Day 1 on saxenda

I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

@10in10 im not sure exactly how it’s works but it certainly does! 5lbs down in week one, so 15lbs since 1 jan in total.

Today is day 8 of injecting for me. Up until now I’ve not had any side effects but today I’ve felt knackered and nauseous. Looking forward to getting into bed with a ginger tea and love island. Hope everyone has had a good day.

MummyJ12 · 22/02/2023 20:18

Just found online that a pen has the equivalent of 18mg. So my initial calculations were completely wrong!
Going up the dosage as recommended will therefore mean that the first pen will last 17 days. A bit of a relief to be honest although it’s still going to be expensive to be on the full 3mg dosage, when a pen will last 6 days.

frostyfeb · 22/02/2023 20:36

@Saxendatry I did my first injection yesterday and did last night, only because people said it helped with some of the symptoms

I was injecting in the morning for the first 10 days but I have switched to evening now as I was finding the fatigue was peaking mid afternoon when I was taking it in the morning, it seems to have helped with that.

I'm 2 weeks in and have lost 8.5lb so I'm pleased with that.

Does anyone know how many 1.2mg doses you would get out of one pen?

See I'm scared about the fatigue too as I'm already so tired anyway! Should I do it now? I'm actually so nervous

@Saxendatry I did my first injection yesterday and did last night, only because people said it helped with some of the symptoms

So should I just do it now then? I'm so scared. I watched a YouTube video on it and it seemed so easy. Not when I'm doing by myself. Even though I'll not feel it with the fat on my stomach

frostyfeb · 22/02/2023 21:13

@Saxendatry I was literally shaking last night. I HATE needles and so the thought of injecting myself was horrible. But it really was ok. I say that and am still nervous about doing it again tonight

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 23/02/2023 01:31

Just do it! Its really easy and the needle is tiny, you won't feel a thing. I'm half way through my third week and 4kg down, wish I had started sooner!

Aw that's not good, what a shame. After I watched the YouTube video I just done it. I felt nothing x

Thanks! I did it. Wow that's an amazing loss. You must be delighted x

How is everyone doing? I'm on day 6 but have been weighing myself despite telling myself I would only weigh every couple of weeks or so because I am weak! Anyway, I am recording my weight on Saturday because that when I started but I have lost around 3lb so far. Would you be disappointed with this as a first week loss? Because I kind of am! I have a lot to lose and have been in a calorie deficit everyday and been using the Saxenda too so I feel a bit deflated. Am I being too harsh or would you expect more for week 1? 😞

I think you're being awfully hard on yourself. It hasn't been a week yet and for women, so many issues come into play for the scales. It could be menstrual etc.

I'm day 8 today (I got my days muddled previously) and have lost 5lbs. I weighed myself this morning (even though I promised myself that I wouldn't). Yesterday was my first day on 1.2mg dose. Im chuffed with the loss but I have been diwting and exerciaing so ita not been qithoir effort. Still no side effects besides chronic constipation, which I'm managing.

To be honest, I'm underwhelmed with Saxenda. I'm still hungry. I'm still having to put alot of willpower in to play, not to eat what I would normally do. I've googled and it seems that's actually pretty normal. Saxenda is a suppressant but it's not going to make my need for food, or my psychological issues around food, go away. Sooo...why amd I paying hundreds of pounds to effectively be still hungry but with constipation too 😂 I'm feeling a little down about it tonight, as you can see. I'll persevere; may aswell use the pens I have but currently not thinking it likely that I'll re-order.

frostyfeb · 23/02/2023 21:25

@2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps sorry to hear how your feeling. I think your right it's not a miracle drug. It's only day 2 for me and also keeping to a calorie deficit and it is hard. But I have been trying to stick to SlimmingWorld and struggling as I am always starving and have a massive appetite and love my food.

I def feel that it's affecting my appetite and it feels less, let's hope it works

frostyfeb · 23/02/2023 21:25

@Saxendatry how did day 1 go?

Soloparenthelp · 23/02/2023 21:30

It’s not intended to be a miracle drug. I’ve had to catch myself a few times and ask myself whether I’m eating because I think I’m hungry or whether I fancy something to eat because I’m bored/habit etc.

I upped to 1.2 yesterday. Ive ate quite a bit today as I’ve been out with work. I feel quite sick tonight and I think it’s because I’ve ate too much. (Still a lot less than ‘usual’ but more than my body has been used to)

I have noticed a pain in my right side under my ribs. I really hope it’s not my gall bladder 😵‍💫

Hope you’re ok and feel better tomorrow @Soloparenthelp x
It’s my birthday this weekend and I’m worried I’ll eat too much/drink too much etc.
Let us know how you feel in the morning.

I think you need to give it a chance to work. Some people don't get the appetite suppressant effect until they are on the full dose. I had a very small loss in the first week, but I'm on day 19 now and I've lost 4.5kg! Hopefully if you keep using your pens it will kick in soon for you. As for the constipation, drink lots and lots of water.

Soloparenthelp · 24/02/2023 08:57

Morning. Feeling a lot better today ! I also had my first weigh in and I’m 5lbs down ! Really happy with that. Happy to keep digging in and see what happens. As long as health remains, I’ll be carrying in for the full 16 weeks and see how I get on.

That’s amazing @Soloparenthelp and I’m so glad you are feeling better today. I’m definitely doing this for at least 16 weeks, even with the tiredness and constipation! It’s great that we’ve got this thread 😊.

And thank you x

Saxendatry · 25/02/2023 08:22

Well done @Soloparenthelp that's amazing. You must be so pleased.
@frostyfeb I'm doing ok thanks. On day 3 and my appetite has definitely reduced although I have a few problems elsewhere in life at the moment so even though I'm not feeling hungry my emotional brain is telling me to binge so I'm finding that more of a struggle. I have been drinking loads of water too. Hope you all have a successful weekend.

Hope you have a lovely birthday weekend! 😊

MummyJ12 · 26/02/2023 13:41

Thanks so much @Saxendatry 😊. I’ve had a great weekend thanks and have managed to negotiate socialising with not eating too much! Last night we went out for a family meal, I was full after the starter….left pretty much all of main. (Shameful but I honestly couldn’t have eaten it because I felt a bit nauseous). My family finished it off for me so nothing went to waste at least.
But I honestly am starting to realise where I’ve been going wrong. How I’ve been brought up is “clear your plate”. Eat when you’re happy eat when you’re sad. I need to change the mindset.
Also finding still that I can’t drink much alcohol, I just don’t want it. I think my liver will thank me for starting on Saxenda too.
Down another 3lbs too!
How’s everyone else doing?
Thanks again for the birthday wishes.

frostyfeb · 26/02/2023 17:02

@MummyJ12 glad you had a good birthday and coped with eating out and had a weight loss, sounded like a good birthday!

frostyfeb · 26/02/2023 17:03

Just being nosey but have you all told other people that too are on Saxenda or hope how do you explain not eating?

Soloparenthelp · 26/02/2023 17:37

@frostyfeb i haven’t told anyone yet as I just want to do it without the pressure. I’ve just told people that I’m trying to lose a bit of weight.

@MummyJ12 glad you had a good weekend !
