoza is please

It is really still Lirglutide (basically what both Saxenda and Victoza are brands of)

On a Saxenda pen you may go up to the highest 3 point dose where as Victoza only allows a highest dose of 1.8 via the actual pen itself.

Saxenda is under the license for weight loss and Victoza is under the diabetic license is my understanding. My GP practise have said my diabetic readings were highest on Saxenda when I thought I was actually doing well in losing substantial weight and managed to dose up to 2.4 so nearly got to the top dose, I have now got at least a 3 month trial of Victoza.

frostyfeb · 18/02/2023 21:21

Sorry for jumping on to this thread. Really thinking of trying saxenda as struggling so much to lose weight.

I excercise 3 times a week but am constantly eating. I am always hungry

Can I ask everyone that is buying it privately how much is costs, I see it's £50 a pen buy how long does that last for so how much is is a month. £150 is affordable but £250 might be too much ....

I don’t think anyone has answered this as yet. Apologies if I’ve missed it and cross posted!
A pen is 6ml so it depends on your dosage. I’m still on 0.6, at the moment I won’t be increasing to 1.2 after a week because I don’t feel like I need to so a pen will last me 10 days. It was £119 for two pens, so it will be around £300 a month at the lowest dose. The higher your dose the more it will cost. I can’t imagine being on the highest dose of 3ml a day and needing so many pens!! That would cost a fortune.
I still have zero appetite and feel really full really quickly when I eat, but I’m not complaining because it feels so easy at the moment. Really really tired though.

Soloparenthelp · 20/02/2023 22:14

Day 6. Two nights of insomnia on the trot. Hoping that passes as I’m tired enough as it is. I’m down 4lbs already though !

Oh no! Hope you sleep tonight! Insomnia sucks 😟

Dallimore · 21/02/2023 09:00

Has anyone struggled with constipation with this? I've read it's a known side effect, but I took it for about 3 weeks on the lowest dose and had to give up as it was so awful and I was so uncomfortable. I was drinking lots of water and eating a lot of fibre but just couldn't get it to ease off. I really want to try again but not if it's going to be the same problem. Has anyone else had it and found it stopped after a while?

MummyJ12 · 21/02/2023 12:12

Yes @Dallimore I seem to be. I’ve been struggling since Friday. I got on the scales this morning. Lost 4lb, pretty sure it’d have been more if I wasn’t so constipated! Still happy with my weight loss though.

Ashwater · 21/02/2023 13:33

Hi everyone
I hope you don’t mind me joining? I’m on day 7 of saxenda, so far so good. No real side effects and I am 4lbs down.

I started dieting in Jan and lost 10lbs on my own sun chuffed I’ve hit the one stone mark. Another 2 to go!

the thought of eating anything with dairy or oil makes me want to vom at the moment so digestive biscuits and ginger tea is my new staple diet!

frostyfeb · 21/02/2023 14:53

I'm picking up my prescription tonight. Very nervous.

Any recommendations about best diet to follow ?

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 21/02/2023 15:21

I'm on day 8. Have been taking 0.6mg dose but starting to feel my hunger coming back so I think I'll up it to 1.2mg tonight. I was really hoping I could be one of these people who manage to stay on the lowest dose for weeks but it doesn't seem realistic for me. Not sure if I will re-purchase after these first 2 pens run out. The only option after the starter pack is 5 pens at £230+ Not sure how I can justify that every month. I suppose I'll decide when I weigh myself and see how successful its been. Maybe Ill give myself a nice head start and can go it alone (famous last words?!l

I'm waiting to weigh myself again, as I can be easily disillusioned and I want to give it a fighting chance at success. I have a lot to lose but my first goal is 2 stone.

I had constipation from the start but took some Senna tablets that I got from Boots and they kicked in after 2 days. Still not regular but I'll see how it goes. That has been my only side effect, so far. We'll see what upping the dose does for me.
