I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

I'm picking up my prescription tonight. Very nervous.

Any recommendations about best diet to follow ?

I am using My Fitness Pal and just tracking as I go. MFP seriously low balls it's recommended calories per day, so if you stick to what they tell tou to have, you should lose weight. For instance, I know my daily calories for weight loss should be about 2200, because of my current weight. MFP has me at 1500, so I'm not going over that and I'm confident I will see results. I'm also getting my 10k steps per day and do weigh training 5 days per week.

frostyfeb · 21/02/2023 15:56

@2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps

The price is so expensive. I had a really open conversation with my husband and we decided I should pay for it. I'm 45 & 17 stone and have a family history of diabetes. I do exercise regularly 2/3 times a week, bur unfortunately I love my food and diet for a week and fall off the wagon. I did manage to get to 11 stone about 6 years ago. I'm actually worried about my health if I carry on like this so I'm really hoping this can help me change my life. Plus hoping by eating less we will save money too especially eating out or treats

MorrisZapp · 21/02/2023 16:12

Is it possible to use saxenda strategically? Like not to inject every day, but just when support is needed?

Bloodylovecrisps · 21/02/2023 18:52

I managed to change my username! Was user5738394949393 or something before.
I'm coming to the end of day 4 now and I am feeling like I have more energy and am more healthy, even though its only been 4 days! I just think my body is grateful for the nutrient rich foods its been getting. I am definitely suffering a bit with constipation now though, not really badly but a bit. I think I'll see how i go (or not! 😉) the rest of the working week then get some senna at the weekend if needed.
@MorrisZapp I have been wondering the same about not using it everyday after a while, purely due to the cost. I naively thought that 1 pen would last a month so was shocked to find out at the highest dose it lasts 6 days! 😯

OrangeCalippo · 21/02/2023 19:22

I'm on Saxenda and moved up to 1.8 last week. Really struggling on it, feel so sick all the time, but the worst symptom is fatigue. I feel like an old woman, no energy, forcing myself to go for a walk but am pulling myself around. Feel like I have no energy or strength in my legs, if I thought it would improve I would stick with it. Not sure if i should make myself walk or listen to my body and rest. Appetite is gone, have lost weight but feel so unwell and unfit. Any advice anyone?? Confused

anxiouslemon · 21/02/2023 20:07

I've had to stop. The anxiety was becoming crippling. I've got quite a lot going on in my personal life at the moment anyway and this was sending me over the edge. I'd wake up with awful anxiety in my stomach and one day I even woke up and the anxious belly feeling was (this is going to sound weird) covering my head like a helmet of anxiety. Awful awful.
Shame because I was hardly eating but my mental health can't hack it at the mo Sad

Joining this thread if that’s ok.
I stumbled across it at lunchtime (how apt!) and have done the online doctor consultation with Boots tonight. No idea if I will be prescribed, does anyone know of the parameters please?
As in BMI etc

Where are you injecting ? I read that injecting in the stomach can make symptoms a lot worse.

I think you have to be over 30. I’m 32 and was accepted by boots online.

Thanks @Soloparenthelp I’m 51

Soloparenthelp · 21/02/2023 22:01

@anxiouslemon I’ve been quite bad the first 5 days. It has settled today though. I’m due to go up to 1.6 tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what happens. I’m sorry you’ve got a lot going on. Hope you are ok.

Hi sorry for the TMI. I am on day 4 and really suffering with diarrhoea. Does this settle does anyone know? I feel rough!

emmama2 · 21/02/2023 23:35

I'm going to start tomorrow after a blood test! Excited to get started and loving reading everyone's experiences with it. I really struggle to lose weight due to medication, stress eating and now menopausal on top- I can be on 800 cal with exercise and I still don't lose so I give up so excited to get started tomorrow!

Soloparenthelp · 22/02/2023 08:30

I’ve not had that side effect - quite the opposite. There’s a fb group saxenda uk users that is really helpful

Soloparenthelp · 22/02/2023 08:30

Day 7 here and I’ve upped to 1.2 as I’m definitely starting to get hungry. Will see how the side effects go today.

Hi @Soloparenthelp , I have been injecting in my stomach. (lots more padding there) but will try my leg and see does the symptoms improve. i am in Ireland and the cost is huge, my last prescription was €280 for 4 pens so I am determined to keep taking it but I just feel so unwell at present, any tips or tricks are appreciated. 🙄

Definitely try in the leg. You are supposed to change injection sites each day anyway.

My starter pens have arrived, I had no idea they had to be kept in the fridge!

I have a rotten cold just now so I'm not going to start until I feel fully fit again. Also going away this weekend and won't be able to refrigerate the pen. I'll start at some point next week.

@MorrisZapp I found out recently that once opened, they just need to be stored under 30 degrees. (I’m going away in a few weeks and wondered the same myself!) but it does sound sensible your approach anyway

So I did my first injection last night.

I'm a really emotional and boredom eater and yesterday I ate so so much.

Today I woke up and my mouth felt dry, and I managed to not eat until 12 when I had a 2 egg & ham omelette, and a banana mid afternoon.

I feel a bit hungry but not starving like normal.

No other symptoms yet. I do feel tired but I slept so badly as I felt so nervous.

Saxendatry · 22/02/2023 17:46

Hi everyone, could I join please? I've also just received my first pen and ready to give this a go along with calorie counting. I am about 4 stone overweight and 5ft 4, also possibly peri-menopausal which is just adding to my desperation. Awful back pain everyday and I really need something to help me kickstart a better way of eating.

I'd just like to ask, do you inject in the morning or evening? I'm unsure. Looking forward to chatting with you all

MummyJ12 · 22/02/2023 19:11

I always inject first thing. Not sure what everyone else does?
I was hungry yesterday so I went up to 1.2 this morning and it seems to have worked again. I have an odd taste in my mouth though?! Still can’t poop! Gonna have to do something about that….maybe up my fibre.
Hope everyone’s feeling ok.

gobbleguts · 22/02/2023 19:22

I was injecting in the morning for the first 10 days but I have switched to evening now as I was finding the fatigue was peaking mid afternoon when I was taking it in the morning, it seems to have helped with that.

I'm 2 weeks in and have lost 8.5lb so I'm pleased with that.

Does anyone know how many 1.2mg doses you would get out of one pen?

gobbleguts · 22/02/2023 19:24

3 weeks not 2 weeks!

10in10 · 22/02/2023 19:27

Can I ask ... what stops your body going into starvation mode and holding onto fat? The losses all sound amazing - well done everyone!!
