1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Well I delayed my start to the 16th last Monday and I'd put on another pound
🙄
So I was 15st 9lbs
And now I'm 15st 6lbs I've lost 3lbs!

I've stuck to eating in my calorie deficit and I brought a kettlebell from Argos 6kg £8 bargain! I found a great YouTube 30 min workout and I'm doing it 3 times a week.
The best thing was I've brought and tried on a size 16 dress for an occasion soon, and it fits perfectly, this is huge because I was a size 20 last year at my biggest weight of 17st 3lbs.
So I'm very happy right now ☺️ and it's giving me motivation to keep at it to reach my first goal weight of 13 stone.

Hope it's going OK for everyone else

Haha @Denise82 i have bought the same kettlebell 😂😂😂. I’m doing the Caroline Girvan workouts on YouTube - which ones are you doing?

JoyPeaceHealthz · 23/01/2023 18:56

Fitting in to something that you feel good in is so motivating @Denise82

I'm feeling a lot more zen about the pace I lose weight now. I can say this now! On a monday, with 6 days til Sunday /

I'm doing the same videos Caroline Girvan, the 30 min full body kettlebell workout. I love it as she doesn't talk 😄 just good music. I'm enjoying doing the workout and that's important for me.

I'd originally picked up the 10kg kettlebell the bright orange one but immediately exchanged it for the 6kg, I was obviously feeling brave when I ordered it 😄

Well done on the loss @Denise82 and on the Kettle Bells - I am thinking of trying some form of weight strengthening thing...I haven't a clue- have walked today and yesterday but I found my legs and knees a bit achey after - aging is a horrible thing - still it is keeping me on track 🙃 feeling ok this week still calorie counting and did well today at 1200 calories - Nutrachek is calculating me at 1400 calories a day and I am just keeping under that, when averaged out over the week.

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 23/01/2023 22:19

OMG! @sylv165 and @JoyPeaceHealth you've lost weight!! I am so pleased for you as you have both been so determined when it is so easy to get dissuaded. Well done!
I had another bad weekend. Massive family celebrations all weekend so to be expected but I didn't need to eat quite so many crisps. Or quite as much cheesecake.
I started at 11st11 on Mon 2nd, got down to 11st7 on Mon 9th, dipped down to 11st4 that week before having a bad weekend and weighing in at 11st8 last Monday, got down to 11st5 last week before being 11st8 this morning.
I would love to be 11st3 for 1st Feb. This might be possible if some of my current weight is bloat.
It's late but, having got stuck at work this evening, I'm about to do an exercise video.

HereComesMaleficent · 23/01/2023 22:23

Hi all do you mind if I join.

I bit the bullet and weighed tonight, I've not weighed myself for about 3years!

But anyhow I stepped on the scale after a hearty Christmas and nearly fell through the floor.

I'm 13stone. I should be about 10 for my height 😭

Now I've not been 10stone since my late teens and pre baby at 24, problem is that baby is now 8 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️.

I've bounced around the 11-12stone mark for years but was shocked to see 13!!

So tomorrow I'm cleaning up my diet massively and would like to be 10stone by August, for the summer holiday.

I need to do this. I'm only in my early 30's. I'm a loan parent with little support so gym sessions and stuff isn't going to happen. But do you think it's realistic to do this on diet and just being healthier in general?

Any tips advice?

scaredysquiggle · 24/01/2023 14:35

Welcome @HereComesMaleficent and yes you can do this!

I weighed in at 12st 13 in March 2021 and decided enough was enough. I focussed on my diet first and lost a lot of weight that way and hammered out the last stone on the treadmill. My children are older then yours so I had that option of spending time on myself. I was done to 9st 10 by September 2021. It might take you longer if you can't do so much exercise but as long as calories out are more then calories in you should lose weight.

I put on a stone and a bit over the last 4 months (no exercise and too much eating out) but I'm going to shift it! My maintenance plan when I get back to my optimal weight is going to need focus and work.

scaredysquiggle · 24/01/2023 14:37

It's going to be a bad week on the scales for me as due to family birthdays I'm eating out 4 times. I will try and make healthy choices were possible and not have dessert or alcohol. But I know the scale will show it on Sunday. Staying focussed in between is going to be very much needed.

Good luck to everyone this week

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 25/01/2023 06:51

Morning all. Forgot to update on Monday with my 4lb loss this week- takes me to 9.5lb for January. Final weigh in of the month next week and will be happy with a 10lb overall loss for January. 🤞🏻

sylv165 · 25/01/2023 07:51

Wow 10lbs in a month is incredible, well done! My scales are showing another 2lbs off this morning - which finally takes me back down below my starting weight. At last!!

