1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Hello, can I join? I started trying to loose weight at the beginning of November so far I've gone from 14st 2 to 13st 8. I'm hoping to loose another 8lbs by Easter. I need something like this so I feel a sense of accountability!

JoyPeaceHealth · 16/01/2023 19:37

Oh yes, I'm trusting in the process at them moment. Not even discouraged. Low carb is so much easier than Keto I'm enjoying the things I can eat. I feel like the big (?) drop is coming. Next Sunday. And I do feel some changes, I actually feel a bit less tubby. Jeans sitting much better. My tum is a bit less of a tank.

I'm also proud of myself for doing pilates nearly every day.

JoyPeaceHealth · 16/01/2023 19:38

@neverendinglauaundry You're in the right place!

Itssuzeimoverhere · 16/01/2023 19:40

This is my very late post for Sunday weigh in, only lost 400g this week but it was a week that included a fair bit of comfort eating due to an annoying work situation, so it could have been worse.
my noom app tells me I’m not eating enough greens so that’s the goal this week.
Well done everyone.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 17/01/2023 06:32

Good Morning All,

I decided not to weigh this week as was due on and despite knowing I always bloat/gain at this time, I wasn't sure if it might railroad me.

I'm back at work now so I'm hoping the extra calories burnt will also help. Nowhere near my usual work average steps (18-20k a day) yet, but it's way more than I had been doing!

I've also meal planned some lovely new things for this week that I'm really excited about.

Have a great day everyone.

Bouledeneige · 17/01/2023 20:35

I think I've lost about 4 pounds since new year. Doing healthy eating, intermittent fasting so eating between 12 noon and 8pm plus no alcohol. Feels okay!

neverendinglauaundry · 17/01/2023 21:09

Hello, struggling to keep to it today.
B. Protein yoghurt
L. Chicken soup & bread
D. Chicken goujions, potato waffles, peas
S. 3 chocolate digestives
1650 calories, 12000 steps
Desire to drink a lot of wine - very high!!

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 17/01/2023 23:32

@neverendinglauaundry I know that feeling! This week it really feels as though real life has kicked in. Everyone is over that back to work feeling and the emails are coming in thick & fast, the DC are up to their ears in home work and need the odd bit of support either in doing it or just getting organised, all of their activities are back ... and I've completely lost my mojo. This evening, I knew I'd feel better if I did some exercise but I just sat staring into space for at least half an hour and have spent another hour not really doing much.
Tomorrow's plans are back to basics

  • drink 2l of water
  • record everything I eat
  • eat a lot of green veg
  • do some exercise
PeppermintChoc · 18/01/2023 06:10

Had two good days. Got a birthday meal tonight which tbh I could do without and it’s a set 3 course menu so difficult to chose something good. Although portions not huge.

Hope everyone else is having a good day.

sylv165 · 18/01/2023 08:43

Scales are still refusing to move here. But I have realised my period is due around tomorrow so hopefully once that happens I will suddenly be 4lbs lighter…I can dream anyway! Heading into the office in the snow and ice this morning, then intending to go for a run and kettlebell workout once the kids are in bed. I invested in a treadmill and some weights at the start of December so now have a reasonable home gym set up, otherwise I just find it too tricky to develop a routine around the kids, work and a husband that works away most of the time.

JoyPeaceHealth · 18/01/2023 09:02

I'm not stepping on the scales this week. I got fed up last week. I was putting in the work but not seeing results.

I'm still putting in the work this work.
If there is no nice surprise when I step on the scales, omg I'm having lippo 😭

sylv165 · 18/01/2023 09:05

I’m with you @JoyPeaceHealth my ability to be zen about things is deteriorating!

JoyPeaceHealth · 18/01/2023 09:27

I want one of those whoosh effect weight losses on Sunday.

I feel a bit thinner though. I think 🤔

neverendinglauaundry · 18/01/2023 17:11

@2023istheyearigetmyacttogether
Yeah, there's a large dose of January reality going on.
Today I did well until about 4pm when I cracked and had a slice of Christmas cake. So far:
B. Half a banana, 2 coffees
L. Cheese & ham toastie orange, ovaltine
S. Slice of Christmas cake

Now I'm at around 900 calories. Plan for tea is Chinese fakeaway which was on offer, I think it's going to be more than 1500 in total, but I'll try to limit myself a bit.

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 18/01/2023 23:25

How can there be such a contrast between the last two weeks and this? How come I've reverted to my natural sloth like state quite so soon. I was loving the "new me" last week.
I did manage to drink the water, eat my greens and record what I ate. I completely failed on the exercise front. Not from lack of time - I read for at least an hour - but just general not feeling like it. I somehow justified it as it was cold. I have both some cardio equipment and weights in the house and clearly get warmer doing exercise than I do reading. I despair of myself but the book was excellent

Sjanish33 · 19/01/2023 07:59

Weigh in day today
SW: 96.5
CW 93.7 Week 2
lost just over 1lb this week bringing total loss
to 6lb - if I can get to the half stone off by end of
Jan I will be more than happy. Calorie counting and still no alcohol this year!

Hope everyone is doing good

sylv165 · 19/01/2023 08:16

Well done @Sjanish33, that’s brilliant! 👏

PeppermintChoc · 19/01/2023 09:36

I’ve not weighed myself as going to try and resist until Sunday.

Went for an Indian meal last night but it was a birthday celebration. It was a set menu so not ideal but portions smaller than a take out or normal menu. Roughly tracked it and was over about 400 cals for the day.

Been keeping on top of my exercise.

Today I’m WFH and fighting the urge to eat the Christmas chocolates! Woke up really hungry and had a big breakfast of toast, smoked salmon and poached eggs. Would usually skip breakfast. Will have a lighter lunch.

sylv165 · 19/01/2023 10:15

I weighed myself again this morning, and the scales are just not budging. After gaining 2lbs in the first week, I have just stayed exactly the same weight, not even fluctuating by a quarter of a lb. So I think I need to change something. I have been exercising almost every day, either a c25k run or strength training. I've also added a 15min kettlebell session after my runs (as realistically I am not doing very much running yet!). I've been doing 16:8, eating between 12pm and 8pm, not particularly watching what I eat but trying to reduce portion size, minimise carbs and only eating brown rice, pasta etc) and upping vegetables. Also not had any alcohol since 1st Jan.

I've had the odd slip up - I've had maybe 3 packets of crisps since I started, and have been allowing myself a dessert on Sunday. Any advice on where I might be going wrong, or anything else I could try? Or is it just a case of giving it a bit more time?

scaredysquiggle · 19/01/2023 12:30

Hi @sylv165,

I have the same issues at times. If I'm exercising a lot I don't see any reduction in the scales and even though I know I'm well under this week calories wise and I'm doing spin, running and Pilates I'm actually gaining weight on a daily basis. I lost 4lbs the week I had Covid and couldn't go to the gym and I know I won't lose any weight now until my stubborn body relents and I just have to hang on in there. At these times I turn to the tape measure and weekly measure a thigh, waist, hips and bust. If those numbers are dropping I take comfort in that. Try that and if you're seeing no reduction anyway you may need to look at your diet. It could be there you're gaining muscle and that weighs more then fat but you would lose cms on your measurements.

The scale isn't the be all and end all. Are your clothes looser?

PeppermintChoc · 19/01/2023 13:10

@sylv165 are you tracking what you eat and weighing/measuring your portions?

sylv165 · 19/01/2023 14:03

@scaredysquiggle good to know this isn’t just a “me” thing 😂. I’m not feeling any thinner, but my period started today so I’m a bit bloated. Will be interesting to see how I feel in a few days. I’m enjoying doing the exercise though, and am starting to feel a bit fitter so there are definitely benefits away from the scales, and that is the main thing.

@PeppermintChoc im not, no. Maybe I should but I went down that road before and found it a bit of a nuisance - trying to prepare my food separately to the rest of the family to make sure I got the right dried weight of pasta onto my plate, etc! I’m basically following the Second Nature principles - no refined carbs or sugar - but can have brown rice/natural sugars like fruit, lots of protein and veg. No cap on portion size as such, just eyeballing it and having less than I would usually! I’ll maybe have to start the whole measuring saga if I don’t see results in another week!

PeppermintChoc · 19/01/2023 14:08

I just prepare everyone’s food together and give myself whatever proportion, I know cooked pasta etc is less accurate but definitely more so than guessing.

JoyPeaceHealth · 20/01/2023 12:32

Friday! Yay
ive been perfect all week 😇 so im having a glass of wine and pizza later.

I haven't weighed myself since Monday so fingers crossed for Sunday.
I'm going to up my carbs. My digestive track needs them. I've eaten about a kilo of brussel sprouts in the last 10 days!!

.

Porridge is a healthy carb isn't it? It is supposed to lower cholesterol too. Weetabix and shredded wheat have no sugar added.

So I will have a few more carbs next week. If my slow weight loss doesn't slow down more as a result, then I'll be proceeding, with caution

sylv165 · 20/01/2023 14:14

Sounds like you have had a great week @JoyPeaceHealth, will keep my fingers crossed that it all pays off on Sunday!

I have just completed week 4 run 1 of c25k, definitely starting to see some improvements in my fitness so will take that as a win even if I don't lose any weight this week.