JoyPeaceHealthz · 25/01/2023 11:13

i went out with my friend last night, ate, drank had wine........ but back on track today. I think it might be good to have the occasional day off anyway. still not weighed myself. just hoping for the best on sunday.

sylv165 · 25/01/2023 11:36

@JoyPeaceHealth I hope you enjoyed it, I think it is really important to have the odd day off. It might slow things down in the short term, but in the long term (speaking for myself at least!) it makes it much more sustainable and I hope will avoid the cycle I have fallen into before where I lose weight, then find it all too boring and anti-social and totally fall off the wagon. That's also my rationale behind going all out with exercise - I think having more muscle and the ability to burn a lot of calories through running etc will minimise the consequences of weekends away/nights out etc. That's the theory anyway!!

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 25/01/2023 17:50

Oh, wow, @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa, that's amazing.
I'm having a good day today. Been on the cross trainer and for a walk and stuck to my calorie allowance during the day. I really want to go & eat more now but need to wait an hour for dinner.
My inbox is filling up with emails about new season clothes and I am wondering what I will buy when I am thin. I'm also reminding myself that it's not about what I look like but the health benefits. Must remember that!!

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 26/01/2023 22:25

Another good day.
Just within calories, a nice long walk and a quick stint on the cross trainer. Lots of veg this week and little sugar/processed food so I'm feeling less bloated which always help. I did find myself mindlessly eating Milky Way stars earlier which annoyed me as I don't even like them. The packet was open in front of me and so I took a couple and then a few more before I even noticed what I was doing. As I was going back for another handful, I clocked it so limited myself to two more and stopped. It's particularly annoying as we've got some Hotel Chocolat chocolates open and I've managed to stay away from them.

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 27/01/2023 07:19

A quick weigh - I'm 11st5 exactly which is a few ounces less than I was a week ago but a few more than a fortnight ago. When making social plans for this weekend, I've purposefully kept to ones where there will be limited options to eat or drink so I'm optimistic that I might see 11st3 on Tues.

sylv165 · 27/01/2023 09:16

Just as I was starting to get into a good routine with exercise I have come down with a cold. Not feeling too bad, but have absolutely no voice (much to my family's delight) and don't want to push it. Have also been having busy evenings after work going to view high schools for my eldest. Thankfully haven't fallen into the mcdonalds trap which I definitely would have before, have just waited until we're home and made something healthy. I also went to a nutritionist earlier in the week (booked when I wasn't losing any weight and getting annoyed about it!). It was quite interesting, she gave me a few possible answers as to why I might not be losing weight and suggested a few changes so hoping they work to keep the scales going in the right direction. She tried to persuade me not to weigh myself as she said the muscle I'm building through strength training will likely mean I am getting smaller even though weight is staying the same, but I'm not sure I can do that!!

HereComesMaleficent · 27/01/2023 14:07

Afternoon all thanks for the welcome.

Congratulations to those on losses big and small, well done!

So I am going to attend a weight watchers class to help keep me on track and have accountability for my weigh ins. Hoping it we'll help. DS is welcome to attend with me so takes the pressure out of worrying about childcare. Mission is 3stone off in 6 months. So hoping that's steady and achievable.

So Monday will be my official weigh in. I've cleaned up my diet already which is going ok, so maybe Monday at my official weigh in I may have lost something. Who knows 🤣

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 27/01/2023 23:03

Another good day. Food within calories and lots of exercise. I've done lots of cardio this week but need to mix it up with some weights, too, if I want to see a change in my body shape.
Sounds like your nutritionist was helpful, @sylv165

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 28/01/2023 07:34

Back down to 11st4, which is what I was two weeks and one day ago. Determined to have a good weekend so that I can still be this weight on Monday for official weigh in. Hopeful that I'll see 11st3 by 1st Feb.

lorisparkle · 28/01/2023 08:11

I joined right at the beginning but gave started a new job so things got a bit hectic. It was a very slow start but have lost 3lbs which is better than nothing.

Trying to cut back on unhealthy snacking after work but that is a challenge!

JoyPeaceHealthz · 28/01/2023 10:25

I haven't weighed myself all week. Last Sunday, I had put on weight from the sunday before!

So I am trying not to have too high hopes for tomorrow. I have been googling and apparently weight loss plateau (if you're checked in with a doctor for weight loss) is three weeks. They won't advise you to change what you're doing until you've had three weeks of not losing.

I also read about zig zag dieting. It was on an Australian website. It requires a bit of maths! You have a weekly calorie intake based on your daily recommended number to lose weight and the idea is that a couple of days in the week you have more, a few days a week you have less, but (say, in my case) 1266 is still your average daily intake. The idea seems good. And stops your body getting used to 1200 like I think my body did, so quickly. Shock
So keeping on keeping on.

Wow that sounds like an interesting experience!

I'm having to be my own nutritionist. I brought carbs back in to my diet even though I wasn't losing as I thought, I don't want to feel I have nowhere left to go at this early stage!

What did your nutritionist say about the weight loss stalling? I just read this on line but apparently a proper weight loss plateau is three weeks so that has cheered me up a bit. 3 weeks have not passed since 10th Jan so I need to remember not to catastrophise!

Any tips to pass on or is it very personal to you?
